  1. I was eating yogurt and cottage cheese the day I was discharged and eggs by day 4.... BUT... This was allowed in my surgeons plan. It is very progressive, and to be honest, I'm so grateful for that with each post I read about someone one liquids or purees that is miserable. I had no pain or complications, and most of his patients don't on this plan. Of course though, despite my progressive plan, I always encourage others to follow their surgeons plan.
  2. When it's hot outside I make the following: I scoop Protein powder or one container of Greek yogurt I cup of frozen tropical fruit 10-12oz of calorie free liquid 4 ice cubes. Blend the jeepers out of it and enjoy a summertime smoothie--approx. 180cal and 15-24+gr of protein. Yummy and so cooling. Good luck and keep cool. Prayers going up.
  3. If you can eat meat and eggs, then you are on at least soft foods Can you eat Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna, other soft fish, etc?

    May bypass group!

I had my RNY surgery on May 25th 2016. I weighed in at 198 during my first post op appointment. I was also cleared for soft foods. I follow the rules and play by the book. I was doing fine until one day last week every thing I ate got stuck.. Even yogurt and apple sauce. I have been taking miralax for a bm because I have not had one since the 5th of June. I do not weigh myself. I don't even own a scale anymore because I have had issues with "the numbers" in the past. The doctors are suspecting that I have a stricture. I have an appointment on Monday. 5. There are different philosophies within my hospitals team of Bariatric surgeons and we find this out during support group breakout sessions. For example, one surgeon allows Fluid intake along with Protein "snacks". My surgeon does not allow fluids for 30 mins after eating. The nurses who are in attendance have to ask which surgeon we had before confirming diet guidelines. I stick to what my surgeon had advised. My guidelines are eat protein first, veg/fruit second and starch last. I get full very fast (I have to work on eating slower). I too would be lost without yogurt. That is my go to food. Puréed foods

Refried beans, sugar free yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes with unflavored protein powder mixed in...I was allowed to have Mac n cheese if it was over cooked and thoroughly mashed first, but I never did it or the potatoes because of the carbs, ricotta bake, lasagna smashed with a fork-although again the carbs are too much IMO, cook an over easy egg using Pam cooking spray and then smash with a fork til it makes egg slop. I ate A LOT of eggs during puréed stage...

How do I tell my surgeon he screwed up?

I'm pretty sure no one said you INTENDED to eat all of that. HOWEVER, the point is, you did. You did what is referred to as "mindless eating". Every bite that goes into your mouth should be deliberate. Now you know for the future, to get a second plate, and put the extra on that plate, and set it to the side. If your surgeon didn't give you specifics on how much to eat (and I'm astonished that he said eat until you are comfortable!!!), then some of us can tell you what our plan was, and you may wish to think about adopting it. I am to eat 1/3 cup of food at each meal. If there is green salad, I can have that in addition to my 1/3 cup of food. Between six months and 12 months post-op, I can move to 1/2 cup of food at each meal. What this looks like in real life is this: Breakfast is one egg with a slice of cheese, or one greek yogurt. lunch and dinner are grilled chicken breast, fish, steak, pork chop, ribs, meatballs, tuna, chili, shrimp, etc. - 1/3 cup. I may have one or two bites of a green vegetable or salad. After dinner I have one sugar-free popsicle. If I have a smaller lunch, I may have a Protein bar around 3pm. When I'm not eating, I'm getting fluids in. I have absolutely no idea how much I can eat, because I have never tested it.

    Extreme Weight Loss

I would stick to the protien shake in the morning but substitute lunch and dinner with lean ground turkey cooked with some light seasoning and like spice. Also, for a snack, I would have a Greek yogurt. You will end the day around 600 calories, and around 90 grams of protien. Hopefully this will help you! Best, Sanju

    Vacation

Get a lunch box, fill it with things you're allowed. For instance I was allowed Jello, unflavored apple sauce, yogurt plus other things. I also got an 8 oz rubber made shaker cup (with a screw on lid). Filled it with my Protein powder and I would just buy cold Water to mix it with when I got to where ever we were eating at. Not one restaurant said anything to me. Have fun!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Lower BMI Gastric Sleeve Patients

My highest weight is on my profile, 207. That was after I had decided to get surgery and before pre-op diet, and I had kind of gone on a, I'm going to eat whatever I like and not worry about weight gain, rampage, and gained probably 8-10 lbs. I lost that weight and then some on my pre-op diet. I did have my surgery in the US, I'm from alabama and I had my surgery with dr schmitt in birmingham. I did have issues with adjusting to the right portion sizes and learning what I could tolerate. Before surgery, I don't think I had massive issues with overeating, or eating unhealthy foods. I probably ate more than I should have, but I have a very slow metabolism and thyroid issues, so the sleeve has helped me be satisfied with much smaller portions and control my cravings. Before surgery I didn't really eat many processed foods, I cooked my own meals and didn't snack a lot, but I did have rice pretty much every day with my dinner, and some sort of carb for lunch. After surgery, I barely eat carbs. I can hardly fit them in with all the Protein and Water requirements! I have tried to eat a little rice, and protein Pasta but they didn't settle right with me. I'll probably try again closer to my goal weight. I live by myself, and my family is states away, so for me the hardest part of life after surgery was feeling alone and without support. I told one friend who lives states away that I was having surgery, and my parents. No one else, not even my siblings, know I've had surgery. Adjusting to the restriction was hard, but I quickly figured out that I could have yogurt for lunch, add protein to my coffee in the mornings, eat chicken for dinner, and beans/cheese/salsa as a snack. I follow the same routine pretty much every day, and I'm really comfortable with it. I track all my food, I bought a kitchen scale (HIGHLY recommend, helped me with portions a LOT). So I might have "given up" rice, and carby lunches on a daily basis, but if I am out socially then I don't feel too bad about indulging in a few fries or bread. I can still eat anything I want. I just don't feel the need to, and some things settle better than others. I no longer feel the need to finish the whole plate of fries (I physically can't), I'm good after having 2 or 3. Not feeling hunger is great. I do get "head hungry" at times but usually it passes. I no longer feel like the whale in the room. I might still be the biggest in the room at times, but I don't feel unhealthy, and I know that in time I'll be out of the overweight BMI category.
  11. I make my shakes with Water and add cottage cheese, Greek yogurt or Peanut Butter... Put it in the blender with ice... Sprinkle cinnamon powder on top before drinking... I use a combat Protein powder, Cookies and cream flavor. "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them" Einstein

    Extreme Weight Loss

So my typical day consist of Protein shake in the morning made with GNC Protein powder and HEB Mootopia about 32 grams of protein, lunch time I've been eating a Protein Bar 10 to 20 grams of protein mattering what I can handle and at night I eat a Greek Yogurt with 15 grams of protein. Surgeon wants me eating 60 grams of protein so I am there. Real food does not always go down real easy. I have tried a lot and chicken and shrimp do not work. Taco meat is the best that I found I'll eat that with refried Beans and a little queso and I am good to go, but that is like once or twice a week. I have not got the results back form either of the test yet so I do not know. I have also seem my GP who was on the border of being concerned i guess. He was going to look at the test results and let me know his opinion. I really trust my GP but I am a little on the fence about the surgeon at this time. I am taking no Medication at this time. Thanks Captain

    Puréed foods

Refried beans with a little melted cheee & salsa, cottage cheese with salad dressing or salsa or other savory mix-ins (PB2 works well too), Greek yogurt with PB2 stirred in, poached eggs, Shelly's Ricotta Bake. I would also take some meat, puree it with a flavorful sauce, and then heat it up in the microwave with a little shredded cheese on top. I know what you are thinking . . . pureed meat, gross! But when you add something tasty in the food processor and heat it up, it tastes just like a casserole, only without the carby stuff you don't need like rice or noodles. Some of my favorite combos were (just to give you some ideas): ranch-flavor tuna with ranch dressing, sriracha sauce, and pepper jack cheese Shrimp with buffalo wing sauce and bleu cheese Chicken breast with marinara sauce & mozzarella cheese Turkey breast with peanut satay sauce & jack cheese Ground bison with low carb bbq sauce and cheddar cheese Chicken with tikka masala sauce and Swiss cheese Good luck!

  16. Get a kitchen scale and start weighing your portions. If you haven't, sign up for a MFP account (or similar) and start tracking your food intake. I think it's fine to try out shakes and bars, but honestly I would focus on healthy, low carb, unprocessed foods pre-op. Shakes and bars tend to be high carb, high calorie, overly processed and easily consumed in huge but unsatisfying amounts. People need them immediately post-op, but long term do better with things like chicken breast, broccoli, Greek yogurt, almonds, etc. rather than the glorified candy bars called protein bars, IMO. eta: another "eating habit" that you may want to start practicing is not drinking with your meals, or for 30 minutes after. Good luck to you!

    Plastics 5/2 in North Miami

I have a seroma that requires draining. You can cause more scarring. Pull a stitch. Get an infection. Wear your compression garment all the time unless showering. I recommend going to walgreens or Walmart and getting a big bottle of hibiclens. It's about $20. Wash your body for a few days before surgery and for weeks afterward. Keeps your risk of infection low. Supplement your intake with Protein powder. I added unflavored to my broth, soups and yogurt. Increasing your protein facilitates healing. I also took arnica Montana for swelling. Take your pain meds. That's great advice thank you Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  18. Hi. I'm almost 3 weeks post op and I'm struggling with food. I am on the soft food phase, I follow the rules. I eat very slow and I take very small bites (the size of a pencil eraser) yet everything I eat gets stuck even yogurt and apple sauce. As you can imagine it's very uncomfortable. What can I do? I am looking for a buddy

@tammyqp16... Grilled chicken, deli meat, cheese, Greek yogurt, spinach, tomatoes, hemp seed, flax seed, blueberries, apples, nuts all kinds, great added to yogurt with cinnamon..If you must have rice I would go with brown rice and Pasta I would get rice pasta. Best to avoid pasta and rice as they don't fill you up...I think that's the bulk of my weekly shopping list, of course I add change as needed Ground turkey/chicken/beef to make chil I add veggies to it.. 20. Ditto what's been said. No way could I get all my Protein from food until maybe 1.5 years post op and honestly still can't most days at 2.5 year out and I've been at goal for a year and a half! I also used 5-6 small meals a day rather than three squares again because my capacity wasn't large enough to fit everything in. Still do that to this day. High protein Snacks like Greek yogurt, shrimp, tuna, Jerky and yeah Quest Protein Bars.

What do you buy at Costco?

I think they are tasty, I usually take them off the stick and add them to salad... I'm pre op so I can do that lol... I thought the price was good for all you get... If you live near trader joe's they have grilled chicken strip which are also tasty, depending on where I'm doing errands depends on which one I get... Let me know if you like them Why can't you make that sauce with Greek yogurt, I know I've seen recipes online for that. 25. You're fine. It took me almost a year to hit my Protein goals and I never could have done it without 2 Protein shakes a day. I'd voice your concern and see if you can't have one a day along with what you are eating. You can also add protein powder to yogurt, SF pudding, Peanut Butter... eggs were really hard on me for awhile as was chicken. Have you tried a softer protein like crab or shrimp? Crab legs were heaven for me because they were so soft and SO normal after so many weeks of liquids.
