  1. I'm skeptical about Genepro's claims. Early on I drank Premiere Protein shakes thinned with Water and I liked unjury.
  2. I have been liking the Genepro flavorless, it works well mixing it with stuff like chili or in my crystal light, it gives it just a slight taste and white color, but not bad at all. Much better than shakes, I can't stomach any more of those. I've tried the Isopure bottles and the flavors are pretty gross, to me...almost a medicinal taste.
  3. I swear by GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. You can add it to anything. 30 grams of protein for 1 tablespoon. Is it the texture or the taste of your shakes that is making you nauseous? If the texture, I agree that you can try making them thinner with more Water, and shaking or blending them with ice. If flavor is an issue, I love to add some PB2 powdered Peanut Butter to my shakes. Great flavor enhancer and it adds more protein. There are also high protein gelatins and puddings sold on BariatricPal Store that are good, but again, you can achieve something similar by mixing some Genepro (or other unflavored protein powder) into a s-f pudding or other food. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Struggling Bad!

Like I said I'm 3 years out and only wish I would have found GENEPRO way back when. I hardly ever do Protein drinks now due to using GENEPRO in my coffee. Plus I am able to take more protein in with my food. It WILL get better. Just hang in there.

Hiking & Camping VSG Food Ideas

If you are hiking sounds like you will need beef jerky, trail mix, and light items for food. The GenePro protein powder is about one T. Of powder and would mean x with most anything. I have never hiked, but I loved camping in the motor home. I need a cooler and more than I can carry, so good luck with your hiking!!!!

    It's done...although with last-minute changes

Starting week four! One more week and I will be one month post-op. Incisions have shed most of their scabs and are healing up nicely now and the fur's growing back When I received the instructions for weeks 3-5 I was told to gradually advance from ground meat consistency Protein, to shredded, and finally to whole pieces. This week, it's shredded meat! I bought some very good pulled chicken in the refrigerator case at Trader Joe's, and I've had it several times. Chews to paste consistency easily, and I've had no ill effects. Stomach seems like it's healing up pretty well, the ache of eating is decreasing gradually every day. I still find that it aches a bit more first thing in the morning, with Breakfast...but every meal thereafter is okay. I am up to 1.5oz of meat at a meal, so it's going well. That only works out to 5 grams of protein though, which is so frustrating. I do wish I could meet more of my protein goals with actual meat, but for quite some time I expect I'll be relying on supplements. The GENEPRO works well though, mixed it in with some chili and didn't even notice it. Having trouble reaching 64oz of Water every day, which was my target...but eating 3x a day takes away about 4 1/2 hours from drinking, since I have to stop 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after. The window the nutritionist said was 48oz to 64oz, and I'm getting in that window...but to get 64oz would require drinking just about every other minute, it's really hard to achieve. I'm not hitting 90 grams of protein either, I'm settling in there somewhere between 70 and 90 which is again the window they wanted me to shoot for, but I wanted to do the maximum. I'll get there, it'll just take time. My stomach has to heal up and be able to handle a little more meat. They say after three months I should be able to do 2oz of meat or more per meal. So we'll see how it goes. Interesting how much my priorities in eating have already changed. I am very protein-centric. Not to say that I don't still like having a little bit of carbs in there, but my focus in eating is protein and that's what I enjoy. I don't crave the breads anymore, pastas and things of that nature. Sugar is also not a craving, I think I pretty much detoxed from that after the month long liquid diet. So far, so good...but man, have I grown to hate the Vitamins I bought. The Bariatric Advantage chewable Multivitamin now tastes heinous to me, I cringe and almost gag when I have to chew that thing up and swallow it. Then I have to chase that with the also awful "chocolate raspberry" Iron chew. It's a brutal way to start the day. I can't wait until I can just swallow normal Multivitamins and not taste them, again.

    Struggling Bad!

Don't forget that part of the puree and soft food stages involves training your stomach, to some extent. It is recovering and it has to start functioning in a much smaller form than it has in the past. Your system has to sort of "recalibrate" through this process. So going in stages helps with that. If you jump right into soft foods, it may be a little harder on your stomach to process stuff. These stages are relatively fast though, one or two weeks...you can do it. Yes, it's sort of joyless, but you'll get through it. There's a time limit on it. Gettting that GENEPRO flavorless Protein has been a real help. I don't even do shakes anymore, I mix it in with Crystal Light, or with chili. After four weeks of shakes, I couldn't imagine buying another bag of that stuff.

    Struggling Bad!

Can you try a little refried beans mixed with GenePro? My husband and I never puréed anything . We mashed with a fork and took tiny bites. Chili was our favorite. You can add GenePro to a small bowl of lowfat chili. There are so many options. I wish you well and hope you know This is a phase and it gets wonderfully better. We are post sleeve three years, never struggled, still drinking Premier Protein shakes, still eating almost zero carbs, and it is just a way of life. I sure wish you the best!

    Struggling Bad!

Well HON you CAN NOT do without your PROTEIN!!! You will get very sick. With that being said, you can order online a Protein powder that is unflavored. It is the only one that I have found that claims to be unflavored that is true to its word. You can add it to anything you want, I add it to my "SPECIAL COFFEE" every day. If anything it makes my coffee taste even creamier!! So here goes it is called GENEPRO. It has 30grams of protein in 1 scoop. Did you come home with directions of what you can eat now? If nothing else add some GENEPRO to your Beef or chicken broth. Make yourself up some Soup that you enjoy, lots of veggies cooked until they are mushy. I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. You will have lots of problems if you don't get your protein in. I was told at least 60grams a day. Now I'm not sure about the DS but I had the RNY. But I have been told DS need higher fats. Have you tried Cottage cheese? One thing I did is I put sugar-free strawberry Jam in my cottage cheese, it kind of tasted like a Strawberry Cheese Cake. If you can't get more protein in please call your Dr or your Nutritionist for some suggestions. Good Luck

    Anyone Use Genepro?

I'm 23 days out and I use it. When I was in the hospital after surgery they had 2 different sleeve people visit me. They both suggested the GENEPRO. Both were over 1 year post surgery and still use it. One said she adds it to oatmeal every morning. There are 30 g of Protein in 1 tablespoon and it doesn't have any taste so doesn't alter the taste of the food. I put one scoop in my Carnation Instant Breakfast shake everyday Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
  15. I'm 2 weeks post op and having a VERY hard time getting this protein in and I'm getting tired of the Premier Protein. I've been reading about Genepro as a good option. Anyone else use it? If so, what do you put it in?

    Help! I think I'm dying

It can take a bit to feel better. Keep going slow and steady. It will get better. I can't say how long for you. Have you tried putting unflavored protien in your water?(if you are alowed) Once I started doing that, I began feeling much better. I use Genepro. Taking the pepcid can help even if you don't feel the acid. Hang in there it will get better

What Is Your Beverage of Choice?

Crystal Light and water. I've been mixing the Genepro flavorless protein with the Crystal Light and that works well. Was sick to death of shakes. I'm still struggling to get 64oz after three weeks post-surgery, because the meals take away so much of my daily drinking time. It takes a long time to get a 16 oz cup down. So until the stomach increases in capacity a little bit more so I can take bigger drinks, I expect it'll be a challenge.

What Is Your Beverage of Choice?

I pretty much drink flavored Water. I use the SF Crush packets, ORANGE AND GRAPE CRUSH. I also love Diet Peach Snapple Tea. I am also a coffee drinker, I have at least 1 cup per day made with my Keurig Coffee with added GENEPRO NONFLAVORED Protein. I love my coffee so it is a win win for me. I know some DR's say no coffee but mine never told me not to drink it. I have had no problems with it. I'm 3 yrs out and have been at my goal weight of 125#'s for 2 and 1/2 years.
  20. Got my order of Genepro protein, it's not TOTALLY flavorless but close enough! No more shakes, thank goodness.

The taller, thinner canister is Gen 2. I use it religiously in my morning coffee, like @Sai. I was wondering if a man can get his hand into the narrower canister? My first 2 rounds of Genepro came in the short, squat one.

@ShelterDog64 Ahh thank you! I didn't know how to tell between the two. My bottle is still the short, squat one, darn hehe.

  21. unjury chicken soup mix may be an option for you... I don't like it much, but many people here seem to. At least it's not so sweet! I also add GENEPRO to unsweetened iced tea because I can't stand the excessive sweetness of all the shakes either! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
