Is there anybody else getting a sleeve at the bariatric centre in Mexico on September 1st?
-
Laura , honey, I get to say honey because I guarantee I'm old enough be your grandmother or great grandmother. If you have gained it is almost certain you'll be put on the liquid diet , 1 to shrink your liver and 2 to pare a little weight off, just, pray surgeon doesn't move your surgery date back to give you 2 weeks or more on the regimen. Could Happen! Bariatric Surgeons don't have very good sense of humor when it comes to weight gain , especially this close to his circus party.😧

Good to meet you Laura, will be watching for updates on your story. You know the weight loss and bariatric surgery, may increase your mamahood chances. A lot of ladies say it improved their fertility.👩👶👨

Thanks, Fluffy! It's good to see you again! I see my PCP in a month and I will discuss this with her. I'll also discuss it next week with the bariatric coordinator at the hospital to determine my best course of action. I am already avoided spicy or acidic foods because they burn on the way down. And I already do several core-strengthening exercises, so that may be some help. Thanks for your concern and support, I always appreciate your advice!

Heart complications after surgery? Only 25yo
countryrae2001 replied to countryrae2001's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My bariatric surgeon is actually on leave so I haven't seen her in a while, but the other doc/nurse thinks I should go to the cardiologist as well, but they also think I'm having issues with acid reflux. I do know I've had major issues with Gerd in the past. And I can tell I'm having some issues with it now. But it's a separate side of the plate, the things I feel when it comes to the acid reflux and "when" i feel them in comparison to what and when I feel these heart issues, if that makes any sense. Have you contacted your bariatric surgeon about your recent ER visits and problems with eating? What does your bariatric surgeon think? -

How many calories a day should I be eating?
Creekimp13 replied to Yo-yo girl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist and doctor are 100% on board with my diet. I'm not on my own...everything is monitored and approved. When I was selecting a bariatric surgery team, one of my criteria was to find a team that did not stress keto-only and had more flexability with people who prefer vegetarian diets. My research university serves an international population that has a lot of culturally vegan and vegetarian people.....so my dietitians are more experienced with adapting a healthy bariatric diet to different diets. Both my doc and nutritionist are enthusiastic about my choice of Mayo Clinic Diet, (they also like Mediterranean, DASH and Japanese...which are similar)...so we have a lot of options:) I think it's important to get professional input, support and help through the process. -
Question for sleevers
GreenTealael replied to moondoggie1983's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Reach out to your bariatric team first for clarity, they may have ALL the answers you are looking for. The plans vary so greatly you may end up with more questions and no answers that will help YOU Currently I'm at: 60+ protein ,>80 carbs, ~45 fats I for example am very carbon sensitive so I tried to focus solely on protein earlier on but I also don't tolerate meat for long periods so I have to rotate food groups, then I said to my team I just want to be a vegetarian again and they said OK. I was expecting great resistance. My new rules are similar to old ones but I work with the NUT to make sure in not stunting my progress either. -
Am I messing up? Advice pls :)
GreenTealael replied to Pink nova's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eating out and pre packaged foods at whole foods can sabotage you when you can't track properly. You may just have to cook those separate meals or they eat what you eat. I know easier said than done, but this is the life now. Carbs are tricky, ask your NUT where they want you but high sodium will make you retain water weight. Walking is amazing and free I would wait until you get a green light for stuff like kickboxing Check in with your bariatric team for details on specifics because they will have a plan in place for you to follow for success. Safe journey! -
Many centers/surgeons sell Bariatric-marketed products as a revenue stream for them, not because they’re better or necessary, but instead to make $$. IMO, don’t waste your money on new vitamins that are equivalent to the ones you already have. I got caught up in the madness and purchased chewable and dissolving vitamins prior to surgery, but then afterwards they made me nauseous or caused me to throw up because they contained Sugar Alcohols. Post-bypass, SAs no longer agree with me. You don’t need to worry about vitamins the first month post-op; instead, your #1 priority should be on getting more than 64 oz of fluids each day. Then after the first month you should be able to take vitamins in pill form, but preferably one at a time, not a big handful like what you may have done pre-wls. And the large pills may need to be cut in half. REMINDER: Iron, calcium, and thyroid medication need to all be taken separate from each other (2-4 hours apart) as they will impede absorption if taken together.

Soda after gastric sleeve?

Ask your bariatric team, it may not be forbidden on your plan. But if it is do try to follow their instructions. -

Welcome to both of you., PrettyGirlLJ and Lora67. You will find a lot of new friends here. We all have gone through or are going through the Weight Loss Process. Are you planning a bypass, sleeve,or lap band? Most of us are sleeve or bypassn but there are still, pisters with all the different, kinds. And there, are a,lit more varieties than you would think. I'm the US, UK and Canada these are the, more popular but overseas they do these and a few more styles. Feel free to ask any questions you may have, if,i don't have an answer someone else in the World wide Bariatric Pal community will. Stick, around, we grow on you! -

Frustr8 replied to modymatey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I did,not say darkness I said a deepness of thought and concern, oh how I wish I still could edit my pistings, the original alpha system on the Bariatric Pall Android app I could for up to 2 hours, with,5he beta it is gone forever. This is why you will often see subsequent postings from me. And even when my post is short enough,to can see it all, this demented phone still screws things up. This time it even deleted part of a phrase. Sorry. -
Did they give you a vitamin sheet with how mu h of each vitamin you need? That's what my surgeon did. They said a high potency multi vitamin (I use 2 Flintstones complete for 200% rda), then extra b complex, D, b12, calcium, and iron. They suggested brands that meet all the requirements, but I like my regimen. More small pills to take/chew, but I have seen too many complain about the huge nasty all 1 one bariatric varieties. So far so good for me, except vitamin D. But I'm taking 3x what they recommend, so we will see what happens. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app

Am I the only one who loves their band?
sparkplug replied to michellemybelle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have not been to my bariatric doctor since my surgery. Have never had a fill, I rely entirely on the band, do not need to have the feeling of full because of the band being tightened up. It has been my choice to use this where I am comfortable and if something should go wrong I will have to find a new surgeon since my insurance does not cover this locally and there is not a bariatric doctor within 200 miles from here. Good luck and and try to make this work where you are totally in control, not waiting for your body to tell you to STOP eating because of pain from eating too much. -
Biotin will not do anything for Telogen Effluvium, I have confirmed this with a dermatologist and Bariatric surgeon. It helps regrow hair but cannot prevent the shedding phase. Minoxidil will only prolong the prevention of the shedding phase but eventually you will shed once you discontinue use (so I just didn't bother, I have long term commitment issues) I searched scholarly journals and med research heavily prior to surgery because this was my one vain concern and deciding factor on which surgery I would have (I had VSG) Also RNY tends to shed more due to malabsorption and DS even more. But in the end not everyone will and genetics plays a role in that.

HELP - Grazing all day
Orchids&Dragons replied to Orchids&Dragons's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
This is exactly what has me terrified. Right now, I have to eat this often to get all the protein in. But I feel like I'm setting myself up for disaster by eating every couple of hours. Last night I had a shake at 8:30 because I was still 28g short! But I'm really worried about eating out of boredom/frustration when I get to the point that I can. So far, I don't think I've had too much head hunger because it hasn't been too hard to avoid all the food being cooked in my house. But, even then, is it because there's no head hunger or because I'll be miserable for hours if I take a bit of your steak fajitas? I mean, yeah, it does smell really good and I did snag a cooked slice of mushroom. Sadly, with 4 grown men in the house, my kitchen is a bariatric mine field! -
Considering a lap band - scared after reading this forum!
Viviparker replied to Elrix's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The Band has to be removed after about 10 years.. I had mine done at 14 yrs and my surgeon had extreme difficulty removing the embedded band and adhesions. Cosmetically the scars left are ugly. With the Sleeve and Band you get chronic acidosis and long term there is a risk of Osophogeal cancer.. The Bypass causes a clinical pernicious anaemia bypassing the jejunum and you are on B12 shots for the rest of your life. All this should be borne in mind when making decisions. Further I was told that after two years surgery of any sort starts to fail. For the super obese bariatric surgery may be the only option but this whole raft of treatment is desperate measures. Think carefully this is serious stuff. -
Guess who got their surgery date!!!!!!
Frustr8 replied to Dessy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You have any questions, just ask. You won't shock,us, most of us have gone through or are going through the same stages ourselves. So never fear it,is too silly or too trivial, we can and will help. I am a future RnY bypass, no never mind, most of the rules are the same. My compatriot CreekImp us spit on with her tips. Some I am finding helpful: Cut down your portion sizes. U am an only child but I ate like I had 7-8 brothers and sisters reaching for,my turkey drumstick. Slow down your speed of eating, you get no bonus for eating fast, you are not punching a time clock, life gives you more than 5 m8nutes to eat a 6 course meal. And 6 course meals should be a thing of the past anyway. If you slow down, you will be learning to chew each bite multple times instead of bolting it down. I confess, I ate so much and so fast,i didn't know what food tasted like. Now I am beginning to know and some the things taste pretty fine. There were times in the past when I ate until it hurt, I got indigestion or even barfed. I am very greatful those days are behind me. Don't sit in frontof the TV. chomping away. I remember with horror the times I demolished an entire bag of Fritos or Lays Barbeque chips and never even noticed what they tasted like. If some of my dietary sins horrify you, think how I feel . My PCP still has binge eating on my health record, I have tried getting him tobecpunge it but he won't! Giving up caffeine is good, and you certainly should do,it but also give up sugar sweetened empty calorie empty food value colas, root beers, soda pop. In fact anything sugar swettened, crackers, cookies, pies, pretzels any thing with snack,in its name. Sounds like famine and austerity, maybe so but whether you realize it you are,not engaged in a fight for your future life. Please believe me, where you are going to end up is vastly better than where you are now. Gosh, you're thinking , what a bossy broad I pulled the chain of here! Yep guess I am. But much of what I'm saying I am reminding myself of as I say it. Oh I am far from perfect. But I am willing to keep trying until I get it,right. I have spent most of my 72years of life eating in a wrong manner, and it is more good luck than good planning haven't died already. I have looked the Angel of Death in the face and he is an UGLY dude I get so out of breath a toddler with short stubby legs could outrun me Every joint in my body hurts and several of them are now artificial. Every year fewer and fewer of my high school and college friends are alive to talk to. I have a 55th h.s. class reunion coming up. My class numbered over 300, there are 100-150 of us left. My grandparents, parents, husband and son are dead. My son died suddenly at 31, no not drugs, from a condition my genes may have given him and was never diagnosed. 10 years and I still feel the guilt. Late diagnosed female Aspergers/autistic. Was raised feeling there was something intrinsically wrong with me, in the days when parents were told if I was a boy I could be ADHD or Autistic since I was a female I was just Weird, Even had relatives tell me to kill myself because of the fact I was no,use to anybody, and now I've outlived them all . Plenty of excuses to kill myself by overeating, but excuses don't keep you warm at night, they don't prolong or enhance your life span. So I am reaching, out to bariatric surgery for a tool to help me because I can't do it all alone, I have the will, I have, the determination and after 43 million diet plans that didn't work, gave me no hope of long term success, this is my last best hope and while I have the srength left to grasp it, I shall. And l8ke the Phoenix Bird I shall rise, from the ashes of my,lady and fly strong swift and free as long as my wings can beat against the winds of life. Care to join me? No guarantees other than a chance at future life, but my dear friend, that is Good Enough For Me. -
Need encouragement that not everybody gains back all of the weight they lost after gastric sleeve
Creekimp13 replied to hopeful333's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons says the following: As many as 50 percent of patients may regain a small amount of weight (approximately 5 percent) two years or more following their surgery. However, longitudinal studies find that most bariatric surgery patients maintain successful weight-loss long-term. ‘Successful’ weight-loss is arbitrarily defined as weight-loss equal to or greater than 50 percent of excess body weight. Often, successful results are determined by the patient, by their perceived improvement in quality of life. In such cases, the total retained weight-loss may be more, or less, than this arbitrary definition. Such massive and sustained weight reduction with surgery is in sharp contrast to the experience most patients have previously had with non-surgical therapies. -
