    Terrible procrastination

You'll never lose weight living on Someday Isle, but you will get out of it what you put in and sometimes the end result surpasses even you expectations.

When Did You Start Intense Workout After Surgery

I was technically cleared to do anything at 6 weeks, but was told to focus heavily on cardio and building up fitness, and not worry as much about weights.

    Post Weight Loss

One thing I have noticed, and this is perhaps why you get treated differently when you're thinner, but at a normal weight, bmi of 23, I'm easily far and away the thinnest person in a lot of situations. Easily. People are so darn fat these days that even what we call "normal" is really very chunky. I dont mean that to sound judgemental or nasty or anything, just our society is getting larger, and that to be a truly normal weight and healthy BMI does indeed often make you stand out. It does make you the object of admiration and/or envy, and it makes people assume you're one of those freaking annoying bitches who stays thin without having to do anything, so often I find I get treated accordingly too. I also find I dont complain about my mummy tummy or muffin top to people becuase really, they're tiny and other people get their backs up assuming you're fishing for compliments or are terribly insensitive becuase you cant know what its like to be carrying round a huge gut. Its really rather weird in some ways.

    Minnesota Banders??

That's really cool you are so close! I have a now EX best friend because she had gained a lot of weight while I was losing it and she started distancing herself from me and just got plain mean towards me. I never expected that to happen because I have had some thin years before but something always happened and I gained all the weight back. I think some people see banded people losing the weight and taking control of their lives and it hits them in the face with the reality that they are actually losing control. It's pretty sad. But I love to know there are other people ready to support others while getting the support at the same time. I look forward to making a new friend!
  7. My doc's only requirement was that weight wasn't gained. I'm not allowed to gain anywhere over 5-10 pounds of my starting weight. Does your doc require a pre-op diet? That will probably get things moving in the right direction!
  8. Yes. One of the former members, restless monkey had that happen to her. She lost weight prior to the op but did it her way not by following the diet she was told to. She went for the op , the Dr "opened" her up and found her liver was too big/fatty so he closed her back up without putting the band on. She then followed the diet she was prescribed and got the operation a couple of weeks later. It is not up to us to try to second guess our surgeons. We are trusting them with our lives so we should be able to trust them enough to follow their instructions. If we don't understand or disagree with what they have told us we should discuss it with them. If we are still not happy then we should change to a Dr that we do trust and who's instructions we are happy to follow.

    Dr Carlin and I

From the album: Before, During and After

This was taken today (4/25/13) at the awards ceremony to celebrate that I got below a 30 BMI. Since I started the weight loss program at Henry Ford Hospital - Detroit, I have lost a total of 77 lbs. It has been quite the journey and the best part is my surgeon gave to me the best gift ever...life.
  10. Thanks Munchkinkan, Big Wave Dave. cookielover etc. . You guessed right. I was panicking this past weekend. It was odd. I suddenly felt like I was taking the easy way out and got quite down on myself about it. I started to tell myself I was weak and just needed to buckle down and diet properly. I think this was fueled by losing weight on the pre-op diet, seeing that loss actually gave me false hope that I could do it on my own..... then I cheated, and now I have gained a few pounds back, which reminds me of the yo-yo dieting I have done all my life and the fact that I don't want to do it anymore! I know I have to do this, but part of me still feels that I should be able to do it on my own, I guess that feeling is just culturally reinforced and will probably stay with me. But, it is Monday, and I am being banded on Thursday, and I will do it! And can't wait for the rest of my life to start! Thanks sooooo much for all of your support..... it is so helpful to hear from people who understand the emotions behind these issues! THANK YOU ALL!
  11. So I had the sleeve surgery October of 2014, day of surgery I was 343.6 pounds. I'm 6'1. At the bottom weight I was 166 (way to small). I'm gaining weight to the point that where I'm back up at the 250 area. I dont want to be a failure, I dont want to be the unsuccessful stories you hear about, but I just can find the proper mindset to get back on track. I'm only 30-40 pounds over the goal weight which I know is achievable with a little work. But I just get get back there mentally. If there is anyone out there that can relate, that has any ideas that could help me that would be grand. I'm so scared right now it's the WORSE time of year, days from Thanksgiving and Christmas. My mind set is all over the place, im disappointed that I've allowed myself back here, im scared what the holidays will bring....... I just dont know how to do it. If you read this and have a helpful opinion please leave it. You don't have to suger coat it, I cant take it blunt.
  12. Hello everyone, My group health insurance did not purchase the writer for the surgery. I can not do self pay.. or take out another loan. Has anyone purchased their own plan to cover it. I read there are advocates out there but have no idea how to find one. The weightloss center I looked at won't even see me for a consult/write a letter on my behalf without either $500 out of pocket or with insurance. This is frustrating as I have battled weight for most of my life. My dad and his sister have both had gastric bypass and medical conditions associated with obesity. I just want to find a way to make this surgery possible. Any info you guys could give me to assist with the insurance end of it will be appriciated. Thanks, Musicsings14

    Wondering???

Hello - I was banded 7/23/10. I began at 262 lbs and now weigh 228 lbs. The loss seems on track to me but I had my 2nd fill 9/14 and have not lost 1 lb since. I have actually gained and lost the same 2 lbs. Is this normal or should I be worried I am doing something wrong with my diet?

Did You Have To Do 6Mos Supervised Diet

I didn't have to do the 6 months diet. My surgeon wanted us lose 30 pounds (no matter what your starting weight was) to 1. see if we could do it and 2. to shrink the liver. Now, I only lost 16 pounds (shame, shame, I know) but he operated on me anyways and didn't even lecture me about it. Do I wish I lost the full 30 before surgery? You bet, because that means that would have been less weight to worry about afterwards. I wouldn't have made it if I had to a 6 month diet. Granted, it took me 5-6 months to go through the whole pre-op process, but if they added that in, I probably wouldn't have been able to do it. I commend anyone who can. Good luck to you!

  17. Insurance was approved for roux en y gastric bypass. Pre op is Sept 2. I'm so excited! I've waited almost a year. I'm also nervous, but I want my life back. My weight is controlling it and i need to make a change.
  18. I have been weighing option for surgery for a long time now. I'm one to do a LOT of research before making any decisions although I knew I would do a bypass surgery of some sort. Did anyone else weight heavily on the sleeve vs RNY before making a final decision? I have surgery this fall and I have to make a final decision by the end of Aug. I have several friends who have had the RNY but I don't know anyone personally who has had the sleeve.
  19. HW: 585 SW: 499 CW: 268 Age: 47 Height: 6'1 Total Loss: 317lbs Date of surgery: 4/6/2015 find myself not losing any more weight, not a pound, in fact I see my weight go up 1-2 pounds this week and eating the same.. Calorie intake: 1200 calories Burn about: 2000 calories Workout: Recumbent Bike: (3X) 15 minutes at 4-5MPH, maximum tension..... Nutritionist, stated I cannot lose anymore weight, I have no more fat to burn and any additional weight I will be losing will be muscle. 21. I have been banded since Nov. 10, 2005, I have lost 111 lbs. and have maintained it since July 25, 2006 and have been going to my weight doctor religiously. Of course until I lost all the weight that I had needed he was seeing me monthly. August of 2006 I was seeing him every 3 months to be sure that I was maintaining and also for not losing anymore, according to him. I just saw him last week for my 3 month check up and he told me, I guess I don't need to bother you much anymore and I looked at him and I said, what do you mean? He told me that I have lost 111 lbs. and I have maintained a loss of 105% of my BMI so maybe I should just check in with him every 6 months or so. I feel as though I lost my best friend. I looked at him and told him, you are my incentive to keeping my weight off and I will still be seeing you every 3 months. I don't know if I can learn to be without him. This has been such a hell of a journey for me and knowing that I have FINALLY kept my weight off for 1 1/2 years is an incredible accomplishment. It wsn't losing the weight, it was keeping it off. Can I trust myself without him to keep it off? I am so scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not only that................ I have 10 more sessions with my personal trainer and that will be the end of story too. I have been with him a year and I am terrified also not having him either. Will I know what to do without him? Will I cheat on my sessions without him? All these final habits are making me feel like I will have started all over again, square one, and lonely, and distrustful of myself. Does the fear of failing ever go away? Can anyone relate to me? Josephine OOPS ! I spelled the word "lies " wrong and sent it without checking my spelling.
  22. After insurance is approved the only thing required is setting up your surgery daye and any diet prior to the surgery your dr wants you on. The diet isnt to lose weight more so to shrink yiur liver to make the surgery easier

    Six month diet?

Before I started losing weight prior to banding, I confirmed that the starting weight would be what was sent to the insurance company. I wanted to make sure that if I lost a bunch of weight on my own it wouldn't be held against me. He said that losing weight ahead of time is great because it shrinks the liver and shows that you have the attitude required for the lapband.

Is it possible to lose too much?

Hello Ltnt, My husband also played football and has more muscle mass than fat, although combined has put him in a considerably higher weight range than desired. I understand your issues/goals completely. Like you, he also bought an additional year to convince himself it was time for help. I think the band will help you considerably. As for reaching a min BMI. I believe once you qualify for the band and insurance approves the procedure you are no longer on the watch clock per say. They prefer wl prior to the procedure to minimize fatty liver and to assist in a speedy recovery and this is per doc orders so it should not be an obstacle.
