    Port Huron Lap Banders??

I was discharged as soon as the doc saw that all my vitals were normal and I wasn't complaining of any pain. I could have gone home sooner, but was waiting for the doc to see me. Apparently he doesn't do that. He just checks the nurse's stats and then says yes or no on going home. I had no pain and was ready to leave by 9, but didn't ask to go until 10 cause I was waitin' on the doc. .grrrrrrr I'm sitting here eating my creamy soup for the first time and it's heaven!! Going to have a lo fat pudding and some applesauce next. Things are getting back to semi-normal, thank goodness! Though I really can't complain. I haven't been staving hungry since the surgery. Head hunger a few times, but no physical hunger at all.

    Port Huron Lap Banders??

I wish I could say I was going to Port Huron, they are among the most experienced in the state (them and Dr. Deol). Sadly my insurance does not pay for me to go there, and Dr, Deol charges $800 for a mandatory support group fee that is not covered by insurance. I wish you all luck, I think it's wonderful you are getting banded at PHH! I researched them quite a bit and everything I found out was very positive. I would double check with your insurance company about EXACTLY what there requirements are for the 12 month diet. My company requires not only 12 months PHYSICIAN supervised weight loss, but I MUST attend 80% or my visits in that 12 months, which means *10* visits in 12 months, with weights and discussion of diet/exercise at *each* visit. Your insurance company should have a complex case manager who is very familiar with this stuff. Mine is wonderful. Best wishes!!!

  7. You know what I noticed? When I weighed 247 no one said anything about my weight. Now everyone has a freakin' opinion. I didn't get a sleeve to be sexy, or to flaunt everything I have. I did it to be healthy and to be around for my son. So, now that I'm almost 70 pounds lighter everyone feels the need to comment on it. I used to be invisible and really it had it's perks. Now, everyone notices me and feels the need to tell me what they think. Today, we had an event at work and I wore a dress. One of the teachers said to me, "You look 10 times better now than you did last year." I'm still trying to figure out WTF she meant by that. Why do people have to give you back handed compliments? My boss told me, "I'm glad you decided to get active because you really needed to do something about it before." Really? At my highest weight I still did my job like a pro. My weight has NEVER effected my job performance. Friends are telling me that I should dress sexier so everyone can see how sexy I am now. I was sexy when I was 247! Someone else at work told me that I need to slow down because I'm losing too much weight and my girl won't like it if I lose my shape. That I should just lift weights and stop doing so much cardio because I'm getting too skinny. Excuse me why are you all in my relationship? How do you know what she'll like? Oh, the one that took the cake was the woman that said that I shouldn't have had the surgery because now I can't eat anything - I should have researched more and picked something different that would allow me to eat more. Right now I'm not really comfortable with how I look. I see everything that I still need to fix and I don't recognize myself sometimes when I look in the mirror. I'm trying to figure out who this version of me is. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how fast my body is changing. I really don't need everyone's opinions. I'm sure people mean well, but I feel vulnerable as it is. At first it was you look great which was embarassing enough (I don't like a lot of attention), now the comments are getting a little too personal. I don't need the Peanut Gallery's 2 cents!

    2 Weeks Post-Op and Struggling

Hang in there - it gets better!!!! I'm just about 10 months out and at this point I can pretty much eat anything that I want in terms of types of food - I just eat a lot less of what ever it is. I don't micromanage what I eat - I keep a few simple rules in place and enjoy my meals -- I always start with my protein first, then my vegetables and leave the carbs for last - if I even get to them or want them by that time. This is not to say that I've not had a slice of pizza or a piece of cake since surgery, - but they are the exception not the rule - if you're going to have something like that look at it as a treat not one of your go to foods.

I do Low Carb/High Protein for 10 days (but I started already) and then water only the day before the surgery.

    "Last Supper Syndrome"

I had lost 35 lbs previously on phentermine while doing the lap band process via my surgeon, and I can tell I have probably put 10 of those pounds back on. I did buy new running shoes today (not that they will see the pavement going that fast!) more like walking. I had a talk with them and told them to make sure I am consistent with the walking exercise! My sister called today and is giving me her old treadmill!!! I am just going to have to buckle down and quit thinking about what I won't be able to have once I am banded but what new things I will be able to do once the surgery is over! I have to talk to my self once in a while! LOL:rolleyes:

    February Sleevers

Did you get in for February? Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App Are you still set for February 13th? I'm on my liquid diet. What about you? Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App Did you ever schedule your surgery? Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App Yes, Feb 7...but I had to switch from a local surgeon to MX after the costs started to add up. I know I'll be in excellent hands with Dr. Illan. I've had 3 co-workers go with him and rave. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App Ok great. That's my bday. In a week later. How is your liquid diet going? Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App Happy birthday! So far the diet hasn't been bad. I had a mild headache days 2 and 3. I am not sure I am doing it correctly. I am allowed pureed Soups on mine, so I have a shake in the AM and then pureed broth based Soup for lunch and dinner. Snacks are sugar free Jello. My calories are about 500/day and I've lost 16lbs in 10 days, but I got the ketosis straps and I'm not really in ketosis. Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App

What is most important to weight loss?

Yes I did, on the 9th. I've been doing great so far. I lost 23 pounds on the pre-op diet (3 weeks) and I've lost 9 since surgery (2 weeks ago today) but the scale is holding steady at the moment. I just started purees and am doing fine. Surgery itself was a non-event for me. Got wheeled into a room where they gave me some medication through the IV -- that's all I remember before waking up in my room. Had no gas pains or nausea post-op, and until recently I was walking 10-20,000 steps a day (I now have a cold, possibly (mild) pneumonia, so I don't want to spend too much time outside where it's pretty cold).

My first fill, did your's happen the same way?

I had my first fill June 24 with 2 cc placed in a 10 cc band. My fill was exactly the same, sitting up with a huge needle sticking out of my stomach. Freakin' weird! There was absolutely no pain at all (and I have a very low tolerance for pain). My doctor said to come back in a month if I haven't lost 6 pounds in that time. I'm calling tomorrow for that appointment already and see if I can get in sooner! I can still eat like a lumberjack! I felt the water restriction during my fill in the office but not so much after. I know it may take a few more fills to get it right but I've had no weight loss since surgery. Sadly I've actually gained a few. I won't give up. My time will get here....just wish it was sooner than later!
  18. I'm tall and big (and a guy) at 6'3". I was 367 pre-op (12/19/12) and I'm now 213 at about 6 1/2 months post op (lost 154 lbs). I've very closely followed the program I was given and exercised a lot. I need to lose at least 14 more lbs to get my BMI in the normal range. I don't know if I can or if I'll ever make it to 199. My doctor originally told me he could get me to 175-180. Now he tells me that's probably too low for me... I just know that my big worry is maintaining...

    Sitting on the fence

Actually, the band has been the 'gold' standard in the UK for some time now. I believe the procedure has been being done for at least 10 years or more.
  20. Heck.....it's better today! End of March and 10 inches of snow just south of us by 20 miles! God, I love Wisconsin winters!

    Feeling out of sorts

Long story short no, I did not go through with the surgery at that time. I started feeling apprehensive about my new surgeon and decided to try to drop some weight on my own. After about six months of that and not getting the results I wanted (lack of motivation on my part) I returned to my surgeon to reschedule the surgery. However, thanks to my 9 year old requiring an explanation of what will be happening to her dad and in an attempt to calm her about the associated risks didn't out weigh the gains I found a different procedure I wanted to check out called Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. It is a procedure that done through the mouth that sutures the stomach into a sleeve shape providing the same benefit of the gastric sleeve without the hospital stay. After researching it, I found that it is a relatively new procedure that does not have the statics to go by like the gastric sleeve. I was lucky enough to find two doctors in the Houston area that could perform the procedure along with providing more insight into exactly what it was. I had my consult with one of the physicians who explained to me that while the procedure is effective he didn't think it would provide me with the results that I hoped for and recommended that I stick with the gastric sleeve procedure that I had scheduled but put off for this consultation. I learned two important things in that meeting 1) my hesitation was partly due to my apprehension about my initial surgeon (who did not go over a lot and did not make me feel comfortable) 2) I would be scheduling my surgery but with this new doctor who not only made my wife and I feel comfortable but was willing to explain every detail to me and calmed my fears. With all that said, I finally had the surgery on September 23, 2019 and will be celebrating 1 month of my new life this week. Which I can honestly at the moment SUCKS but I know it will get better.
  22. I was 9 months maybe 10 without a cycle... until the following day I came home from surgery. I had a full blown period, pretty bad too. Clotting was intense. I also have pcos, I'm like you in hopes this straightens things out! Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
  23. While In the hospital the PT told me no treadmills, no walking in 32 F and under. Well, it's December in NH and it gets pretty darn cold lol So I'm stuck? I need to walk, but no where to walk. I tried waking inside the house, nope, I can't my 2 and 3 yr old want to follow me all over . Which I normally wouldn't care, but not when I'm trying to walk for 10 mi. YA know? I need to get out and walk! I feel cabin fever setting in lol
  24. I was self-pay in NJ. Total was $14,500 including 3 months of aftercare/fills and one night in the hospital. I went to Mehta Bariatric Center in New Brunswick. I live in south jersey and it only takes me an hour and 10 minutes to get to his office.

    A spiritual friends thoughts

For 10 years + I have prayed, asked, begged God to give me strength to be able to lose weght and keep it off. For some reason or another it didn't happen. When I found and was given this tool I felt completely blessed and protected by HIM, and I knew, once I had the operation done, that He granted this gift to me. Now the rest is up to me
