~*~ WORKOUT Challenges and Chat Thread ~*~

Hey Diva, great thread! I too use fitness as my motivation; I go to the gym in work (basic but free) 1 -2 times a week and go to a Zumba class once a week. If I have the time or energy I also try to do something in the house at the weekend... perhaps the wii fit. On sky there is a fitness chanel and I have recorded some cardio workouts on there that I do. I also count fitness goals as NSV... for example, before the sleeve I could only walk on the treadmill, now I am jogging on there... I walk for a min, the jog for as long as I can, then walk etc... but I am noticing that the jogging is becoming a lot longer in duration and that I can breath!!!! That is a good feeling! My next mini goal is to go swimming with my kids; they both go to a swimming club and enter galas, so they are really strong swimmers (as I used to be)... I have given myself a weight related goal, of which I am three pounds away... so not long to go now! My next weigh related goal is when I lose another 14lb and then my aim is to take up squash again... I find that is a really good exercise for frustration and getting rid of it! My ultimate goal, which I am hoping to achieve in the new year, is to be 'light' enough and strong enough to go boxing training. Both my son and my husband go and it is a fab workout... I will keep you posted!!

    NSV shout outs

I had the best NSV today. I have been writing and talking on the phone for about a month with this really hot guy. I found him on a dating site and wrote to him but never thought he would write back because he's so darn cute. I've been afraid to meet him even though he has seen my picture. We met today and had a great day. He had his hand on my thigh when we were sitting side by side and said he could feel all the muscle in my thigh. He is a personal trainer. He said he had a great day and can't wait to see me again. Whoa, I never thought a guy like that would ever be interested in me, even at goal. Needless to say, I am very excited.

  4. Got a new work shirt this morning coz the other one started to look like a dress! So now I'm 2xl instead of 3xl and the 2xl is still a bit baggy! :smile2:

My first NSV- 2 months after surgery

Good Job. I feel silly asking, but what does NSV mean?
  6. I have been banded a little over 2 months and have lost 22 pounds to date. Although I am thrilled at the number, I have been discouraged at the fact that the scale has only moved 3-4 pounds in the past 4 weeks. I stumbled upon a picture at my friends babyshower, which was taken 2 weeks before my surgery and HOLY COW, I have my first NSV!!!:smile2:[/img]
  7. That's a great NSV! I'll find out tomorrow if I need a seat belt extender. We'll see. ;-p Husband is taking his computer. I'm not taking mine but I may still be able to check in on his. Have a good week everyone!

    Northern Ontario?

Congratulations Polly!! Good for you!! Er....what are nsv's? I've been trying to figure out what that means! I'm in the same size uniform pants only they aren't stretched out as much (I think!) I'm still not at my sweet spot yet (damn it!) And I've only gone down a 1/2 lb. in like 2 wks. I've noticed the hair loss too. I don't worry too much about it as I have a ton of hair but when I brush it out or take a hair clip out, there is lots! I still have about 10 Meditrim left but I have a scoop of Whey Protein Isolate in a cup of skim milk and a cup of frozen berries (blueberries, strawberries, whatever's on sale!) and 2 tsp. of Splenda in the morning. I always remember the 'protein first' rule. My list of 'can't have'-s is ever expanding! Tried to have some very thinly sliced chorizo sausage today and nope! Too dry. Up it came. Pork chops, no matter how well done they are, even in a sauce or gravy, are difficult too. Rye bread? Nope. Made a bean Soup and put some left-over boiled potatoes in it - not a good idea. Can't do boiled potatoes very well either. With those kind of limitations, you'd think the scale would move! I am thrilled for you! Keep me in the loop on your progress!!

    NSV shout outs

I had an NSV today that thrilled me more than I can say. I pick up my grandson at school everyday and drop him off on my way to work. I went to a smaller size unifrorm yesterday but my son was on the phone arguing with his satellite company and didn't notice anything :-(. Today however when I got there he said "Let me look at you! Momma you look like you did when I was in high school(10 yrs ago)!' I have been dancing on air all evening. Whoop, whoop, whoop!
  10. Hey checking on my vacation and yes I clean before going on vacation, Melody. Quick NSV's: no seatbelt extender or tired and breathing from pulling my luggage!!!
  11. pollywogg

    Northern Ontario?

The scale has started to move again - at a nice steady pace. I'm SO happy! The nsv's are amazing too. I tried a pair of pants on the other day not expecting them to fit at all and they did! Plus I'm down two pant sizes in my uniform pants as of today! I'm just estatic about my band, its such a great tool. For breakfast because I'm having some hair loss I'm drinking the rest of my protein shakes, but they are coming to an end. What do you put in your breakfast shake?

    Yikes! It's finally here!

So far, so good! I am really surprised that I am not hungry! And even though I am not banded yet, I had the best NSV on Monday. I had an extremely stressful day and that is when I usually turn to food, but I didn't!!! I was so proud of myself! Take care and keep updating!
  13. Hey, Me too... used to get them for a variety of reasons... 12 weeks post op and no migraine... a few headaches but no migraine... I will consider this a NSV...lol
  14. Question: If my little demon kitty finds sitting at my feet to be his favorite place, does this mean I've hit another NSV moment? As in I've lost my belly so my boobs are 'hanging low' (no shelf) and instead of my food falling on my boobs, it's actually falling to the floor? Bahahaha...ok TMI I think. Melody
  15. Leigha, I think that's one of those NSV moments...being able to put on hooker boots cuz our calves aren't too fat! I think I'm actually going to be able to fit into snow boots that come up to my knees this year! I am sooo tired of the ones that stop just below the calf because they still let snow inside the tops! Melody
  16. Melody-Congrats on surviving week 1! Yay for the NSV's & for having a great husband who diverted your attention. Mine may have led me straight to ice cream . (Still love him though:wub:) HB-Not sure if you are into baseball...but one of the pitchers for the Rockies, Jason Hammel, was my husbands best friend when they were little. He is such a super sweet (and insanely tall) guy! Christie--!!!!!!YYYYYAAAAAAYYYY!!!!!!! Tell Steve he better be on his best behavior! I agree with Denise and say soup or something you know that you normally have 0 problems with. Also hopefully your table will be near the bathroom??? Shammah-hope you are feeling good
  17. Good afternoon, everyone! Well, Saturday was my 8-month anniversary out of surgery, and also the day of my very first 5K run ever. I'm down about 70 lbs overall, including what I lost before surgery. Should it be more? Yeah... I think so, because I had a long stall in there and am in the middle of another one. It's my own fault, I've been eating more like I'm on maintenance rather than still in the losing phase. I still have about 18 lbs. to go in order to reach my original goal, but I think I want to go another 30 and wind up at about 148. -Ish. Something like that. I have posted a ton of before and current pics on my profile if anyone's interested, but will attempt to post a few here too. Some of these (specifically the '80s jeans ones) are referenced in a thread I started a couple of weeks ago after a particularly emotional day, between a really good run and getting those damn jeans on for the first time in about 22 years. That thread is here, http://verticalsleevetalk.com/vertical-sleeve-gastrectomy-surgery-vsg-success-stories/9113-best-week-ever-nsv-after-nsv.html, if you want to read the story. I'll try to post some of the better ones here, if it works. The ones with the jeans are Those 80's Jeans, as far up as I could get them before surgery, and actually ON now. The rest are all in my profile anyway, if you want to take a peek! It uploaded them in reverse order so you get the current ones first and the befores last. Apologies in advance for any psychological trauma these cause.
  18. Good morning, banders! I'm starting Day 5 and feel fabuloso! I'm afraid even to say it lest I jinx myself but I have had absolutely none of the usual first week of Atkins Induction bitchiness, irritability, muscle twitching and carb craving! Oh I did have a nagging headache for 2 days but that went away. I had one or two moments when I just wanted to give in...not because I was craving but because I just wanted it...but I resisted! Yea me! Another NSV moment...my husband put his arms around me to say goodbye when he went off to work and said, "Hmmm...you've lost some weight." Woohoo! I think the only problem I'm having is that my feet ache and, I know this sounds ridiculous, but I think it's because I'm holding absolutely no excess fluid and they're feeling 'fragile'. I really wish I could find a way to hold a bit more water than I am right now. Lots to do today to get ready for my trip. Three more days! I am so geeked! .
  19. OMG! That is great! I agree, relax and enjoy yourself. This counts as an NSV!
  20. Great NSV Melody! Oh, your trip sounds so fun! Atkins will be so much better for your trip. Going in very tight band mode would not be easy.

My 1st NSV and I am not even banded yet!!!

To say I am very proud of myself is to put it mildly. Yesterday, after the call from my surgeon's office about his fee, due tomorrow at my Pre-Op, I cried most of the day, stayed pretty depressed, but stayed determined it would all work out. I have to claim my 1st NSV!!!! In any high stress situation, I always turn to food. I am so proud to say that last night, I stayed on my pre-op diet and did not let food control my emotions. That is a major step for me. One I will have to continue on forever!!! Pre-Op tomorrow, Surgery 10/8! I can not wait!!!:thumbup:

    Just had to share....

I LOVE when people share their NSV's! That is fantastic! You should give yourself a big pat on the back!!! All of you

    Gray pants....

Yeah for NSVs!!! Thanks for checking in and enjoy yourself.
  24. I forgot to mention my NSV moment this morning. I went into the bathroom this morning to brush my teeth and hair and as my eyes looked into the mirror, I noticed that not only is the slight puffiness in my face gone (almost looks slender!), but my eyes are bright and clear and I look healthier and happier than I have in a long time! Also, even tho the scales aren't moving that much, I tried on my vacation clothes (new) this morning to make sure I hadn't bloated my belly since I bought them and they're *loose*! Not sloppy loose, but very comfortably loose! I told my husband that I am sticking to Atkins while we're at Disney (since there are cafes and restaurants serving healthy foods). Also, with all the walking we'll be doing (6 day unlimited pass 3 of the parks and a husband who never says quit)...I figure we'll hit the parks at 10 a.m. and my husband won't want to stop until they close so I should come home lighter from all the activity! Yeah baby! .
  25. Oh man, that story needs to go in NSV shout outs!! AWESOME.
