    I'm in Freaking hell

Curves, I agree some with every post. But I can also relate with you. I was in a relationship for 10 years and it was similar to yours. I can tell you until I am blue in the face to leave him but I know from my own experience that you have to want it and be ready for it mentally and emotionally. I know this time is hard for you. But like someone else said is a very good idea to cause some distance between the two of you. You know that you don't want to be with this guy, but your afraid of being alone or maybe just needing some time to adjust. Either way.... reflect on what you need rght now and in one way or another move forward even if it is in small steps.

    Banded Tom!!!!!!!

i was banded a week ago... i got to the hospital at 630 am, went into surgery at 715am, and i woke up from my anestethia (spelled wrong, sorry!) at around 9-930. i made two trips the the radiology floor (shoulda been one, but it was two due to the incompetence of some "doctor" who didnt even no what he was looking for om my floroscope...*sign*) took a nap in recovery for 2 hours, and left at around 5pm. it was a one day deal, but o man.. i still feel it! yesterday and today are really the first time ive felt even remotly normal again. got up, walked around, drove a bit.. the first week will be rough, but after that every day you will feel better and better. ...just make sure you have someone to help you get up when you need to, your going to be sore. on a scale from one to ten, one being effotless, 10 being a major what the hell did i just do pain in my ass, id rate my surgery and post op week at a 7. coulda been worse, also coulda been alot better.. hope this helps, and dont be scared!!!! the first day is the worst, once you get through that, youve gone thru the worst part (pain wise) and remember, the doctors give you pain pills for a reason! no point in suffering when you can just sleep the pain away. thats what i did o, and good luck!
  4. I've been doing to the docs since July 24 (first appointment was made in June, but, as we all know, it's a waiting game). I have my endo (re)scheduled to 10/3 (the first facility didn't take my insurance 😠) and my pre-op with my primary on 9/30. My surgery is set (as along as all tests are good), for 10/28/19. I've lost 36 plus pounds on my own. I watch everything that goes into my mouth and I exercise. I also obsessively go on this site and facebook grounds about bariatric surgery and watch my 600-lb life when I'm not feeling motivated enough (I will tend to go for a nice, long walk after seeing their struggles). I read stuff every day. I feel like I'm obsessed! The date seems so far, yet so close. What is everyone else doing to prepare for the big day?

    Hunger--the time game

You quit smoking... that's gotta be tough. I've never smoked, but I'm sure that's making things 10 times harder. Maybe you could try some SF gum. I know that's kind of a no no for people that have had WLS, but you could just try for a day and see what difference it makes. If you find you swallow a lot of air you'd have to re-consider, but I think gum is a bit like the straw debate and I think it's more down to personal choice at the end of the day. HTH.

  7. It's weird, I was just sitting here on Monday lamenting about giving up an amazing dress that I have in a size 12. It's clearly too big for me, but it looks and feels great so I'm going to keep wearing it until it doesn't look right anymore. Anywhoooooo...went shopping for a dress to wear for a wedding tomorrow and found one that I'd seen at a high-end store for $229.00 at a different store marked down to $49.99 - I'd fallen in love with it at the higher price, but wasn't about to spend that much on it right now...it's not my wedding and I don't even know the people. I was about to give up but it was almost like the dress had a voice and called me because I saw it as soon as I turned in a different direction. I couldn't believe it, it was the same dress I'd fallen in love with 2 weeks ago at a different store - but dratz...it's a stinkin' size 8...I'm sure I need a 10. I decided to try it on anyway, my lunch break was toast and I didn't have time to go anywhere else. Alas! The size 8 fits great!!!! I was in such a shock I almost cried, but called my niece instead to tell her the news. I said "Guess what size dress I just bought"? She said "Size 8?" I couldn't believe she guessed it right off and asked how she knew? She told me that I'm little...I look little and she's known for a while that I was nearing single digit clothing sizes. The kicker is: I can't tell. My brain has not yet caught up with my body. I don't feel little, I don't look little, I feel the same...just more energetic and a lot more lively - but size wise, I hardly see 10lbs. gone when I look in the mirror naked. I guess my mind will catch up with my physical progress soon. This size 8 is a shocker though!
  8. I went with the NYU program. Dr. Ren and her husband Dr. Fielding are two of the top doctors in the country. They have been doing surgeries for over 10 years.

    Who Did You Tell?

Hate to say it but....I will soon be 44 years old and I don't plan to tell my parents until its all over with and I'm a skinny minni! I really don't want either of them to worry about me! The surgery is bad enough, but, going to Mexico to have my surgery is 10 times worse! No need to put them through all that until it's over! I told my best friend (she's going with me) and my boyfriend. I also told 1 person at work and swore them to secrecy!

    Tips for a newbie runner

I love to the 3 and 1..that is 3 minutes walking (at a fast pace, then running for three. I continue doing this cycle throughout my exercise. It is easier on my knees and I. Get a good cardio workout as well. 10 years ago , at the age of 50 I diid a marathon, (26.2 miles). Doing the 3:1 and finished it . If u find this routine is something u want to consider....buy a sports watch with intervals.. Set 3 minutes than 1 minute to beep continuously in that pattern . You can get a decent sports watch for less than $50.. Good investment. I just started going back to my 3:1 routine.
  13. Hi all, I am still planning to have surgery, maybe in a few months (cash pay, trying to save my pennies!). I have looked under the "file" for vitamin suggestions, etc. but don't see anything that answers my questions. I hope that I am not violating any rules here, but... My question has to do with the vits and supps that I am already taking. I usually order 90 days worth at a time. I am running out of some things, but I don't want to waste money and reorder something that I can't use after the surgery. Could you please review what I am taking now, and comment on what you think...and what I will not be able to/need take after DS surgery? I am having my surgery in Mexico, and my PCP knows nothing about DS surgery, so I will be very reliant on you veterans to help me get what I need to stay healthy! Thank you! Newbie

Hello everyone, all such great help and all newbies need support. I am hearing what wonderful information your are giving. Yes, you can eat what ever you want within limits. I have been banded over a year now and I am keeping off 110 pounds. I did stop drinking all soda, my choice. Our body just does not need it. It was about 2 weeks and I never thought about it again. I do NOT drink anything with my meals. This is so so so important. I stay fuller longer. I need to be on a schedule because I never get hungry. I need to nourish myself with REAL food, not too much, mostly plants with PROTEINS first. Eat small to be small. If it comes to you thru the window of your car it is NOT real. So important to practice small chewing. Putting the fork and knife down to rest and eating slowly are all great practices. We will eat less and get more full and more satisfaction from eating and tasting our food. I miss eating fast. I miss eating Large quantities of food at one time. I miss feeling over stuffed. I do not miss being morbidly Obese and having a BMI of over 40. I love my new clothes and my new figure and all the great comments I get now I am a size 10. I am so grateful to everyone on this site that helped me when I was a Newbie. Best wishes everyone imaluckydog

    calling all December 19th sleevers

My daily menu is nothing exciting. I usually have a Protein Shake and a half, and then something of the Soup variety for dinner. I've been digging light creamy Soups, because they have a lot of flavor. I don't think I've been doing 64 g and 64 ounces, but I've been doing about 50. That's what my doctor suggested. I have my 10 day postop tomorrow, and I'm probably going to be cleared for soft foods. I can't wait! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App When you have soup how much do you usually have? Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App I can drink 8oz of broth now. Been primarily living on premier Protein shakes, broth with protein added, G2 drink, crystal light. I've had yogurt once, still not something I actually like, and I've had cottage cheese and refried Beans with plain greek yogurt mixed in. On christmas I did have two spoons of mashed potatoes drenched in turkey juice and a shred of turkey that I chewed to death. I also have chewed some string cheese into mush too. I know these things aren't on my current list, but I'm careful to not swallow anything until it's mush. My doctor said I could have a scrambled egg with cheese on day 10! whoohoo.. and if that goes well I could also try some fish. She seems to be less strict on the stages than I see in other programs.

  19. So, I've been fat for most of my life. I've been fat ever since I was roughly 10 years old, but what I considered fat then is nothing compared to the state I am at now. After I got sex reassignment surgery, my metabolism went straight to hell and my energy levels fell. I didn't make any lifestyle changes afterwards, but the fact that I didn't was a part of the problem that resulted in the state where I am now. And gaining so much weight, I likely contracted sleep apnea due to my weight gain and also contracted plantar fasciitis, which makes it harder to be out and about without my arches screaming at me. I've tried so many diet and exercise programmes, from Bikram Yoga to Weight Watchers, from marathon training to calorie counting, from parkour to South Beach. In fact, I would have continued trying if not for someone in a chat room. They told me that I should get a lap band... to which I said "why? I can exercise, I have the discipline to diet, why the hell would I need a lap band?" We had a long discussion about bariatric surgery and I decided to do my research. I first considered the programme at Denver Health. After all, I didn't know about the programme just north of me in Fort Collins (and to be quite honest, that's kinda okay given the support network I've built up there) and I thought Denver Health was the natural place to go. That and UCHealth has had... issues with serving employees of the State of Colorado. So, I went to their support groups/medical weight loss classes (which were combined), attended sessions with their psychologist and saw their nutritionist only to get rejected because I had clinical depression. I feel the problem was that since the psychologist was not my regular psychologist and did not know me nor my support network well, that made her more skittish than she should have been. I then contacted the programme at Northern Colorado Surgical Associates (which is a part of the Poudre Valley Health System and their combined programme is called the "Bariatric Centre of the Rockies") and started attending their medical weight loss classes, their patient education seminar, got my regular therapist and prescriber to write my letter, and as of Tuesday, had surgery with them. Unfortunately, I don't feel that I can attend their support groups often (as their support groups are in Fort Collins and the transit back down to Longmont after 8pm is dismal at best), but the good news is that I have found other practices in the area which have support groups that I might be able to attend. I have a therapist that I really mesh with and I have a support network from both my church and my political party (Green Party of Colorado, FTW!) And I look forward to the future. I look forward to wearing all those cute goth/steampunk clothes I see in my Facebook news feed, I look forward to finishing up my transition by having facial feminization surgery/breast augmentation (which can only happen once I get to my goal weight, if my concern is having the best results), and most pressing, I look forward to the day I can waltz into the Denver Health support groups, look into the eyes of the nutritionists, psychologists, and that bariatric coordinator and tell them where they can stick it.
  20. So I went for my last visit with the surgeon before my surgery on 10/5. My test came back that I have gallstones. My surgeon said that he will be taking out my gallbladder during surgery. Is this common? Has anyone else had this experience? So nervous!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  21. I had a BMI of 36.1 and had a really speedy recovery. I don't work but I have 3 children (including 10 month old baby) and after a week I was feeling really well, out and about. I would take it easy though, for about 2 weeks, depending on what type of job you have.
  22. Hi Melissa.. I am 5'0 weighing in at my highest was 282lbs. I am currently at 277lbs. BMI over 50. I was going to post the same question and you beat me to it..LOL Anyway, I am scheduled to be sleeved on Oct 19. I plan on taking 2 weeks off. Hopefully that will be enough. Good Luck tomorrow.!! Connie :001_tongue:
  23. fairy, do you mind if I pry and ask how much weight you've gained so far? you're about 14 weeks ahead of me. I am only 10 weeks and up 6 lbs!! AAARGH!! This is frustrating for 3 reasons: 1. I truly am hungry when I am eating...NOT snacking to enjoy pregnancy. 2. My doc is super strict and only wants a 10-15 lbs gain!! How do I tell her I'm 1/3 of the way there?! 3. Exhaustion is still lingering, making it that much harder to exercise...it's getting a bit better, but nothing really helps.
  24. Hi, Congratulations on your band. I was banded July 11 and lost 10 lbs in 12 days. Pain and gas are gone. But be careful with the pureed (mushy food) Had a bad episode last night after two bites. Pain was so bad I though I was having a heart attack. Finally vomited (very painful) and felt better. Put myself back on fulls for a day or two. Good luck
  25. Okay, so before I had surgery I did c25k. I didn't do it the regular way, though. None of that robotic voice. I did Zombies, Run 5k. It's an app on your phone that helps you train for 5ks. It's kind of an extension of the original app Zombies, Run which is just as awesome. Why is it different? It tells a story. You are literally a character in a story. Not only are you running, but you'll do a few seconds of skipping, some squats, heel lifts, all to get yourself conditioned as well. When I did it, my stamina was amazing. I found myself running for ten minutes or more at a steady pace. You can also put your own music to it which makes it even better. I totally recommend it. Even though I'm three weeks post-op, I did week one over because it is so light (walk for 10 minutes, slow jog for 15 seconds, walk 1 minute...repeat).
