  1. I am five weeks out from surgery. I'm losing steadily, and have fortunately not had any stalls that last more than a couple of days. Hope I didn't just jinx myself. Here are some of my NSVs: I had knee caps under all that padding I had to sleep last night with a pillow between my knees (I sleep on my side) because my knee bones were crunching each other. LOL. I walked laps at the hospital where I work today and not once did I feel out of breath My knee arthritis is not hurting me at all right now. Before surgery I was so in pain that I dreaded going up and down the stairs in our house. My seat belt doesn't ride up into my neck because of so much stomach and boob. It stays nicely in place. Getting out of the tub doesn't take 10 minutes anymore. I have a lap for my dogs to sit in. I am down from a 3X to a 1X and even they are starting to get baggy. My bra straps keep sliding down to my elbows (shopping this weekend!!!) I don't want to cry when I go to find clothes. I'm still in the plus size, but I know they will fit now. I used to get so upset and give up when even the 3X clothes felt tight. I'm sure there are more, but these are the things that I was excited about today. This is such a wonderful adventure. Now that I am eating soft foods and tolerating them well, I am starting to feel so much better. It's easier to get Protein in and I'm doing better with fluids. I think I'm going to make it!!! My mid-term goal is to be in regular ladies sizes when I buy a dress for my cousin's wedding in August. Hope you are all having great NSVs too! Lisa

    Exercise help!

I was sleeved on Dec 2, 2013 and started exercising when they gave me the all clear. I walk 30 minutes on the treadmill at a good clip 5 days a week, some weight machines and this ab machine and I'm down 50lbs! Just walk .. 30 minutes. Does the trick!
  3. Hi! I will be three weeks out Tuesday and am in the "soft foods" stage. Is anyone at this stage eating salads? I'm getting hungry for one; funny I never enjoyed salads that much before I was banded. I am about "softed" out..........Thanks.
  4. I will get ready to workout in the mornings and then it takes every ounce of mental strength I have just to start. Once I'm in a good rhythm, I feel good and even better when I'm done. I just can't seem to get going. I feel sluggish and lethargic. I'm not quite 3 months out, so I know this is the magic time when I should be exercising, but I seem to have a million reasons not to, even though I know they're all bs. Someone help motivate me!

    Stomach exercises

. I’m sticking to the elliptical and rowing machine for now and trying to keep my stomach tight. I'm only a month and 3 days post op, though. I have a visit with the nutritionist tomorrow and I'll ask her
  6. At over a year past surgery I do still have occasional cravings for sweets (donuts, chocolate etc.). This usually happens if I have something sweet and carby and that starts the cravings up again. If I am eating clean I do not obsess about sweets. As far as steak goes for me I eat it about 2-3 times per month and it goes down just fine as long as I don't eat too fast about 5-6 ounces is fine, filling and a source of protein I wouldn't worry about indulging steak cravings occasionally as long as you are at the point to eat solids.

    5 days post op

You should not even be weighing yourself right now. It's common to gain weight the first week from all the fluids pumped into you in the hospital and the swelling. Just concentrate on fluids and protein and stick to your plan- you will lose weight! I gained 9 lbs in hospital. I'm also 5 days post-op.

    5 days post op

Focusing on the scale will mess with your mind. Just concentrate on your liquid intake. Seriously it may be 2 weeks before the scales will show any changes. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  9. Hi everyone, I'm New to BariatricPal but many posts have been very helpful throughout my short journey. I can't wait to continue being motivated by reading about everyone else's struggles similar to mine and success stories I aspire to accomplish. Best of luck to all! So today is my 10th day post op, & had an appointment with my NUT i was hoping she'd say I was good for mushy foods because I was so sick of protein shake at this point. 2 weeks pre op & 10 days post op liquid diet. Turns out she did give me the go ahead and I went home for some beans and low fat melted cheese... First, the cheese didn't melt all the way (gross) almost like imitation cheese. Second, the moment I ate the first baby spoon I immediately had gas like lil burp bubbles coming up. It continued for the whole 1st ounce and the 1/2 ounce after that was fine but I did have a slight stomach ache afterwards that took me to the restroom. I'm a lil scared it might have been too soon to go off liquids, I'm so sick of protein shakes and was looking forward to some kind of food other than broth. How was your first experience??? Should I hold off on trying again or is this a normal reaction?

    Bad Breath.....

Some of you may not know it...but I did also have breathe for 3 weeks post op.... I talked to my doctor about it, and he said that it's a side effect of having a wound in ur stomach....when ur sleeve has healed, the bad breathe will go away......

    Dating options post surgery

Not sure if I'm posting in the right area so I apologize if this is in the wrong place. I'm single and I dating for me usually involves going to restaurants and bars. I'm going to be banded next week so I intend to be single for a while after but what are the options for when I start dating again? Does anyone have any experience with this?

    Port and Period

Purple - I have the same thing happening with my port when I'm having my period. My port is normally very, very sensitive. I'm constantly aware of it. The port is the only thing I hate about being banded. About 3 days before my period, it starts feeling like the port is trying to push out of my body the swelling and pressure are so great. It's truly miserable. I can't sleep on my stomach or even my left side when I'm having my period. Let us know what the doctor says. I hope it's nothing serious.
  13. Why can't you go back and get your fill early? Why do you have to wait until March? I started booking my next appt 2 weeks after my fill in case I didn't feel restriction. I just had my 3rd fill, 5.5cc in a 10 cc band and now feel restriction. I will see how it goes and if I am still feeling restriction next week I will cancel my appt and make it for a later date.
  14. So, I had a bad second fill experience. I'm over it now, but have no restriction at all. Can't get my third fill until the first week of March. Here are some things I'm thinking of doing to get through this and still lose some weight. Any other suggestions are GREATLY appreciated! 1. I am planning healthy dinners for this week so I don't just do carry out and get something unhealthy. 2. I'm going to add an extra day of working out. 3. I am not going to eat after 8pm. 4. No more munching on snacks at work. I'm going to bring hot tea and have that instead.

  16. Well I guess this makes me 3 days post op. I'm doing well. The pain meds are helping. I'm getting in liquids just not as much as the doc wants. Yesterday I had about 24oz and the doc wants 48oz of clear liquids. I'm urinating more than 3 times a day so I figure I'm hydrated. It's really weird that I can physically feel how small my stomach is now. I'm stuck in my recliner and really want my bed. I'm able to walk around the house several times a day. I think I'm doing ok but I just wish I could sleep in my own bed. Last night I slept longer than any other time since the surgery. Just wanted to give my update.

yoga-now my port hurts (sore) HELP

I do yoga with some pilates several times a week starting 6 wks post op. At first I was nervaous about my port and a bit sore, but this passed quickly and I can do yoga as I did before I was banded with no pain or complications. I would start slowly and enjoy!

yoga-now my port hurts (sore) HELP

I do Yoga-Pilates - just 2 hours per week. I went back into it VERY slowly, or should I say carefully. Yes, I did get a little sore when I started, the first week was quite sore. The area felt quite warm too until the next day. I took it really easy the next week and its been fine ever since. I finally got to start on my weights/treadmill (nothing too drastic LOL) and the first day my port was really, pinchy and sore, but this settled very quickly too. I think perhaps both times I just needed to stretch into it and it was a shock to my system!

    yay!!

WOW! I have found 3 ways to measure my success - the scale, measurements, and the way my clothes look. I too weigh everyday since I track it to see patterns. But, I try not to lose heart and little ups and downs since I have other things to measure against. Last night, I tried on a new pair of shorts I bought. I could not believe the thin woman looking back at me in the mirror. It was like seeing me in high school again (well, minus the gray hairs and the facial wrinkles LOL). WOW! What a great feeling. I'm sure you were the same seeing your t-shirt being lose. Isn't it AWESOME?!?!?!?

    Firecrackers...how we doing?

Hey Tracy! I think a lot of people have stalls, and then there are a few of us that just keep on trucking. I am super glad I am in the latter group, except, I'm having skin issues already, and I still have 80 pounds to goal. I started out at 310, and hit 250 on Saturday! I'm thrilled with my weight loss, but not so much about the loose skin. Keep your chin up, you're doing great!!!

    More Confused Than Before

I had my surgery in early July. I have been off my diabetes meds since the surgery, and my blood sugar has consistently been pretty normal - around 80-90 before meals and generally under 150 a couple of hours post-meal (for example, tonight's post-dinner reading was 131). I'm due for my regular testing, so we'll see what the results look like for that! At this point, I even have the occasional small serving of whole-wheat Pasta, steel cut oatmeal, brown rice or whole-grain bread with no ill effects. I've also had small bites of my husband's dessert, or a small piece of chocolate once a week or so, as long as I've also had enough Protein and gotten a reasonable amount of produce in.
  22. Hi there, just after some help! Im on day 5 post Sleeve and had the worst 3 days vomiting blood. Only today have i been able to keep anything down. Ive managed approx 1&1/2 litres max. But i am so weak and shaky. Is this normal what im feeling ? If people could share with me what they were going through it would help to know im not loosing my mind or becoming dehydrated. Thanks everyone ?
  23. Hi I am 1 and 1/2 years out from surgery and mostly get compliments and good stuff my way. Last week a good friend said, "geesh, you look so thin!" He doesn't want me to lose more weight -- that actually made me feel good, and I took it as motivation actually. Even if people say I don't need to lose weight, I told them I need to get to goal, which was a healthy BMI and that usually ended the conversation. On the other hand, almost all of us know of people who had WLS and regained weight. Take it as a challenge for yourself NOT to do that. It scares me to no end to gain back weight. That can be a GOOD thing actually. I say to myself, "ok you've been given this new body, NOW what are you going to do with it? We've been given a gift, and I look at it that way and not many people are given a second chance at a body. So take it as a scary challenge for something you vow not to do. It's not always a bad thing to hear of those who regain weight. Apparently it is a possibility (not sure of stats with the sleeve though). Ok, so let's do all we can to put practices into place for us to succeed and not fail! I admit there are days I eat badly and I yell at myself. I made a deal with a coworker that I would let her know everytime I was one ounce above goal weight, and so far I have had to confess one time only. This is a good thing knowing I need to fess up. Good luck with your continued weight loss and getting to that healthy BMI!
  24. Well…not to rain on your parade but I figured I would tell you my experience with DM. I was taking 2 oral medications before surgery and stopped both the day before the sleeve. My first 3 month lab had an A1c at 5.3 so I was ecstatic. Then at the 6 month labs the A1c jumped to 6.7 so I started back on Metformin. Next month I will get the 9 month labs and anticipate my A1c 6.0 or lower. I am happy to only be on one medication. I know there is NO cure for DM. WLS will buy one time off meds and that is the reality.

    just dont know.

Hey everyone- im 10 days post op and lost quickly in the first week. Seems to be slow now and Im kinda getting discouraged. Im happy with the weight I did lose but Im starving all the time and I yet to find my filler. Today I made chicken riggies for my family and i mashed up some chicken and im eating that now. I havent felt nausea or sick yet so is it too early to start eating. I have been on liquids and had mashed pot yesterday- does anyone know why I shouldnt be eating this or is it going to harm me. I need help starting to have doubts and my struggle is just yet to begin. Please help...thanks guys
