    Got my Date!

Good luck with your surgery Ladydawag2009. I'm being operated on the same day and I'm looking forward to a journey all about me. That's why I'm doing this as I'm 50 later in the year and I want my weight to be a Healthy BMI of 26. Got a long way to go to get there but I'm on my way now to achieving it ????
  2. Hi everyone... Its been a while since I've posted. Currently I have completed the process for approval, all I have left is the psych eval. I was all set and ready for that and my hubby had an accident almost 2 weeks ago. He fell out off his tree stand deer hunting. He destroyed his ankle and at this moment he is in the OR for surgery #4. I am anxious to get my ball rolling also, but want to make sure he is all set. He is self employed and non weight bearing for 8 weeks. So, here's to his healing and soon to be banded for me!
  3. i saw my surgeon and nut last week. i am so excited to start this journey, but i am also very scared. i have a terrible relationship with food. seriously, i eat all day long and tend to eat a bunch of crap. i have done every diet out there and I've always regained my weight. I'm scared when i read these stories about people regaining all of their weight even with the band. i don't want this to be just an expensive diet. I'm tired of feeling life crap everyday because i weigh too much. is anyone else having these same worries or am i crazy? going for my bariatrition and psych eval tomorrow. wish me luck.
  4. I have completed 8 day on my preop diet and have only lost 3 lbs. I have cheated once, having 2 pieces of chese and that was it. I really think I should be further than this and am worried I wont be able to have the surgery because my liver will be too large. I see the doctor tomorrow, wo I will find out then I am sure. I am also concerned that if I cant lose weight now, how am I going to lose it when I start eating real food again. How much do people usually lose on the preop?
  5. I didn't know what forum to put this post under....I just wanted to know if anyone else had used the Ardyss Body Magic? I have been wearing mine since March as my weight loss was stalled - and it totally helped me get moving again...and literally has reshaped my body in the process. I wouldn't believe it had I not experienced it myself. So I was just wondering if anyone else had tried it - it is pricey (as a distributor I get mine cheaper than the retail) but I am finding it well worth the investment. I have lost 15 lbs and 6 inches wearing mine - I am on my fourth smaller size now. Just wanted to know if others who have had surgery have similar results....as I get asked about that a lot. I just started wearing the Angel bra, too...am hoping it reshapes the side fat into my chest as it promises! Anyone else have results with it? I just like to hear real people stories, you know? It is very encouraging! Now if I can find a surefire answer to these grandma wings I am sporting thanks to my weight loss..... Thanks for your input! Kim

    People who don't undersand

I haven't had that problem yet... although the people in my life who I have shared the info with have all seen me lose and gain and lose and gain over the years. I am having a problem with my boyfriend, who completely supports the surgery in theory. I think he doesn't realize how hard this could be for him- so much of what we do revolves around food- going out to eat, getting sundaes- me making brownies or cookies- ordering pizza etc. Last night he asked me to order a pizza and I didn't want to- I said he could order it if he felt like it but I didn't want any part in ordering one of my favorite foods and not having any. His response was "you can have some" and I told him no, I wasn't sure enough yet of my self control and 1 piece of my favorite pizza wuoldn't be the end- then he said "Well, why don't you order ice cream with it and you can have that". He just didn't get it. It turned into a huge crying fight and I'm miserable today. He didn't want to talk about it. I ordered his damn pizza and told him not to ask me again to do it. He's my enabler and needs to stop. I can't do it if he keeps putting pizza and ice cream under my nose!

    SO CONFUSED. Doctors...Procedures..oh my!!!

i went through the same thing a few months ago when i decided to pursue surgery, i read through all my options and met with 2 different doctors and eventually chose the lapband for the following reasons: 1- i am only 24 and want children in the future so being able to get the band filled and unfilled through out my life will work well for the many adventures i plan to have! 2- even after a sleeve your stomach can stretch back to a larger size and when you are not going to the doctor periodically for check ups then you can quickly loose focus on weight loss. 3- i live about 90 minutes from the doctor i chose due to the limited amount of bariatric surgeons who work with my insurance, i have not really had a problem due to the fact that i absolutly love everyone in their office. 4- the thought of changing my anatomy kinda freaked me out alittle, it was more reassuring knowing that the band could be removed if necessary downt the road. hope this helps and good luck with your journey Lauren

    3 month pre-opt diet/Month 1

From the album: KatieOkieDokie's Journey (Before, during, after)

This is the start of my journey. I have to lose 60 lbs before they will schedule surgery, and 75 lbs before they will do the surgery. So I am on a 3 month special diet to help me lose weight! So far so good! I lost 30 lbs the first month! I'm starting to notice a difference already!
  10. I have my initial appointment on Tuesday. I was told that this appointment would be 4-5 hours in length as I would be attending a seminar and meeting with all of the staff. How long after meeting with surgeon was it before you knew that he was going to accept you as a patient? My insurance requires 6 months weight loss plan OR 3 months comprehensive plan (meeting with NUT and psych etc. on a regular basis). Do you think there is a chance I could have the surgery by the end of October? We have just about hot our deductible so my out of pocket expense will be much less if done by then. April 29th 2019 Surgiversary

Congratulations on your weight loss; I am so sorry you are having so many other health related issues. It must be very hard during this pandemic to have to wait to confer with your doctors. Good luck, I hope you get some answers and some relief!
  12. Or it might not be anything more than generalised difficulty in digesting them. "Protein farts" are a well recognised phenomenon. I cant handle protein shakes and bars, they really do bloat me up, give me intestinal pain and make me miserable (and very smelly to be around). Google it, you'll see its not at all uncommon. It might also be the fact that they're all awfully sweet, and chock full of artificial sweeteners usually. And ingesting a lot of artificial sweetener is notorious for causing diarrhoea. For myself, I just dont eat/drink them. Its entirely posible to lose weight, be healthy and keep your muscle without ingesting protein shakes.

    Need Your Book Ideas!

Alex, Expectations is a huge one. I know I am not alone when I said the day after surgery "OK I had weight loss surgery so when the weight going to fall off?" I have seen many people including myself get discouraged when at month 1or 2 they're still not losing much weight. I have seen some who wished they never had the surgery and even one who wanted the band out after a month. I wish I was more prepared in that aspect of things.
  14. The title says it all. At 9 days post op I was 293.6 and for the last 3 days a few quarter pounds have been sneaking on to where I'm 295.4 this morning 12 days post op. Someone please tell me what the hell is going on as I'm not even eating normally yet and only consuming around 600-800 calories a friggin day in protein shakes and farina.

12 days post op and gaining?

We know it's not actually fat you're gaining, so no need to freak out. After a few weeks we go into a stall that can also cause a little bit of gain. Keep doing what you're doing and try your stay off the scale. You'll be pleasantly surprised if you can stay off for a couple weeks by what you'll see. The first month shouldn't really be weight loss time. It's more healing time. Try to remember that.

I was banded 10.28.09 Is this normal?

The hungry is called "Bandsters Hell". Try very hard not to give into it and eat only those portions that your doctor told you to eat. Try eating things higher in Protein and waiting longer to drink after you eat. Eat some white chicken in a can with a little olive oil mayo, Flaky fish (flounder, tuna, salmon), ricotta cheese, and All natural Peanut Butter. Those have helped me. As for the peeing, it's because when you lose weight it comes out as Water. It's nothing to be alarmed about. That's how your body flushes all of the toxins out of your body (toxins and fat). Also make sure that you ARE drinking at least 64oz of fluids a day. That includes your Protein Shakes. My nutritionist also allowed me to have 8oz of protein shakes 3 times a day instead of the 4oz. She said that I can have the 2 shakes and if I am really hungry, that I can have the 3 shakes. Ask your doctor.
  17. My wife was originally planning on having WLS (specifically VSG) after watching my successful recovery with relatively minor complications and successful weight loss. She was going to wait 6 months after my post op to see how things are progressing for me before making a decision to attend a WLS consulatation. Regardless, her latest decision is to not have WLS for a couple reasons. 1. Slimes and throwing up: She didn't like all the slimes and throwing up I went through when adjusting to the solids phase. It was mainly my fault because I am a fast eater and it took me a while to learn to "hear" the full signals. I had to learn how much to eat, how fast to eat and what types of food my sleeve an tolerate over time. Regardless, she didn't like seeing me in the bathroom so much after eating. I am better now, but still have issues with eating stringy things like roast bean or string green Beans in addition to fatty meats. Truely, it feels like dumping syndrome. I do try to explain to her that not everyone slimes and throws up and most of the time, it was my fault. 2. Auto-immune disease: She has at least 1 auto-immune disease. The one that she has requires an infusion of remicade every 6 weeks. This is one expensive infusion. It is called Ankylosing Spondylitis. You can follow the link for more details. It is basically an auto-immune disesase that attacks all the joints and there is no cure. When we talked to the surgeon during one of my pre-op visits, he said that people with auto-immune diseases might have more complications, but did not go into the details. She might also have PCOS. We do not know yet and will find out soon. This is where I could really use some advise from others. She has about 150 lb to lose as we both ended up in the same weight range at our heaviest earlier this year. Maybe it is because of life stresses? Who knows. The fact is that her extra weight may be contributing to other complications like high blood pressure, pregnancy issues, lack of desire to be outdoors like walking and hiking and on and on. There are plenty of reasons here alone that would make sense for her to consider it. She has tried manu diets (as I have), but has never lost more than 10-20 lbs on them. Atkins, weight watchers, etc. I've had fairly good results from the diets because I am very focused when something needs to be done, but then I lose my focus and the weight comes back. Hence, WLS was the only tool left for me in order to stop the up and down of weight gain and weight loss. She used to be "thin" (size 12) in high school, so I am pretty sure she remembers what that is like. She was a pretty hot girl in her younger days. In college she was slightly overweight, but still very hot and sexy (we got married then). We both put on a lot of weight in the last 12 years of our marriage. I don't hold the weight against her (never have), but I would like her to be healthy to avoid future weight-related complications. The weight does not cause her to be unhappy about her life (mainly family is what makes her happy). She is usually in a positive mood and certainly brings happiness and well-being to my life. I would like her to consider WLS because it is life-changing and truely opens up a lot of opportunities that did not exist before. However, I don't want to push her into something she is against. Any thoughts?

2 years post-op update before & after pics

It's been 2 years now since RNY. I have lost 180lbs. I am feeling great though i have had a few bumps I would still do it all over again. I did have a internal petersens hernia which caused me to have an intuspection and resulted in needing a bowel resection to get ride of some necrotic bowel. It wasn't fun but they said it was because I lost a lot of weight pretty quickly. I do a great deal of walking and now have more focus on working out with weights to build more muscle. I wear a size medium shirt and size 9 jeans my shoe size even dropped an entire shoe size.
  19. How do I get my ticker to show both weight loss and BMI on the same ticker? I'm a newbie to the site. Surgery was on 5/23.

    100lbs in under 6 months?

Girl you do not want to lose 100lbs in six months that is way too fast. Slow and steady is the lap band. If you want drastic weight loss like that then the by pass or vertical sleeve would be your way to go. Most likely it wont happen with the band unless you starve yourself. Some people get the misconception that hunger is not involved with the band but you will still be hungry. That is too much weight loss in six months you will be sick and unhealthy if you go that fast. I would not do that. Your hair will fall out too and you will have some sagging skin for sure.

    100lbs in under 6 months?

hi, I did, but this is not a magic wand, or the easy way out!! I lost 50 lbs pre op, and I spend about 2 hrs a day at the gym most days. this is just a tool, and you have to work the tool. Usually folks who have a lot to lose can lose quicker initially. I started out at 366 lbs. I wasnt aiming for a certain weight loss, just to develop good habits and routines...that has to be your goal. you didnt get overweight in 6 months, and its not realistic to think your problems will be solved in that time....it is all behaviour modification with the band...meaning you have to change what and how you eat, and how you move. baby steps!
  22. Well I know with this new band I obviously wont be restricted till probably after 6 ccs. Well first of all I think my Dr. is out till Dec.10th. so theres no way Ill have restriction till then. I have only 3ccs in an 11cc band. Then With my last band I never saw this dr. put in much at a time so Im so afraid when I go in December he still wont have me restricted. I have decided (and have everyday since I got this new band in October) that I have to go on an old fashioned diet till I get there. Im failing miserably.Everyday I start a new diet. Ive gained 35 lbs or so. Only problem is that when I went in for my first fill about 3 weeks ago I had gained 30 or so.Im kinda afraid if i lose any now that he will think im actually restricted and will give me less then I need thinking that im more restricted then I am. I read in here a lot lately trying to get mentally motivated. I feel more motivated for others then I do for myself. I used to diet on a regular basis. I was never one of those people who said i just cant lose weight. I lost massive weight in my life, I just always gained it back and more. I know I can get this weight off or start anyway till I get restricted. A little support would help

    Newly Banded...

Hi there.....I was just banded on the 13th of October and in the usual pain I thought I;d be in.....Some incisional pain as well as gas into my arms...any tips???? also how do i get one of those lil' calculator things that shows my weight loss....I'm happy to be here!!!!!!
  24. I am 6 months post op now and have lost 76 pounds. I think my weight loss has been for the most part average to a little slow. That has been done with staying below 35g of carbs a day. I have always been a carb addict and I have no doubt that if I had gone above the 35 my loss would have been slower and the cravings would have killed me! The biggest liberation from carbs is not having them haunt my thoughts all day long! I now go for healthier low carb items and this has made me a much happier person. I definitely advocate low carb eating!
  25. It's been one month and I feel great! I've already lost 27 pounds, have more energy, seem happier, (even ask my husband...LOL) and am enjoying the thinner me. I have had a few days were my weight will jump up a pound, then go down a pound or even stay the same but my body is still trying to figure out what I did to it! I know I am losing inches because I can get into clothes I couldn't before. I can actually either zip or button things I couldn't a month ago. I also have a thyroid problem that made it hard to lose weight. I lost more in the last month than I did dieting all last year! This was one of the best things we could have decided to do. Best wishes to all and hopefully you feel as great as I do!
