I don’t have to do clear liquids till the day before. Right now I’m allowed yogurt and cream soups. But I also have to do a bowel prep, night before surgery.

I'm 7 weeks out and doing well. I feel like myself, but the first 4 weeks the meal plans were out of the ordinary, I found I hardly had any hunger but I made sure to meet my requirements for liquid intake and protein. I'm on regular food now and although I can't eat much, I can eat about 1/2 to 1 cup of food which allows a piece of meat, fish or chicken, salad, fruit, veggies, maybe a little low carb treat, a few whole wheat crackers with tuna or chicken salad, cheeses, lunchmeat, yogurt...and I feel so much better over 60 lbs lighter including pre-op weight loss! You can so do this!

10 days before surgery - having anxiety and doubts, help!
BLERDgirl replied to 2NewBeginningsxoxo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really like the Isopure Naked whey. Other than making things cloudy it has no taste at all. Best of all it can be mixed with hot or cold beverages. It mixes easier with cold. When mixing with hot do not cook it. I take a small amount of warm Water and a whisk and slowly mix the powder in with a whisk. Once it is well mixed and smooth I add that to my warm beverage or Soup. I've also mixed it with yogurt and even water. No taste but it was cloudy and unpleasant to look at. -

Finally got my surgery date! August 17th

I started on yogurt today. Kroger has a brand called Carbmaster which is pretty decent tasting. Out of about a 6 oz cup I've only been able to down about 2 oz. Still, feels good to be able to add a little of variety to my diet. So far it has sat pretty well in my sleeve. I also get to add creamy soups and have nice broccoli cheddar soup waiting at home I can try tonight. I had to take the stairs a few times at work today and that also has not been too bad. So far a decent day. -
I feel like I'm in such a weirdo in between space. I don't care as much about food these winter months. SAD? i swore this was when all the cooking would happen. Not for myself anyways. I'm like it's just food, I'm hungry. I'll just eat yogurt. I like yogurt. I need to get back in cooking track

I’m still frustrated. I’ve been working at increasing calories to 1000 to slow down the weight loss. I’m adding nuts and peanut butter since I can’t eat a lot volume wise. I tired half a protein bar. I felt fine but the past few days I have been having more BMs and dropped another pound. I’m thinking maybe it’s the increased fats? Any suggestions for slider foods that are higher calorie. I’m eating a ton of 4% yogurt, milk etc. at this point I’m tempted to purée meat to drink 🤢

Ironically, last week after like four bites of frozen yogurt my mom freaked out on me about gaining my weight back and how I needed to reign things back in. She was so over the top aggressive, it made me realize that I was not the only one who had an unhealthy relationship with weight. It brought me right back to my childhood. I quickly placed firm boundaries around this issue, which she is not doing well with ... but a healthy relationship with food is about me not her. And I will continue on this journey strong ... creating my new life, including healthy relationships with both food and people. Good luck to us all!

Wow! Great list girl. I heartily concur! Yogurt by itself for me=total slider. I eat it and look around for more! But if I combine with cottage cheese, walnuts/almonds, blueberries, peanut butter powder (yes I know), and sometimes 6g Fiber One--but at least the stuff before this that's listed...it sticks with me. But I keep quantities to 1/2c of the dairy mix. Salads and veggies (raw and cooked, especially over cooked) = total sliders. Pasta, rice, beans, "complex carbs" = total sliders Crunchy crap: crackers, chips, tortillas, including protein chips = total sliders Candy: sugar free gummy bears and sugar free strawberry twizzlers = total sliders (please don't ask me how I know) Soups/stews/chilis = total sliders Anything (animal/vegetable/mineral) with gravy or butter = total sliders Smoothies/protein drinks that don't have lots of spinach, a few berries, and a crapton of psyllium husks = total sliders ***** So basically here's my recap. Everything goes through me like buttah except dense, very lean protein and separate al dente veggies. Some whole nuts have a "stop" to them. From satiety standpoints: as long as I keep carbs low, keep carbs per meal low, and sugar per meals 5g or less per meal, then I can control my hunger and control my portions (except on salads...I eat 2x as much salad as I do meat + veg). Adding IF also helps me limit my hunger. The more I IF, the less hunger I have.

One of the greatest things about losing weight was feeling good enough about myself to go on an online dating site and meeting my wonderful bf. That is when "my problem" started. Every time I had sex, I got a UTI. I went to a urologist and he has me taking an antibiotic a few hours before sex. Now, the next day I immediately get a yeast infection. I can't win. I went online to find some sort of home remedy because it's really getting expensive buying all this medication. One of the web sites said to shove a clove of garlic up there and it will get rid of yeast infections. I am afraid to try it. I had read to put unsweetened yogurt up there, but that is not very easy to get it in there where it needs to go. Okay, end of rant.

2 Month Surgiversary Today! Protein Menus Needed
MIJourney replied to ShrinkyDinkMe101's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I do 6 mini meals a day. Some stand bys for me are hot choc /decaf (15g) 2 light mozzarella string cheese (12g) Chobani Lemon Greek Yogurt (15g) Boars Head Ever-roast deli Chicken 2 oz (13g) Al Fresco chicken sausage (14g). Morningstar Spicy Black Bean Burger (11g) 1 pouch tuna/1/4 c 1% cottage cheese (23g) Gortons Simply Bake Tilapia (20g) Unjury protein powder 1 scoop/8 oz skim milk (29g) and sometimes I add 2 T of PB2 which brings it to 34g (I only have a shake once or maybe twice a week now) I still often have a Quest bar each day for one of my meals since my work schedule is crazy. Each one of these standbys is 1 mini meal for me. I don't have room for anything after eating it. I don't eat them all on the same day but keep my cals under 900 for the day. I shoot for 90g a day. -
Were you guess as prepared as u thought u would be?
liannatx replied to jackiemc1987's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was fully prepared and nothing surgery wise or physically has really surprised me. I did however have an irrational full blown panic attack about 2 weeks post op. I was laying in bed almost asleep and was overcome by this feeling/idea that I would never eat real food again, and would be sipping Water and Protein drinks for the rest of my life. I went into a cold sweat, rapid heartbeat, tunnel vision, all out 30 minute anxiety attack LOL! I got up and walked it off, and that has been my only real moment of "WTF did I do to myself"... but it was a doozy. Ironically, I was already eating soups, yogurt, sugar free Jello and pudding at that time.... so it really made no sense. -
Skyrim Icelandic Provisions
RickM replied to elmatador's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Siggis is another brand of Icelandic yogurt - similar to Greek in being filtered and concentrated, so higher protein. Like Skyr, their flavored yogurts are a low sugar added, at around 11g total; compared to 6-8 g of naturally occurring sugar in unflavored yogurt, that isn't bad, and reasonable compromise between the usual national brands that can run 20+ g for the flavored varieties, or the usual "low carb" artificially sweetened types. The Icelandic yogurts also are nice in that they are not gaggingly sweet as most other flavored yogurts tend to be. -
What is it about yogurt that has you focusing on that for meals? Is it always matcha flavored? Or do you vary the flavorings and toppings?

Ok, so for one, veggies are pretty sliderish for me. And I can eat about 1 1/4c of food. So let's just pretend my protein goal at ideal weight (120lbs or 54kg) for a 5'4" completely average woman (defined by insurance charts used in WLS to compute data) is 65g of protein per day. 54kg X 1.2g protein/kg of ideal body weight = 65g of protein (needed to maintain optimal health) for light activity. 65g protein / 7g per ounce of weight on average = 9.3oz of dense protein by weight So now I know about "how many ounces" of protein are needed to make my protein goal. If I'm having a protein drink or protein drink as a coffee creamer, it makes things even easier. On days I do IF, I will often use a protein drink to up my protein levels toward my goal. I will eat 3oz of protein at a meal which makes about 2/3-3/4cup of food. And, I fill the rest with veggies to about 1 to 1.25cups of food. I'm getting in 1-2 eating windows--each lasting about 90 minutes. So I might begin the eating window with a cup of veggies (salad, raw veg, or cooked veg) + healthy fat and cuz they are sliderish, then I will easily get them down and out of me within about 30-40 minutes without much rise in insulin and almost no rise in bgs. I adore broth with leafy greens and mushrooms, or salads, or raw veggies with avocado/yogurt dip (Green Goddess). Then at the last 30 minutes of my eating window, I will eat my complex meal of protein + veg + healthy fat and can eat the full 1 to 1.25 cups of food at that time. I make my totals most days. The days I don't, I rely on autophagy to swoop in and save the day. By doing this I'm usually able to get close to 16oz of veg per day (12-16oz) + 9oz protein.

Just a quick food tip - most of us know that Greek yogurt is a good food choice after WLS (higher in protein, goes down easy), but many brands with any flavor have a lot of added sugar. Skyr Icelandic Provisions is a new label for me, with great stats: in a big single-serving container (250g), it has 130 Cal, 11g sugar, 2g fat, and 15g protein. And it tastes great! Enjoy!

I just mix things into plain Greek yogurt - like a packet of ranch dressing mix, for example.

Today is day 5 of 7 day pre-op liquid diet. Weight is 418 lbs. (Started at 569 lbs) I purchased FAGE Total 0% Milkfat Yogurt to eat 3 times a day to get the 60 grams of protein daily. (18grams per 6oz) Yesterday, I was unable to eat the yogurt due to feeling sickly. I instead placed Unjury Santa Fe Chile Protein Powder in chicken broth. For dinner, mixed a small amount of yogurt and Unjury Chicken Soup protein powder in chicken broth. Drinking water mixed with Crystal Light and Kroger Lite Pink Lemonade to intake minimum of 64 oz daily. Not hungry at all! Sometimes I feel strange, weak and sick stomach feeling, bad breath and gas. Surgery is Thursday! Excited to begin my new life and continue my single engine private pilot land certificate to soar above the clouds. Up...Up...and Away!

Suggestions for Protein-rich breakfast
JerseyGirl80 replied to Amanda61082's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost a year out and I still drink Protein shakes for breakfast because they're just more convienent and easy to get down in the morning. Most of the time I feel tighter so I sometimes have trouble eating anything solid until lunch time, but I'm not big on breakfast anyway. The band doesn't really allow you to eat in a hurry, if you are going to eat any kind of solid foods you have to find the time for it, it's very difficult to eat on the go, which is also why I normally stick to shakes. These are some breakfasts ideas I have occassionally: Chobani yogurt (you hate yogurt so this doesn't help) Egg beaters, sometimes I'll add some veggies or some low fat meat and cheese 2 hard boiled eggs with a sprinkle of salt with a slice of wheat toast w/ spray butter or just the eggs when you're on the go Breakstone cottage cheese doubles Kashi Go Lean Cereal with silk almond milk or skim milk (some of these cereals have 9-13 grams of protein per serving). sometimes I'll snack on it dry when I don't have time. Smart Ones (weight watchers) breakfast meals, a little high in carbs but still high in protein so once in a while its not so bad. You can pop the sandwiches or wraps in the microwave and just eat them easily on the go. But I would only suggest eating solid foods on the go prior to surgery. Hope this helps! -
Pre-op Gastric Sleeve Surgery Preparation - Grocery List
luv-a-bull replied to enixon2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My heating pad...not really a grocery item but it is a life saver! Also the jello and yogurt I loved prep I can not stand postop. Cream of wheat with a little butter and Splenda....yum! -
I'll be on regular food next Friday, the 16th. I feel I'm way past just liquids, pudding and yogurt.
-
Once you get to the eat all stage, Amazons own Amfit bars are great. Low cal, low cost and high protein. I always carry one in my bag. For you, just now I would recommend thick soups and protein yogurts.

Will I ever enjoy food again?
maintenanceman replied to Heatherhei's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
The first few weeks (months) post-op are not at all indicative of what life with WLS is like. At this point, 16 mo post-op, I can eat and tolerate pretty much anything I want. The thing is, my tastes have changed so dramatically. I don't crave garbage food anymore. For breakfast, I used to eat chicken biscuits, fries, muffins, and other junk. This morning, I had a bowl of greek yogurt with banana, berries, and granola, and it was the most delicious thing ever. I could force feed myself the garbage breakfast, but I wouldn't enjoy it. Over time, you figure out your new anatomy and reshape your eating to accommodate it. Even now, almost a year and a half post-op, I'm still testing things out, seeing what works and what doesn't. That's the whole point of the surgery... to force you to make better choices.
