Bad abdominal pain/nausea
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Dani1491's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds like maybe you're having gas pain (only things for that are a heating pad and walking, walking, walking) and maybe some stomach acid. Did your doctor give you anything for it? Most do for at least the first 6 weeks while you're fully healing. But definitely call your surgeon's office. They need to know about this. -
Blah...my first stall...

OMG day 10 of my stall and I think I'm losing my mind LOL These things are horrible!!! -
My surgery is June 13th and this past Monday I started my 3 week pre op diet. From what I can tell it's easier than most but I am having a hard time with my food addiction. Dr has me on a high protein, low fat low carb less than 1000 calories a day to shrink my liver. I do my preop exam next Friday. My daughter's after school clubs are all having their last meetings which means she has brought home left over pizza, cookies, chips and soda. Now she is tired of junk but wants to save it for later. My addiction tells me one cookie wouldn't hurt and no one would know. The problem besides, being on pre op, is I never stop at 1 cookie ,,if I did I sure wouldn't be having surgery. We went grocery shopping today and I went into my room, turned on some music, and cried. Idk if I am having such a hard time now how I am gonna handle 2 weeks of liquids only after surgery. It has to get easier right?

How many stalls have you had in your journey?
DaisyAndSunshine replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I hope your stall has broken by now. Not sure of your stats so not sure which stage of the journey you're at. Stalls vary depending on various stages and reasons. -
Probably could be a stall. My last stall was when my BMI was about 33ish (last month, my month 5). Lasted 3 weeks or so until scale started moving yet again this month, month 6. Since you're month 10, I am sure weight loss slows down too closer to a year of surgery. Like the above poster suggested, try play around with calories and exercises and see if it makes a difference. It can get frustrating when you still haven't come close to the goal but hang in there and hope scale starts cranking again.

Hello and congratulations on your surgery date. What are you allowed on your pre op diet. Mine was 2 weeks but I was allowed small portions of lean meat and non starchy veggies. I had a lot of grilled steak and onion since I knew I wouldn’t be eating steak for a while.

Greetings! I'm a newbie here. I was approved quickly for gastric sleeve surgery. I have a surgery date of June 22nd. The doc wants me on the liver shrinkage diet for 3 weeks so it's T minus 5 days until I need to start. I would love to find hints, tips, and advice on ways to make it more tolerable. I would also like to find & chat with other RA sufferers who are utilizing VSG in hopes of remission, like myself. Thank you! Sent from my SM-N976U using BariatricPal mobile app

Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first

I think you took Arabesque the wrong way. It didn't seem to me that she was trying to take away from your accomplishment (she actually said "congrats on hitting your target"). It looked like to me that she was just trying to provide some facts about the origin of the 10,000 steps that Fitbit has engrained in all of us. Getting in 10,000 two weeks after surgery is a GREAT accomplishment and that you did it twice in one week is even better! I am just shy of 3 mos and my goal is 8000 per day. Most days I get it but sometimes I don't. Good luck with your recovery! -
What's your BMI? I guess it depends how close you are to your normal weight. Closer the goal, more the stalls from what I have read out here.

Yeah, just wondering if I’m consuming too much. For instance, for the past few months, I make it a point to eat about 1.5 or 2 oz of tostones along with some protein. They’re so good, and it doesn’t seem like too many carbs, but I may experiment and go without for a week and see what happens. Thanks for the input!

That’s Chris McGowan. He’s in his own practice now, but used to be with the group I’m using. I screened with his practice but he does a ‘Gastroplasty’ not gastrectomy and insurance companies don’t cover it…yet. And, I think one can only expect tops a 50 lb weight loss with his procedure. That being said, he is regarded as a top surgeon, and my family practice doctor mentioned him to me. As I said, he’s highly regarded and his former practice has the best of the best surgeons. His advice is excellent. I remember watching this video about 5 months ago when first starting my research. Today I watched it and marveled at how calmly he speaks about the ‘stall’ and I had to wonder how many times he’s had to talk someone off the ledge when they have a stall after going through all this.

February 2022 Surgery Buddies
fourmonthspreop replied to MeganMyers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Def understandable! I had mine on Feb 14th and find that it's way easier to Snack than to eat meals. I try to just be conscious about what I'm eating, portion control it and make up for my protein with shakes. My restriction is really kicking in these days and have been mostly just doing shakes and one small meal. I also dumped for the first time last week. It was AWFUL. I was traveling with friends and hadn't eaten anything all day. We went on a long vigorous hike (I was visiting the state parks in Oregon). We all worked up ah appetite and decided to get dinner after. There was nothing on the menu I could eat (I don't eat meat and can't have salad yet) so I ordered French fries because I dont have issues with potatoes. I had some fries and felt fine and then I tried my friends honey butter and omg like right after dinner I was dizzy, my heart was pounding, and I was so incredibly nauseous. We had an hour and a half long drive back to our airbnb and I just sat in the back and was like don't mind my retching that food was not a good idea. They were really understanding and offered to stop at a bathroom but I didn't even have anything to throw up. It resolved itself after I took a nap in the back seat but wow I felt like I was fighting a demon. I learned my lesson. I want to get better at eating my small meals so I don't end up not eating all day and then impulse choosing something that won't agree with me but lately the restriction has been in full bloom. I'm mostly drinking premier and Fairlife shakes and then having small protein snacks in between. I've lost 84 lbs since beginning this journey. The numbers are all quite motivating but now I just want to work on finding an eating routine that works for my crazy life. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I stall everytime I get my period. Then when it stops 5 days later I drop 4-5 lbs. This has happened every month lol but I know non menstrual related stalls are super common. Just keep eating in a deficit and drink a bunch of water. Sometimes I stall too if I'm constipated. I take some laxatives and continue on the losing streak. it could definitely be a stall - mine tended to be more frequent and lasted longer the closer i got to a normal BMI. Every time I'd think "well, i guess this is it...", and then the weight loss would start up again. if you're doesn't in another couple of weeks and you still want to lose more, about the only thing you can do is cut calories (or increase activity - or both).

Hey all, I've been doing great since surgery, (1/20) up until about 2 weeks ago. Everything I eat upsets my stomach. Don't know if there's anybody around thats had this surgery same time when I had it. Just wondering if there is and if you've had any issues. Seems only Nabisco Oyster Crackers is the only thing that doesn't bother me. Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I think I'm gonna reset my scale with the cat lol This stall stuff is for the birds!!!! -
I'm a few months in, on my journey. My insurance requires 6-months of nutrition visits. My last visit will be the first week of August. I hope and pray that I'll be able to have the surgery late August or September! I've completed all of my other requirements - psych eval, endoscopy, mammogram.
-
Just getting started on this journey. I had my first appointment with the surgeon and dietitian then found out that with number of visits my insurance requires I needed to make these appointments on different days and not in the same week. Will have to add one more requirement to be in compliance. I am under the BMI of 40 but I have co-morbidities that make me eligible for the surgery. I also have started the nutrition plan and use Isopure Vanilla flavored which is pretty good with fruit or vanilla extract and cinnamon. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

Food Before and After Photos
Arabesque replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
These are the worst garlic prawns ever. Bleack!!! (Not your prawns @kris77, they look delicious.) I usually buy cooked prawns & make a salad but due to poor supplies I have bought garlic raw prawns a couple of time. This week my only choice was this grocery store brand prawns. They were dry, tough & tasteless except for a synthetic chemical taste which I think was from the anti clumping agent they used. They also weigh 30g less than the name brand ones I had bought. You’re so lucky not to have these in your supermarkets. I’m going back to making my own garlic ones from raw prawns or just buying plain cooked ones. I’d bought two packs so these are going in the bin with the ones I prepped yesterday. -
Ok. I had my 4 week check up (via phone call). I told my surgeon that I didn't feel like my weight loss was going good. He agreed that it's not as good as it should be. After talking with him. I realize I'm not getting in my protein. I've been so focused on eating 4oz of protein. I wasn't thinking of getting 60g of protein a day 🤦♀️ What do y'all eat to get the full amount in? The shakes are making me nauseous now. I'm still on soft foods. So stuff like 2 eggs only give me 12g of protein. 4oz Refried beans only give me 6g. Im not sure how to get the protein in with out over eating. This is so confusing to me. Im a picky eater so this makes it even harder for me.
