Read2016 replied to phatfatgirl's topic in Food and Nutrition
I make my shakes with Water and add cottage cheese, Greek yogurt or Peanut Butter... Put it in the blender with ice... Sprinkle cinnamon powder on top before drinking... I use a combat Protein powder, Cookies and cream flavor. "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them" Einstein -
So my typical day consist of Protein shake in the morning made with GNC Protein powder and HEB Mootopia about 32 grams of protein, lunch time I've been eating a Protein Bar 10 to 20 grams of protein mattering what I can handle and at night I eat a Greek Yogurt with 15 grams of protein. Surgeon wants me eating 60 grams of protein so I am there. Real food does not always go down real easy. I have tried a lot and chicken and shrimp do not work. Taco meat is the best that I found I'll eat that with refried Beans and a little queso and I am good to go, but that is like once or twice a week. I have not got the results back form either of the test yet so I do not know. I have also seem my GP who was on the border of being concerned i guess. He was going to look at the test results and let me know his opinion. I really trust my GP but I am a little on the fence about the surgeon at this time. I am taking no Medication at this time. Thanks Captain

Refried beans with a little melted cheee & salsa, cottage cheese with salad dressing or salsa or other savory mix-ins (PB2 works well too), Greek yogurt with PB2 stirred in, poached eggs, Shelly's Ricotta Bake. I would also take some meat, puree it with a flavorful sauce, and then heat it up in the microwave with a little shredded cheese on top. I know what you are thinking . . . pureed meat, gross! But when you add something tasty in the food processor and heat it up, it tastes just like a casserole, only without the carby stuff you don't need like rice or noodles. Some of my favorite combos were (just to give you some ideas): ranch-flavor tuna with ranch dressing, sriracha sauce, and pepper jack cheese Shrimp with buffalo wing sauce and bleu cheese Chicken breast with marinara sauce & mozzarella cheese Turkey breast with peanut satay sauce & jack cheese Ground bison with low carb bbq sauce and cheddar cheese Chicken with tikka masala sauce and Swiss cheese Good luck!

That yogurt and shower will probably make you feel like a million bucks!! I had spinal surgery in November and couldn't shower for almost 6 weeks!! Once I could finally shower and wash my oily hair I felt sooooo much better!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Changing my eating habits before surgery.
Bufflehead replied to sheronep's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Get a kitchen scale and start weighing your portions. If you haven't, sign up for a MFP account (or similar) and start tracking your food intake. I think it's fine to try out shakes and bars, but honestly I would focus on healthy, low carb, unprocessed foods pre-op. Shakes and bars tend to be high carb, high calorie, overly processed and easily consumed in huge but unsatisfying amounts. People need them immediately post-op, but long term do better with things like chicken breast, broccoli, Greek yogurt, almonds, etc. rather than the glorified candy bars called protein bars, IMO. eta: another "eating habit" that you may want to start practicing is not drinking with your meals, or for 30 minutes after. Good luck to you! -

I have a seroma that requires draining. You can cause more scarring. Pull a stitch. Get an infection. Wear your compression garment all the time unless showering. I recommend going to walgreens or Walmart and getting a big bottle of hibiclens. It's about $20. Wash your body for a few days before surgery and for weeks afterward. Keeps your risk of infection low. Supplement your intake with Protein powder. I added unflavored to my broth, soups and yogurt. Increasing your protein facilitates healing. I also took arnica Montana for swelling. Take your pain meds. That's great advice thank you Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Hi. I'm almost 3 weeks post op and I'm struggling with food. I am on the soft food phase, I follow the rules. I eat very slow and I take very small bites (the size of a pencil eraser) yet everything I eat gets stuck even yogurt and apple sauce. As you can imagine it's very uncomfortable. What can I do? @tammyqp16... Grilled chicken, deli meat, cheese, Greek yogurt, spinach, tomatoes, hemp seed, flax seed, blueberries, apples, nuts all kinds, great added to yogurt with cinnamon..If you must have rice I would go with brown rice and Pasta I would get rice pasta. Best to avoid pasta and rice as they don't fill you up...I think that's the bulk of my weekly shopping list, of course I add change as needed Ground turkey/chicken/beef to make chil I add veggies to it.. Seriously, how do you get all of your protein in?!
jess9395 replied to mlgok's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ditto what's been said. No way could I get all my Protein from food until maybe 1.5 years post op and honestly still can't most days at 2.5 year out and I've been at goal for a year and a half! I also used 5-6 small meals a day rather than three squares again because my capacity wasn't large enough to fit everything in. Still do that to this day. High protein Snacks like Greek yogurt, shrimp, tuna, Jerky and yeah Quest Protein Bars. -

I think they are tasty, I usually take them off the stick and add them to salad... I'm pre op so I can do that lol... I thought the price was good for all you get... If you live near trader joe's they have grilled chicken strip which are also tasty, depending on where I'm doing errands depends on which one I get... Let me know if you like them Why can't you make that sauce with Greek yogurt, I know I've seen recipes online for that. You're fine. It took me almost a year to hit my Protein goals and I never could have done it without 2 Protein shakes a day. I'd voice your concern and see if you can't have one a day along with what you are eating. You can also add protein powder to yogurt, SF pudding, Peanut Butter... eggs were really hard on me for awhile as was chicken. Have you tried a softer protein like crab or shrimp? Crab legs were heaven for me because they were so soft and SO normal after so many weeks of liquids. -
Puréed food ideas please
Soon2BHealthyAggie replied to Cjanerun's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I definitely didn't have bland food. I put sriracha on everything. Refried Beans, I topped with plain Greek yogurt that was mixed with chili powder, cumin, and garlic powder. There are a lot of foods that have flavor in the Puree stage. Think texture not flavor! I liked cream of wheat with banana baby food mixed in, it was actually really flavorful. Daily calories in protein shake phase
JamieLogical replied to jersey0601's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be allowed more than just protein shakes at 2 weeks post-op. I was allowed strained cream soups and yogurt as well at that point. You definitely want to get your calories higher as soon as you are able. Being that low for long is going to wreck you metabolism. -
Yes @@Cjanerun You can eat anything in a puree consistency. Strained cream soups or pureed soups (watch sugar content), hummus, greek yogurt (watch sugar), mashed cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, scrambled eggs, egg salad, refried beans, etc.

How are my fellow Pre opers? I am still doing well with the plan but I have not lost any weight after the 5lbs mark. I don't know if it is just a stall (after a week?) or my body freaking out over the sudden decrease in carbs, cals and all that jazz. I am averaging 700-1000 cals a day and doing the shakes and full liquids (yogurt, SF pudding and Jellos, and soups) I am getting excited to be less than a week out though!!!!

So much different medical advice on what we can eat post op.
sallo replied to Megan1982's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't believe that people are told no carbs until all weight is lost. My Nutritionist & surgeon allowed me to eat anything (within reason) and I've lost weight as successfully as someone with a restricted diet. I also stopped Protein shakes as soon as I could tolerate solid foods. Post op diets in America sound hard core! Anyhow, I agree with eating greek yogurt. I used to have some with fruit puree to jazz it up. -
I'm well past surgery (10 months) and have been adding Chia seeds and ground flax to my daily Greek yogurt for the past 6 months. Nutritionally, both are great for you and I've had zero problems.

Hello everyone! Ramadan has started few days ago and i was wondering if there were any sleevers that are going through fasting for the first time or have something to share with others who are fasting. i am one month and two weeks post op and my experience with ramadan is going great so far, for those of you who don't know what ramadan is, its the ninth month of the Muslim year where muslims strictly obtain from eating, drinking, smoking and sex from sun rise to sun set for a period of thirty days. in my region we fast for 4 am to 7 pm a total of 15 hours every day, during I've experienced little to no hunger! which is amazing! BUT it is easy to get extremely dehydrated because my Water intake is limited by feeling sick and bloated if i drink fast or large quantities at times, so i have to remind myself to drink sips of water every few minutes to keep myself hydrated. Heres a few tips that might help you from my experience, when it comes to breaking my fast I've noticed that if i ate immediately i will get nauseas and probably won't eat for hours after which is a bad idea because you have little time to get all your Vitamins and nutrians , so instead a glass of water or juice some dates and a break for 15 minutes will do then i go and have something to eat, by that i won't shock my stomach and go from extremely hungry to extremely full in a few seconds. it is very important in this month in particular to not skip your Multivitamins, it is extremely hard to plan your meals like other days and you'll find yourself gravitating towards fatty foods, sweets and lots of high sugary drinks that will make you feel weak and probably hungry in a few hours so the least you can do is have your vitamins and Protein. if you're craving fatty foods be sure to focus on the healthy ones that will make you feel full and not as guilty, salmon avocados Peanut Butter are some of your good options. DO NOT WORKOUT WHILE FASTING! its extremely dangerous to your body, your body is already weak during fasting and putting the extra pressure won't do you any good, the best time to work out is after hours of breaking your fast, you'll be reenergized by that time. Suhor (eating an hour before you fast) is usually the hardest thing to do but it is very important not to skip it, it is usually in the very late at night 3:30 am or 2 am Suhor is there to help you carry on for the next day. for me i keep a covered plate of a sandwich some vegetables yogurt and water next to my bed stand to make sure i never skip it. i know its sounds funny, but watching other people eat sometimes helps me forget that I'm hungry somehow SO Mukbang eating shows have been so helpful these few days. that is all i have, if you have any ideas or suggestion please feel free to share i could use a couple more to help me through Ramadan. Thank you for your time and happy Ramadan to all!

Just keep trying to eat pureed or soft foods. Try some refried Beans, yogurt, SF Jello, strained Soups, Protein shakes, gatorade...Just do an ounce or two every couple hours. Things will continue to improve. The first month it is a bit tough. Around week 5 you begin to really feel better.
