    Sleep Apnea Questions

I was set on 15 as well and was told the same thing about my narrow airway. After 45 pounds they reduced the pressure. Getting off this thing is my #1 NSV. I hate this damn thing even though I feel much better after starting it a few months ago.

    NSV non surgical victories NEW

I have to fly allot and it used to be a shore. Some of my NSV are being able to walk straight down the isle without fear of hitting everyone with my hips or having to walk sideways. Another is not having to have a seatbelt extender. I also have a great big smile when I actually have to tighten it to fit. I also enjoy using the tray table since it does not hit my stomach any more and actually have to extend it.
  4. eggs were one of the toughtest foods for Frankesleeve to readjust to. Scrambled eggs seem to be a slider food for me, but hard boiled eggs are filling and I'm not able to eat as much. I didn't realize it at first, but chicken was one of the toughest things for me to digest. Congrats on your NSV and doing so well.

    !55 gone forever

I have maintained my weight at 175 for about a year! My high weight was 330. Today I am a size 12 (from a 26). My hips have gone from 58 to 38. I am more relaxed about my eating. I try to make good choices and usually do. The only thing I have to avoid is eating right before bed. This sometimes causes reflux or sliming and feels like my food has not digested at all in the morning, That aside I can eat everything in moderation. I usually use some sort of sauce with my meat. I still have to remind myself to eat small bites and to eat slowly. My most difficult challenge is to keep myself from eating when I am not really hungry. Today I had a huge NSV! I have practiced yoga for about 3 years. Today my instructor asked me to model some positions for others in the class. It is the athletic triumph of my life!!!! I have never been good at any physical activity but that is finally changing. We can do it!!!!!
  6. I can relate (I guess we ALL can!!!), today I went to the Harley-Davidson dealership just to see what was new in motorclothes. I tried on this jacket in the sale section, it was a 2x. Last summer there would be no way it would fit, it would've been too small. Today I could wrap the darn thing AROUND me!!!!! The salesgirl couldn't figure out why I was laughing to the point of tears! Normally I would have loved finding a pink leather jacket in my size, today I was laughing because there WEREN'T any in MY size, a large! NSV of a different sort!
  7. Along with buying new clothes and shoes, I "suffered" through another intolerable NSV yesterday. I took my wedding rings in to be resized since they were almost falling off daily. Resizing from a 7.5 to a 5.5 is gonna cost me $100.00. Waaaaah! This losing weight thing sure sucks! Lol!
  8. Today is my 12 week (3 month surgiversary). I was sleeved back on July 21, 2011 by Dr. Richard Collier at University General in Houston. My experience has been wonderful. The only pain/disomfort was during the first few days after surgery due to the gas used to inflate the abdomen area during surgery. I have had no complications (Thank you, Jesus) and no food intolerance. My presurgery weight was 394. I lost 23 lbs during my three week pre-op diet, so on the day of surgery I weighed 373. Since then I have lost another additional 49 lbs...so my total loss is 70 lbs! Of course right after surgery I lost weight very quickly, but it has now averaged out to about 2-3 lbs per week. I did experience a stall about 3 weeks after surgery. Overall I am extremely pleased with my doctor, and impressed with the sleeve. I am realizing that as I lose the weight - it is REALLY GONE. (Not like before when I would lose it and gain even more back). Before when I would "start a diet" as I lost weight I just packed my "fat" clothes in a bin, because in reality I knew I would probably need them again. But now it is finally sinking in that as I lose each pound - it will be the last time I am at that weight The other day my husband and I were talking about my weight loss and I couldn't believe that I had lost 70 lbs - yes I can see it in my clothes and on the scale, but after being so overweight for so long - it is taking a while to really get my head "in the game". We were in the kitchen talking and I looked over to the 5 gallon Water bottles we use to purchase filtered water. I asked him "How much do you think one of those bottles of water weighs?" I was curious so I went and got the scale. It weighed 42 lbs. So basically that meant that at my highest weight I was literally carrying 1 1/2 of those water bottles around with every step and every breath. No wonder I was exhausted at the end of the day!!!! It was a moment of reflection - honestly I was a little sad when I realized just how heavy I was, but at the same time I was encouraged by my weight loss so far. So now I think in terms of these water bottles....1 1/2 water bottles gone.. 3 1/2 more to go. Here are a few of my NSV (non-scale victories): 1. i'm now riding a bike (haven't done that in about 20 years) 2. celebrated my 36th birthday and instead of feeling older, my body is actually getting younger 3. i actually enjoy picking out my clothes in the morning, because i'm no longer limited to only a few items 4. i'm starting to wear some blouses without a jacket or cover-up 5. even at 324 my husband calls me "flakita" (little skinny) 6. i have much more energy and stamina (this carries over into the bedroom also) 7. i can put the arm rest down in my car 8. i get in/out of the car much faster - my husband commented how he used to wait as i got out of the car and walked around, but now he doesn't have to 9. my huband used to call me pretty...the other day he called me gorgeous 10. i'm one step closer in my preparation to become a mommy
  9. My six month surgiversary was yesterday and I’m feeling great. I’m losing at a pretty consistent 14 lb a month rate right now and I think that is terrific. I don’t lose every day – in fact I often go up a pound or two and stall out for a few days and then lose for the next few. Here is a roundup of my NSVs since I started losing weight pre-surgery last June: Now wear large t-shirts and polos down from 3-4x before 2x dress shirt as opposed to 5x before Pants size 46 down from a tight 62 before Walking has become very easy and I’m not intimidated by distance any longer One night I jogged to my car (parked in the far end of the lot) in the rain I’m doing deep Water aerobics 2x a week and regular water aerobics 1-2x a week Every physical aspect of my life is so much better and I have a tremendous boost in energy So far, I’ve not had any issues with food worth mentioning. I’m finding it pretty easy to stick to the 600-800 daily calorie intake with 60-80g Protein and 30g net carbs or less. This site and others have proven to be very valuable to me because when I get the urge to splurge I look for something to inspire my inner chef and stay on track. My diet is as varied as fish tacos with low carb lavosh to slow cooked bbq pork with a no calorie bbq sauce. My restriction is very good and I only eat 2-4 oz of protein depending on the density. I’m working to add more fruits and veggies to my diet now but protein is first and the king of my plate. When eating at home, my wife and I make our own meals about 75% of the time. Prior to surgery I would have found this unacceptable. I think that was a symptom of my obsession with food. Now I see it as we both get what we want. When we do share a dish it fits my meal plan and she has lost about 20 pounds too. She also exercises with me very often. This has benefited us both. Going out to eat with my wife and/or friends has been fun too. I’ve learned to order whatever I want – and I want food that fits my plan. I don’t worry about wasting food. I order by taste so that I don’t feel deprived. Sometimes just an appetizer. Sometimes a full entrée with left overs. Sometimes a shared app and entrée. Taking food home is an option and because I ordered food I liked, I often have the leftovers for 2-3 meals. Most of my fears before surgery have not been realized. I’m pretty comfortable with myself right now. I get impatient and want to lose faster but then I consult my logs and see how far I’ve come and that really helps. I’m now preparing myself for the possibility of plastic surgery at the end of my journey. I wish everyone as much success as I’ve had so far.

    Is this a plateau?

I'm thinking about digging a giant hole, crushing my scale into tiny bits, and then putting those bits into said hole. Everyone gets so frustrated when the scale doesn't move, and that can't be healthy. It would take massive strength, but I'm seriously considering only being weighed at my surgeon post op visits at 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. I'm looney to think I'd EVER be ok with that, but these posts remind be that it's an inevitable part of the process. Look for NSV's. Those are a much more fun way of feeling successful.
  11. Very cool experience @@LisaMergs Seeing a confused look in peoples faces is a great NSV

  14. Way back in the Bad Old Days, I was on whopping doses of not one, but two blood pressure medications, one of which had a water pill (diuretic) baked into it... and still my blood pressure was usually about 140/85, so barely controlled at all. When I had my VSG, my primary care doctor told me to take one dose of the one with the water pill the day after surgery to help me pee out the surgery fluid and then leave off taking it. I continued on the amlodipine at 10 mg. A week and a half later I had my blood pressure taken in the office and it was a bit low, so my doctor started me on 5 mg a day, but told me to monitor my blood pressure each morning before taking it. If it was normal, don't take the drug; and if it was normal for four days straight, to leave off taking the drug altogether and send him a message. Today was the fourth day. I took my blood pressure this morning as always, and it was 118/65. I am no longer on blood pressure medication, which was arguably my biggest reason for getting the surgery done! I've only lost 33 lbs. since surgery and have 84 to go, but apparently my circulatory system appreciated it and I went from barely-controlled-with-two-big-doses to no medication needed at all in a day short of three weeks.
  15. I'm three months out this past week! It just dawned on me that... I'm down almost two shirt sizes My neck is down 3 inches My waist size is down 8 inches. Holy buckets... and at my NUT appointment she told me that I may be losing a bit fast. Just wanted to crow a bit.

  19. I have to go back to work tomorrow, I am a dispatcher and wear the same uniforms as the cops. So I go in my closet to get a uniform ready and I could not have imagined that the thing was going to fall off me. I know I have lost weight, but I really had not been able to see it. Well I am not sure what to do about tomorrow, go in plain clothes??? The uniform pants are not going to stay up! So then I had to find something to wear to an Anniversary dinner tonight and NOTHING in my closet fits! NOTHING, things that were tight before now hang on me. I started crying in the mirror because I could not see it before today. The days of baggy hoodie sweatshirt hiding are gone, shopping is in order!

    My NSVs..

Hurray for NSV! With my walking exercise I made it up to 3 miles on my fast-pace walk! And it felt fantastic!! I am three weeks post-op and due to surgery complications, I had a 7-day hospital stay, and I still have a large hematoma on my left side! So three miles may not seem like much of a victory, but for me it's excellent!
  21. It's not silly at all- that's a great NSV- your shrinking! I haven't had an nsv for a while- went on vacation for 2 weeks and am having trouble getting back on track, both with eating right and excersise. Today, so far so good, so hopefully this is the start. I will hit the gym in the morning.
  22. NSV, non scale victory. Yes, these are the things that make us smile and jump and laugh and say hooorahhh! But I think they should also be reflections as well. This evening I was feeling a little antsy. So close to 9/11. As many of you know, I am from NYC. I basically grew up on Wall St. from the time I was 19 years old. Needless to say I lost a lot of people that day. I had just moved to Chicago a few months prior. When I was working in NY I worked in 1WTC92nd floor, I worked with these people that many I considered family, for 15 years. No one made it out that was in the office that morning. So, feeling antsy, I decided to take a walk, get out some nervous energy etc. I'm sure many of you have seen this before in the evening how the sun elongates your shadow, ha, even elongated, pre sleeve you could still see yourself as obese. Well, this evening I was walking and I saw my shadow and I looked normal. That in itself to me is amazing but right next to my shadow was the shadow of the two buildings behind me. It was so sureal, I tell you. I just stood there and stared and then silently cried. So where as the shadow itself is a NSV, but the overall experience was an NSV because where I would normally be jumping up and down, I was reminded of the people that accepted me just the way I was and only wanted me to be happy and healthy. So my reflection is that this journey is dedicated to them. On Sunday, @8:00 am the Fire Fighters of Charlotte are going to climb the stairs of the Duke building 2x to represent the 110 flights in the WTC. Each one will be wearing a picture of a fallen first responder. I am going to walk there to show my support to them and then walk home. About 5.5-6 miles total.
