  1. NSV is a Non Scale Victory. Like fitting into smaller sizes, being able to exercise more, fitting into an airplane seat without a seatbelt extender etc.

    Yay, Lil Nsv!

It's those little NSVs that help us stay on track sometimes. The little twinge of success makes it all worthwhile.

    Pre-surgery NSV

Thank you Autumn. I am quite proud of myself. Congratulations on your acceptance into your Vet Program. hey you don't have to lose much to have a NSV!!! You will be amazed. Couple of things you should do before your surgery, 1) take BEFORE photos so you can compare 2) take your measurements - so that when you hit the 3 week stall, you can check your measurements and see there are things going on and you don't get as frustrated. Sheila
  5. Congratulations!! What a NSV to wear your ring once again. Keep up the good work!
  6. I just got home from the mall and had to share my nsv. It's taken a great deal of nerve for me to shop in the petite section of our local department store. I keep waiting to get kicked out for obviously shoping in the wrong section!!! lol Well today I bravely went into the more exclusive boutique section to see if I could find a deal. I was looking through some clothes and the saleslady approached me saying I was in the women's sizes and that the clothes I was looking at wouldn't fit me! I was humiliated UNTIL I realized she was telling me that I was looking at the one rack they had of plus size. She actually took me by the arm to show me where their regular size boutique clothes were!!!!! Made my day!

    My First NSV

I'm so excited right now! I ordered two pairs of size 24 jeans several months ago. When I tried them on pre-surgery they were a good 6 inches away from buttoning. I tried them on today expecting that they wouldn't fit and they do! Okay, they're a little tight in the thighs, but still! Also, another NSV hit me today. I bought a huge bag of Halloween candy from costco over a week ago. Normally, if I had something like that in the house I would obsess until I broke down and ate 8 or 10 pieces and I was sitting in a sugar coma. Over the course of a week, I've only had 3 pieces. I don't even think about it being in the house. I know I shouldn't be eating candy at all, but that's such a huge improvement for me! And, I only had one piece at a time and was satisfied. I have all sorts of other junk here because I'm having a birthday party for my son this weekend, and I haven't been able to eat more than a bite or two. Restriction rocks! I'm down 6 lbs since my first fill 9 days ago. Now if I could just get my butt in gear and start exercising I'd really feel like hot s**t...

    My First NSV

Thanks for the words of support and encouragement everyone! Vines - your post about NSV's is what gave me a mental shove to look for changes since my surgery. Your an inspiration for those of us new to bandland!

    My Best Nsv!

So I haven't posted in a while, but yesterday was a shocker for me & I thought I really need to share this. I am almost 3 months post-op (06/05) and so far I have lost 40lbs (including pre-op lost), including 2 stalls. I can't see the difference but I know the difference in the way that my clothes fit. So yesterday I went shopping for some black slacks & a top for an upcoming job interview @ work. I started this journey wearing a size 20 or 22 on a good day, I do own a few 18's but in the past couple of weeks they are too big in the waist. I found a pair of slacks and a top both in a 16 (not a 16W), went into the dressing room to try them on (thinking that they would be too small, still the BIG GIRL shopping in my head). Lo and behold the pants fit and the top also, I broke down in the dressing room and these were happy tears that were falling. I can't believe that in less than 3 months I am down 3 sizes, my collarbones have made an appearance, and I am 10lbs away from my first 50lbs lost and I will hit ONEDERLAND. My goal for the first 50lbs & Onederland is June 30th.

WHY do i still feel fat???

Nikki, everything you are feeling is perfectly normal. I still catch myself automatically grabbing size 20W shirts, and pants, and I'm in a size 10, and in between a small to medium top. I don't understand it, I can't wrap my head around it some days. I think my head has a lot more catching up to do. People don't even recognize me who have known me for over a year, and I just laugh at them. I can't really see it myself, but did have an "ah ha" moment yesterday when cleaning out my closet. I got rid of 8 (yes 8) of the 39 gallon lawn and leaf Hefty bags full of clothes. John (the husband) was like "baby, are you sure you can't wear ANY of these clothes?" I picked up a random pair of jeans size 24W, slid them on, and I could look down inside of the pantsand see my toes in the leg of the pants. They were so big on me, and I have no idea why I was holding onto them. My clothes brought me lots of comfort, and I took pride in my appearance even when I was 270lbs. Getting rid of those clothes, help me purge those feelings of being fat. Trying on those size 10's today felt great, and it was a moment that I won't forget. Hang in there. You'll see the results. Try on some of your old clothes, and really see the difference. Numbers on the scale only do so much for me, I need those little NSV's to get me through. Also, have you tried different brands of jeans. If not, I highly recommend trying some different brands, you'd be surprised with how different some of them are cut.
  16. When I started my weight loss journey 3 years ago I wore a size 12 ring, when it fit! I was over 420 pounds, in 2 years I lost 170 pounds and maintained for 1 year than in July got banded. I have now lost over 200 pounds. Last weekend went shopping with a friend and we were looking at jewelry the clerk insisted I try a ring on, much to my amazement it fit! She said it was a size 7, well I knew a 8 fit but could it be. I than tried on a dozen or more rings all were size 7's!! OMG the first ring I ever owned at age 11 was a 10, I have never worn a size 7 ever! Well my friend said well Susan you said you wanted to wear a single digit size and I laughed and said I didn't mean in a ring or underpants! I wear 12 and 14's but I want to make it to a single digit size hopefully! But hey a 10 would be great too! Just had to share.

    Major NSV for me

I have been a nurse for over 13 yrs. I have always wore xxl or xxxl for a very short time when i was on a crazy diet i wore xl. But i have NEVER ever wore a size Large uniform. Always thought wow i want those cute outfits to wear to work but they dont normally make them in the size i needed. Well this week i noticed the XXl pants i was wearing was falling OFF. So i put on the few xl i have and well i was hmm wow they are sure loose, So yesterday i tried on a Large... OMG they fit. They wasnt tight they FIT!!!! I could have danced out of the dressing room and pranced around the store if it wasnt i did not want to get carted off to the crazy ward!!!

    Progress

Congrats on a successful surgery! You'll move in and out of those high school clothes faster than you can imagine. That was the only slightly frustrating thing - having to buy transition clothes and wearing them for only a short time. I went from a size 18 to old pairs of 16s and 14s I had around. Then I was finally able to buy 12s at a thrift store. I skipped right past size 10 and picked up 8s (again at thrift stores). When those got too big and I was nearing my goal weight I finally bought some size 6 jeans at nicer stores. I've surpassed my goal another 15 pounds and can actually fit into size 4 now but since I don't anticipate staying at this weight long term I'm not going nuts buying a bunch of size 4. Sex is a nice NSV. I have a lot more sensitivity, flexibility and endurance than I did before. I love being able to cross my legs. Shoe shopping is a lot more fun. I don't need wide width shoes anymore and my feet don't hurt as much carrying around all the weight that was previously there. I could wear my wedges at a wedding last weekend for several hours and they never became uncomfortable. I might be able to tolerate heels now! Exercising is a lot easier. I exercise for fun and its actually fun now. Bike riding and dancing, even just evening walks with my husband aren't as difficult and I'm more willing to do it. I do need to start a muscle building regime though because I lost all the padding on my butt and my tailbone hurts A LOT with sitting a long time and hard chairs are awful. Shaving my legs is easier. So is painting my toe nails. Shaving my arm pits is NOT. They are a lot more concave and I can't quite figure out how to maneuver the razor.

    Gastric Bypass Sucess Story

RNY stands for Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. NSV stands for Non scale Victory, such as smaller clothes, off meds, etc.
  23. This morning I finished 13.1 miles and it was AMAZING!!!! Celebrating 145lbs lost so far....I was able to run with my son on Friday in the Disney kids races and then able to finish my half marathon race today! Tough, emotional, painful....but so rewarding. Highly recommend the RunDisney for anyone looking into racing. This was my second attempt at a half marathon. The picture on the left was about 2 years ago and maybe 80/90lbs heavier. I only made it to mile 9 and my body gave out. Still an amazing experience but nothing on what it felt like today crossing that finish line!

    NSV

A few years ago some friends came to visit. We live about 5 minutes from Six Flags and our families went to the park. I wanted to ride the Batman ride. I get on and could get the seat all the day to get the buckle to work. The guy was rushing to make sure everyone was set and I had to get off because I was just too big to fit. On Friday night my daughter, her friend and I went to Six Flags and I rode Batman! (and Superman!) It really meant A LOT to me to say I can do anything a normal person can do again! And then I said, "Why am I riding a roller coaster?!" I "cheated" death on those two roller coasters LOL and now I am done with roller coasters, I think, but so proud, happy and normal!!!!!
