    Mexico or US...cant decide

Where did you go in Mexico? And what Dr did you use. I need a revision from lapband to gadtric bypass or sleeve. But im on a budget cant go over $5700. Just dont no where to go. Sent from my SM-N900P using the BariatricPal App For my VSG I went to Ariel Ortiz at Obesity Control Center in Tijuana. I am not sure you could get your revision with him for under $5700, though. You should contact OCC about their current pricing. There are many other excellent surgeons in Mexico, though that might be in your price range. My first suggestion would be to contact BariatricPal's Mexico coordinator, @@Bill Yanez. He could give you current information on pricing with the BariatricPal affiliated surgeons. August Sleevers

My band-to-sleeve revision surgery is August 24th! I was very successful with my lap band for the first 2 years, losing 165 lbs (even had skin removal)... ever since last summer, my band has completely stopped working and I gained back 30 lbs within 3 months. My surgeon's office and I worked really hard to see what the source of it was, trying several different fills - sadly I am not able to tolerate anything higher than 5.75 cc. Phentermine helped for a few months before my body developed immunity to it. I'm very grateful that insurance has approved my revision surgery and it's very surreal for it to be happening so soon. I've been bad with trying to follow the liquid diet (though nothing other than yogurt and gluten free crackers) and feel guilty about it. However, I had a very hard time sticking to it the first time around and really hope it won't impact me negatively as long as I don't have anything more solid than those options.

    Need a little pep talk

My family convinced me that a band would be better because it was less invasive and "reversible". At the time I seriously looked at the sleeve then finally went for the band in 2014. I just revised to the sleeve July 22nd. Wish I had just done the sleeve from the beginning! So much better! Don't make your decision based on someone else's opinion. Do what you feel is best for you.

    DS on Aug 25

I'm now 9 days post-op and also would love to hear others experience. FYI Vombatidae, Pinkfishlilly on YouTube had a revision to the DS about 3/4 years ago and dos a monthly vlog of her journey. I found it to be helpful, but I still have a lot of unanswered questions. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  6. Hey all! I'm new to this forum but a lot of the topics have really helped me so thank you!! I actually had a Band to Sleeve revision 6 days ago. Everything is going great so far.. No real pain.. Been doing clear liquid diet now since my surgery. I'm wondering when you all made that transition from Clear liquids to full liquid? My body is craving nutrition.. I must only be getting 150 calories a day right now. I know all surgeons have different plans but I feel like my body is ready to advance. I'm very weak too which is what bothers me the most. So far I've lost 18 pounds since my weigh in last Monday which is insane. Would love any advice I can get! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Surgery date 8/1/16!

Congrats on your successful surgery and continued weight loss!! I had my band to bypass revision done on 8/1/16 as well and have I've lost 17 lbs so far. I've been struggling a bit to get in all of my Water but I'm getting there. I'm still on puréed foods and actually start soft foods on Monday and I can't wait! Good luck as you continue on your journey. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. I don’t know what to expect or have many answers to your questions because I am in the exact situation as you are but I am able to provide some support. I hope this will help… I was sleeved July 2011 and at a weight of 315 pounds. I got down to 180 pounds by December 2013. I began having severe asthma problems in Aug of 2014. Over the course of little over a year from Aug 2014 to February 2016 I was required to have monthly steroid injections in order to control my asthma. I was not able to exercise adequately without having an asthma attack. I gained weight rapidly. Within that time I ballooned back up to 260 pounds. March 2016 my asthma doctor put me on my “miracle injection” NUCALA and my asthma is now totally controlled!! On 8/8/2016 I had the intestinal portion of the SADI-S completed with a different surgeon and just like you my sleeve was still in good shape and needed no revision. I am the first patient that my doctor has performed the SADI S Loop on and he really does not have reference to go by. I will be his first reference going forward. I agree with you, this "intestinal" revision is NOTHING like getting sleeved. I also have NO issues with drinking, swallowing, topping off, or stomach restriction associated pains. Since the sleeve portion was done previously my surgeon is allowing me to progress through the food stages sooner that someone who just had a DS or sleeve. At two weeks, Aug 19, I was progressed to soft foods. In two more weeks I can progress to full foods. I am taking this time slowly. I am sensitive to certain drinks and foods. I have to eat slowly and pay close attention to my body in order to gauge if I can eat or drink things. Smells, textures, and certain foods and drinks will make me nauseous. Protein drinks give me HORRIBLE gas. I have a daily potty bout. Every time I introduce something new into my diet I make sure I am at home just in case I need to make a mad dash for the potty. My surgeon told me that some individuals who have had the SADI S Loop repot less frequent smelly flatulence and some constipation. I have yet to experience that part. He explained that it is due to the length of the inessential tract that has been left. I am currently on the same caloric restriction as I was when I had my VSG years ago. The only difference has been my length of time on liquids and soft foods. In order for me to adequately loose I my calories will need to remain around 1000 and I will need to exercise daily. I don’t have any idea what the future holds as far as when we progress to foods with complex carbs in them. I personally am so afraid of winding right back at 250 that I don’t plan on introducing them back in. Don’t get me wrong, I love chocolate CAKE. But this time I plan on cooking a low carb cake for the family instead of buying and eating the one from Fresh Market. Congratulations on your revision. It is totally scary but we can do this!!!
  10. Hi AussieGirl - what happened with the lap band? You had sleeve surgery so just wondering why the band didn't work?I had the lap band and it failed after a few years, it kept playing up, everything would get stuck, even Water.. i started getting really bad pain near the port site.. i had port replacement and a band change and it was still causing issues, so i asked them to take it out... i couldn't live with the pain any longer as well as starving because nothing would stay down. I waited 12 months.. and during that time i gained weight, even though i was eating well and exercising, i had my metabolism tested and because of the complications i had reset my metabolism to a low point, so the doctor suggested that i get the sleeve to enable me to stay at that lower rate without being hungry... basically i can not go above 800 calories for life without gaining. It sucks.. and i might never get back down to my original weight... but i am finally losing... i am a slow loser, but i am hoping ill get there eventually. This is why i always advise people to increase their calories and not to starve themselves, because it can really screw up your metabolism. That sucks - I keep hearing of people on here having to get revisions to sleeve. I don't think I could deal with the lapband, simply because of the maintenance on it, and the port. Then again, the sleeve is permanent - no going back. I'm about 90% there when it comes to getting used to that idea - I too am a slow loser. Always was and in fact the ONLY way in my life that I could keep my weight down at all, was to work out 6-7 days a week, most days 2+ hours at high intensity, and eat 1200-1400 calories, even with all that exercise. If I stopped for a day or two for some reason - lbs were coming back on - that quickly. And once you marry and have kids, there just is not the time to maintain that kind of rigorous schedule obviously. I could eat better than I do, eat regularly cause I don't, diet AGAIN - but I just will not go through that again and then gain it all back again +extra. So I've put on more weight. Maybe it was you in here that said to keep increasing your calories after the sleeve to a point where you can top off at 1200-1400 cals per day? Otherwise you're stuck at low cals forever. It's encouraging to hear that you're losing again though!

    Need a little pep talk

@@Jane1979 - if you are considering the Band, I would check the band to sleeve revision forums on this site. It has a lot of good info from people who had the band and ended up taking it out. I originally went in for the band but my surgeon practically refused to do it and said he even wrote a letter to the FDA about why it should be taken off the market. I'm not saying that people aren't successful with it but just do your research. Some people like the idea of it not being permanent but a lot of people end up with permanent issues from it.

    Calories!

Hi all I know we're all at different stages and we're all going to consume various foods but I am curious about calories! As a band to sleeve revision patient and now 6ish weeks out, I am getting those horrible 'OMG am I going to succeed? Is my sleeve tight and small enough? Am I eating way more than everyone else?' thoughts...... I've started tracking calories and I generally have around 800-1000 calories but I feel like it's quite easy to get up to 1000. At weeks 2-4 I struggled A LOT with foods and just didn't really have the drive to watch my food intake and protein. Now, I feel like my hunger is coming back and that freaks me out. No heartburn or anything, and I've had my 40 grams of Somac on a daily basis, but I KNOW I feel hunger. I just get in a bit of a negative headspace and worry that the sleeve won't be 'viable' for me. I am very determined, yet am at a stall. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to know what you guys typically eat in a day too! THANKS

    Psych eval

I'm in the process of getting revision from Lapband to VSG and I get my psych evaluation on Monday. It's almost the last hurdle for me to move ahead. So ready to make this happen!
  14. I just converted my sleeve to the SADI-S in Mexico on 8/11/16. And yes, it cost a lot less and I was scared shirtless because of that. But thankfully all went really well, I got great care, and now 8 days later I'm home and down 12lbs- which I'm still in shock from. Because like u, before the revision I tried my damn seat to lose my regain naturally and like u I had the nerve to gain weight on a 800 calorie/day diet! I was sooo pissed and honestly concerned that meant this revision would not work. Who knows what tomorrow holds, I'm still terrified of regain and/or not losing. I don't think I'll really believe it's working until I'm back down to my old goal weight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. I was originally sleeved 9/2010 and lost 105. The past 2 years I regained about 40 of those pounds and was just not okay with it. On 8/11/2016 I had the intestinal portion of the SADI-S completed- my sleeve was still in good shape and needed no revision. I'm now 8 days post-op from my SADI-S Revision and down 12 pounds (I know, holy crap). Because previously I had the sleeve, that is the only reference I have to go on in terms of what to expect post-op. However, it's become clear to me that this "intestinal" revision is NOTHING like getting sleeved. I have NO issues with drinking, swallowing, topping off, or stomach restriction associated pains. I do seem sensitive to some things, like drinks or food that have sugar added, but it's still too early for me to know all the likely sensitivities. Also I've only had 2 pooty bouts, and yes, quite a bit of flatulence. And this is part of that unknown for me. What gives u gas? How many calories should I be consuming? What's gonna make me pooty, or throw up, or have horrible diarrhea? Does the gas/pooty/diarrhea happen right after I eat something or does it take a few hours, a day? Should I be focusing on fats as well as Proteins? Someone I follow on YT said they eat an avg of 3000 cals a day? Is that just for DS, that's what she had, is that for all DS? What foods should I avoid like the plague? Anyone else have the revision done with no change to their sleeve? How did u deal with that mentally, that everything is pretty much the same as before u went into surgery? How much should I be eating? Any daily caloric goal I should be reaching for? What happens when I do transgress and eat a sandwich with the bread, or 4 fries outta my daughters Wendy's bag? How's my body gonna react? Sorry y'all, I know I really went on, but this is soooo not like my VSG that it's just left me at a loss. I don't know what to expect or anticipate anymore. Thanks ahead for any advice u share. Hello

I had GERD pretty bad for years and sick multiple times a week due to past vertical banding. My revision to RNY went well, and the GERD is gone and I can now eat healthy foods and have no more issues---It feels so good. Hope it works as well for you. Thank you I am hoping it helps to because I have suffered with this for many years now and it appears the healthy foods i like trigger it broccoli is one an cucumbers another. And now for the last week and a half I have not lost a lb I am getting discouraged I don't know what to do to get the scale moving again i don't want my support group thinking I am not trying because I am and I haven't changed much in what I am eating except eating more vegetables since the garden is now producing the fruits of my labor

    Caresource Ohio requirements

Thank you for this information. I'm just getting started trying to work with them for a possible revision to a duodenal switch. I saw my primary care doctor today and told her I needed a 9 month physician documented diet and she asked me if she needed to fill out a form and what other info was needed. I told her I'd call Caresource to find out. I called and got a seriously unhelpful rep who said she can't tell me, that the doctor needs to call Provider Services. I told her that this makes me nervous. If I don't have the info myself, how am I to know what's being done is correct? My doc's office could get the wrong info and 9 months from now we submit it for approval only to be told "The 9 month diet wasn't done correctly." It will be ME who has to wait another 9 months. The rep was unmoved. She kept saying she couldn't help me. Frustrating!
  19. I'll hopefully be having a band to bypass revision in January or February of 2017. Good luck with all of your requirements! The time will fly by.
  20. What kind of revision can you have after Gastric bypass...I had in 2004 with no followup and regained all weight. Karen

    Goal weight

@@rydersmama Awesome weight-loss. Congratulations! I am also 5'5, and reached my surgeon's success goal weight of 162 Ibs yesterday. Well, I want to go lower, as I still look bit overweight. My personal revised goal weight would be 143 Ibs, and my stretch goal would be 132 Ibs. So, I am still plodding along, and hoping that with sticking to my food plan, I will lose more. I have a longer journey to maintenance, but as mentioned in other posts, it is best to lose as much as I can now, before it gets tougher, or re-gain happens. Good luck to you

    Has anyone had these issues

I believe Duke accepts patients who have had bad outcomes from other doctors and who need revision. They are top notch. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  23. Hello I just joined this group today, I did not know they had an app for gastric bypass. I I had the RNY almost two and a half years ago. But about 2 to 3 months out I was already having difficulties, constant vomiting food would get stuck, my pouch felt like it was going to fall, as if it was being held by a thread. My husband was in the army and got out of active duty two months after I had surgery, so when we moved I was unaware that other doctors don't like to see patients that had surgery by other doctors. I finally found a doctor at about 7 to 8 months out, I was so excited. Although I had to do things on my own and learn from the book I was provided for 5 to 6 months. The doctor I found was clueless about RNY, he didn't even know what blood work to run to check on my Protein and Vitamin intake. He put everything off, finally did an endoscopy and found a hiatal hernia. I told him that I also had horrible acid reflux, I've never had reflux before which he found acid in my pouch. He told me he was going to put a camera in my pouch to see how often acid would come up. Well 6 months later nothing, i was taken to the ER for vomiting pure acid for 2 days and couldn't eat. The ER did an upper endoscopy also, they found an ulcer in my pouch, along with swelling along the line where my intestines and pouch connect. They also found ischemia in my pouch meaning not enough blood flow. They told me to contact my gastric dr. And that I needed a revision immediately. Well I spoke with my doctor and he said that we could not do a revision right now due to the fact that my body wouldn't be able to handle it and I could die on the table. I started bawling and asked him why he waited so long for it to get this far and he tried to make it sound like it was my fault my husband was so angry. Now that I am almost two-and-a-half years out I am looking for a new gastric dr. But it almost seems impossible. I have a doctor a primary doctor that is helping me search for a bypass Dr. due to the fact of what I'm going through, I black out a lot my last blackout was in the shower and I hit my head on the toilet and then later on that day I blacked out again and skinned and bruised both my knees. Abdominal pain, I have pain management, black out after cleaning for an hour. I can't be outside in the sun for more than 30 minutes I will either black out or get blurred vision. I'm always in the ER for rehydration I drink Pedialyte Water and G2 beverages. There's times to where I can't even eat , I blame the second doctor for it because I told him about it when I first became his patient at 7 or 8 months out. So I fired him, now I'm looking for another gastric bypass doctor, he didn't even know what blood work to do to check for all my labs. I have 1 day of energy then sleep 3-4 days , I get dizzy spells , headaches, blackouts, blurred vision, my teeth are rotting from the gums up I'm trying to find another doctor to give me vitamin shots do to malabsorption I used to weigh 258 pounds and then I got down to 125 got back up to 145 then for some reason I couldn't eat and had the runs of it looked like bile for 7 days and got back down to 128 now I'm trying to gain weight again. I can't exercise due to doctors notes, I can't work due to doctors notes and I can't see a psychologist due to the fact that they can't help me because mentally I'm fine it's my physical situation that I need psychologist. I can't get a revision until the ulcers heal I now have 2, and the swelling goes down. If I have a revision and I get ulcers again my next revision will be removing my pouch and conecting my small intestines directly to my esophagus. Does anyone else have anything like this that they may be going through? I asked my doctor if I had P.O.T.S. because I match all but 1. Racing heart beat. My lowest blood pressure was 95/36 my highest was 132/98 due to I felt horrible that day. Sent from my SM-N910T3 using the BariatricPal App
  24. I'm trying to get a revision procedure so I was initially denied due to not having 5 years 40 bmi. But my case is I had a procedure in place 5 years ago which explains why I only have 3 years. I'm praying my surgeon can overturn UHC's denial thru the peer to peer next week. It's giving me so much anxiety and depression right now Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    30/30/30 rule

I am a sleeve to bypass revision because of uncontrollable GERD. When I was sleeved, I would drink until I took my first bite, have nothing while I was eating and then wait 30 minutes after my last bite to begin drinking again. I don't miss the liquid at all during my meals. Now that I have RNY, I follow the same rule. Drink up until my first bite, nothing with my meal and wait 30 minutes to resume drinking again. Contrary to others, I did try practicing during my pre-op and found that it was helpful.
