Day 8ish- apparently what I mean by variety was a different fruit and veggie option and maybe a protein shake or bar. 😂 I counted both the shake and bar in my total calories for the day but may or may not eat them. One thermos has soup the other frozen strawberries and yogurt. The baggies are granola and roasted garbanzo beans. Took the leftover pizza with green beans and a salad with light Italian dressing. -
Dinner party on soft foods
FutureSylph replied to Melissa4444's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Take an insulated lunch bag (with freezer puck) in the car, packed with a spoon and containers of hummus, Greek yogurt, applesauce, cooked baby carrots, or whatever other soft foods appeal to you. Problem solved. -
I am 10 days post opp( week 2), thin liquids as well with cream soups, pudding, Greek yogurt. Soft veggies are not on my list till week 3 with Puréed but every surgeon/nutritionist is different. As long as you are tolerating it should be fine.

Ya I've been on soft veggies, soup, yogurt, pudding, juice ice chunks, since last week. I haven't had any issues, just have to go slow so as to not get over full Sent from my SM-G981V using BariatricPal mobile app

Meal ideas for all stages after surgery?

When I had lapband before, I didn't drink soda for like 3 months. It was my cousins wedding and I had a Shirley temple. It did make me feel tight with the band. I obviously know that the only way to stop drinking soda is to not buy it. My brother drinks it and he's not really overweight. (I live with family) but we also have diet sprite. Only my mom, me, and my brother really drink soda. Since they're not in need of losing weight, then I don't want to take it away from them, eventhough, we should all stop drinking it. So, there's that, I want to avoid it if I can. When I was on weight watchers, I didn't drink soda as much. I do have some crystal light packets and the strawberry lemonade ones are good. I know when I had the lapband, we could have diet iced tea and the diet gatorade.. if I can I really want to cut as much sugar as I can. I seriously want to do this right. It's annoying that people think ill still fail. I like yogurts and I find those to ne sweet enough. I eat the chobani Greek yogurts or dannon Greek yogurt. Shockingly I do like a lot of sugar free stuff. I will have to check those recipes out -

Day 5 and I’m pretty sure I’ll have leftover foods beginning week 2 as I still have a serving of the zucchini bake, 1 of the pineapple chicken, 3 of the soup, 3 of brown rice, 1 of congee, and over a dozen eggs and 3/4 a cabbage that isn’t slaw. Breakfast- brown rice congee with crispy chicken skin, 2 confit garlic cloves, spinach and an over easy egg. Lunch- coleslaw made with pineapple juice instead of vinegar and full fat plain yogurt instead of Mayo. Also, 2 pieces roasted pineapple, a mini bell pepper, and leftover crispy baked tofu. Snack- serving of granola. Dinner- a serving oatmeal pancakes, 1/2 cup baked sweet potato, 1/2 cup roasted garbanzo beans, 1/4 cup cucumber pickles and 1 1/2tbsp pickled carrots. Both the carrots and cucumbers were pickled in the same jar with sliced garlic and dill. SO garlicky! -

I had this problem at one time. The first key is fluids. I found water with flavor was the best. Get hydrated first. You might need something with electrolytes in it. A good one is pedi light they have it for adults as well. It's close to 2.50 a bottle. You are only going to use it when you are really low on fluids it has glucose in it ( its normallyin any drug store, walmart ect close to the over counter nausea medication). Another one I really like is "liquid IV". It's normally in the section with the flavors powders are in walmart or Amazon. I found I need the fluid on my stomach the first thing in the morning before I can tolerate protein. I drink about 4 oz but it will depend on you. I do not do protein shakes that are ready made. I found they make nausea. I use unflavored protein powder I put in water or hot tea or anything to get my protein. If my tea is not sweet enough then I add stevia . After I got enough fluids and my nausea got better then I could drink protein powder that had flavor. I had to add more water than it called for. I like hot coco with protein in 12 ozs of water instead of 8. Yes you need to wait 30mins after drinking to eat and 30 mins after eating . But you need to be well hydrated. Look at your urine and how often you urinate. I drink the 4 oz then I have the 12 oz with protein and water first thing in the morning. After the protein drinkni make I drink another 4 ozs. This gets me on my way for the day very hydrated since I did not drink anything for at least 8 hrs while I slept. Then I would eat cream of wheat, yogurt or water down oatmeal. Then sipping afterwards. Lunch I would eat a turkey sausage links or cottage cheese or two meat balls with sauce. Or baked fish chopped up. Now I have been adding soft veggies or beans for a snack. Sip between meals, wait at least 30 mins after eating. Eat only 2 or 3 oz of food at a time. Take small bits I used "diet tools" from amazon. Their spoon is the right size for a bit. Take 30 mins to eat. Bit wait a few minutes then bit again. It will get better. Listen to your body , we all are different. The fluid in the morning was the game changer for me. Plus using the Baritastic app to track everything and get my calories between 600 to 800 daily.

Meal ideas for all stages after surgery?
lizonaplane replied to Erin18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There's a recipe section on this website; it lists recipes and ideas for each stage. I liked refried beans with fat free Greek yogurt and shredded cheese at the beginning a lot. Then I started making a lot of recipes with ground turkey - I still do that, as it's easy to eat. Fish is good too. I eat a ton of cheese and Greek yogurt too. For drinks, I drink a lot of iced coffee and hot tea with milk and splenda, diet juice, starburst drink packets and other things like Crystal light (I find that these don't make me crave more sugar at all, and in fact help satisfy my cravings for sugar). My surgery center said we could have carbonation starting one month after surgery, so I drink diet soda now, but I let it go slightly flat as it doesn't feel good when it's really bubbly. I never lost my taste for sweets, unfortunately. I spent the first few months avoiding sweets completely, then starting eating small amounts. Then I went on vacation to Greece and went hog wild with desserts and had to rein it back in. Now I'm trying to eat things like fruit - much easier in the summer when fruit is in season! -
Just egg is a great egg replacement substitute for real eggs. I missed omelettes and scrambles so bad those first 4-6 months after my revision because eggs and chicken sat horribly in my pouch. Oatmeal with powdered peanut butter Non-dairy greek yogurt with mashed berries Scrambled tofu with nooch nut butters on toast or crackers (I was allowed toast in soft foods phase) Blend spinach and kale into smoothies chicken salad made with canned chicken- (I agree it’s weird to have people wait so long for certain proteins)

For the first few days all I had (and you will need) was water, jello, and clear broth. Actually, your clear liquid 2-day pre op diet continues that first week. Week 2 you can introduce protein shake, yogurt etc as you will be on a liquid diet. I'm still on my clear liquid and can't wait for Thursday to have yogurt.

Breakfast this morning- a take on akki roti (an Indian flatbread made with rice flour) made with zucchini, onion, and scallion with a dip made of whole milk yogurt, turmeric and garam masala. The $.45US is the cost for a whole serving and 2Tbsp of the yogurt dip so I ate closer to $.23US. -
As you note, programs differ, (and sometimes wildly!) both in their progressions and also in how they define food types (what's a liquid, what's a puree, etc.) and also in how much they trust their patients and in their own communication with their patients. We had yogurt and scrambled eggs in the hospital - if we could tolerated them, that was great, but if not, liquids were fine too until we could do more. As to the OP, it is concerning that at three months there has not been more progress. A stricture does sound like a possibility - that's not uncommon with a bypass (scar tissue forming around the stoma overly restricting things) and from what I have seen, they're usually fairly quick to do an endoscopic dilation (or two) to open thing up - twenty years ago, this was so common that it ceased being considered a "complication". With a sleeve, it is less common, and more indicative of a surgeon who hasn't quite got the technique down yet, so they may be more reticent about correcting it (if they know how) and just seeing if it will fix itself. I would be a squeaky wheel and get after them to address the issue, as this isn't normal.

I can still tolerate yogurt stomach wise, but it has started to smell weirdly metallic to me. Any flavor, any brand. I quit eating it and now have cottage cheese instead. 🤷♀️ -
Somewhat related - for a few weeks before i had my surgery, I watched what my female co-workers were eating when they were having lunch in the employee break room. There were a couple of them who ate what I would have called at the time a "normal" lunch. For example, and sandwich, a bag of chips, and a couple of cookies. But almost everyone else ate these tiny lunches. A thing of yogurt and an apple. Half a sandwich and a container of baby carrots. Yogurt and half a bagel. I came to the conclusion that this is basically how most normal, never-been-obese women ordinarily eat (unless they're going out for an occasional restaurant lunch, of course), and that those who ate the more substantial lunches were probably pretty active or blessed with great metabolism. It was pretty eye-opening.

Sopa de Frijoles Negros (minimalist version ) this is 1 cup and I ate less than half because I added the amount of salt that the recipe called for but it was too salty for me. Greek yogurt parfait (1 cup of yogurt) with local honey (fighting allergies) crumbled sesame seed brittle and 7 cherries on the bottom. -
Im so disappointed in myself. I have been craving foods that aren't good for you. Up until the last couple of days. I have been able to fight it off. But today I have eaten all day long. My food choices are not as bad as they were before WLS (most everything has Protein in it). but I can't believe I have eaten so much. Today I've eaten : breakfast: Greek yogurt w/ protein granola. Snacks all day 🤦♀️ (unknown amounts) I've gone back several times for a handful of granola and bbq Pork rinds lunch 4oz of honey baked ham and 2oz of mashed potatoes supper Greek yogurt w/ protein granola I never got any restriction feeling but I am so miserable now! I know tomorrow is a new day but I worry I've gotten the taste of junk and I'll release to my old ways

Well my surgery went well, took 3 hours due to severe scar tissue from a gall bladder surgery in 1992. I have to say that gastric sleeve surgery was much less painful than my C-section or my gall bladder surgery. Had me up walking in recovery about an hour after surgery. Then walked 1 more time after I was taken to my room. Walked 2 more times at hospital before I was released to come home. Was given a small hospital pitcher of ice chips last night. Then was given another one this morning. Was given 1oz of plain Greek yogurt for breakfast and 1oz of tomato soup for lunch. So definitely alot different than I thought food the 1st day after surgery would be. So far so good! Sent from my SM-G981V using BariatricPal mobile app

To count or not to count (calories)
lizonaplane replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm a CRA! Was it that obvious from my posts LOL? I am unfortunately not a fan of eggs, sausage, and bacon, and usually the yogurt has sugar in it. I usually can buy protein shakes at the local CVS/walgreens. It's really a lot better now, in terms of hunger. I try to eat a lot of fish - finally in the last few weeks I started being able to eat salad, at least mixed greens, if not romaine/iceberg lettuce. So, that opens up a lot. -

Tabularasa2018 replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I used to be a CRA, now CTM; I would pack boiled Eggs, chicken and freeze my protein shakes if I didn’t want to check a suitcase. If there was no fridge in the room, I would either request one before getting to the hotel or fill the ice bucket in the room with ice from the ice machine to preserve my food. The breakfast bar would also have sausages, bacon, eggs and yogurt. I also had the address of every Whole Food store or supermarket close to the hotel or site. -

Bariatric Mexican Pizza CRUST 1 package ground chicken 1/3 envelope of taco seasoning 1 egg 1/4 cup fat free shredded cheese Mix everything for the crust together and air fry at 450 degrees for ten minutes. Spray the pan liberally so it doesn’t stick. Toppings: 1/2 cup taco sauce 1/2 cup refried beans 1/2 cup fat free shredded cheese 4 pickled jalapeño slices, minced Once crust is finished cooking, add toppings. Put back in the air fryer at 450 degrees for five minutes. Once out of the air fryer, let sit for five minutes. Slice into 3 ounce portions. Top with a little fat free Greek yogurt and avocado of you would like. My husband LOVED this. I’m still on soft foods and this really satisfied the Taco Bell craving.
