    When did you start exercising

    Literally never--even now, more than three years after surgery. I just walked as necessary for my daily routine. And it didn't impact my weight loss at all--I was quite successful.

    It does get easier! I am on Day 10 of my 2-week pre op diet, and I had my first slip up tonight. I couldn’t stop thinking about all the food I couldn’t have, and I came so close to ordering a turkey sub, but then I settled on a frozen breakfast burrito in my freezer. I feel super guilty, but I’ve read stories from other people who have cheated so much worse and more frequently, so I think I’ll be okay. Find yourself a yummy drink mix to make water more appealing, and try mixing crystal light and ice with a vanilla protein shake in the blender - tastes a lot like a frosted lemonade!

    Jealous of the holiday snaps @kristieshannon & @ms.sss. Had lunch with my girlfriends today. Sunny but cold day. I was sitting under the outdoor heater & it was so hit like constant hot flushes. ☹️ Wore the colourful skirt & cardigan I bought a few weeks back & dug out some boots from 15 odd years ago. Pretty good colour match but I don’t know how I wore heels this high all the time then.
  5. I recently had my bypass surgery and wondered how soon after did you start working out? I was very active prior to surgery..trained 3 days a week and worked out 5.     No regrets whatsoever! I’m just almost 2 weeks post op. I’ve stopped taking many medications and lost about 20 pounds.

    Advice Needed!

    Beat way to see if a low carb diet works for you is to try it out for several weeks and see? If you see/experience what you like, then yay! If not try something else. Everyone will respond to different types of carbs differently. I went ultra low carb during weight loss phase, and lost the weight I wanted. BUT…I discovered later in maintenance that my carb intake made little to no difference in weight loss/gain/maintenance for ME. All that mattered was total calorie intake, whether these cals came from bread or steak or cookies. What carb intake DID make a difference for ME, was physical appearance. When i am low-carbing i look more lean and defined. When I’m not, I look more puffy and full. So while low-carbing makes my body (in my opinion) look nicer, my face gets gaunt-er…so its a win-lose lol. (AND i am basically still the same weight either way, eating basically the same amount of calories). But again, try it yourself and see (and also speak to your NUT of course ) Good Luck! ❤️
  8. hi my doctor has me on protein shakes for the next six weeks and she wants me to buy a chicken broth protein shake called unjury anyone has tried it before ? doesn't sound like it tastes good wanted to ask if anyone has tried it or if any other recommendations?

      Hi! Yes! I’m drinking Unjury chicken soup right now when I saw your post! 😃 Its very good, I highly recommend it! It’s not thick like a shake or soup, it’s more like a broth consistency but it’s much more flavorful than broth. It mixes easily. Unjury actually has French onion soup flavor, and beef and herb. They’re all very tasty. They have “soda” flavored protein powders too. (No carbonation or caffeine.) I really like the moonbeam mist flavor. I hope this help!

    5 days post op

    A recliner was what i slept in for the first 2-3 weeks after surgery. I could not do a standard bed. I wish i had an adjustable bed lol.

    Dreaded hair loss - question

    Um, nothing you put *onto* your scalp will ever stop hair loss because that's not how it works. Hair is dead keratin-based stuff, like fingernails. Your scalp skin is an organ with many jobs to do. How on earth would bathing that scalp skin in anything after hair has already extruded from the scalp help it not fall out? It's what is going on at the roots (or what went on there many weeks ago actually) that determines that I had been so happy not to have lost hair after my surgery but this week it has been falling out in handfuls. I've had this many times in the past after doing VLCDs etc. It's annoying but it'll grow back eventually. I hope that everyone who has a hard time with this (for whatever reason) sees it pass very soon xxx

    Thank you for sharing that. I used to weigh everyday…very toxic. Now I weigh once a week and it’s taken a lot of stress always. Great that you continued to lose past the year mark!

    Lol!! I’m going to up it a little and see if that assists in my weight loss. It is scary though! I see you mentioned that upping your calories during your last stall was helpful. I believe that it may work for me too. I’ll report back!
  13. I had very very little interest in eating food the first 3 MONTHS. My first 2-3 WEEKS i had zero interest. The aversion slowly lessened (as did the frequency), but there are still days here and there now where im like, meh. i’m 3.5+ years out. I will say though while I didn’t have any interest in eating the food, i thoroughly enjoyed cooking it, looking at pictures of it, taking pics of it, researching recipes online and in magazines, watching others eat it, etc. One of my favourite things to do (back then and to this day) is to read restaurant menus. Yeah, i know, kinda weird.

Has anyone else just felt uninterested in food i went thru so many ugh moments after eating were ive felt pains and uncomfortableness and nausea vomiting diarrhea and gas pains that im kinda getting scared to even eat anything and totally losing interest in meal prep or anything im only almost 4 weeks out is this my new scarey life how did you do in this phase is this even a phase idk Sent from my SM-N975U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

    TBH you are doing so well. 40lbs is a lot of weight to loose and you are on the right track. You should not change anything that your team has set for you. My dietician explained bariatric weight loss like a staircase. For every down step there is a flat step. If you track your food, { I use My Fat Secret UK} you know that you are in a calorie deficit. You can not fail. I am lucky if I manage 850 a day but I have had a difficult time since surgery. So am a little behind my peers. I once had a 5 week stall that had me worrying but the good people here put me right. Onwards and downwards.

    3 week stall

    Cut out 90% of the carbs you're eating. I was 355 on surgery day, and then I stalled out at 315ish for about a week. Eliminating carbs was my solution, and the only carbs I eat now is a bit of watermelon each day if I want a little extra something between meals. My stall was about 3-4 weeks ago, and now I'm down another 18 lbs since I adjusted my diet.

    I'm trying. Who knew the worst part of the surgery was the stall??? Not the liquid diet, not the pain, not the recovery, not the learning how to eat. The STALL!!!!! lol

    I don't really live anywhere that I can go walking outside (I live right in downtown, and if you know anything about downtown Denver right now, you know you can't go walking there) so I use my apartment complex's gym. I want to add inclines to the treadmill but my surgeon said no until I hit 6 weeks post op. I can't lift any weights (I only do 3 and 5 pound weights) until then, too. And no running or jogging until then. So I'm kinda stuck at just speed walking on the treadmill and riding the exercise bike. If that means I'm gonna be in this stall another 2 weeks, I might very well lose my mind lol But I'm happy you finally broke the stall!!! How much did you lose when you saw the stall broke?

    The stall has broken! And I didn’t even have to weigh the dog 🤣 changing up my walking helped. Added in trails with some elevation.

    3 week stall

    hey everyone. i had gastric bypass on march 3rd. I noticed that ever since surgery, every 3rd week I would stop losing weight for an entire week and then it would start dropping again. I am down 40 lbs so far but the last 3 weeks I havent lost a thing. Is this normal? I am getting nervous that Im doing something wrong

    Day 3 post op and protein shakes?

    A couple years ago I was having cosmetic surgery…an eyelid lift. My pre-op instructions were to start drinking Frog Fuel protein shots 2 weeks before surgery. I have to say, I healed so fast, it was unbelievable! I have absolutely no scarring and 3 days later the swelling was down, and I could go out in public without looking like I had been in a fight. I have pix, but honestly, immediately post-op, they are frightening. But, I’m going to order some and start taking it now.

    Is this a real stall?

    Sorry I do not have much experience to offer help but wanted to comment.. I do not know how everyone else is loosing but I have a very toxic relationship with the scale, I have been told to stay away from it but I cannot resist to step on every morning. The evil thing does not change, I have 3 different scales because I thought the first one could be damaged but seems like it is not. I have a reading on a given day and it only changes a couple of ounces back and forth for days or even weeks but then, when the scale decides I can see changes of 3 or even 4 pounds, I do not understand it I think is too much change for one day. Each time I read about stalls I think I live constantly in stall mode. Lately the stalls are longer and the changes are smaller only 1 or 2 pounds I understand that as the time gos by it will be slower to loose weight. This is confusing for me, when I used to do my diets before I could see the weight changing gradually but not this time...

    Yep, the closer you are to your goal the slower your rate of loss & yes, it can get so slow you think you’re not losing at all. You’re eating more, which you should be, and eating nearer the calories your body needs to function. Generally the first year is the honeymoon time when most weight if not all your weight is lost. Unfortunately, not everyone reaches their goal. It depends upon many factors including where your set point has reset to after your surgery. This is the weight your body is happiest at. If it is a long stall, sometimes a small tweak to your diet or activity can help. Do you still have appointments with your dietician? They may be able to make suggestions on what you could adjust & they’ll be best able to advise on an appropriate caloric goal for you. But consuming 950-1250 should still result in weight loss. I’m one of those unusual people who kept losing weight well into their 2nd year. I reached goal at 6 months & continued to lose, albeit extremely slowly, for another 11 months. I struggled to get to the 1300 or so calories I found I needed to stop me losing. BUT I’m not very active, am short & more finely built & in the downward slide end of 50. I eat a few more calories now. Many eat a lot more than I do to maintain at their weight. PS - Are you able to update your profile information on the left side?     I am the worst person to ask this question 😂 I am always petrified of upping my calories. Though after the last stall, upping my calories did help (currently consume around 800 to 950 calories). But I can't imagine going beyond 1200 during the weight loss phase. But that's just me and my past experiences speaking. Many here vouch on having lost weight by increasing their calories. So no harm in giving it a shot. Try increasing to 1300 for a week and see how it goes. If that doesn't work, next try reducing it by 100. If even those don't work, then body will do its thing and all you can do is continue working your diet and exercise hoping for the scale to move.
