Differences Of "full" Liquid And Pureed
MyGastricSleeveLife replied to Failure's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Honestly, if you eat things slow enough and chew well or liquify them in your mouth more before swallowing there isn't much difference in the two stages other than "full liquids" are technically still liquids. I added more water to mashed potatoes to make them more watery and used them during my full liquid stage. I'm on pureeds now and I usually have tuna with mayo, ricotta with marinara, refried black beans, and greek yogurt for my main foods. I thought that cottage cheese was considered a puree, but a friend said our surgeon told her it was a full liquid. It's so weird how different people classify things into the different stages. I definitely notice restriction and fullness with the pureeds more than I ever did with the full liquids. Just go slow and try adding one new thing a day and see how you do with it. -
I go through days like I am so hungry and feel like I've eaten all day, and then others where I forget to eat and still feel full. Not sick or anything. I realized though that on the days where I feel I've eaten a lot; I have probably only eaten a small portion. Some days I just buy food but don't eat it. It's like an old habit/compulsion. I'll go to Bojangles and buy 2 wings and a sweet tea, or buy a kitkat or last week went to mcdonalds and bought a french fry and a hot fudge Sunday. At Panera, I might buy a scone, coffee, and Mac and cheese. As soon as I try a bite of any of these things, I'm satisfied (or repulsed) and I bring them home to my husband or the trash. I ate a salad for lunch today and picked up a cookie on the way out off of a salad/dessert buffet and brought it home. I guess I'm doing this as a "I used to love these!" Kind of deals, but it's so weird. And costly. If I do try to force myself to take a bite of say fried chicken or Mac and cheese, my stomach rebels as soon as it's in my mouth and can't swallow and I immediately want something cold and clean like watermelon or water. It's not even a head hunger or craving that makes me buy. I think it's habit. But then I'm like, what the heck? I don't even want this! I'll throw whole sandwiches in the trash or give them to the guys at work. (Who are vultures and like that I'm on a 'diet' so they can eat my food.) I don't do this a lot, but maybe once a week. It's like a comfortable blanket to just have it near me I think. I once had an eclair in the fridge for over a month and my daughter asked me if she could throw it out and I told her no. She asked why, bc it was practically moldy, and I told her that I like it there. Later, I wondered why. Is it bc when I open the fridge and take out a yogurt that I actually "chose" the yogurt over the eclair? Is it a reminder of where I've been, or of something I used to love and want it there like a blankie to reassure me? I think I like looking at it sitting there, and I smile to myself and shut the door. Like, "you don't have power over me anymore!! See, I don't need you!" Idk. A psychologist might have a field day with me but I feel like I did when I was having food funerals, only I was sad then and powerful now. On most days I eat a protein bar on the way to work or a yogurt, a cheese stick as a snack, chicken with nuts and fruit for lunch and then maybe a protein shake for a second snack. For dinner, I eat maybe taco salad, a cup of chili, or chicken salad. Something lighter so I don't feel heavy when I go to bed. Plus I'm not usually hungry by then. Watermelon, berries (all kinds) and cantelope are my daily friends. That's where I am on this 11th month, still trying to honestly understand my relationship with AND without food.

@@Beni I'm not sure where they get that number from. My doc/nut also told me to get 60-80 a day. With my issues from the protein shakes and my nausea from most meat, it is difficult for me to get that much. I try to have a Greek yogurt in the morning, some nuts for a snack sometimes, cooked veggies, deviled eggs, cheese....and I think I am ok. I don't think my body is like omg give me meat! Today I was going to try a shake again, just because I had a little bit if alcohol last night and I was feeling guilty lol, but I am just not feeling it yet. Idk, I had some ham and mashed potatoes for dinner yesterday and my tummy liked that, so maybe some more tonight, we'll see

Snack: tea and tried SF rice pudding. Gross. Tossed it. Dinner: round steak ( 1oz) 1/3 of a boiled potato and steamed veggies. Still very tired and have nasty dark circles under my eyes. :-( 12 weeks post op.

Breyer's No Sugar, Low Fat Question.

I'm 4 days out. On my list I can have yogurt like lemon light and fit dannon, thinned cream of wheat, in addition to of course, protein shakes and other liquids. So I took about a half cup of this vanilla ice cream which is totally melty because I'm having it so slowwwwwly. Honestly because of the 10 day pre-liquid diet this is the best thing I've had in 3 weeks. Question, how fast will I know if it isn't a wise choice? Will I possibly get diarrhea or nausea later. I seem to be tolerating it so well but of all the horror stories I'm not sure when I'd be out of the woods so to speak. Did anyone have this in the very beginning? So far I had 2 protein shakes (totaling 65 grams of protein today), some water and this. Thanks! -
Hey Diamond, I am praying right now for God to keep His arms around you as you continue through the process. And, we all know if He is for you, who can be against you? I'm noticing a difference now in my weight. I stayed stuck for a while there, but now I am seeing the scales go down! I'm also seeing a big difference in what I'm eating. I'm not doing too well with meats, I force them down, but they are not always comfortable. I'm eating more yogurt and spinach and taco bell's pintos and cheese. Can still handle salad ok. Drinking protien shakes and eating Protein bars for my snack. I'm having to remind myself its snack time, don't feel hungry that much either. I'm trying to eat five small times a day to boost my metabolism. I surely can tell a big difference since my last fill. When I go back at the end of this month, I am sure that I will tell the doctor I don't need any more fills for now. I am happy where I am. It is a little dissapointing not to be able to eat meat like I used to, but this is what I asked for, and I am so thankful to finally be seeing the results I wanted. Now if I could just make myself start excercising!!! That's what I need prayer for! thanks everyone. Hope you all have a good day and a good weekend!

January 2013 Post Op
one4ozzie replied to ready2smile's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Marla: I know we were close in weight a few weeks ago. I upped my protein to 80-90g a day, sometimes even get 100g in and now I'm at 166. It is worth it if you can do it. Upping has slowed the hair loss too. I also get around 700 calories a day. I am so thankful I had thick hair to begin with. Monday is month 4, Dec 15. surgery date. I, at first though, was a slow loser, but all in all upping protein has definitely helped me out. Plus I due walk the treadmill on random inclines at 4.0mph and I've restricted my diet to just yogurt, cheese sticks, veggies, some fruit, meat, plus almonds, occasionally. Oh yes, I also eat for breakfast special K plus protein. Plus before workout shake as well as after work out shake. Gen :-) 12/15/12 -
Quick & Easy Suggestions?
1poundatatime replied to chuswysly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only about 6 weeks out, but I keep the fridge stocked with cheese strings, meat, greek yogurt, apple sauce for snacks. If I need a quick meal that I haven't prepared for I have several cans of soup in the pantry (kinda high in sodium, but better than some options). I also set aside leftovers from the night before for lunches. -
January Newbies ! Progress ?
Misty_eyes replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks! I am still working on getting 64oz. I am still on stage II foods. My staple food is greek yogurt mixed with cottage cheese, soups, broth, and Isopure Zero Carb. If I eat 2oz, then I really have to wait to drink for 30 mins, otherwise I can feel pressure going down my stomach. Working on increasing my fluid intake, and it's slow but getting better. If i sip too much it feels weird, so it's a learning process coz I sometimes forget and gulp too much and then i feel sick. I am back to work so it's even more challenging, but I really try to make a conscious effort to drink. Two weeks ago, I could only drink 1oz/hr, but as you heal and the swelling goes down, IT WILL GET better...and I was in the same boat as you, and many people posted they are father out than us and it's a challenge too for many. Just keep trying HAve a speedy recovery! -

@@nancynew, I would start with yogurt, cottage cheese, or a blended soup. Going from all liquids to thick liquids was a good start for me. Scrambled eggs and refried beans were okay, but I could only handle about two tablespoons before feeling SUPER full and very uncomfortable. I soon realized that yogurt and soups just slide right through my new stomach and were so much easier to tolerate than thicker, more dry foods. Now I'm nervous to try anything new away from home! Good luck! -

I've been there before, loved the king of Prussia mall.. I had training up there 15 yes ago. I'm from Charlotte NC .. Been here most of my life. I was born in Louisiana while my father was in the army, but my family are from Michigan.Very interesting that not only have you heard of King of Prussia, you've been here before. And yes , first thing people say is " great mall". Lol. It is a great mall , not being much of a shopper , I'm not there much. I live about a mile from that mall. So your in NC, how nice. I hear how southerns are so nice and hospitable. So not the case with Northerns. Well I consider myself nice. Just saying we have reputation of being rude and move / talk fast. Anyway, I feel pretty good today. And I also am no longer taking pain meds. Today is 12 days out for me. Oh , going to grocery store today, getting ready for when I can start eating soft / puréed. I did "cheat" a little this morning. Had a bit of Greek yogurt. Went down nicely without a problem. Don't wanna push it to quickly.I'm not much of a mall person either. But yes it was a great mall. Yes us southerners are mostly friendly, and I know not all northerners are rude lol. We just love everyone down south, and want to make sure you don't need a cold glass of something for refreshment ????I started a day early with sampling puréed food and no issues. Glad to hear you had no issues with yogurt. -

I am finding this thread a little late, but it's nice to find so many people at the same stage after the same surgery. I had by bypass 6 weeks ago today. I have been doing phenomenally well until this week. I think I got a little too cocky with new foods and didn't think about introducing veggies that are naturally high in sugar. Two days ago I had peas and suffered a lot after just a few bites. And then last night I had a terrible episode after two bites of corn on the cob. I should have known better. Today, I'm taking a break and having just yogurt and protein shakes. -
If you mix cottage cheese with yogurt it makes more of a thicker yogurt. Seems to mask the cottage cheese taste some.

Hi everyone! I was sleeved on 10/14 and I have not burped since then even though I feel like I should be able to. I can get small little burps out but they feel forced- they're not like the burps I used to have before surgery. I'm still mostly on liquids even though I'm cleared for pureed food (I'm so scared I'm going to get a leak) but I have had pureed beef, Greek yogurt, and some creamed soups (not real cream). Will I start burping if I eat more pureed food?? It's getting kind of uncomfortable and I'm getting scared I will never burp again lol!! Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!!

Nov 2013 Sleevers Progress So Far...
Comstock replied to soonerorlater's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery on 11/26. I have lost 30 lbs from my pre-op diet til now. Finally, I seem to have lost the weight gain from the hospital. I am having alot of trouble getting my Protein and fluids in. Today, I've had 2 yogurts, 1 Protein shake, and about a cup of tomato Soup and about a half cup of thai ginger sweet potato soup. That's about 60 gm protein, but almost NO Water. It's really hard to eat as slowly as I need to. I tried the thai sweet potato soup because I was craving food, not something sweet, but I had a terrible time getting any down. It's soft but guess I am not ready for it. If I try again tomorrow, I will dilute it a lot. It's hard to go as slow as I need to eat, and consequently I often feel a lot of gas pain. I hope to get the hang of this soon. Feeling good, lots of energy, and have stopped pain pills today. That said, after an errand, I come home and collapse for a nap. Next week, back to work. Not looking forward to having a group lunch on Thursday when I don't know what I will be able to eat. Or what to say..... -
Any November Sleevers?
mhugueley replied to Ladybird06's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My surgery was the 11th. The day of surgery and the day after was clear liquids only. Then began full liquids which I am on for 7 days. I can have popsicles, thinned yogurt, protein drinks, broths, thinned cream soups, milk, water. Then starts pureed stage. At that point i can have refried beans, mashed potatoes, cottage cheese.... pretty much any beed with gravy as long as i throw it threw a blender. Ill be on that for a week and then I start soft foods for a week. -
I know we are suppose to eat Proteins first to help with the feeling of satiety. Truthfully I haven't really applied this except for dinners. Breakfast is usually yogurt - so no solid Protein there- lunch is salads, Soups, or egg beaters, or veggies/fruit so limited solid proteins. What proteins to you eat first for breakfast, lunch, and dinners? Does it really make a difference getting proteins in first?

Sleeved on January 17th and doing great. I sip my water all darn day. I have one of those huge plastic cups that holds 30 ounces and fill it twice a day. For breakfast I either have 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt with a little strawberry jelly mixed in to take the edge off. I take my chewy multi vitamin. Then I pore myself half a bottle of isopure over ice and alternate between that and water until lunch. Lunch and dinner is soup soup soup. My doctor instructed 5 achy long weeks of soup. I'm a connoisseur of soup. I can rock some progresso southwestern veggie soup zip blended to thin (and strained) with a teaspoon of plain Greek yogurt. You squeeze you eyes real tight and swear its tortilla soup. In the afternoon I take my calcium right after soup. Seems to make the vitamins go down easy. After dinner I sometimes treat myself to no sugar added, all natural juice bar. I've been walking and walking and went 1.6 miles today, proud of myself. I also dabble in a little bit of wii dance with my kid, but take it easy, not too much jumping. It's a journey and with this new tool we have, we can all do it! -

Hi all Sorry it's been so long since I last posted. I have been doing well, too well in fact haha. I've lost over 200 lbs and my Dr wants me to stop losing and drink high calorie shakes. So to go back, 3 week after surgery i had that contained leak and was doing better after that, then I got cdiff which was caused by all the antibiotics they gave me in the hospital. That was a pain, alot of diarrhea so they gave me more antibiotics lol and I also took prebiotic and ate yogurt and took t ok me to get back to normal. I should say during this whole time I had no appetite at all and had to force myself to eat. The loss of appetite is caused by the cdiff. So in the beginning of September I was getting my appetite back but slowly and this is why I think I lost so much weight so fast. Also during this time my gout kicked in big time and my Dr said I could take naproxen but limited and I also take allopurinol. Well I only had taken 3 naproxen over three weeks then they changed it to celebrex. So in November I was wanting to eat more, I couldnt. I could only eat soft foods or Soup. Mr Dr ordered and upper endoscopy and found the stoma had closed half way due to the nsaids. So they were able to open it back up at the same time and boy does it feel good to be able to eat better. The Dr thinks it might be closing again and to stop the celebrex. The reason why I was still on it was the Dr said that even though it's an nsaid it delivers it in a different way than normal nsaid are in the body. But it should be an easy fix again. Anyway haha that's how I've been, not a bad time. So any good suggestions on high calorie Protein Shakes? Any questions please ask. Haha hope you all are doing well too. -
I had yogurt 4 days after the surgery. No chunks and one little cup would last me an entire day. You put it on your tongue and let it melt. I could not have broth and it was either that or nothing. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Multiple lab blood tests, X-rays and then CAT scan (with yucky dye iv) and they ruled out lung clot. They did however diagnose me with Atelectasis. I guess a partial lung collapse common after abdominal surgery. Could turn into Pneumonia if I don't do what I'm supposed to. Big deep breaths, breathing into incentive spirometer (was sent home from surgery with this and I prob didn't use as often as I should have) And exercise until I'm winded. I have been walking 2-3 miles a day but at a slower pace (45-50 mins). They did not allow me to advance to the next food stage, Im still on liquids and yogurt. I guess this just got real. Breathing into a hose several times every hour (except when sleeping) for the next 7-10 days! It was so nice to read all your concern. I ❤️ this thread!
