    I'm here to help...

Laura – Yep cleaning the garage was good exercise!!!! I know that when I do deep cleaning – I get sore muscles too – WTG !!!! I hear you on the inservice days – it seems that Teachers gets tons of them now a days… Yes – you do need a day for you… Lucky girl burns almost 3000 calories just being – I haven’t had mine tested – but I would say that if I keep my calories between 1500 – 1800 – I maintain the weight I am. I agree – I like dreaded girl and the other blond (reminds me of cindy lauper) and the last girl who sang Aretha – that last note was awesome !! – But I did like the blond curly hair girl who sang cold play - Did anyone watch Parenthood – On Tuesday nite – it’s Excellent !!! Jessica – Most of that weight gain was just water from the carbs in the FF – and sometimes life happens – the best thing you can do is carry some jerky in your purse – but again – that’s not really a meal but it will give you something to snack on Well you know I thought you were Julies DD – you do resemble her – I would love to have a mom like Julie !!! As to restriction 2nd fill – it depends on how aggressive your doc is – mine is very aggressive w/his fills – he figures you have a band and for it to work you need restriction (makes sense to me) – I got to my 1st sweet spot on my 2nd fill.. Good luck. Eva – Sorry you can’t sleep – I hit the hay at 10 – was asleep by 10:30 – and slept til 5:30… I really like you webinar – I suggested it to our support system thur my doc – I don’t go – but I am on their mailing list – What a nice sister you are... That was a great gift to get your sis.. Well gang – drive by post – gotta get butt in gear - CBL

    Really??

I Feel your pain! I am in the same situation as you! On my first appt. I was 227 lbs with BMI @ 40.3. The nurse cautioned me that if I were to lose 2 lbs I would not qualify. That was on January 26th. I completed almost all my tests except for psych. Two weeks ago at my follow up I weighed in @ 229 lbs and the nurse cautioned me again that the Dr. didn't like it when we gain weight during this process because he wants to make sure we take it seriously however I reminded her that if I lose 2 lbs I don't qualify. She just suggested with a smile that I keep the same weight. Now, two days ago my dietician appointment I am 234 lbs..OMG I gained 5 lbs in two weeks. The point is I am so nervous to lose the weight, gain the weight, and maintain the weight that its freakin driving me insane! The only benefit is that prior to my first appointment I had seven months of an approved weight loss documentated plan @ a weight loss center, fortunately I just have to wait for my psych appointment which is next week and then they will submit to insurance. Thank you for your post it makes me feel that there is someone else in the same boat as me. I wish you good luck on your journey and I am sure with your kids ball season on the horizon you will be too busy running around the time will fly!

    Kaiser Richmond Pre-op

I did in the past Tina, but I realized that my issues is not overeating it is the problems that triggered the weight gain. I will do individual therapy and see how that goes. Let me know if you decide to try out. It is funny that we help people in our line of work but we cant do the same for ourselves. There is an African proverb that states " A healer cannot heal themselves" that is so true. Yes Tina I would like her information. Go and get some rest! LOL.
  4. vicki, im glad u are okay. i didnt think u would be back online so soon but i am glad u were. they prob gave you a ton of fluids during surgery which is most likely why you have the weight gain...be patient...lol...dont be in a rush

    cant eat

Having a slight unfill will not cause you to gain weight. Being overfilled can lead to all sorts of complications and can also lead to weight gain, because we tend to eat slider foods that are generally high in calories just to get something down. Having a looser band gives you many more food choices allowing you to eat a wider variety of foods. You REALLY need to go see your doctor. We all want to lose weight rapidly, but being overfilled is sure to backfire. If your body goes into starvation mode, your losses will slow down to nothing and you will lose muscle mass. I was overfilled once. Getting a very slight unfill was the best thing I ever did. I was able to go back a month later and get that amount plus a little put back in. It is not admitting defeat or giving up. Nor does it mean your weight-loss days are over. Best wishes.

    Any January 2010 Bandsters????

CherieLynne, don't forget that Prednisone and cortisone have steroids in them and those can actually make you gain weight. I went in for a fill yesterday and had this talk with my doctor because I have been sick with bronchiolitis and I had to go on a steroid in my nebulizer twice a day and was worried about weight gain. So while on steroids your weight loss might not be as much as if you weren't on them...Just keep that in mind. I know my weight loss was very low while I was on steroids plus I haven't been able to work out. Good Luck!!

    Help!!!

I don't work up at sweat when I exercise to lose weight. My stepson (the coach with a masters degree in athletics) said to burn fat work out at 65% of your resting heart rate. This is best done on the treadmill or sitting bike. You need to do an hour straight at the 65% heart rate ( 117 beats per minute for me). If you do more, you start sweating and go into cardio. Cardio uses glucose out of your blood stream for energy and is used for preventing weight gain. The 65% heart rate method is using your slow twitch muscle fibers and breaks down fat already stored and uses that for fuel. Be careful to keep an eye on your heart rate, if it goes about 70% even for 1 minute, it means you transfered into the cardio range and you aren't going to get the fat burn effect.
  8. I would suggest you take some baseline measurements ie chest, waist, hips, thighs & arms. Once every wk or two measure again and use this for your benchmark...put the scale away for a while. My mom isn't a WLS patient but she has been battling weight gain for a while and in the past mth she's only lost 7 lb but 32.5 inches overall. You did not do this surgery in vain, you will be successful. I'm believing and agreeing in prayer with you.

    post op weight gain

Help!!!! i had my band fitted July 09 and managed to lose 3st (42lbs) I have had 2 fills (5mls) and the last one of those was back in Oct 09, unfortunately I have regained 1st and am feeling really depressed about. I know what i need to do as far as the eating is concerned but struggle to find foods and the time to consider my menu. I have an office job which obviously means i am sat all day which doesnt help with the exercise side of things. I invested in a cross trainer recently and am trying to increase my exercise although the going is slow. I am getting another fill done on Mar 8th and am hoping this will quick start my weight lose again. basically what i want to know is has any one else experianced this problem and found that having another fill helped. I am so worried that it wont and just need a bit of encouragement....:rolleyes2:

    Self Image

I've been "fat in the head" my entire life. I have not, however, always been fat; that came in adulthood. While I accept responsibility for my weight as an adult, I do believe that irresponsible adults in my childhood set the stage for this. Being fat was such a part of my self-image that the weight gain I experienced with children (and after) was very difficult for me to actually see. When I did see it clearly, I was able to lose. Maintenance was a real issue, though. So now I'm working not only on my weight, but also my head.

    Hypothyroidism??

I have been recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. A symptom of hypothyroidism is weight gain and difficulty losing weight. I have gained significant weight recently that I can attribute to this disorder and have had more trouble taking it off than in the past. However, I have always been heavy and was only diagnosed about a 2 months ago so I would not begin to blame this entirely for my weight issues. I have learned of this in the midst of scheduling my surgery and I have a fear that this disorder will hinder my weight loss after surgery. I am curious if anyone on the forum has hypothyroidism and if it effected their success. I would think at least one person might as it is a fairly common disorder. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.:thumbup1:
  12. I was dissapointed about gaining weight when I returned from the hospital. I stayed overnight because of my co-morbidities. I gained 4 pounds and hadn't eaten anything but small amounts of jello and the protien shakes. I was also scared this wasn't going to work for me. A week after my surgery I did my post op visit, and I was 20 lbs from the pre op visit. I think my weight gain came from the IVs they gave me while in the hospital. I'm now waiting for my first fill. The Drs office said anything I loose between now and the first fill is bonus. I've come down a few pounds since then, but not what I would like. I'm just trying to be patient.

    Dilated/stretched Pouch...:(

so sorry you are dealing with this.. I always get my fills done under fluoroscope so they can see whats going on with my band.. I had been told the same thing in September and at that time I actually was going on a long trip and had signs that I was actually overfilled.. In September I opted to take out all of my liquid out of the band and had every intention of going back and having everything checked out and seeing the dr.. well things happened and I didnt.. then I started gaining a little weight.. since September I gained about 20 pounds or so and with the weight gain I was afraid of going back quite honestly.. I was afraid of what they would tell me and was afraid that I would have to go back in and have surgery.. Well I finally bit the bullet and went back last week... my band has gone back pretty much to where it needed to be and I dont need to have any corrections.. I was able to get 3 cc's in my band and Im excited to be back on track.. Ive had enough of a scare to do what they tell me to I cant imagine 30 days either, but you can do it!! Keep your chin up.. just think how you'll feel at the end of those 30 days when you get the thumbs up..

3 days into the Pre - Op diet

Thanks but don't be impressed until I can actually keep it off. I'm sure that you and everyone else reading this could lose the weight if they put their mind to it. Unfortunately, if you are like me, you run out of steam or lose your train of thought without noticing and gain it back. This is going to be my third time losing over 100 pounds and the previous 2 times I gained it back even faster than I lost it with interest. That is so much more depressing than never having lost it at all. Hopefully if the band doesn't prevent me from gaining it all back, it will at least slow down my weight gain enough so I have time to notice and I can turn things around before gaining it all back.
  15. I was always larger than my best friend - not by much but that's the way it was. It didn't bother me, I never felt like I was competing against her. Sadly, she felt she was competing with me. Around the time I got banded, she was put on medication that prompted weight gain, so I was going down while she was going up. She told me I would die from the band. She printed out information off the internet (from questionable sources) outlining all the bad things that would happen. She went so far as to tell me to get it removed merely weeks after I got the surgery. I honestly thought my best friend would be there for me but she changed completely (or maybe she was always nasty deep down). I eventually told her to get lost and we haven't spoken since and that's fine with me. I'm not here to be anyone's 'fat' friend.

    Lap Band going Sleeve

I had mine from April 04, until July 09. I know what you mean. I gained 40 or 50 lbs as soon as that thing came off. It actually felt good to eat again. I'll be totally honest though. I'll bet 2/3 of that weight gain was beer. I love the taste of beer. Once that was out, it was open season on Sam Adams. Of course I can't like something like Coor's light which is cheap and low in calories. I have to go for pricey and fattening LOL I'm telling you though, the first 2 years were ok for me. After that I was in nearly constant pain (apparently from the hole it was eroding in my tummy as I was "bubbly" all the time and doubled over with painful gas). I hated the food getting stuck and still being hungry. Once I started to have that gassy discomfort and tummy aches, that's when I started to put weight back on too. It happened to coincide shortly after I became pregnant with #3, but I honestly do not think one think effected the other. Pregnancy does not cause band erosion :wink0: I went on to have another baby on the band (2 band babies) and was uncomfortable every single day then too as well as for a year an a half after she was born.
  17. Hey Sim78! Congrats on your pregnancy! I'm over 20 weeks now and haven't needed another unfil since that first one at 8 weeks. I've been really happy with my fill level. It's definitely looser than i used to keep my band, but it has been a good level and lets me get everything i need. And my weight gain has been really reasonable so it's still keeping me honest. I"m halfway through my pregnancy and so far i've gained about 7 lbs and the baby is growing great, so i'm happy!

    Talk about bad luck!

I'm sorry to hear about this too. If you were hooked up to an IV, then the weight gain could simply be fluids. It takes a good few days to pee them all out it seems. Best of luck to you.
  19. Lol!! Yes, we do have alot in common so to speak. Yes Prednisone is a the devil!!! Lol!! I was doing 90 mg per day for 90 days then slowly they would lower my dosage until I was off of it all together. However that is one of the things that they give asthma patients to help open up their passage way. It has no many great uses but the side effects of the drug is the worst!! Especially excessive weight gain.

I feel that the band over my GB is going to be great for me. I just wish Monday was alreay here. I am so sick & tired of all this weight!! Besides I can't fit anything and I refuse to buy any clothes in a larger size!! I simply refuse, especially now that I'm having surgery, nope I will wear whatever I still can get into (which is anything stretchable) so what it looks like the same pants everyday!! I tell folks think of my outfits as uniform....lol!!:lol:

  20. I havn't seen TOM in over 20 years, but blame some weight gain on lack of hormones.
  21. My Birth control sends TOM packing, but I blame my weight gain on the birth control instead of TOM. (Depo Provera shot)
  22. I would join you girls, but I have not seen TOM in many years!!! Thank heaven...but I still like to blame weight gain on hormones!
  23. You know what irratates me is how many people BLAME their weight gain on me.... I love to cook and all my friends know this... They will call up and say, "what's for Dinner/ I'm coming over"... Or when they come to visit they will raid the cookie jar I keep stocked for my BF and take baggies home with them.... I don't twist peoples arms or insist they eat the food I prepare... Yet, when we hang out with other friends or go places they say, "it's all Jennifers fault I'm fat.. Or It's all Jennifers fault I gained 15 pounds last year" My one GF who does know about the surgery is notorious for this and we had actually not even talked for months last year due to my busy work schedule and her divorce and move to the other side of town and she still tells people this... She's blaming her weight gain from 2 + years ago on me when I hardly even see her anymore... I probably saw her 5 or 6 times all of last year and most of that was Post op since I stayed at her house for 3 or 4 days to recover so my BF wouldn't know I had surgery... It really irks me that she does this... She is still thinner than me but won't be for long and I think she always wanted to be the thinnest/prettiest one of the group and is getting nervous about me getting close to her weight so she says it even more now that I am not super huger than her anymore and she feels the need to justify her own size which is more noticable with me getting smaller... I have to learn how to tactfully deal with these situations....

    Anyone gaining A LOT?

I agree that everyones weight gain is different. One thing I remember from being banded in pregnant is that I was sooo hungry the first trimester that there were times were I felt like if I didn't eat something soon I would eat the bark off of the trees, lol. I also remember going shopping at the grocery store and eating something by the time I was in the car. Early pregnancy gave me a voracious appetite, and then I was fine thereafter. As far as losing 30 pounds post delivery, I had lost that much by two weeks out. Not everyone does, but if you are retaining a lot of Water it can happen. One unfortunate thing I noticed after pregnancy is that it is a lot harder to get back into losing mode. Our bodies are readjusting. There is also some difficulty switching from the "I'm feeding my baby so I can splurge a little" during pregnancy back to toeing the line. The other factor is that you are extremely busy with a new baby and time to focus on yourself or your health is hard to come by. My baby is 8 months old, I weigh 146 now but I did weigh 138 prior to pregnancy. I was 188 on the day of delivery. At the rate I am going post pregnancy over the last few months, I am lucky to lose 1 pound a month. I am not exactly where I want to be, but I am OK under 150 pounds. Not gaining for me is an accomplishment in itself. Good luck everyone with losing those post baby pounds.

    Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

Very excited!!!! Just got my pre-op and surgery dates for March...guess that officially makes me a March Bandit! About me... my name is Lauren. I began gaining weight after I graduated high school back in 2003. I gained 100lbs in 4 years and another 20 between 2007 and now...I have topped off at 272lbs (as of my first pre-surgery appointment). A portion of my weight gain was a result of my PCOS (Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) and the other portion was a result of stress-eating and lack of exercise. My goal is to weight 150 lbs by my wedding in January...I'm not making any clothing size goals because I don't know what my body will look like (or how it will fit into clothes for that matter) after I have lost my weight. My overall weightloss goal is get down to 135lbs (which is comfortable for my height and age) but I do not expect to get there by my wedding...that will take a little longer :frown: Date of Surgery: March 12th Where Surgery will be: Palmyra Medical Centers- Albany, GA Doctor/Center: Dr. John Bagnato Seminar date: January 29, 2010 1st consult date: February 10, 2010 Surgeon-required pre-op tests (EKG, chest x-ray, labs) completed: March 2, 2010 Insurance-required Nutrition Consult date: March 2, 2010 Insurance-required Psych Eval date: None needed... How is surgery funded? Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arkansas Concerns? That I will not loose the amount of weight that want to before my wedding...I am committed to a gym as well as eating the things I should but I worry that it's not going to be enough! Reason for banding? I am tired of feeling FAT!!! I have not always been overweight and I have tried every other method of weightloss and come to the conclusion that I need a LIFESTYLE change and a PERMINANT solution. Lap-Band seems to be the best solution for me.
