  1. So I am aware that sugars and high carbs can cause dumping syndrome but what things cause anyone issues? For instance on a whim last night I tried about 6 small bites of mashed potatoes and some carrots. I do not believe the carrots were the issue but I suspect it was the mash potatoes. They werent thick but when I ate them I felt like I took a punch to the gut so I stopped eating them. I am 2 weeks post op. Maybe it was too soon for mash potatoes?? I did try scrambled eggs today with shredded cheddar cheese and I didnt have a problem with them I only had 1 egg. Interested to see what foods cause ppl problems and what they felt like when they had a bad reaction to something
  2. Hi y'all! I'm 3 weeks post op and feeling great! I'm still learning and mastering how to properly eat during my soft foods stage. Currently -- I can't help but wonder: Down the road -- does it still take, or should it still take, 20+ minutes to eat your food? Also, do you not eat and drink at the same time? Sometimes when I am eating my food I feel like I need to take a small sip of water to just help me to get my food down. Prior to surgery, I've always drank my drinks before my meals and during my meals, and I would run through several cups of liquids during a meal...so it's a big adjustment for me to not drink and eat at the same time. I'm trying my hardest to follow the "take 20 minutes to eat" rule as well as the "drink liquids 30 mins after meals" rule. I constantly have my timer out to help me. Do these two "rules" change when you're further along the journey? Also, is there a rule about drinking liquids 30 mins before meals? I haven't found anything like that in my notes and paperwork... Thanks!
  3. During the first couple years, I weighed at monthly follow-ups. This was less by choice as I couldn't fit on home scales. When I got to where I could weigh on a home scale, I did that every time I saw the scale for a couple weeks because of the novelty, then went back to only at monthly follow-ups. When the monthly follow-ups ended I only weighed at my annual physicals. Good luck, Tek
  4. I am 14 weeks PO and I use a small plate and the bowl that they sale in this website store, I find the bowl very helpful to measure what I am eating, I use a baby spoon and fork to try to control my bite, I just can't eat slowly (unless I have company and I am non-stop chatting) eating fast makes me feel bad but I cannot find a way to control it, I feel bad after I did it not while I am doing it. So at least I try to control the bite size.

Great job! I hate walking, like really really hate it. It is so boring to me. I ride my bike though. And, I was cleared for the gym at my 6 week follow up but I haven't started back.

4 weeks out and feeling great

So i had my surgery 4 weeks ago today. Today i decided to see how far i can push my walking as before surgery walking even 1,000ft i would be exhausted and in a lot of pain in my back. Today i walked almost 4 miles without issue. wasnt even breathing too hard, didnt need to take a break. Could have kept going but my feet hurt lol. Need to get me some proper shoes.

    June Surgeries

I just got my surgery date and I am June 8 as well! My pre-op testing has been done for weeks…I have to have a negative COVID test when I check in on 6/8. I’m having RNY, a massive hiatal hernia repair (surgeon’s words not mine), and my gallbladder removed. I’ve been doing the liver reduction in earnest for a week, I have lost 10 lbs and I will stay on it till surgery. Good luck to you! 6/8 will be here in no time at all. 🤗

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hello, I am now 8 weeks out from my gastric bypass surgery. I am 53lbs down and am finally getting some energy back. I did have a lot of set backs following my surgery and spent 2 weeks in the hospital most of which was in ICU. I am able to eat regular foods now but still don’t have much of an appetite. I don’t tolerate meats very well and I crave fresh fruits and vegetables which are sometimes hard to tolerate as well. I find I only like ice water and herbal tea. I can no longer drink coffee and I used to drink coffee all day everyday. I no longer crave sweets either. I’m amazed at how much my tastes have changed. Has anyone else experienced changes like these?

    Numbness

I dealt with this for about 2 weeks now on and off. Mainly in my calf area and also swelled. I thought it could have been a blood clot so i went to the ER last week and they did a ultrasound as well from the top of my leg all the way down and no clot. they said either dehydration and or just your body going thru changes with the surgery. tho my surgery was only 1 month ago. I did buy this massager for my calves and love it. I feel better after using it.

    Gout Flare-up, time-frame, and remedies

I am having the same issue after the first week I have been having flare ups in both knees and ankles. As of yet I have found nothing that helps me with the issues. I currently am on Allupronol and Colchicine for gout as well. I just purchased some tart cherry extract pills I will let you know if they help.

    Kinda annoyed and confused

No I dont believe you are. Hang in there! You are stopping when you are comfortable and that is what you are supposed to be doing. You've lost a good amount of weight in a short period of time, so failure; nah I dont see that. I see it as a victory!! 28 pounds down in 2 weeks thats awesome! Ive only managed 14 lbs and I tend to look at it as thats 14 pounds I couldnt do on my own before so to me its a win win . Keep doing what you are doing and your body will conform
  20. It's been a long time now since I had the gastric bypass. I've lost 187 pounds. I lost most of the weight in the first couple of years. I slowly regained some (70 pounds) beginning about 5 years out because I had trouble with my knees and couldn't exercise. I've lost the regained weight in the past couple of years by just gentle walking several times a week. I'm no longer obsessed with eating and just eat for nourishment. I weigh myself about once a month. I stopped going to my support group because of the distance after the first couple of years. I lived about 4 hours away from where I had the surgery done. There was a 2 years wait list to see a surgeon closer to home. One thing I regret about not going to the support group is that I became complacent about keeping up with my mineral supplements. Now my kidneys are damaged and I need a transplant. The transplant surgeon tells me I need a panniculectomy before I get the kidney transplant. I couldn't afford the plastic surgery and didn't want to jump through all the hoops to get it covered. But now, since I've been told there's a medical reason for doing it, I'm starting to look into it.
  21. Once a week documented for progress, but sometimes I sneak a mid week weigh in. haha
  22. 2-3 weeks. Currently in a stall so wont be weighing myself for a few more weeks lol

How much food do you eat after

I am about 7 weeks out from bypass. I eat about 4oz at a time, but it really depends what i am eating. Something things sit heavy and fill me up faster than others. Of those 4-5 oz, 2-2.5 are a protein. I am now off restrictions and can eat whatever my stomach will tolerate. I have tried tons of stuff, no steak and no lettuce yet as they tend to be harder to tolerate. But I have all kinda of other fresh veggies and lettuce is next because I miss salad. haha So far the only thing I had a problem with was a bite of pit beef meat, but that was a few weeks ago and I haven't tried since. I was so miserable and sick, I don't plan on trying again for a while (or ever). haha I am not a big pit beef person anyway so it isn't a big loss for me. Good luck on your journey!

    May 2022 surgery?

Hi all - I'm booked in for sleeve surgery on Thursday this week, so am currently on Day 12 of the liver shrinking diet. It's the third time I've been on the diet as my first two surgery dates were cancelled due to covid (my surgeon caught it, and then I caught it!) so I'm pretty used to it all by now! Just keeping everything crossed that there aren't any problems this time and it all goes ahead on Thursday! Congratulations to everyone on here who has had their surgery, and sympathy to all those who are still on the pre-op diets! So inspiring to hear all your stories, and hopefully I'll be sharing my recovery updates soon too! xx
  25. the first couple of years I weighed myself almost every day, but the (normal) fluctuations were getting to my head, so since then I've only weighed myself once a week.
