  1. I crave greek yogurt, apples, bananas and peanut butter. The weird thing is I hated pb before surgery.
  2. They gave me yogurt and broth In the hospital... I couldn't "eat" it but they gave it to me..,
  3. I am 9 weeks out and was doing ok until the last week. The thought of eating eggs will make me sick to my stomach and I have been nauseated the better part of last week. I feel like I am regressing a little. Today, I had a yogurt, 3 bites of fish and for dinner 2 oz of pork roast and a few cubes of potato. Liquids are a struggle as well. I am going to have a protein drink to try and get hydrated and some protein in. Anyone else experiencing this.....I have NO APPETITE at all.

    Low Carb Banders Unite

Rugman, thank you for taking the time to post for me. I admit, I know better, I know mostly what works and what doesn't; it's pretty basic overall. But, as I said before, just when I think I have a grasp... bam! 80-120g carbs in one day. I can't seem to break it. I thought did OK over the holiday weekend, especially on a mini vacation... but really, it just OK. What did me in was not so much the food, but the Sangria by the pool. Ugh, as often as I tell people, "If you know it's bad, don't do it," I was doing the same damn thing. THUR, 73 carbs: Hopped off the plane and went out to Chili's with my friends in Phoenix. Had the Guiltless Grill Salmon (about a quarter of the actual fish portion) plus half of the steamed broccoli with a touch of parmesan and half the black Beans. FRI, 152 carbs: Seared tuna and squid for lunch, no sauces. Veal and prosciutto wraps with spinach and mozzerella and a touch of marsala sauce. Roasted veggies. KILLER - Sangria and mixed fruit dipped in Cool Whip, being fed by whomever was holding the bowl. LOL Fun, but a low-carb assassin. SAT, 83 carbs: Dannon 0%plus yogurt. dinner out to Olive Garden and half an order of the Apricot chicken. Even the name is carb-heavy. TDP shows 0 carbs, but I know that's not right; there has to be something from the apricot sauce, even if I ate very little of it. Oh, and more Sangria as we talked into the night. SUN, 72 carbs: Much better, or so I thought. Dannon 0%plus yogurt for B and L. Dinner was baked chicken with a canned Pasta sauce and spinach salad and lowfat, low sugar dressing. Maybe you don't want or need to see all that, but I use that and go back to compare, thinking I am usually so good, and then see that I am averaging 85 carbs a day for the past 30 days. Ugh! Frustrating. So, I have printed an Induction Phase list from Atkins.com and intend to use that when I go shopping tonight. I know that the yogurt is a lot and that I will have to find something else. I am also a big fan of fresh fruit. What do people do instead? The alcohol is a problem for carbs, yes, but not to cut out; that's easy because I don't regularly have it. I am really concerned about Calcium, D, and K; I don't metabolize most supplements very well and I do not like milk. Hence, my yogurt fascination. I would appreciate ideas there. Another somewhat difficult part for me is that I am also a low saturated fat person; I don't eat much cheese, bacon, beef, etc. and instead focus on fish, chicken, and some leaner game when the mood strikes. Maybe this should have been a PM. Sorry for the length. I want to do this, and I appreciate your input. Thanks, again, all of you.

Hey All! I haven't had the time to post much but have been sticking to my low carb ways. I have been making a lot of recipes that are getting me through. Any January 2010 Bandsters????

I am 36 yrs old and i was banded Jan7th. the experience hasnt been all that bad, but i guess in all the research I did before hand I fell short in asking the righ questions. I havent been in alot of pain, except gas and around he port, which brings my first question about acceptable methods of pain relief ie.ice pack, heating pad, when to switch from heavy pain meds (pERCOCET) to something not as strong. i also did not ask how much liquid I should intake or what to do about gas(I see now people say ex strength gaas x,but i took baby Mylicon) The gas was in my chest and seemed to last forever, even after I took Milk of Magnesia(was recommened for bowel movement). The second day I think I drank to much fliud because I was full and feeling bloated most of the day(not a good feeling).I also found the it was not good to start off with sweet things (CIB,yogurt)because it makes my stomach turn, sos Im bascically still doing, warm tea, warm water, milk, juice. It feels like Im healing(not as much much pulling, site itching)and aside from the back pain(from sleep on my back, too much pulling laying on my side) I guess Im coming along ok.It also pays to have a great support system.....
  9. Hope your belly feels better soon, mine took about 6 days before I could say it wasn't sore anymore. Try liquid Tylenol if you don't want to take a narcotic. I know, the soup routine gets old. I also ate Greek yogurt, know it's not a true liquid but it melts in your mouth and has lots of protein. I found a great tasting protein powder on www.Vitacost.com, my favorite online store for vitamins and such, it's called Gold Standard Whey. It's quite a bit less expensive then others I've seen and has great ratings on the website. I've mixed a scoop of the chocolate with a package of sugar free hot choclotae mix for a real treat at night. The vanilla is good, too, and blends well with other flavors. Another favorite find is V8 Fusion Light, it's a vegtable/fruit juice drink really yummy and great ingredients, it comes in 3 flavors. Here's too us all, just think where we'll be NEXT March!

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

Hello everyone, Had my band placed on Monday 1/4/2010. I have been back to work since thursday and have been only using motrin for the pain. My port site on the right side is tender but I guess this would be normal. I have 5 incisions one on my belly button about 1.5 inches and 4 on my abdomen two of them are about 1.5 inches and the other two are about .5 inches all healing really well. The diet is clear liquids with my protein shake 3 times a day and as much water as I can manage but atleast 64 oz. I gained weight when i first got home I am assuming due to the fluids. Now I am 5 days post op and am now under my presurgical weight by 2 LBS. I started at 206 surgery date than went to 210 when I got home now currently am 204. Just a little blurb, my real reason for posting is, where will we all keep in touch. On this thread or will we use another thread? I don't completely understand how the postings work, please help me so I can keep in touch with all of the January bandsters. So far I am so happy with the whole exp. the no eating is a little tough but I try to stay busy, I have my first post op appointment on Monday 1/11/2009. I hope I can have some yogurt after that appointment, that would be really great . Good luck to everyone
  11. Hey Kim87 - *hey I graduated in 1987! LOL * Anyway - I'm 13 days post op and I felt exactly the same as you. I had some regret there thinking - will it stay this way? - but on day 7 felt so so so much better! I'm better everyday - can bend over just fine and sleep so much better in this last week. I'm really struggling staying on a full liquid diet - my Dr said 3 weeks liquid diet after which mean I'd be on full liquids until 3/31. I'm still trying but have eaten some mashed potatos, refried beans - that sort of thing bc I really felt like I needed it and wanted to listen to my body. I also am eating yogurt to help me feel full. I need to do more water and protien drinks - I feel like if I did that - maybe I'd feel fuller longer. I'm consuming approx 900 calories now - but I've not lost any weight in the last week. I'm hoping its b/c of all he sodium I'm consuming eating so much soup. I want to get to 1000-1200 calories and more protien as I've read so many times that people began losing once they upped the protien. What are you eating currently? you're in the mushy food stage right? What is working for you and are you doing any exercise yet? I'm starting treadmill today and going back to personal trainer next week with weights.

Side Effects With The Pre-Op Diet...

Morning of Day 3. I feel much better. Day one I thought I would die. I'm allowed 3-4 high protein, low carb shakes, and a 4-5 from a list of things I'll say below. Yesterday I went shoppoing and got so many choices. I bought all diff. protein shakes at Vitamin Shoppe (including Oh Yeah my favorite), non-chunky yogurt (like Dannon light and fit lemon), those Imagine pureed soups, every sugar free popsicle they make, sugar free pudding and jelllo (that I may once in a while put a dallop of sf cool whip) and I also can have cream of wheat or rice. Honestly, the cream of wheat with cinnamon saved my life last night because it's the only things that feels like it has texture.
  13. I haven't been on this web site in almost a month... honestly... because I am ashamed of myself. I researched bariatric surgery for nearly 10 years before I finally had all my kids (5 beautiful red-heads) and the military insurance (Tricare) would cover the lapband instead of only the RNY, which I thought was too invasive for me.....but now... ugh...I had my lap-band on 26 March. It is an 11cc band (that's larger than most). I was 252 and I am honestly scared to death to step on a scale to see if I have lost anything. I know I am eating less than I was before, but I read books about people eating 1/4cup yogurt for breakfast, 1 soft egg for lunch, a protein shake for a snack and a light dinner, maybe 3 oz of shrimp and 2 BITES of sweet potatoe... and I am JEALOUS of these people... I want to feel full after eating almost nothing... but I honestly eat almost anything. I am scared. I bought a couple books with low carb/high protein recipes in it and so far - they are pretty good. It ain't Gramma's Chicken casserole, but it's good food. One book, Before and After, has been very helpful. The author had RNY 6 years ago, so some of the info (the no sugar and dumping info) doesn't apply, but the rest has been at least helpful enough that I don't feel completely alone. I eat too much. My surgeon is in the states (I live in Italy) teaching US doctors how to do the surgery - so I can't have my follow-up with him till at least 1 May. I will beg him to fill the band as much as possible... I didn't go into this surgery lightly and I desperately want it to work. I try to stick to 85 (at least)grams of protein a day and no more than 25 grams of carbs. I drink constantly (except around meals) and track what I eat most days... but the fat jeans still fit well... :rolleyes2:
  14. gosh, I was proud that I had gone back to work 4 days after, I am now 8 days and haven't even thought about starting to exercise! I am exhausted by the time I get home from school, and it is about all I can do to crawl into bed! As for eating, my doctor allowed yogurt, thinned mashed potatoes, diet jello, along with the liquid diet stuff, so things haven't been too bad. But I must admit, I ate some crackers today with my soup (I really made sure ther were all but gone before I swallowed...), and dang they were good! I hope you all keep doing great! I have my two week check-up next Thursday. I think that I will get to add mushy stuff then! Lets hope!!

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones... only one day of clear liquids pre-op, and on solid food in week 3, but find myself preferring soups and yogurt still. My doc puts a fill in the band when he puts it in, so I don't think I've had quite the hell everyone describes. Stupidly, I don't know my band's capacity or how much he started with... will ask when I go see him in 3 more weeks. Congrats to all on your progress to date! What fun we will all have as we learn to live with our bands and watch the pounds peel off!
  16. Conetha, My surgeon has us on Clear Liquids for the first 7 days (with the addition of protein powder and/or protein drinks or soups that are clear (ie. Bari Wise Chicken Broth- has 15 gm of protein). We were allowed "no added sugar" fruit juice, like apple or white cranberry. (but in limited quantities, and organic if possible). Then weeks 2 & 3 "full" liquids- which includes skim milk, yogurt (no fruit chunks), sugarfree/fatfree custard or pudding, thicker lowfat cream or other soups (no chunks though- have to strain it), & V8 juice and pureed stuff that was thin (one recommendation was baby food, stage 1 & 2- but I had to pass on that!). Then week 4 is soft mashed. This could be mashed sweet potato, soft scrambled egg, egg salad finely chopped, tuna finely chopped, , soft poached fresh fish, Soft veggies mashed a bit, apple sauce, mashed banana, anything that was pretty much chewed up for you. Then week 5 full regular diet.. but with the addition of only one new food a day... to be able to see if you tolerated it or not. So basically, the analogy is that we are learning to eat just like a little baby. Gradually increasing the textures. Now that I am on regular food, I am feeling so much better. I am feeling some fullness after meals. Not sure if it is the band, since there is no fill... or if my stomach just "shrunk" from not eating real food for a month. Where are you in all this? Are your week 1 or 2, when did you have surgery? In my opinion, if you are doing ok... it is ok to start something a couple days early, but they don't want your stomach having to digest too much too early.

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

txprincess, thanks for chatting. My problem is at night too. For breakfast i usually have a protein shake, or hard boiled egg with fruit, snack is usually yogurt, lunch is always a protein, usually chicken, and i try to get in a veggie. Dinner varies i do a lot of grilled chicken, and fish. Sweets is my problem and the drinking on the weekend. I will still devour a piece or cake or a couple brownies with milk, then lay in bed in agony. My husband asks why i do that to myself....and i have no good answer. I really thought i would do well with this, and it is very frustrating. If you ever want to talk more about things or how a day went my email is rachels0678@aol.com. Maybe we can compare things and work together:) Im trying to keep my head up and so far today hasnt been so bad....

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

My surgery is set for the 17th!! Only 3 more days! I have been on liquids all day yesterday and today and so far so good. I think I wont have any problems making it 2 more days! Wish me luck tho, I know I could use it. Reading all the posts has been great and such a learning tool, just all the different opinions and useful ideas. I am so glad I found this site! I am a little confused between clear liquids and liquid diet. My paperwork says clear liquids but also lists protein shakes, yogurt and other "unclear" liquids. Anyone have any thoughts as to that? I have staying with clear except for my protein shake. That has been like my only "meal". I am wishing everyone the best results and look forward to reading up on everyone's progress! Merry Christmas to us.

    Any December '08 Bandsters?

Tomorrow is my big day. I have to be at the hospital at 6am. I am so excited to start this next phase. I am sick of shakes, tomato soup, yogurt and pudding. I know I have at least another 2-3 weeks of that but at least I can add in applesauce and bananas in a week. :tongue2:

    Pre op liquid diet

My surgery date is August 26. I'm having gastric bypass. I lost 26 lbs by changing my diet in the last 3 months. Today I started the liquid diet. My stomach was very upset this morning. I had a Premier Protein shake for Breakfast and felt horrible. Maybe it's mental because I consumed those for breakfast sometimes before today. For lunch today I had a chicken Soup unjury shake with 1% milk, which tasted like chicken broth. I'm also drinking Water, as much as I want. I figure that may make me feel fuller during the day. I'm on a full liquid diet for two weeks, which includes pudding and yogurt, but most items are sweet, not savory so I'm feeling a bit urpy and hungry. I think a lot of the hunger can be attributed to the reason why I'm overweight, which is that I just like to eat......anything. I'm totally addicted to food. I'm a Midwestern gal and love my food! The doctor told me that my taste buds may change after surgery and I will probably not crave the things I crave now. I sure hope he's right, but just in case, I have scheduled an appointment with a psychologist to help me with my addiction and relationship with food. I sure hope I can stick to this liquid diet!

Pre-Op Diet Fears...how did you do it?

What does your plan allow? I did an all liquid shakes/broth diet for 2 weeks. Days 2-4/5 were HELL. Stomach rumbling, slight headache. Do your best to stay occupied, and remain focus. It is a large hill to climb, but you can get there. My plan allows for sugar free Jello, pudding, light yogurt, cream of wheat/oatmeal, and 1-2 cups veggies. Stay Strong @@fancypants67!!
  23. Yep still have some pain. Mostly in my back and the incision on my right side. Lots of gas still. Water doesn't go down well but I can get back Protein shakes down and yogurt. I can't wait until I'm all healed up. Good luck everyone.
  24. di1138

    Milk? :S

I use one 8 oz glass of skim with a protein shake every day. When you say 3 X a day do you mean glasses? with even low fat milk that could be over 300 calories. I don't eat cereal because it doesn't stick with me. I do have oatmeal mixed with a fat free yogurt most mornings.

    NewOrleansLady Good Luck tomorrow!

My doctor put me on Full liquids after day two, this included yogurt, sugar free pudding, cottage cheese, cream of wheat cereal, milk, thick soups. The yogurt and pudding really helped at those times I was really hungry. Listen to your body, you will know when to stop eating. Now at two weeks I can progress to pureed foods. He told me to go slow when I start transitioning to 'real' food and to be careful with meat. When I saw him yesterday and he said I was doing great. I only have 30 more pounds to lose. My next visit is in six weeks.
