Australia sleevers
Beckster82 replied to bigger-on-the-outside's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hey! I'm in Sydney and am having my sleeve on Tuesday... how did you go??? How did you go on your preop diet? I had 3 weeks on it, a few hiccups but mostly kept it up. Am really hoping my couple of hiccups don't impact too much! -
So I decided weeks ago that 5/1 would be my quit date from tobacco! I completely forgot that one side effect of quitting tobacco is weight gain. So far today, I have been craving food!!! I’m only 2 weeks post op the Orbera. Do you think I’m setting myself up for failure? Maybe I should postpone my quit date do I do not have cravings...any thoughts, comments, or questions are appreciated! FYI...I use snuff.

Has Anyone Re- Gained After 10 Years, So Many People Have Said This Will Happen
clk replied to Trici's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Nobody has been tracking the results of the sleeve as a WLS that long yet. Give it a bit more time. I'm not certain but when I was researching I think someone posted a five year study - you might do some searching and see if you can find anything on VST about it. Regain is possible with any surgery. The big benefit the sleeve has over bypass (what most people are probably thinking of when they talk about regain) is that there isn't a honeymoon phase or window where loss is easiest. Once you're sleeved and healed, your capacity only increases a small amount. Unlike a short window where malabsoption is guaranteed, or a pouch that is likely to stretch (or a band that requires fills and unfills, for that matter), your sleeve is going to restrict you immediately after surgery and for the rest of your life. I am two years out and maintaining beautifully. I'm currently pregnant and while I have hormone bloat and the start of a rounded tummy, I'm not having a problem with weight gain (nothing more than I'd expect at this point) despite the fact that my capacity is increased now that I'm pregnant. All surgeries come with the risk of regain. Using the sleeve like a diet that will someday end is the biggest cause of regain I've seen - people just stop being diligent at goal and fall into denial about bad habits, ones they didn't fix while losing in the first place. That said, I have seen very few regain posts in the three years I've been here. I've seen plenty of "I got out of control over the holidays and gained a few but took it off quickly" posts, though. If you weigh daily in maintenance and actually learn how to eat like a healthy, normal person during the first few months post surgery, there is no reason you can't reach goal and maintain for life. ~Cheri -
My weight at my annual PCP appointment last week put me at 40 BMI, but it normally hovers closer to 38-39.5. I am making the appointment to see the surgeon but didn't know if that weight would be the determining weight or one at the PCP?

Hi, thought I'd take a few minutes and introduce myself. I was just banded on Monday, 12/27. For the most part I feel pretty good, but am still a little sore. Right now I am on a liquid diet for the first week until I see my surgeon next week. This is how I am starting the new year, looking for a new me. Happy New Year!

wildrose1966 replied to futuresize8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
2 days clear liquid, 2 weeks full liquid, 1 week blenderized and pureed, 10 days graduating from blenderized, ground meats, finely cut, apple sauce, crackers, hard breads, well cooked veggies. then maintenance. -
how did the surgery turn out. You probably feel like crap right now, but in about a week, you feel back to your old self. it took me about 5 days. I'm almost a month out and 20 lbs down and feel great! Good luck and happy new birthday.

Increased Diet and Hunger
newlifesils replied to newlifesils's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi LilPrincessS, I live in India! And I am a college going student with very hectic schedule! So it is really difficult for me to have proper diet! But despite of this I am trying my best to have balance my diet! But it is really difficult for me to do that! I am taking a break from my college of 5 weeks and will try to give my best shot during this time! Anyways Thanks for replying! -
Yep, you are doing fine. You will have starts and stops, but the inches continue to drop away even when the pounds are not. Your body needs adjustment times in between chunks of weight loss. Relax, and weigh once a week when you are in a stall, so you don't get stressed.

Rough couple of days
CanyonBaby replied to Stephanie Stroup McIntosh's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Time to get out the measuring tape!!! It will tell you of your success when the scales won't!!! You are just in a stall, where your body is swearing at you and throwing a major tantrum! Don't give in to it, your head runs the show! SO! What to do? Get your mind off it, go treat yourself to some window shopping, plan for what styles you would like to wear, try on some of those things. No one said you have to BUY right now, just start planning! Find out where to buy the things you would like, start forming a budget for it, if necessary, just get out and have fun! Good news that your hubs wants to do this, too, doing it together could be really fun! Having each other right there to support each other would be great. And if he has the surgery, too, then he would feel more secure about you. You would be investing in each other. Good luck to you both! -
I miss sleeping on stomach
TheProfessor replied to DAWYFE's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes dear @DAWYFE - you can and WILL sleep on your side/tummy again! I am a tummy-sleeper first, side-sleeper second. The first couple of weeks post-surgical, I slept mostly on my back with pillows. After the healing really kicked in, I found myself able to sleep in my delicious old comfy positions with no discomfort at all. Yay! At 75 pounds down, I now find myself settling in early for a good night's sleep on my tummy right away, with no discomfort or pressure on my back or spine. I roll over painlessly. :-) I was only 2 weeks post-surgical when I returned to tummy sleeping (my favourite!) Hope this gives you hope. You are doing great!!! -
6 weeks post op still feel blech
CowgirlJane replied to LaurieC's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I didn't feel human till about 12 weeks... seriously. My appetite came back in full force around 8-9 months an I had to learn to control it by eating low carb. This is temporary, you will feel better in time. Take advantage of the distaste for food, use food like "medicine" - this is that time where the surgery helps you the most in letting go of the overuse of food. -
That is great - good for you!!! I have my medical evaluation followup and psych eval appts next week, I am hoping to have a surgery date for the beginning of May sometime. I get more nervous/excited everytime I get one of my appts out of the way!! Keep us posted with how the Optifast goes!

Thanks so much ladies! When you sign up as a customer, does Watkins say they'll send you a catalog directly? If so, that's nice! They haven't sent me a catalog request, so they must be sending them for me. If any of you haven't gotten them in week's time, please let me know!

Welcome gprice. This is a good site to be at. I also was researching and found this site. Hung around for a couple of weeks and then said hi and haven't left yet. I was banded in May. I am a slow loser. Remember if you get the LB that everyone loses at a different rate. So don't get paniky. Just ask away and good luck on your research. If you get the band let us know.

I know what you mean! BUT stick to your preop diet to the letter (and even more importantly the first 6 weeks or so of the post op diet)! Don't cheat...it's just for a little while and then you should be able to eat most foods again, you'll just (as you get restriction) be able to eat less. This is the hardest part but hang in there so your liver will shrink and you will have a smooth operation! :tongue_smilie:

There are several symptoms that mono might fit into. Doc will run some blood tests to confirm. If you are that tired then you should of been in bed at the time you posted that post.....naughty naughty.....lol. Sometimes when loosing weight some toxins stored in the fat become dislodged as the fat is processed and used, and become free floating within the body causing sickly and tired feelings that pass with a few days or week. Getting proper sleep (8 hours a night) is very important during your weight loss stage. This is when the body does its repairs and needs the time to first off repair the body tissues used during the day and secondly fight off diseases and thirdly remove bodily wastes that have built up during the day on the cellular level.. Lastly taking a daily Vitamin (food derived is best) and making sure you take in enough Protein will help during your weight loss to minize these negative effects as well as prevent and help cure something like mono. Tell me what's on your mind! Got a question you need answered? Ask! Got something you want to talk about? Talk! Got an NSV you wanna share? Share! Sleeve related or not, I wanna know what you have to say! What's on my mind today is a tiny NSV from this morning... So, I've decided not to buy clothes until I hit onederland (35lbs to go!) so this morning I put on my size 24 work pants and had to pin them in two separate places! Holy crap batman! Also, the shirt I'm wearing today was too small two months ago. I've gone from a tight 24 in the waist to a comfortable 18, and a 2Xl to an XL in the top Oh, and my stall has finally ended! Halelujah praise the Lord!

I am 4 days post op and was wondering if it's okay to add fruit to your protein shakes during week 1 and 2? I'd like to add a banana or some strawberies for flavor. Would this still be considered full liquids since it will fit through a straw? Thanks, Susie

When Did You See Impovement On Co-morbid Conditons?
UXgrrl replied to Pookeyism's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds like people who have been suffering for years have a shot at real, sustained, non-medicated relief for the first time in their lives within months after this surgery! Has anyone noticed a change in fibromyalgia symptoms (better or worse)? One of the docs I spoke with while I was qualifying for surgery told me 50% of FMS pts get worse and 50% get better. He wanted me to do an outpatient 3-week long pain management course to deal with an increase in case it happened. Those didn't sound like good odds to me (I refused to do the course, I didn't want to spend three weeks going "ohm.." in a group setting ) From what I've read, most if not all FMS pts have a bad flare immediately after surgery -- no surprise, since any kind of heightened stress can trigger a flare -- but I can't imagine not having at least SOME relief. -
It's been too long since our last fun thread. Hmm, what game could we play here? How about best "busted naked" pictures. If you've never been busted naked, any "busted" story will do. Me: I grew up in sunny Southern California and spent my summers at the beach as the fat kid in shorts and big t-shirts. I never even owned a bathing suit. So when I bought my first home, I decided it's NAKED TIME for me. I skinny dip in my backyard, and if the neighbors don't like it, then they have no right looking over my 10 foot walls! One morning I was stading buck naked inside the house looking out the sliding glass door to the swimming pool thinking about taking a morning dip. Much to my surprise, three young boys were hoovering on top of the wall about to jump into my backyard (they apparently threw a toy over and were going to retrieve it.) Boy, you shoulda seen the looks on their faces staring at a naked 300 pounder!

Internal staples stay in forever. The incision stitches came out for me at my 1 week postop.

I'm rarely hungry. I eat or drink protein a few times a day. Solids are still difficult for me over 7 weeks post op. I'll see my dietitian tomorrow and will ask her about my challenges. By the way, check out my Facebook blog at "200lb March". I'm documenting my journey there.

Pre op and labs tomorrow...and a question
wannaBthinsoon posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wooo hoooo!! two more weeks after tomorrow. What are they looking for with the labwork?? I had labs done 5 months ago, and everything was ok. So, I'm not too worried. Also, I meet with the surgeon. Any tips on what to ask him? Anything I should tell him? Would this be a good time to let him know I need him to approve 4 weeks off? That is how much time my employer's Short term disability insurance will approve for this surgery. I have a sedentary job, but I have to lug a 25 pound laptop bag in and out of my truck. I've also been told by friends to take as much time as I can, because they came back too soon, and ended up having to use up all their PTO. I have someone covering my desk for me, so no worries there. I would like to know when the best time to ask that particular question is. I don't want to wait till post op. help!
