    Pureed Food Stage

I'll share the foods that are on my list of pureed and very soft foods, but some that spring to mind are: Nonfat yogurt (regular and Greek) Nonfat cream cheese (weird to think of just eating some cream cheese, but OK) I've also been eating unsweetened apple sauce and enjoying it, may try sprinkling some cinnamon on top. Also, I highly recommend this: https://www.amazon.com/Fresh-Start-Bariatric-Cookbook-Weight-Loss/dp/1623157730/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1515181665&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=bariatric+cookbook&psc=1

    Keeping it simple

Since I have been back on solid foods I have been keeping my meals very simple. Mainly because I have not wanted anything else. i see alot of people talking about complicated recipes (which is fine), but I really dont care much bout what I am eating. An average day for me consists of 2 eggs for Breakfast, usually fried(using pam spray) lunch 4ish ozs of turkey, chicken, tuna, and for dinner somewhat the same as lunch with maybe a small portion of veggies. In between I may have a greek yogurt, Protein shake or some beef Jerky. I actually love that it is this simple and I hope I can keep on the same track indefinitely. Anyone else having the same experience??

    Trouble with pre-op diet

I've been struggling too. .. It's when my children have their snacks that I tend to cheat. .. At work I'm fine at night for dinner I'm fine. For snacks my nut told me I could have sugar free jello and Popsicle. Also boiled eggs and yogurt. Maybe you could all of you could ask about those... That's what I did! Good luck!!

How Do You Know If You Need An "un-Fill"?

If you cannot comfortably eat solids, you need a slight unfill. It is not an admission of defeat. You NEED nutrition to lose weight. You just do. Sliders are yummy. But they don't keep you satisfied and you can get a bunch of calories down with sliders if you are not paying attention. The more times you get stuck on solids, the more you turn to sliders out of desperation. You don't have to have ALL the fill removed. A 0.5cc unfill can make a dramatic difference. I needed an unfill once. I got a 1cc fill. I was too tight for a week. I got stuck on string cheese, yogurt, and mashed potatoes. I couldn't take it any more. So, I got 0.5cc removed. IMMEDIATE relief! After everything calmed down for a month I went back and got what I'd had removed put back plus another 0.5cc for a total 1.0cc on that fill.

    Liquid diet

Hello. Today i'm 4days post op and the day i was allowed to move to the liquid diet (i think this is how is called- my dr calls stage 3 diet). Which consists in yogurt, blended/strained Soups, juice, milk, cottage cheese, cream of wheat/rice. So, my question is, could i cook some Soup at home? I had some condensed creamy chicken soup for lunch today (diluted with milk), and even if tasted delicious, im not happy as being canned, packed of sodium and chemicals.. I was wondering if i make my own chicken soup with veggies (or veggie soup) ican throw that in the blender and be the same as canned. (Plus the benefices of the veggies helping with my constipation?) Thanks for reading
  6. Yeah, I did the same thing!!! I had pudding.......but who knew!!!??? I would say maybe half that. You can always add more as you go, to get the flavor...and it is much easier than trying to thin it down again! I also used SF syrups, and peanut butter, even yogurt to flavor my shakes. It gets kinda monotonous, so variety helps!! Good Luck to you!! Kat

    I Don't Want To Eat

If you don't want that food than don't eat it. Wait till you get to pureed: fish, canned meats, cottage cheese, yogurt. I say eat what you like.

  10. I am having the same problem. Tomorrow will be a week since surgery and it has been a challenge getting all the protein in. I went to GNC on yesterday and bought some protein packs. I have been trying to mix them in anything I can because I am SICK of the protein drinks, they are starting to make me gag. I mixed some into the yogurt i had for breakfast it wasn't too bad. I will also try to mix some into my ice cream. At this point protein is my primary focus.
  11. i have actually found a Protein powder i like! it is chocolate-Peanut Butter made by Body Fortress. This is the breakdown: 2 scoops mixed w/about 12 oz of Water - adjust to suit taste: Calories: 270 Calories from Fat: 40 Total Fat: 4g Saturated Fat: 2g Cholesterol: 90mg Total Carbohydrates: 7g Dietary Fiber: 1g Sugars: 3g Calcium: 243mg Iron: 1.3mg Phosphorus: 175mg Magnesium: 59mg Copper: 0.07mg Sodium: 130mg Potassium: 470mg PROTEIN: 52g !!!! compare to Boost, Calorie Smart 1 bottle, 8 fl oz: Calories: 190 Calories from Fat: 60 Total Fat: 7g Saturated Fat: 1g Cholesterol: 10mg Total Carbohydrates: 16g Dietary Fiber: 3g Sugars: 4g Calcium: not listed Iron: not listed Phosphorus: not listed Magnesium: not listed Copper: not listed Sodium: 180mg Potassium: 150mg PROTEIN: 16g !!!! now - i do like boost chocolate - but if i can get double the protein in a 12 oz that i mix myself compared to an 8 oz - i'm gonna go for the 12oz drink - they also list the breakdown for 1 scoop on the container. i mixed a little powder in my greek yogurt, which is also high in protein, and it was quite tasty. the container costs approx $16 at wally world. i was drinking the tropical punch 'shots' from the same company and it would take me two shots to equal two scoops of powder and the taste wasn't a favorite of mine. hope this helps. please note there is a notice at the bottom: use this product as a food supplement only. do not use for weight reduction. i'm feeling ok with drinking this as i only have one or two drinks per day. lori
  12. Hi Bright, It's really hard to kick a sweets habit cold-turkey, so I'd suggest you not even try. My poison of choice in the sweets department is ice cream--which, thank goodness, is mushy so I didn't have to go without for long. Too much of anything creates cravings for what one is avoiding, I find, so my goal is balance. Protein first doesn't mean I can't have a small dish of frozen yogurt for dessert, if I want it. I'd imagine a WW-type "points" system would work just fine post-band if you assiduously take care to get in all your protein. Remembering that the quantity you can ingest will have been cut in half or so, you'll have to make choices based on nutritional priorities rather than just what your taste buds want at a given moment.

    Nausea question, please help [emoji30]

Antibiotics are really bad to wipe out your gut microbiota, so there could be some merit to their playing a role. Try eating yogurt, probiotics, etc. You really should contact your doctor and discuss this ASAP.

    Struggling to keep weight on?

I am struggling to find anyone else for support who is in a similar situation - whether it is because I am a rarity or that those of us with this issue don't frequent the support forum... I am not sure. I am getting frustrated over time and tired of working hard not to lose weight. I would never have expected this to be a problem! I had my surgery in May 2012 at 255 lbs and have been at goal for a bit over a year. I am currently struggling with a recurrence of depression, so the energy that I have typically been putting into getting all of my calories and exercise is flagging - I am getting treatment for the depression but it takes some time. I have worked very hard not to lose weight during this time and to keep my calories up. Typically I am very, very active. I expect that within a few weeks I will be feeling enough better to be back to exercising more. I usually exercise about 15 hours per week, taking one or two days off. Usually at least one day per week I get four to six hours of exercise, even as much as eight hours. I am an avid cyclist, hiker, skier, etc. My problem seems to be that I have a very high BMR of 2,000. So, I need at least that many calories on days with no exercise. Then, add exercise and I have days where I need 5,000 and even up to 7,000 calories in order to maintain my weight. Obviously those super high calorie days are rare, but I regularly have 3,000+ calorie days. Typically I am using lots of whole milk (at least 750 calories of whole milk per day) and on days when my weight has dropped below my comfort zone I start adding heavy cream or half and half. I also eat avocados, nuts, olive oil, butter, premier Protein shakes, etc. I also make green shakes - blended Protein powder, Greek yogurt, fruits, veggies. I use chocolate on days when I am desperate for more calories but don't have more room for real food - it's a total slider. I probably get minimum 1,000-1,300 calories from liquids and the rest from solid food. I have to choose the highest calorie foods out there - looking at a menu I will intentionally choose whatever has the most possible calories. My goal is to maintain at 130 when not working out and up to 135 if I am working out a lot. I was at lower weights initially (down to 123 at 5'6") and looked way too thin. At the lower weight I had too little muscle, was a size 0, and was told that I looked like a victim of weight loss. It wasn't a kind thing for someone to say but was accurate - at just a slightly higher weight I look far healthier and more proportionate. I am on the mobile app and have not updated my ticker from my lowest weight probably - but that is where I am at today and what I have decided is healthiest for me. It took a lot of effort to add muscle weight. When I was obese I didn't exercise and I am sure my metabolism wasn't this high. But now that I have lost the weight I worry that I will be thinner, fit, and set myself up for the same health problems by eating unhealthy foods in order to maintain my weight. I hear that weight gain is common at the 3 year mark. I also worry that the way I have to eat now in order to maintain my weight could set me up for problems later on. I currently weight myself regularly to make sure I am not losing weight rather than to make sure not to gain, though. I think if the depression would improve I would have more energy to pursue healthier high calorie food options. Looking for suggestions and other people in the same boat...
  15. Taking all my Vitamins. I really think I need to start the phase 2 pre-selected diet (yogurt, egg beaters, cottage cheese). I start day after tomorrow.
  16. Good afternoon band fans...I got my fill on May 16th-2007. I was told to work with the fill for a week and see what I feel like. I got some mixed reactions on this. I wake up each day--to eat a 4 or 6 oz yogurt. Then I take any meds I need to take. I can no longer take medications on a empty stomach. I am finding the big pain--the hunger pain each morning. Then some foods now is not my thing. I have since thrown up 3 times. I am shocked. I mean--2 out of 3 times--I had no food in my stomach. Anyway--yesterday--I called--my Drs nurse. The office says she will redo my fill on June 13th. The reason--my Dr is on a maturnity leave. So I will have to wait. It's ok...I am still going to hit the track--the road for more cardio on my bike. Maybe--It's a touch and go...Lee
  17. You can do it! I gained 14 lbs, turned things around, and have lost 2 over the past week or so. I lose slowly at under 1500 calories a day. Breakfast: 1 egg, 2oz lox, 1/2 cup fruit, coffee with a little 1% milk Lunch: Healthy Choice Powerbowl (low carb) or similar Dinner: Fish, vegetable, occasionally brown rice or carbanada low carb pasta Snacks if I am actually hungry: fat free yogurt, banana, 1/2 cup Julian's low carb granola, unsweetened almond milk, low fat cheese stick, etc. I take a walk/run with my dogs for about 2 miles a day and do Pilates 2x a week. I'd like to add back weightlifting when it's safe to go back to the gym. Knocking off the number of snacks seems to have been the main issue for me. I would track and see where the extra calories have snuck in and see what you can live without. Good luck!
  18. I am 2 weeks post op today and started on 2nd part of diet which consists of cream Soups, oatmeal , applesauce, cottage cheese, yogurt etc- but I've been hungry all day and sick of soups- so I cheated and had a cup of dry Wheaties Cereal :0/ I chewed it thoroughly and it went down fine - tasted soo good too !! But now I feel guilty and scared that I might have a bad reaction or something - I feel fine but my doc specifically said only liquids first month ! Ughh - this is not easy by any means ... Sorry just needed to vent guys :0( Getting back to routine and getting off this weight

    Puréed food

I started purees a couple days ago. Haven't tried them yet, but my plan has fat free refried beans on the list of recommended foods. Just make sure to puree them - they recommend maybe thinning them out a little. I've tried a scrambled egg twice. Takes me a long time to finish it. I love cottage cheese, so have had that (did NOT like it with protein powder mixed in) and it goes down well. Have also had chicken salad made with canned chicken and greek yogurt, whirled in the blender. Today will try some roasted red pepper and tomato soup with unflavored protein powder.

Should I be able to eat this much?

I have similar concerns. I can eat a whole serving of Greek yogurt and not feel full. I have seen people saying two bites and that's all. But it's early and I always knew that it's still up to me to follow the plan. I am having a harder time with fluids too that might help me feel fuller longer and not be tempted to graze.
  21. I'm at goal and had to go have 1/2 cc removed from my band today. Not because I keep losing weight, but because I can't eat solids......started about 6 weeks ago. It reached a point where I could only eat oatmeal, yogurt, and Soup........Asked my doc about it and he said that after removing the 1/2 cc, if it continues, I might have to have an x-ray because my band may have slipped!!! I asked how that was possible......I don't throw up......did I do something? The answer is NO! As you lose weight, your stomach gets smaller and smaller. The band is only stitched on the front of the stomach - can't get to the back of it to stitch. So the band can fall or slip at an angle - high in the front and low in the back, as you stomach gets smaller and smaller, which doesn't allow for a proper opening. So - if you do have a band slippage - it most likely isn't your fault.......well - it is because you've lost so much weight!! LOL One other thing - I'm self paid, but if I'm having stomach problems - he can go in to "look" around and fix the problem - and insurance pays!
  22. Unless your doctor specifically says so, it's fluids not water. I use 1 20 ounce bottle of Isopure split into 4 parts & mixed with water in my 24 ounce water bottle. So I'm actually drinking 52 ounces of water and 20 ounces of Isopure in addition to any fluids I may get from tea, coffee or soup. The goal is to not get dehydrated, flush your kidneys & help your bowels function better. Since the Isopure also contains 40 gems of protein it helps me hit my protein goal as well. I also found that eating more dense foods helped. For example oatmeal or grits for breakfast stuck with me more even if it was only a quarter cup. Lentil soup with veg crumbles was more filling than a veg soup. Adding yogurt to my protein shake & even a tbsp of almond butter. In small quantities these foods stuck with me better.
  23. Ladies, you really need to get your protein in if you want to lose weight. Mashed potatoes are not what you need at this point. Yogurt , soft cheese, protein shakes should be the majority of your intake at this point. Small sips and walking in between is what helped me get it in. And sip, sip, sip that water!

    confused

I went back to work 2 weeks after surgery and brought a tiny Rubbermaid container with 1/4 c cottage cheese in it. A lemon greek yogurt, etc...The yogurt took me a couple of hours to finish. Just a small spoonful at a time.
