    Sleeping on your side?

I was about two weeks out before I could sleep on my side. I had to prop my head/uperbody up and a pillow under my knees to be able to sleep on my back.
  2. my doc gave me a list, first 3 days after surgery = liquid diet days 4-7 full liquid days 8-10 = puree days 11-14 minced week 3 soft week 4 bariatric regular not a whole lot to choose from on the list, everything is fat free, sugar free, and you got the Protein first cottage cheese, mashed pototes, pureed meats, pureed veggies, sf yogurts, cream of wheat, oatmeal, then on week 4 you can pretty much eat anything just cut into tiny pieces, some things like raw veggies, tough fruit and hot peppers are to be avoided for like 6 months hope that helps good luck
  3. I'm 6 weeks post op and now allowed to try new foods. If I try something that doesn't bother me at the time, can it cause nausea the next day? I thought if it doesn't make you sick right away you should be able to tolerate. Im nauseated today after eating chicken Caesar salad yesterday for lunch. Any ideas?

    Massive Migraine After Hard Wourkout

Hello everyone! I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced a migraine headache after a tough work out? I've noticed the last two weeks have been tough on me. It started after I began taking harder classes like Boot camp, Body pump and Step. I've made sure I had enough Protein before the gym and I do well with my Water but I can always up the amount. Other than that I'm not sure what else I can do other than dropping the amount of classes I take a week but I really don't want to do that. I've always been prone to migraines but this is just getting ridiculous!! Any suggestions? Any advise would help. Thanks
  5. By 2 months nearly everyone has hit a stall. They are really rough to go through but it will pass. Hang in there. You also might want to increase your protein a bit.

    Pre op and nervous

Honestly, I've had a root canal that was more painful , and took me longer to bounce back ! And it was an easy root canal ! I was home 5 hrs after checking into the hospital for lap band . First 2 days I rested and walked and took my pain meds, 3rd day I did'nt even need them anymore, walked very slowly around the house. Went back to work 1 week after surgery. Easy. Listen to your Dr.s orders, you'll be fine. Good luck! !!

    Pre op and nervous

I am 2.5 weeks out (pre op) and it's starting to get very real, real quick! Success will be ours as long as we follow the food plans, exercise both our bodies and our minds and always remember what it was like for us before we fought so hard for the gift we have been blessed with ..... this tool to begin anew and have a future of healthy living! Good luck to you!
  8. I hope everyone doesn't hate me, but I''m on day 9 of clears since my surgery and I can't believe it has gone by so fast. I will start full liquids tomorrow. I will be glad to have a little more substance, but I have felt fine. The only time I was nauseated was when I went shopping with my daughter. I think some people on the forum who feel bad do not get enough protein during the clear stage. I have been getting 60-80 grams of protein daily by mixing GNC Whey Protein chocolate flavor in water. I mix one & 1/2 scoops instead of one for a little richer taste, but it tastes pretty darn good when it your only source of protein. I feel for those who are having a difficult time getting through the first few weeks. It is just like when I dieted in the past and the people around me were eating all my favorites while I was depriving myself. Just think ahead to the time when we can have almost anything we want because we can only have a limited amount. We will survive!!!!

    8 months later....

It is time to refocus! I am happy to have lost 52.6 pounds, I am happy to not have gained anything back, but I am not happy that I have become complacent. I have not lost a pound in months and I know I am not working my band properly. It is a wonder I have not gained anything back. I have let my busy, hectic life get in the way and I have lost control. I know that chips, ice cream, and those dreadful york peppermint patties go down easily and have no place in my diet. Especially when I may eat them in lieu of a healthy, balanced meal. This is something that has been nagging me for weeks and I am doing that before bed mental crap that I used to do back when I was 270+ pounds. Just as I am falling asleep I get that feeling of dread that I am still obese. I am ready to get this weight loss rolling again or in the very least start feeling like I ma working it properly and being more healthy. I have opted to try to incorporate South Beach principles into my diet because I truly believe this is a healthy way to live. I am doing Phase 1 as of yesterday to try to detox me from all the crap I was eating. I swear that helps with the craving and I hope it helps again.... Yesterday's Meal Plan B: 1 quiche cup 1 turkey sausage *I cooked 2 sausages and quiche cups but was full after 1. L: low sodium V8 3 slices ham rolled with cheese mustard coffee with 1/2&1/2 D: romaine lettuce (about 1 cup) 3oz chicken parmesan cheese light caeser dressing dessert: SF jello with cool whip snack later 2 Polly-O string cheese I figured out the calories to be 932 with 52grams fat and 82 grams protein. Per fitday. I also managed to drink more water than I have in months. I would estimate that I had 10 glasses! That was why I didn't really snack until later...no time with all that drinking and waiting after meals. I really wasn't ever hungry today though either. Yesterday was my busy day though so we will see how I do when I have more down time.

South Beach Phase 1 Day 4

Are you ready for crazy???? Well, first off, I feel much better today than I did yesterday. When I woke up this morning, the room wasn't spinning which is a relief! I weighed myself this morning. Monday (Day 1) I weighed 221 on the scale. Today the scale reads 214.5. WTF? Is that even possible? Is it going to stay??? I have gone 4 months or so battling the same 3 pounds up and down between 218 and 221...now in 4 days of proper eating, lean protein & veggies, LF dairy. At any rate, it seems crazy!

  12. Progress!!! I have my psych evaluation scheduled for April 7th. That will be the beginning of that 6 months. So, if all goes well with that, surgery will be sometime after the first week of October. Countdown is underway!
  13. Hello, My name is JJ. This week I have taken the first step in getting my health together. My insurance covers weight loss surgery after 6 months of supervised dieting. Today I saw my GP and she is completely supportive of this journey, and was genuinely honest about it being a tool, not a cure all. I appreciate the honesty. I have chosen a Dr. and will attend his seminar in a few days. At that point I will fill out the paperwork and go from there. About a year ago I had a major surgery that improved my health by 75%. Since then I realize how great I can feel, and the immense pleasure of being a part of life without pain. My BMI is 41. I am 5'1" and 219lbs @ 39 yrs of age. I have thyroid disease (hypo), high triglycerides, mild sleep apnea, depression (after losing a child) and am pre-diabetic. Around 10 years ago all self-esteem issues vanished for me after the birth of our child. I finally started living life as much as possible, only being held back by pain. I buy clothes that fit, and look nice, and never agonize about what I am wearing or how it fits. I take care to look up to date, and presentable for me. I like looking nice and feeling good. My husband is FABULOUS. When we met I was around 150 and as I grew through the years his devotion and commitment to me grew even deeper. He's not a chubby chaser, but loves me and respects me. He looks like a male model still, and I have grown obese. I know I have a good, good man. My goal is to feel as great as I can, be 100% a part of life, and come off of all my meds. I am ready for this change. Thank you to everyone that is so forthcoming on this site. Just what I have read in the last few days has helped with questions and curiousness!
  14. I am so excited!!! I am having this done. I am paying for this out of pocket due to my cheap ass company I work for.:sneaky: They want to give you the run around and if you are overweight they should be gladly to help you with that. I will be broke but looking good is ust fine with me. I look around here at work and see so many obese people and I need this is something my company should cover. They took this option off 3 years ago when people started getting it done. What a joke? I am glad to have found this site and I will post pictures me. So everyone will see the transformation. I am so proud of each and everyone of you all. Keep up the good work. YNFF(your new found friend), Pdburch
  15. Hi I am 15 days out and walking around the neighborhood and doing quite a bit of mall walking. But I am wanting to get back into the gym. I see my Dr on Thursday so I will ask too. But I am curious when did you go back to the gym? I just want to walk on the treadmill, elliptical and bike. No weights for 6 weeks I was told. I want to work my way back up to running again and figure out the whole hydration thing while sipping and running. I think it might be hard. I am down 32 lbs but I want to get the ball rolling even faster and hope going back to the gym will help. Thanks, Michelle
  16. This is my first post on this site. I was banded in June; I have lost 50 pounds so far. I work out quite a bit. I find the weight just doesn't come off for me unless I am at the gym 3 or more times a week. I do one hour classes; I average about 4 days there per week. For me, classes are ideal because I don't like to work out. The classes are always different and I won't leave or quit in the middle if I get tired. If I'm on a treadmill, I tend to not push myself very hard. At first, I found myself modifying quite a bit of what the instructor was doing, but now I can keep up pretty well. I have a skinny friend with a heartrate monitor thingy and she burns around 600 calories per class. I figure I'm probably doing close to the same...I'm bigger so I burn more than she does, but I'm also not quite able to do as much of the high impact stuff she does yet...
  17. Well, I'm still a work in progress, but I can tell you that I lost the first 35 pounds with very little exercise. I thought this was going to be a cakewalk! Then... well... it all came crashing to a stop. So I started riding my bike moderately but the weight loss was a slow crawl... Then I joined a gym and started doing Spin classes. Whoa! That's when I found out what intense exercise means... I thought I was going to die for the first 3 classes. Then it started getting easier and I had to push myself harder with more resistance. And now I do 5-7 spin classes a week, combined with a small amount of strength training. I went for my 5th fill last week and had gone from a standstill to losing 17 pounds... My fitness level is getting better every week and my heart rate recovery time is falling consistently. I'm with Jachut on this... You have to challenge yourself. If you walk 2 miles along the same path all the time - your body will become efficient at doing it and you'll no longer get the same result. The harder you work - the higher the result - plain and simple. Brad
  18. I had to exercise 6 days a week. I have a very slow metabolism and if I didn't exercise, there is no way I would have lost or kept losing. I did the stair master, walking/jogging on the treadmill, and the eliptical machine anywhere between 30-60 min per day, as well as weight training. Building muscle will make our bodies burn more calories even at rest.
  19. I'm almost 8 months out and I started exercises at 4 weeks I started crunches at 6 weeks out it only did 20 Cardio is a must but I also do weight training Good luck with your journey Sent from my iPad using RNYTalk
  20. If you're on IV fluids you won't get dehydrated. Do what the nurses tell you to do. Your stomach has been cut and sutured/stapled, of course there's going to be some blood. It looks like more when mixed with saliva and water. When you get home, follow the food progression exactly. Scar tissue needs to form around the sutures and or staples in your stomach to strengthen and heal. If you overdo it in the first few weeks and put pressure on the suture line, the scar tissue fibers can break down. Congrats on your revision!!!!

    13 Days til Banding!!!

Today is day 3 of pre-op. I stayed within my calories yesterday, but overdid it on carbs!! I thought all the dinners in my freezer were less than 20 grams carbs; I cooked one then looked at the carbs: 43!! oh no, should have pitched it but I went ahead and ate it. Then had blueberries for snack, and they are higher carb too. Some friends came over and brought a watermelon, I went ahead and ate some because I didn't want to have to explain. She asked twice what kind of diet I was on and I said predominantly liquid, she wanted to know what kind, blah blah, so I finally went ahead and told them I was going to have lapband surgery in two weeks. (Wasn't planning to tell very many people, but I'm not good at making up stories as I go along) Anyway, I was surprised, she said it would be good for my health; I about fell over in surprise. Another protein review: 1) Whey Gourmet Creamy Orangesicle Swirl - just 'ok'. Too sweet tasting for me. I mixed it with ice and water; maybe should have used a little more water. I wouldn't buy it but others would probably like it. (It came in my Bariatric Eating sample pak. My goal for the rest of the diet: STICK TO IT!! Don't overdo the carbs. I am feeling full; however, the day I had my regular meal at lunchtime, I was hungrier in the evening, so think I will stick to having the regular meal in the evening since I feel fuller longer.

    Approved Today

After bugging BCBS of IL and TeamCare, I was approved. My dr's office submitted everything last week on 4/3/18 and I was approved today! I am so overjoyed. Cannot wait to talk to my Dr's office and get this surgery scheduled. My son graduates from college on 5/12 so I'm going to wait until after his graduation to have it done. I cannot wait. I'm so thrilled! Literally feels like there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Nothing tastes as good as thin feels

Hey bandster family, Time for my morning rant session. Like I said last week , I had a fill on Thursday (it's going pretty well). This band is definetly a tool, as you can tell by reading some of the success stories, some of us get the hang of it alot sooner than others. I've realized that some of the things I could eat last week with ease, don't work now that I've had this last fill. I had to learn the hard way that chicken (no matter how it's cooked) is not my friend. I had 1 drumstick from el pollo loco yesterday (1 lousy drumstick), didn't even eat the whole thing, and it was a wrap. Chest started getting tight...... and well yall know the rest. It's crazy, I've been pretty good about staying away from chicken, but for some reason, yesterday I just had to have it. So, I went to the grocery store last night, and stocked up on some of the old faithfuls, like shrimp, fish and tuna, and yes I did buy some chicken (can you say gluten for punishment), I plan on making chicken salad by boiling the chicken then putting it in the food processor (that's the only way it goes down and stays .. Well until later my bandster family, (hope this helps someone along their journey)

    Working out?

I was told to walk as much as I was able from day 1, but other more strenuous exercise should wait till my 3 month check up. But I had a hernia repair at the same time as the bypass, so this may be specific to me. I'm thinking about starting a dance exercise dvd soon though as it's just a bit more energetic than walking.
