  1. I am a floor nurse and went back 1 week post op from having gastric bypass. A huge mistake. I struggle getting fluids in. Fellow staff get angry due to me not being able to assist with lifts. I have not been able to meet my protein goals since returning which i think caused a 3 week stall. Thankfully I have been able to avoid dehydration but i really advise you to take the time your dr recommends. I didnt listen and I have been paying for it. Good luck.

    Weight stall

That's the 3 week stall, it's notorious and you should probably just keep off that scale for a couple weeks to not drive yourself nuts!

    Greetings from the newly sleeved!

Hi Brenda! I was sleeved on July 15th as well! I too have hit a stall this week. I'm 5'4" and highest weight was 256, 246 day of surgery and as of this morning, I am 234! I was averaging about a pound a day until this week. I guess it's the 3 week stall since tomorrow will make a full 3 weeks since surgery. I'm with you on those stomach sounds and feeling hungry! I'm doing well with fluids and Protein, though I'll admit, I'm relying on Protein shakes to finish off my protein goal if I can't meet it with soft foods. I'm excited for this journey! We will be posting before and after pics before we know it Congrats to you on your surgery and new journey!

    Before and After Pics

I posted this in the "sixties" forum but wanted to be wedged in between all these young beauties! Everyone looks amazing! I still have a long way to go, but I'm working this sleeve for all its worth. I started at 276 and was sleeved on May 20. Two and a half months later I'm at 225 so I'm 51 lbs down (after an infuriating 3 week stall). I'm 64 and now I don't feel a day over 61. ????
  5. You're not doing anything wrong. A stall early out is so common, it even has a name (The Dreaded 3 Week Stall). The body is just adjusting to the fast weight loss and lack of calories. Right now your job is to worry about hydration and protien, not calories. That will come a little later out. Give yourself time to heal, stay hydrated and get that protien in and the stalls will pass.

    How much weight? How fast?

I had surgery 6/30. RNY. Lost 24 lbs in the first week (including the 2 days liquid pre op). And..... nothing since. I've been in a 3 week stall. Everyone says its normal. I saw my dr a couple of days ago for my one month follow up. She said once I start taking in more calories it'll start dropping. I've gone into starvation mode and my body is waiting for more nutrition. Ok. I'll be patient...

    Frustrated

Yup, staying off the scale will keep your sanity! I of course never follow that plan but have learned not to get all e cited when the scale doesn't move. My longest stall was 28 days and yes, you will have many along the way. In the first week you are still dealing with all the fluids they pumped into your body before surgery. Give it another week and you should see progress. Anyone here of the 3 week stall? Sometimes it comes at 3 weeks, sometimes a week of two later but almost everyone has one. This is your body adjusting. You will have many stalls along the way. I don't call them stalls unless they last longer than a week and I don't lose anything during that week. You have to remember your weight fluctuates all the time, that is why you should weigh at the same time of day and the same circumstances every time you weigh. I weigh first thing in the am right around the same time every morning. Also, don't use the scale as your only barometer for success. You should be considering how you feel, how your clothes fit and measuring as well. Remember, you did not become obese overnight and you will not get thin and healthy overnight either. I personally use my clothing to assess my real progress. Good luck everyone! You are all doing great!

Why Am I Dropping Weight So Slowly?

You're doing just great! How much we lose at first all depends on a lot of different things....starting weight (the lower the starting weight, the less lost at first) age, gender (males lose SO MUCH FASTER!) . Yeah, a pound a day is great for the first few weeks. But don't expect that rate of loss to continue. Expect a stall soon (the dreaded 3 week stall) and after that, the weight loss happens at a more "normal" rate (2-4 pounds a week). Just follow your plan, keep hydrated, move a little, and you should continue to lose at a fairly steady pace. Try not to compare yourself to others, either. Good luck and congrats!

    FRUSTRATED

I lost 20 in the first week. Probably a big part of it was water weight from the surgery. Not a single pound since. I'm 4 weeks today and have been in a 3 week stall. How can I possibly not be losing? Tomorrow is my 1 month check up. Maybe she can tell me what's going on. And yes. So frustrating.
  10. Today marks 3 months since my revision surgery (4/30/15). -> I am down 46lbs. -> I hit the dreaded 3 week stall and it lasted two weeks. -> I now seem to be losing around 10 lbs a month. I can live with that. -> I do exercise and see a personal trainer twice a week. I am feeling so much stronger. -> My extreme lethargy went away around week 5 or 6. -> I do get hungry now, but only occasionally and it is amazing how a few cashews can make it go away. -> I do start my day with a Premier Protein shake to help boost my protein intake. I then eat every 3 to 4 hours, protein first then veggies if I can fit them. -> food does not taste the same. It is no longer exciting, which is a good thing. I can look at a menu and choose the healthy option, rather than what sounds yummy. -> I easily feel full and have no issue pushing my plate away. -> I don't care that I am wasting food. I was wasting it before too by stock piling it on my waist! -> I went on vacation for a week and came back 2lbs lighter! That has never happened before, even with the band. -> For me the sleeve is WAY better than the band. My only regret is that I did not get the sleeve sooner. I hope this helps people who are earlier in the process. I would love to hear from others who are around the same point in their journey.

    Stuck????

25 pounds in 20 days and actually only 23 days if scale hasn't moved in the last week? That is a lot if weight! Your body is trying to catch up and you are in the dreaded 3 week stall. Tons of posts about the science behind it. It will move again but meanwhile you are nearly ahead of me and I am 8 weeks out tomorrow. Be patient. It's a marathon not a sprint.

    The dreaded stall....

I lost 19 lbs in first 10 days post op, but I have not lost more than a pound or two in the last 10 days. I was sleeved 7/8. Def discouraging, but staying positive and hoping it will come off more when my body is ready.. I am more of a 2-3 week stall.
  13. I don't feel like I've lost fast but I've lost pretty consistently over the last 10 months. Just this morning, I went through my journal from the date of surgery to present. I noticed that I didn't lose that much the first week. The second week, I had a pretty strong weight loss and then week 3 - 6, I hit that 3 week stall and everything shut down. I remember at my 6 week visit, the doctor was concerned that I hadn't lost as much as they expected. From then on, my weight loss has been pretty steady. I agree with previous posters that you have IV fluids in you and not to mention that pain meds can shut down business in the bathroom. All sorts of factors there. These early weeks are no indication of how you will lose long term.

    June 2015 sleevers

I was sleeved on 6/25/15. My program starting weight was 235.4lbs. I was 223.9 when I started my liquid pre-op diet and on surgery day I weighed in at 215.1. This morning my weight was 196.8lbs. I'm very pleased with the way things are going for me. My first 2 weeks were pretty brutal on me (mostly mentally). I also hit the 3 week stall, it was a bit torturous. I just kept jumping on the treadmill for some easy walks. It seemed to do the trick. So I'm about 18lbs down since surgery, and 38lbs down overall. I'm still struggling with my mind wanting to eat more than my stomach can handle. I'm getting better everyday with that. I'm feeling great, and proud of the way I look, even though I'm a long way from where I want to be. Good luck everyone!!

    The dreaded stall....

As long as you keep doing what you're doing, it'll be fine. Your body is not magic, it is not above physics, it will follow endothermic/exothermic reactions and burn fat if you are sticking to the diet. The 3-week stall is a rite of passage. Consider it your initiation into the Loser's club.
  16. Okay ya'll. I've heard of the dreaded 3 week stall period your body goes through...but I'm having it at a week and half post surgery?? I'm 11 days post op and my scale hasn't moved in 3 days!! Discouraging, to say the least. But maybe if I'm not the only one this has happened to....? Sticking to my NUTs plan, not falling off the band wagon, keep on keeping on...I know all of this. Maybe my stall just came early. I was happy losing 1-3 lbs a day - who wouldn't be?!

    June 2015 sleevers

I was sleeved 6/20 and I am down a total of 31 pounds. I have been in a stall for the past 2 weeks. I knew the 3 week stall was coming, although I had hoped it wouldn't last this long. Hopefully I'll be able to kick it soon.
  18. Hi All, So for months I have been reading all of the posts on this board, rolling my eyes at the many three-week stall posts. I am 3 weeks tomorrow and I only lost about 1lb since last tuesday. I am anticipating that I won't lose much this week after being about 19lbs down since surgery! I just wanted to put out there that I am sympathetic to the stall thing. It is really hard especially the first time - you fear the weight loss will never pick up again. Funny, I don't remember this happening with the lap band for me in 2007...

    Labor Day Challenge!

239.5. I think I'm up for 3 week stall. Down about 19-20 lbs in 3 weeks!
  20. Thanks everyone for your comments. @@rp1980 - I was sleeved 4/15/15, how about you? Congrats on your success thus far! As you say, as long as we get there, does it really matter how long it takes? I saw a good quote today "Those who succeed are the ones who look in the mirror and see no change, but continue anyway, knowing they will get there in time." @@borg/assimilated - I am hoping we are slow and steady losers (for example, I didn't have the dreaded 3 week stall everyone talks about) so perhaps in the end, slow and steady wins? Congrats fellow April sleevers @@ZoeyBear and @@Mandyctr on your success!

    June 2015 sleevers

I had my sleeved done June 5th .. I had to do the 2 week pre-op diet but didn't really do a good job at it. 2 weeks post op I had lost 25 ( s.w 268 ) but now 6 week post- op I'm down a total of 36lbs (c.w 232). In between though I had like a 3 week stall where I wasn't losing anything. I have been following somewhat the diet and been slacking on the walking but I have been working around the house and using my kids as weights lol to compensate for it. I'm 5'8 so my goal weight would be between 160-175lbs.

    June 2015 sleevers

I was sleeved 6/10/15 and have lost 26 pounds since surgery day (35 pounds lost including presurgery loss). I had a 3 week stall that lasted about 10 days. Now it seems to be coming off a bit slower. I talked to my nutritionist just last Thursday and she said I should try getting my calorie intake up to about 800-1000 calories a day and this will help with the stalls. I was only getting 550-650 before. I'm trying to get closer to that 800 mark but its hard with getting enough Protein and fluids too.

    Only 0.7 in a week?

Omg! I totally went through that at the SAME time! 3 week stall I hope it doesn't last that long for you. But...I'm 9 weeks out and it's coming off crazy fast for the past two weeks. Totally normal. That's what my doc said when I called and told him about the no weight lose situation

    June 2015 sleevers

Hi, I was sleeved on 6/15. I did the pre-op for 1 week and lost 5 pounds. Oddly enough, i lost 16 pounds the first week, and hit the "3 week stall" in week 2. After that, it's been pretty smooth sailing. All told I've lost 30 pounds since the pre-op. My main focus is Protein. I drink 1 Isopure shake and 1 premier shake a day as a general rule, which is 80 grams of protein. I struggle getting all the liquid in daily. I'm an extremely picky eater, and the pureed stage didn't work for me at all. I either ate Soup, cottage cheese, or pretty much whatever chewed very well. Frankly I was surprised with my weight loss since I didn't strictly adhere to that plan, but it went well. I AM NOT ENCOURAGING THAT, I'm just sharing my experience; everyone's body is different. Just had my one month and the Dr. is pleased with my progress and moved me to soft foods, which is pretty much where I was already. I have found that 1/3 cup of food is about perfect for a meal I can't begin to tell how much better I feel with the weight loss. My recovery was easy, I feel like I've adapted pretty well, but oddly enough I am depressed, even though I feel so much better than before. I have a hair trigger temper now, which I did not before. My Dr. suggested that the worst of the attitude should be behind me by week 8, but he said it boiled down to 2 things, which I'd agree with: 1. I'm only intaking 500-700 calories a day tops, so even though I don't feel hungry I'm not giving my body much fuel, and 2. mourning the loss of my favorite stress reliever. Even though I'm not hungry I catch myself thinking like I did pre-surgery, and have to remind myself that I can't eat like that anymore, it's just not physically possible. This impact to attitude is a small price to pay though for a future that looks much brighter now than it did 2 months ago. Oh yeah, my new favorite thing is Cherry Antacid Soft Chews from Kroger. Never really had heartburn before, but I sure do now...

    Not losing weight

I agree with @@Kindle - stay off the scale! It's 3 weeks in. Relax a bit. I didn't notice a 3 week stall either. In the beginning I only weighed myself when I went to the doctor's. I had a 2 week f/u and didn't seeing him again until my 6 week f/u. I showed a loss both times. Instead I focused on eating/drinking enough protein, getting in enough water and walking/exercise. If you follow the program, the loss will happen. Just make sure to hit those protein and fluid levels.
