  1. Welcome sibling! We are just 2 days apart. I wonder if the liquid diet..and number of days is related in any way to a person's BMI or ??? Within the specific 'Sleeve' and 'Bypass' surgery forums I think there are topics for 'July 2019 surgeries'...but as the gastric sleeve one is not super active yet, I had thought...why not start one for all July people regardless of which surgery they are having as we surely share the same anxiety, hope, nervousness, fear, etc. Guess we'll see if anyone else joins in here, if not, we know about each other now...lol

    Overtraining & Stalls???? Frustrated.....

I think your calories are way too low for the way you are working out. I am over a year out, exercise 5 days a week, and I am eating 1500-1700 calories a day. Since getting back to my regular exercise schedule with burning an average of 400 calories per workout, I am back to losing 2 pounds a week. I am 3 pounds from my personal goal, but I think I may try and lose about 10 more to give myself a few bounce back pounds in the future, so I may have to actually increase my calories eventually.

    March Bypass Buddies

6 months ahead of you, doing the same at 200n yesterday I thought I did perfect but just above, today may I be back just below! Wearing my 1st Junior-sized leggings- a 19 but fits So NICE, please GOD----- I have come so far, let this be neither a stall nor stoppage. I have come so far to come so far! Let me show O.S.U.-😷--what really somebody my age can still do! 😛❤😛💔
  4. I think this article both makes and misses a couple of great points. What it gets right: 1. Muscle mass does not increase RMR as much as people believe it does. 2. It is not easy to add significant amounts of lean mass - especially in a calorie deficit - especially with age - especially with other comorbidities. What it get's wrong: 1. The goal for us post-op should be to reduce muscle loss as much as possible. It is far easier to keep what was already there supporting our greater pre-op weight than it is to lose the lean mass and then try and get it back. 2. The contribution of muscle mass to RMR does not have to be that large to be beneficial. Rough numbers of course but assuming 3500 calories in 1lb of adipose tissue and a 50lb weight gain over 5 years is a 175,000 calorie excess over 1825 days or an average daily excess of just 100 calories. Could preserving 20lbs muscle during during a 100lbs weight loss be beneficial? Using the article's 6 calories per pound of muscle per day that equals an additional 120 calories per day. 3. The best way to maintain muscle mass is lifting weights. The benefit is not only during the actual exercise but also in the post-exercise period where metabolic rate and protein synthesis remain elevated. This along with HIIT gives you 'twofer" as far as calories burned and also maintains muscles mass. I know people's abilities here vary greatly but resistance training has been shown be beneficial across the board for those who can tolerate it. The fact is many of us gained weight over a sufficiently long period of time that while in a calories excess (and yes I know there are compensatory changes to metabolism both in a calorie excess and deficit but let's keep it simple) that actual excess was not huge. Just 100 calories per day over 10 years will give a 100lbs gain. So my point...I think maintaining muscle mass during weight loss is absolutely important to longterm weight loss and maintenance...evenif the contribution to RMR is not as high as what that charlatan Dr. Oz claims.

    March Bypass Buddies

Hi all just checking in. It has been 99 days since the surgery. I am down 41 pounds at 160 lbs. I now weigh what I weighed 10 months after my second baby. Another 30 and I will hit my goal. I have not lost during the past week. I hope this stall will go away. I hope my March buddies are feeling good and healthy. Keep up the good work!
  6. slowdown almost always happens after the first month. I dropped down to about 10 lbs a month (give or take a couple of pounds) during months 2-6. After about month 6, my weight loss dropped even further. The more you lose, the slower it goes, because the less you weigh, the fewer calories your body needs. if you're following your plan and weighing/measuring your food, you won't stretch your stomach.
  7. I will be having gastric bypass on July 3. I started my program in Feb 2019, but have battled weight issues my whole life. I am excited and anxious about my upcoming date. I cannot imagine weighing less than I do now. At 42 years old, I've been morbidly obese my entire adult life and obese my entire life. So many thoughts run through my head about this surgery, but I tell myself to take it one baby step at a time. My program only requires 2 days liquid diet, so I don't even start that til July 1. Would love to keep in contact with you and our other July siblings [emoji16] Good luck to all of us! Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. I’m scheduled to undergo surgery today at 10:30. Eek! I’ve been unwisely trolling these boards and now am full of a mix of relief and fear. At the moment the fear is winning out: what if I develop blood clots, what if something goes terribly wrong, blah blah. Sigh. I’m going to try to meditate and let it go. But...well...eek!

    Five day follow up

Your worries and fears are all normal, I have has extreme dumping in my first month, and every once in a while now, (3 months post op) I remember the day I had an actual mostly solid BM! About 3-4 weeks post op? My family and I actually celebrated even though people talk about poop like it’s TMI! I tried to keep taking sips of water every 10 mins, and all I could stomach was chicken broth for the first 10 days. Jello and popsicles (sugar free) helped a lot. Also, about 2 weeks after my surgery I began to have a fever every day from about 2 pm to 8pm sometimes longer. I had one infected site (robotics) and when I did get the antibiotics, they stopped all digestion. But I made it through. You may have some worries and fears, but that’s normal. And as long as you just do your best to follow the diet guidelines, you WILL lose weight! Cheers!
  10. had gastric bypass DS loop and my gallbladder removed on March 11th 2019. Since then I have gone from 297.7 down to 242. Total of 55.7 lbs. in 3 months and 13 days. But I’m the last 39 days I have only lost 10 lbs. is this a plateau? Is this still good since I have not gained any weight back? I’m feeling better in the last 2 weeks FINALLY.... I had surgery complications and medication changes and problems that caused extra pain and some minor depression, so recovery took longer than “usual” patients. I think? I don’t know how long other people take to get out and about, start regularly exercising (just walking and some 2 pound weights) But the slow down in weight loss worries me. Also, I have a HUGE fear of stretching my stomach back out. Every time I eat I get scared my stomach is stretching at the staples. I would love some feedback of your experiences, ideas, your suggestions, possibly re-assurance that I’m doing ok?? Also, I love to eat fruit, and I try to limit myself to 2 a day, but I worry about sugars... what do you all do? Thanks! Claire

    Gallbladder i

Did any of you have Gall Bladder issues prior to wls? I have had 2 really bad bouts and several not so bad bouts of Gall Bladder "attacks". I am preop (10/1/19) and after reading some info online, I decided to let the doctor rip it out on 5/9/19. The article I read stated it was better to have it out prior to wls. But, then again....you can find exactly what "you" want to read or hear on the internet.

    NSV's Spring 2019 Edition

Well I am a happier camper tonight. TODAY I bought my first pair of Junior-sized Capri leggings. Okay, they are a 19 but in the NSV world we live in thats a Big ✌ Victory. Did not have to jump up and down to get into, didn't have to lie down on a bed to pull up or zipper them. Don't laugh ,my peeps, but they slid right on smoothly. Just enough snugness that it was like shapewear and smoothed my blobby globby thighs into smoothness, and if I say so, I look pretty good. Now I want another pair, these are red like a bandana, maybe a navy blue or grey Heather? Less than $4 in price, so wouldn't strain my budget to buy another. And back when I was a 28-30 W I would never believe I could achieve this before my 1st year was up. Don't know if I'm brave enough to wear them out in public, even though I have seen people who must have been dressed by someone who hated them severely. But even if I am at the upper edge, I once again am a Junior-sized person. Yippee Yahoo!

    Surgery Date???

Got approve for surgery in early June 2019 but my surgeon only had opening end of July and early August. I picked Aug 6. I was not in a rush and it gives me time to fill out my FMLA form for work. Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Grilled cheese alternative?

Be careful with the zero carb bread. I’m 10 months out and tried it about 3 months ago. I felt like a balloon was expanding in my stomach for 4 hours. It was awful! I’ve had good luck with Flatout Wraps. The chipotle flavored one is smaller and just like 60 calories I think. Or I do half an original one.

Let's Get The Duodenal Switch People Together

Hi All!!! Glad to see this thread resurrected. I’ll be 10 years in December. Let me say I LLOOOVVVEEEE my DS. 384 day of, body clinging to 172 and holding.
  18. Oh wow, great to hear from you! Ironically...we are at the same point but I noticed today I was foggier than I expected (although yesterday I was LESS foggy than expected..LOL). I have had a bad headache all day today. I did not give up caffeine until..well, I guess since I had 1/2 cup this morning I haven't given it up yet. I'm used to 4 to 5 cups a day though...so that probably has something to do with the headache. I noticed my dr's list is different than the nutritionist he sent me too. They both had soft foods @ first start of the 7-10 days, but since I didn't start until 'Day 8.5', I went ahead and started full liquid diet today (regarding Day 8.5 - on the way out of my doc's office last week, I teased him about being grumpy about 10 days and he said "7"...um...ok, maybe he was kidding? When I realized I should clarify, it was already the weekend so I'm taking a day of soft foods out. I've noticed some interesting variations - there are a few ppl I've seen on here doing a full FOUR WEEKS PRE-OP....I just shudder..LOL. Guess it was good that I already had given up sugar/carbs/etc as I was doing keto. I did something similar last week - one night I went out for Mexican and one lunch at a Chinese place. But it was just 1 meal each day...not the entire days. I did have a drink '11 days' prior but I have not had any alcohol since the 10 days started even though I didn't do the pre-op diet until day 8.5 (that sounds so weird!). I feel the same..nervous..anxious..and right now...a bit hungry..lol. Best of luck to you as well! Stay in touch. I know we have lots of other early July peeps out there!

Anyone in the Tacoma WA area?

@starladustangel I had my surgery with Dr. Anwar on 6/19. How are you doing since your surgery?
  20. I'm going in on July 1st too!! One week from today!! I'm 3 days into my required 10 day liquid diet; feeling a little bit in a "fog", but not as hungry or cranky as I expected to be. I had a couple "food funerals", but didn't go overboard with quantities when I did. I gave up caffeine, alcohol, and carbonation just a couple weeks ago, and have been cutting back on sugar but didn't fully cut it until I started the pre-surgery diet. Good luck to you! I'm feeling very nervous and hopeful too.

    Lap band revision

I was banded in 2005, had it removed July 2018, and sleeved June 2019. My band was slipped and I didn't know it. But I also didn't care. I had gained all my weight back and was eating with no difficulties. I could eat 6 pieces of pizza with no troubles. (MAN I miss pizza). So far so good. I'm only one week out with the sleeve though.

    4 days post-op

@Knix200129 and @sm98444 Congrats ! I had my surgery just days before you both on June 17th. Today I am exactly one week out and have lost a total of 10 lbs from my surgery date, 25 since my initial pre-op appointment May 27 - Almost one month ago. I want to let you know what you're feeling is totally normal. Like Knix, I did not need pain pills and by 5 days later I felt superb. However, I had the hunger pangs. What I would do is take a muscle/spasm pill that they prescribed to me. It definitely stopped the hunger. Also, I gave up smoking! Maybe that's why I'm so angry the past few days, but I don't really have the urge to pick one up yet. Well, I mean I have the urge but it isn't THAT bad that I'm feening for it. Like SM, I am also a side/tummy sleeper. For the first 5 days I measured how well I was healing with how well I could sleep. Being forced to sleep on my back was horrible so I slept maybe 2 or 3 hours at a time for the first 2 days. At one point I was up at 3:30 AM e-mailing my doctor about why can't I sleep?! Finally by Friday night I slept 8 consecutive hours and was able to lay on my left side. Last night I was able to really get comfortable though! My one week appointment was virtual - Actually both my 1 week and 1 month are virtual. I don't have to go back and physically see my team. Crazy, right? Anyway, today I was allowed to begin my puree stage. It's not as bad as it sounds. My dietitian said I could puree Wendy's chili (wow?!) so I'm thinking I may end up living on that, tuna, and chicken salad for the next 3 weeks. I'm supposed to be getting in 80g of protein per day. She said to focus on getting in the protein, not to worry about calories or carbs. And today I've had maybe 50g of protein. I'm actually "late" to eat because I wanted to respond for yas! I'm struggling getting in my water, not because it's difficult but because I need to make myself drink. I'm not thirsty and I'm not hungry so why should I eat? So it's like... Set an alarm and just do it. That'll be my plan for tomorrow. Welcome to the club!

Is there anything you wish you knew before surgery?

I wish I had known that having weight-loss surgery did not guarantee weight loss. I went through a massive stall and it only changed when I started working out at the gym. People think that you won’t be hungry and that definitely wasn’t the case for me. I have been hungry right from the start. I wasn’t expecting to be able to eat everything and have nothing make me sick so I still have to use a lot of willpower. The main thing I wish that I had known though is that it would all be ok and I should have done it 10 years ago
