  1. Oh, this made me chuckle! Good NSV!
  2. Ok. not really. but I always assumed I might have gotten a lil shorter because years ago I went from 34 to 32 inch inseam on my pants. This is a NSV because i need to go back to 34 inch inseam because I can wear my pants higher up my waist, where they should be.

    I'm here to help...

LauraK - I told him to get out - ;0) and this time he did ;0) I just chuckle to myself - that he keeps calling to know if I'm ok - lol I'm 55 been on my own since 16 - Ya I'm ok.. I'm a big girl :0).. WTG on your walk... Yep aint it amazing on what we can do today opposed to a yr ago.. I'm still amazed today.. I think those things are the best NSV's - It' what keeps me motivated.. Charlene - WTG on getting up w/o support - we have an exercise like that in bootcamp - the 1st time they did it - I wasn't too good at it - but we did it last week and I am better - so these classes are helping me.. WTG on your food last night - I'm an enchilada eater or chili reno - I too have to have red meat weekly or at least every couple weeks - and I am liking chicken more now too.. Eva - Yep I can feel fall coming - well as much fall as we get - but evenings & mornings are pretty good - it's suppose to be hot here for the next 2 days 110+
  4. A great nsv- keep up the good work!

Traveled for a week, gained 4 lbs

Thanks everybody--I'm on the True Path, with the exception of exercise--I'll get there. But the calories are under control--and I feel better than when I was eating all that restaurant food. One of my male co-workers who has also been losing weight (we talk about it) told me today that I was beautiful lol! Not in a creepy way,or a "you have a pretty face" way--it was sincere, I found it funny, I just laughed (and said 'thank you'). I know that my motivation is better health, but it was kind of a nice little NSV that made it a little easier to not go for the higher calorie food for dinner. Someone out there thinks I'm beautiful lol--what a concept! And at 292 lbs! After I lose 100 lbs do I get elevated to "Goddess" status? ROFL!
  6. OK, I couldn't wait any longer. I have to see who else is scheduled for October. The closer it gets the more I'm looking forward to the surgery. Well, not the actual surgery.......but you understand what I mean. Is anyone going to have surgery in Tijuana on the 11th? I'm looking forward to possibly meeting someone from the message board during my trip. I know that I will be at the same recovery house that is used by Dr. Almanza. I keep thinking about all of the NSV's I'm looking forward to happening. I swear everyday I think of a new one. Today's is .....looking forward to not being so sweaty all of the time. :001_tongue:
  7. Congratulations!! What a NSV to wear your ring once again. Keep up the good work!
  8. Okay so I am not sure whether the nurse made a mistake or not but my BP today was 110 over 70 (She was doing a manual reading). At my PCP they have a digital version and I am usually 117 over 75. Back in 9/08 I finally broke down and went to the doctor about severe knee pain. Admittedly I was in a lot of pain at the time but my BP was like 160 over something high.
  9. Hello everyone--trying to catch up. I am doing okay. No pain with the flipped port. Just a twinge every now and then. For the first time, I am at a plateau I guess--no weight loss in about 3 weeks, but I am okay. Until I get the port thing fixed on September 28th, I am not really worried about weight loss. I have been going to the gym and working out harder, so it could be muscle. I will get my focus after the port thing, until then I guess I am like Christie on the weightloss sabbatical--I still haven't totally gorged out, just not in full mode like weighing my food, journaling, and counting every calorie. Just watching what I eat so not to get off track. Probably not going to meet the Labor Day challenge, but I am cool. Congrats on the NSV's

    NSV: new clothes!

Congrats! That's just a great NSV!

    NSV: new clothes!

Hey, that is an amazing result for you and an inspiration for a relative newbie! Although, my scales isn't moving rapidly (slow but steady wins the race is my new mantra; along with little acorns turn into big oak trees!!) I too had a recent NSV! Many years ago I bought a pair of sizee 20 (UK) jeans from the petite section - well I am only 5' 2" - and since that day I have never worn them out... in fact they did not do up at the button, and I kept them with the old saying 'one day they'll fit'! That day has arrived...YEY!! I can not only do them up, but they are comfortable and I can defo wear them in public... I am sooooo chuffed with myself it is unreal. I also had to recyle two pairs of jeans that were way to big and my 'snug' jeans are now loose... Doesn't it feel great!! I also know what you mean about the self confidence thing... I have a small group of friends that I share all my success with, weight, clothes, food, moods etc... but I recently went to work (not been there since my op due to it being out summer hols) and I purposely work the biggest hoodie I had to cover up... strange isn't it? Perhaps it is because I haven't told them about my sleeve, or that I don't want my weight to be the focus of my work... Dunno... gonna have to suss that one out myself!! Lets hope that this milestone continue 'til goal!
  14. Hi All, I thought I'd share some of what I thought were the odder moments of surgery. First off was I had been in my room several hours before I noticed the gown I was wearing when I was willed in was a different one. Now I know during surgery we are all laid out like Sunday chicken but it still felt odd to think of someone undressing and redressing me! I also had something called an On Q pump an odd little gizmo that pumps in a novacaine type drug into your stomach area. The last was a bit of a NSV well not really but felt like it they came to take me to x-ray for the upper gi they brought this wheelchair big enough to almost fit two of me in it. The barium stuff was nasty as could be but with someone like me with bad reflux I was able to do it. Oh and a last bit of advice for anyone waiting on surgery, when they bring you your first liquid tray do not go crazy mixing in the unflavored Protein into every thing (G) Nancy
  15. I don't really have any advice or tips for you as I am not banded yet... but I just wanted to say that what you've lost in such a short time is amazing! And NSVs, to me, are just as important as seeing that scale drop. Congratulations on the new capris. :]

Sorry to hear about your frustration. Just don't let that stop you from working out and doing what you know is right. Now would be a really good time to start taking measurements of your body, if you haven't already. The measurements will be more accurate for your efforts, whereas your body/weight will be different depending on water retention, certain foods you've eaten, etc. I remember well how frustrated I was between 4-8 months post-surgery. If not for the NSV (non-scale victories) I'm not sure I would have been able to keep it up. Hope that helps.
  17. Feeling pretty please with myself today... since my last post on the 4th when I hit my 70lb mark, I've flown past that and hit 82lbs lost this morning :tongue2: And I wore a new outfit to work today-something I never would have worn before- and besides everyone saying I looked good, someone told me I looked hot. That's a definite NSV for me I hope everyone is doing well, and no plataues are kicking your butts!
  18. Kipper - sounds like you are doing AWESOME!!! 34 pounds down, is a HUGE accomplishment.... Congratulations!!!... NSV victories are huge also - good for you.... 5-11 are hard - have you thought of starting a hobbie or going to the gym? I'm sewing like crazy and loving it... Try picking up a new skill... Keep on track, you are doing super great!!!
  19. Hi! Ive come to this site for encouragement during low moments and I want to join in. I'm Gail, 44, in California and had lap band surgery mid-June of this year. My first fill was last week. I started the process last November and had the surgery June 14. According to the home scale, (which is painfully close to the doctor's scale) I've dropped from 243 in May to 209.5 this morning. I'm 5'4" and my goal is to drop back down into the 130s, where I was for most of my 20s. I've been seriously battling my weight for 14 years and am eager for these pounds and bulges and bags to let loose! Right now, what I'm struggling with most, is battling old habits. I'm a spec. ed. teacher, mom and grad. student and now that school is back in session, I see how much time I spent actually eating every evening. I'm also struggling with exercise right now, too, working it into my schedule and seriously committing to it. I'm also struggling with redefining myself and finding comfort in something more than food. I'm fine during the day, downing Water mixed with Crystal Light and Protein shakes, but it's those hours from 5-11 that may do me in if I don't turn it around. I'd love any advice that anyone may wish to share. I've got 5 CCs in a 10 CC band and feel some restriction. My doctor is conservative and does fills only every eight weeks max. I'm happy to have lost this much, and today had a mild NSV when I realized that a pair of capris I couldn't even get over my butt pre-op were getting a little too loose today, but I'm feeling just a little blue right now, especially as I face my old high caloric habits square in the face. Thanks everyone! I have been soooo inspired by all of you!

    August Rush in bandland!

Beachbunny, So glad to read your post this morning. It's two weeks post op for me today and I am the same as I was last week; however, I started on mushies this last week and I think my body is acclimating. It's always disappointing to look at the scale and see nothing, but I figure I not only lost 17 pounds over the last three weeks, I also kept it to the same number for a week! That's a first. Usually when I am done with a diet I sabotage my efforts for a good week or two and put it all back on. So I'm looking for the NSVs this week and pretty happy about maintaining....besides, doesn't that mean next week should be pretty good weight loss!?
  21. Bobbie!!!! I'm so glad everything is okay! It sounds like while you've had a lot going on, there has been some really good things happening! Wooohoo on onederland girl, you go!!!! Congrats on both your scale and NSVs. You've done so amazingly well considering you haven't been able to be seen by the doctor in awhile. Hope time flies until Nov 1 when your new insurance kicks in. Congrats on the new job!!!! Great to 'see' you!

    NSV shout outs

This is a kind of odd NSV that men won't get and some women may not get it either. The last couple of times I went to the nail shop, I noticed that I can comfortably twist in the chair to get my nails done at the same time that I"m getting my toes done. :biggrin0: It used to be SOOO uncomfortable that I would sometimes stay longer to get them done at different times or come back on another day to get my toes done. Now, it's easy peasy to just twist to the side a little. I can tell that my stomach is disappearing. And the fitting into clothes that I haven't worn in 5+ years ain't bad either. :biggrin2: I'm down from my largest size (22W) to my medium size (20W) and those are getting loose. I'm headed for size 18! Yippeee!
  23. I had a three month post-op blood draw, and the doc said I'm in excellent health. All signs of my fatty liver have disappeared; the doc said my liver looks like the liver of a 20 year old (again what he mentioned after my surgery; I'm starting to think he has some weird liver fetish!). My kidneys are in excellent shape. My HDL/LDL are still a TINY bit off, but my overall cholesterol number (158) is excellent and improving, and my triglycerides are great. All the other numbers were excellent, which is a great improvement over the beginning of all the obesity co-morbidities that I was showing. And one real bonus, in three months, my total testosterone has gone from 352 (borderline low, reference is 350-850, I think) to 575. This is due to removing fat, which converts (aromatizes, technically) testosterone (good for men) to estrogen (bad for men). Thumbnail guess is that by the time I hit my target weight, my testosterone should be around 650-700, which will put me in the high range (although not dangerously or riskily so). This is excellent since men's testosterone starts decreasing in their 40's, leading to osteoporosis, heart problems, and depression. Stacking the deck by starting high is a good thing. Also the added "oomph" that higher testosterone will give to building and maintaining muscle mass is a good thing, and one thing that I've noticed already is that sex drive is way, way up (which may necessitate changes in my relationship, but all in all I'd rather be healthy!) So, all things considered, very positive stuff!
  24. EDIT: don't read if you don't want to read borderline self-aggrandizement. But if you like to hear about NSV's and how losing weight can make you feel better, read on... Well, I'm still losing relatively rapidly, so I didn't want to buy a LOT of clothes for fall, but since my old clothes are rapidly becoming tent-like, I needed some basics. I used to wear 2XLT (double-x large tall). The "T" was necessary because my gut would hang over the waistband of my jeans and the T-shirts weren't long enough to cover it (I'm only 6'1" so I don't really need super "tall man" clothes). I was thinking that maybe I could go down to a 2XL or maybe an XLT. Well, imagine my surprise to discover that XL fits me perfectly, and I actually might end up a snug "Large." I won't be any smaller than that because that's simply my build (shoulders and chest), and actually if I bulk up my muscles I may still need an XL, but I'm excited to essentially have lost two shirt sizes in three months. Also my jeans have dropped from a snug 48 inch waistband to a loose 44 moving towards a 42. By the end of the year, it's even odds that I'll be in 38's for the first time in a LONG time. My smallest adult size was 36 waist (which, again, is where you start to get limited not by fat but rather the muscle and bone of my hips and thighs). Lastly, my underwear have dropped from a snug XL to a form-fitting L, and may eventually get down to a medium. And I look good in them :biggrin2: I've always had fairly muscular thighs and glutes, and now that the fat is melting away, it's looking good down there. I feel like I'm bragging, but it's true -- I'm looking good in my biker briefs, and it's a nice change! Oh, I almost forgot. Instead of needing an 11 wide shoe, now I just need an 11. That isn't a huge morale builder or anything, but it DOES make finding shoes that fit much easier. My New Balance exercise shoes I just bought fit like a glove! All of this is tremendous for me. One downside is that the snugger fitting XL t-shirts actually touch my body. It's strange, but I think a lot of us heavier people are not used to clothes touching our bodies. Anyway, that shows where I definitely need to get back to the gym and keep my stomach and chest from sagging. Fortunately, I have excellent genetics and lots of determination, so I think I can pull everything back where it's supposed to be. So, I'm more determined than discouraged if I see that I'm not quite as ripped as I want to be. All in all, it's pretty exciting developments!
  25. Good Morning, one and all !! I've missed you all sooo much!! It's been a crazy month for me... lots going on. First of all, had a bad virus in my computer and had to send it away. That took 2 weeks, so I was off of everything. Then, I got a part time job ( 7 hours a week) working at Gordman's in the Maternity section. Thats been going pretty well. Then, I got a real job !! I've been in training for the past 3 weeks, and today is my first real day with my regular schedule! :-) I got a job with eHarmony... I'm in a call center. Not a job I really wanted, as I;ve done call center before with Amazon.com, but the pay totally kicks ass, AND it has amazing benifits. They kick in on Nov 1. SWEET! I can finally go back to my dr and check things out :-) So, last week I hit ONEDERLAND !!! WOOT! i weighed in at 198 LOL ... ok, so today i'm at 201, but confident it will go down again. I've been stuck at the same weight for the past 6 months or so... NSV - bought a new pair of jeans, and got into a 14/16 instead of an 18 !!! I cried in the store like a baby... LOL . And my tops are an X-L in misses now, instead of 1x or 2x in plus sizes. I've come a long way from wearing 28 pants and 24 tops ! My 2 year bandiversary is in October. I'm hoping to be able to stay in Onderland so I have even MORE to celebrate ! I've missed you all SO much! It seems like alot has been happening... I;ve been keeping up a bit, but no where near as much as I should. I plan to be a "regular" regular again :-) Well, it's 5:15, and i need to head to work. i'm working 6am - 2:30 pm, then working 3 - 6 on mondays and 3-7 on thursdays at Gordman's. ... I'll be checking in again this evening. It feels so great to be back !!!!!:tt2::crying::thumbup::w00t::confused::wink2::scared2::tt1:
