  1. I've noticed the weight loss is slower after the revision but still moving at a steady clip. I had my revision to bypass in Nov 2021 so still losing but I'm noticing more plateaus and slowdowns, it eventually starts moving again though so no concerns.

Why is goal weight 118? Going by your height, it looks and sounds extremely low even for a Bikini body.
  3. 3 week stall is what we call it out here, you can search for it on the forum. Majority of us have gone through it. So have I. I lost weight a week after surgery when I was clear fluids, but 3 weeks nada. I stalled for 3 weeks with no weight changes and thereafter it started coming down. Even after the first month, your weight comes down in steps than a constant decline. So you’ll have those phases when you won’t see much movement on the scale.

Hello. I had a BMI of 35, surgery in South Florida. insurance paid, told my husband and one friend who were both totally supportive. I decided to do the surgery when i tried my last diet and my knees started to hurt with exercise. I realized any more weight and it was going to snowball out of control because I couldn’t even walk on treadmill without joint pain and I have been gaining at least five pounds a year on average for over ten years.
  5. After your revision how much extra weight did you loose after? Did it come off slower than the first surgery?
  6. GoldenGirl1321, I am scheduled April 19th too!! Where are you located? I am in Maine, we should keep in contact since our dates are the same. How are you doing, I haven’t lost much weight preprocedure. I have my prep visits scheduled April 4 and April 6 ( dietician and surgeon). Then the prep begins… excited but anxious too!!

    Excess skin after WLS

Ok: obligatory response to the oft-asked question/concern about excess skin: Basically what @Arabesque said above and that you will know how weight loss affects u when u know. There is no real way to guarantee no excess skin other than NOT losing weight…and im sure thats not an option, right? With that said, here was my experience I started off at 235 with a BMI of 43…yep im short. (223 on surgery day). I was healthy/normal sized until about age 30, at which point i steadily gained weight until i got to morbid obesity by the time i got into my 40s. I had surgery when I was 47. I lost my weight relatively quickly, getting down to 127 in 7 months. I lost a few more lbs over the next couple months as settled into maintenance. Ive hovered around 115 (give or take 5 lbs) ever since. This morning i was 118.8 And yep, I had excess skin. But it was literally just that…skin. I had very little fat tissue underneath so I didn’t look so much rolly, than it did crepey/lumpy …it looked crumply-bedsheet-looking. I did get the skin removed when i was 14 months post op via tummy tuck, arm lift and breast lift. As i had very little actual fat, the total weight removed from my body was a measly 400g. To those around me not really paying attention (which was probably almost everyone) the difference before and after PS was not very dramatic, if they noticed anything at all. It just looked like i toned up a little. I felt awesome in a bikini after plastics. But honestly, i felt awesome in that same bikini BEFORE plastics. But don’t get me wrong, i am super pleased i got it done and would do it all again 10 times out of 10. You may find you are quite happy/satisfied with your body after weight loss excess skin or not. Or you can go the plastics route. I’ve seen plastics results on here that are jaw dropping. But thats still a ways down the road for you. Your time and energies are probably better expensed on getting the weight off and changing and adapting to a new lifestyle. Good Luck! ❤️ P.S. For a visual, here is my progress pic covering the first 3 years (im 3.5 post today). You can see the skin situation with and without clothes on the top two rows. The bottom row is after PS.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I’m 6 weeks from surgery and the wait is killing me! I decided to start lifting weights 🏋️‍♀️ so that I can start the healthy lifestyle process now.
  9. Not really a "weird" victory but the constant little voice in my head is gone. I'm not screaming inside about how I need to lose weight and why do I keep doing things like ... eating. I'm not thinking about what I'm going to eat next, or what I just ate and why it was "bad". All the other destructive disordered eating thoughts have just gone away. It's nice and quiet in my head. I like it.

    Excess skin after WLS

The NP at my clinic told me that with my BMI being low and my age that I shouldn’t have alot. She said not to expect to have a six pack but not enough excess skin that it would cause any medical issues for sure. In other words insurance wasn’t gonna pay to remove it because at my BMI I wouldn’t have enough. But I guess I’ve got genetics on My side. My guess is if I lost much more I would have some though because this is the weight I always got down to on diets. Never smaller.
  11. Hi , I am 7 weeks post surgery . The surgeon found I had a hiatus hernia which he fixed along with tightening the muscle . One day after surgery I got oesophageal spasms which was extremely painful so they knocked me out by a drip for 4 days until they got it under control. My sleeve seems to be successful but am often still have feelings of faintness , and tiredness. also am wondering if someone can share what and how much they eat during the day . I think I am only getting 400 to 500 calories . I am also suffering from head hunger at night and am nibbling at cashews to try and satisfy it . The weight loss has been good and to have loss this much weight without the sleeve would have been torture and been less than half the weight loss . I don’t regret doing this but sometimes feel it is quite hard .

    My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22

Hey all- sorry I have been MIA. I’m not gonna lie- I went to a dark place. This thread seemed to change from me well us sharing our experiences post sleeve to people complaining about the financial side or honesty telling me I was wrong and other pointed comments in my inbox. So I took a break. But there were quite a few of you who are so supportive and I’m sorry I ghosted. Here’s my update I’m almost two months (roughly a week shy of 2 months) out and down a total of 36 pounds. I go to the gym 3-5 times a week and do quite a bit of weight lifting and cardio. I feel so much better. I’m down two pant sizes which is fantastic. Lately I’ve been having odd soreness in my lower back and shoulders so I contacted my nurse- she thought it was that my body was still holding it’s self like I had those 36 pounds still. She recommended I get a massage- hey doctors orders I’m not gonna say no to a little pampering. But honestly it worked. No longer am I sore in odd places. I hope you all are doing well on your journey and remember every body is different with the loss. Listen to yours and your care team.

new here and have a few questions

It would be helpful to all of us reading your questions to know your stats. You can fill that out on your profile. It consists of which surgery you had, your beginning weight and your height. It helps those who would like to answer your questions answer them properly, because sometimes the answers can vary depending on which surgery you had. Thx.

    Excess skin after WLS

I am one year out and 5 pounds from a normal BMI and I do not have any excess skin at all. I was a 35 BMI and a slow loser and I think all that helped plus I am 43. I also wasn’t at my highest weight for very long as a result of many yo yo diets.

    One Year Sleeve Anniversary!!

I am a year out as well and could also easily eat 1800 calories but I try not to because I know that would make me gain. If you do want to lose more you will probably be like me and have to measure everything out and plan snack times and make yourself wait for them even though you are maybe a little hungry. It has gotten harder for me now with the hunger hormones back, though. Congratulations on your loss so far.

    Dreaded hair loss - question

LOL yea youtube has sooooo many great videos. So many people post their weight loss surgery journey on there from pre op, even the surgery and right after the surgery and so on. Very fun to watch the differences between each person.

    Dreaded hair loss - question

There are several videos on this subject on youtube of people explaining their personal hair loss issues with weight loss surgery. I have seen some that it thins and others that lost decent chunks but it all grows back. Kinda dreading that too when i have my surgery lol. I hate hats. lol
  19. I was sleeved in 2015 and just went through the revision from sleeve to bypass about 3 1/2 weeks ago. So as I'm still in recovery mode I can't really provide a full answer all of your questions. 1. Reason for conversion: I developed a hiatal hernia where part of the sleeve had slipped up through the opening of the diaphragm into the chest cavity, which was causing chest discomfort and only allowing me to eat a couple ounces of food at a meal. After doing an EGD my surgeon was concerned enough to schedule my revision within a week. He said if they just fixed the hernia there was a high likelihood it would recur with the sleeve. If he converted to bypass he said there was a very low likelihood I'd have any further problems. I also had GERD issues from the sleeve which I wanted to address. 2. Post-op period: I'd say for me it was essentially the same. I had the same surgeon and facility which were both great. Recovery plan is the same for both surgeries (clear liquid, full liquid, puree, soft solids, etc.) I had a bit more pain with the bypass but I'm 7 years older than when I had the sleeve. 3. Best and worst part: Can't really answer this yet, except to say it's nice to lose some additional weight (I never hit my goal with the sleeve) but it's tough to have to start over with the recovery. 4. Dumping: Haven't experienced it yet, but I am just up to about 2 to 2.5 oz of soft protein so I have not been able to even try anything that might cause dumping. My thought on the revision is if you are experiencing significant GERD it is definitely worth considering. GERD can cause Barret's esophagus and ultimately lead to esophageal cancer if not kept in check. Having had a relative who died of that cancer in her early 50's I was concerned enough to want to solve it if I could.

    Weight loss after surgery

Wonderful progress! How much did you lose in 3 months before surgery? Losses in excess of 4lb per week won't be just fat loss and "stalls" while eating below replacement calories are stalls of weight and not fat loss. Scales are evil. Just my 2c.

    Sleeve or Bypass? Confused

While it is indeed standard practice to repair hiatal hernias with a gastric sleeve operation, I don't think any doctor can guarantee you that your hiatal hernia will never come back. The things I've read indicate that the gastric sleeve seems to make your stomach MORE likely to herniate (since a sleeved stomach is narrower and therefore can slide up through the diaphragm hiatus more easily than a normal stomach). I know for a fact that there are some gastric sleeve patients who have had multiple hiatal hernia repairs after the surgery (and others who were told to convert to a bypass because of their hernias). As far as the acid reflux issue, worse acid reflux is a known risk of the gastric sleeve. Some people are lucky and have no issues, but others do develop acid reflux for the first time after the sleeve or have much worse acid reflux after the sleeve. I would definitely ask him about why he thinks that this is not a concern in your situation and what his plan would be for how to deal with it if your acid reflux does get worse after the surgery. (If he tells you that you would just take a PPI for the acid if it gets worse after surgery, keep in mind that PPIs are not enough to control the acid for some people who have really bad acid reflux after the sleeve). You are smart to be thinking about these issues before your surgery. Personally, I deal with both acid reflux and a hiatal hernia after the sleeve (and no I didn't have a hiatal hernia before the sleeve - they looked for it when they did the sleeve). Knowing what I know now, I never would have gotten the sleeve. I think the bypass has stood the test of time better than the sleeve has - after decades of experience with the bypass, surgeons know the risks of the bypass and are better at managing them, whereas problems with the sleeve are often handled by just converting over to the bypass anyway. Just look at all the stories on the revision forum about people converting from sleeve to bypass because of sleeve problems: https://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1302-revision-weight-loss-surgery-forums-new/

WLS (sleeve) schedule for 4/26th 😁

The hair loss generally lasts about three months. This is the same for the people who didn’t take supplements like biotin & those who did. The hair you’ll lose is already dead & would have been shed anyway. The stress of the surgery & weight loss accelerate your natural hair loss cycle but your natural hair regrowth remains unchanged. So while you’re losing hair, you’re still growing new hair. It is only the new hair that may benefit from any supplements. During the first month you often feel weak, have low energy, experience some brain fog & shorter concentration spans. But we are all different in our recovery. A friend was back at work after a week no issue. Another took three weeks. Me, I still struggled after 4 weeks but my BP was very low (but that is my normal).
  23. My cholesterol went up too & I was also told it was because of the weight loss. They still kept their eye in it. It was back within my usual range of about 5 (had been that for decades regardless of diet or weight) once my weight stabilised. Now it’s low 4s. The back pain & other body aches are also related to your weight loss. Your body is getting used to holding itself differently. Before it was compensating for the weight you were carrying. Now it’s relearning how to stand up straight again. A friend go also had surgery & I often joke about how we still slouch a bit. We don’t have a large tummy to prop us up anymore. 😆 I also had back pain until I bought myself some new bras that fit my smaller breasts - made a big difference.
  24. How much weight did you lose in pre op? More you lose prior to surgery less likely you are going to lose a lot quickly in the immediate post op stage. Also depends how much weight you have to lose as well. Was your surgery date weight the same as your original surgery day weight?

    Weight Gain

A little late in the game but I agree with everything mentioned above. Three week stall, watwr weight, etc. as long as you are sticking to your plan it will break.
