  1. Or my recommendation, head for the nearest Bariatric Center of Excellence hospital, doesn't hurt if they also are a teaching hospital. I just had mine at Ohio State University-Wexner Medical Center in Columbus Ohio. My surgeon as well as being Chief of Bariatric Medicine and Metabolic Weight Loss is also a Full Professor in the College of Medicine. In my book, teaching hospitals are the best and always on the cutting edge!

    New to all of this!

I'm in the very early stages here in England and have been told it can be up to 18 months on the NHS. The main reason ( Aswell as loosing weight ) is I suffer from severe Crohn's disease and they feel this will benefit me in controlling food and triggers to how poorly I can be. I have a few unhealthy things that need to be changed! Saying no to sweets & crisps! But my actual meals are healthy it's the snacking Inbetween and missing breakfast! But I have decided to go with the band instead of bypass, to help control everything and stop me from doing yoyo diets! Thankyou for all your comments

    Struggling day to day

It isn't easy. Ever. But I am glad I get to restart every morning and say today is going to be a good day full of self control. So far I've only had 2 days where I fell and ate foods that I shouldn't have. I'm only 3.5 weeks out so I anticipate those will happen from time to time. Both things happened on the same day. The next day I brushed myself off and started over making sure to get my fluids and protein in. I know that there are foods I just can't have around- others aren't a problem. Pizza and pie are the 2 that just can't happen for me. But ice cream, chips, soda. candy so far I haven't even been tempted yet. I'm sure as I become more active and lose more weight I'll have other motivations for sticking with it as well. And I have you all here to pull me through it. Thanks! Hw 223, SW 217 CW 200 GW 135

    Struggling day to day

I have to agree with @Pam_2-06-2017. You have to find the strength and perseverance within yourself to do what you need to do to reach your goals. It's as simple as that. My partner lost 115 pounds from February 2016 until December 2016. That time period was my six month pre-op diet program and three months of post-op life. He got to his goal of 200 pounds (he's 6'1"). At that time (end of December 2016), I weighed about 250ish, and still had a ways to go to get to my goal. Since then, he has eaten what he wants (and gained some weight back, too). Crap is in the house all of the time. He wants fast food, so we go through a drive-thru. You know what? I buy it at the store for him. I hand him the credit card in the drive-thru line. I hold the ice-cream cone while he gets situated in the car. But I don't eat any of it, because I know that isn't what I am supposed to do. The mental part of this game (whether it is pre-op, immediately post-op, or 2 years out) is the hardest part, and where the war is won. I wish you the best as you continue. I'd recommend working with a psychologist and/or a nutritionist to help you get re-started. Having an experienced person to talk to often really helps.

Telling Ur Fb Friends And Family

Proceed with caution! We all KNOW this procedure saved our lives, but others feel as though we took the easy way out. Remember your fb post are not only read by your friends but friends of friends that comment on your status updates. Not saying be ashamed, but start posting pics of your loss and progress and if they are sincerely trying to lose weight let that be an "inbox" type convo! Good luck and I am glad you are feeling GREAT!
  6. If you stick to the plan for food and don't over stretch your new tummy, this time should be better. I've done the same yo-yo trip up and down in a 70lb range. I don't see how I could possibly gain it all back if I'm eating the right portions and having mostly low carbs. You can do it. And you look awesome [emoji6] Sent from my Pixel 3 using BariatricPal mobile app

1 Month Out- Having A Tough Time

JudyR you are doing great. From your ticker you actually don't have that much weight to lose. And those of us who don't have that much will lose slower, but it will come off. When I went in for my two month check up the doctor was quite pleased with my weight loss. I gave him a strange look and he looked at me and said I was doing great as I had to remember I didn't have much to lose as other people. I had my hiatal hernia repaired when I was banded and that surgery took a little longer to come back from in 2010. Now of course the pain meds will make you sleepy which makes you feel like you have no energy, but I think the tearful issue is more of a hormone issue which some go through. I'm sorry you are still in pain though. But all of this should come to pass, it just takes awhile.
  9. My surgeon told me that by the end of summer, 9 months after sleeve surgery, I would be done losing weight. I'm just wondering if anyone understands this. Is this bc my metabolism will be used to my low calories? I still have about 40 lbs to lose yikes! Band to sleeve revision surgery 1/16/17 HW: 283 CW: 199 GW: 160
  10. Is it on your plan for for liquids? Do you have a list of approved liquids for this phase? Yes, it's hard. But a lot of this whole journey is hard. Change is hard. But if you really want to do this and be successful, you've got to follow the plan. You've got to learn to delay gratification. You're going to have to do it a lot to lose weight and keep it off. You're 3 days post op. If yougurt is not on your plan at this phase then stick with your liquids and let yourself heal for goodness sakes. It will get easier as time goes on.

    Waiting Game

Hi Josallyn, Welcome! Congrats on your new upcoming journey! Well I went throughout a doctor that participates with West medical and all I needed was 3 month supervised diet (I did 6months just to be sure), a visit with psychiatrist, and a nutrition appointment, that's pretty much it and just trying to stay in the same weight bracket. Blue shield is fast for approval and they are efficient I will say that! Thank you I feel great! I'm down 25lbs but it's different getting use to eating and learning how much you can and can not eat. Overall I definitely feel like I made a great decision, how everything goes well for you!

    Weight lost mark

My nutritionalist suggested a 1400 calorie diet for me. However, I found out that anything over 1,000 calories a day caused me to maintain or even gain weight. I discovered this through months of keeping a daily j o u r n a l.

    Hello from Houston

I'm too new to be a pro but I've lost 41.4 pounds so far...I have longed for something like the band forever. I truly get HUNGRY between meals and this will help that tremendously! I did go to a behavior therapist because many morbidly obese people are emotional eaters and that never really fit for me; but I discovered I was using food as a reward, if you will. (for example: I worked hard today I don't want to cook I'll pick up chicken I DESERVE a break) that type thing. Apparently I warranted a LOT of rewards LOL. Being aware of that helps, but the band has given me hope. Because I have successfully dieted many times in the past, only to get bored or tired of writing down every bite etc and I would gain it back. With the band, I think I'll eventually be freed of all that worry and nonsense. So many diets require you think constantly about food; I do better when I can put food in the background. Once I get the knack of chewing, Protein first, no liquids during meals etc I think I'll be able to do just that; let food take a back seat to life. SO I'm no pro yet but very hopeful; I think my plan will work! Welcome to you!

  15. Alright, I'm kinda new around here and I just recently got filled so that I'm finally losing weight. In the last 3 and a half weeks I'm down almost 18 pounds (liquids, blenderized, soft, etc) and I've changed nothing in the way that I'm eating over the weekend. But now the scale went up 6 pounds since Friday. Now, could this huge weight increase be because I'm supposed to "start" pretty soon or what? I'm keeping track of all of my foods/calories/protein like I should be. I'm getting 1200 - 1500 cal. per day and 60 - 70 grams of protein a day. I'm only drinking water like I should be and I'm walking, like I should be. But it's just frustrating that after weeks of losing I started to gain some this weekend and of course, I go back to my doctor tomorrow. Could starting your period really cause that much of a weight (water, more than likely) increase? What can you do to help it along as well? Thanks!

Did You Have To Do 6Mos Supervised Diet

I had to do the supervised diet, and also had to lose 5% of my starting weight. If you don't have to do it, that's great. But if you do, just go with the flow because the doctors you will work with know exactly what to do! The six months is great for getting your head in order as well. While we have surgery on our stomach, our heads need a lot of work and prep too! Good luck!

Did You Have To Do 6Mos Supervised Diet

I had to complete the six month supervised diet also. I was fortune because intially I wanted to have the LapBand. However, after learning of the gastric sleeve I changed my mind, and other issues I was experiencing with the LapBand program. The insurance allowed me to use those six months towards the sleeve requirements. Either way my insurance, Cigna, did require a six month supervised weight loss program. They were the longest six months. Good luck
  19. I was banded in 2003 in TJ. At my highest weight of 310 (I am 5'7"). The band worked great for me - I lost a total of 170 lbs and went from a size 32 to a 6. I got some plastics done (TT, BA, Lipo and face lift) Really loved my new body and most importantly I was no longer obsessed with food. I ran a marathon, started swimming and walking. This continued for 6 years! Then I lost my saiety - and was able to eat more and more. I tried to stay with the program but it wasn't working. Went back to TJ and OCC says - stretched pouch. Took out all my fill (gained 10 lbs) got a bit of fill back - nothing. We did this 3 times - resulting in a total of 30 lbs...plus a few more I managed to pack on...I started beating myself up - why couldn't I do this..I had been so successful. My clothes didn't fit..my tummy tuck hurt...Holy Heck fire...Back I went to OCC and we talked about revisions - Plication seems to be my best bet - lower BMI - didn't want to cut anything out..So I start the second leg of this journey on July 1st- hopefully I will lose the 38 lbs to get back to my lowest weight and use this new tool to help guide me back to where I want to be..
  20. sounds like a lot but it really needs to be measured to tell. It looks like you are dong well with your weight loss. If you were not able to eat this much you might loose too much weight. Maybe the surgeon left you a larger size stomach. I am about 8 months out and I can eat about 3/4 of a lean cuisine. but not all of the mashed potatoes.
  21. Out of control! I was doing so good on my diet with the nutritionist, lost 23 pounds as of 2 weeks ago.. surgery is in 13 days and it seems my appetite is crazy.. I have the feeling Ill be gaining it back by the time surgery is here... Ugh I guess its Im in the state of mind of thinking well I can just have this one more time.. one more time.. one more time... HELP!

    Sugar?

I use Splenda Brown Sugar Blend in moderate quantities and I'm fine but I do count it in my daily calories to keep me honest. Lap Band patients should NOT have any dumping or diarrhea or other unpleasant side effects from sugar like gastric bypass patients but nonetheless, too much sugar = less than desired weight loss. That's enough to keep me in check.
  23. Banded in 4/09 - lost 60 lbs so far - doing well, except I notice that I can't eat solid foods very well and oftentimes am eating things that I know can just slide through - ie. Beans, sour cream, Soups, etc. chicken, Steak, Fish is all almost IMPOSSIBLE even when I chew chew chew..... Even eggs are quite impossible, especially in the morning. I don't want to screw with my weight loss and I am certainly feeling "full" although not for many hours. I am thinking a SLIGHT unfill to allow for more solid food, thus helping me feel "fuller" longer?.?.? Agree or disagree? Thanks!!!!!
  24. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for a couple years. My Obgyn said when I lose weight it should help. Have you guys heard anything from your doctors about how long to wait before trying?? My surgery is September 11th.
