    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Thinking about returning to work this week... had surgery on 6/25 and I feel great. Only taking Tylenol 800mg once a day, no pain, no issue getting liquids down, and feeling good energy wise. Spent yesterday and today at church programs and didn’t feel any different from my normal self. Only having issues with head hunger and wanting to have soft/puréed foods; although I’m on restriction to clear liquids til 7/10

I just want a dang cigarette

Was the Nicotine Pacification worth it? Strongly Doubt it and as a person who ulcerated for other reasons, you may pay Billy Hob getting it healed. 9 of my 10 after- surgery months and some days I doubt it is better. Gastro Gastroenterologist did one,on me June 12th, stated my jejunem was patent, so was my proximal ileum, did he address my personal dictator, Ms Precious Pouch and her condition? Nope just inflated and pushed himself through to what he felt was Victory. No follow-up at his office, not even an assessment after PCP reviewed it. And if one more technician smiles and tells ME "we'll give your Doctor the report" I shall rise like a Science Fiction Horror movie star right up off the bed. Its my flippin' body, BRING ME INTO THE LOOP!

    Swallowing Rocks

Nor will I and sad to say I am still farther out. Frustrating part, my Bariatric Clinic practices Benign Neglect at this point, at 10 months for them, the thrill is gone, out of sight, out of their minds. I'm 50 miles away, THEY CANT HEAR ME! Local hospital here regards me as a purple spotted giraffe, interesting but have no real advice. Like many others in the Animal Kingdom, interesting but no real clue to help me. If this is the restriction they talked about for RNY it can take a flying leap, I never have thirst satisfaction.
  4. My SIL came to stay with me after surgery for a few days. She came the day before surgery and was there for 3 days after. I had sleeve and was in the hospital 1 night (they let me out around 7PM the following day). My doc required someone to be home with me for 24 hours after I stopped narcotics (although I stopped the narcotics when I left the hospital). I don't think I would have needed someone there all day, but it was nice. Help I needed: I needed help lifting things (so doing laundry, taking out the trash, etc). Couldn't lift more than 10# for 6 weeks after surgery. After SIL left, my neighbor helped me with the trash You can't drive until you have the narcotics out of your system for 24 hours, and my doc doesn't like people driving for 2 weeks (I was so sore, I wouldn't have been comfortable with my reaction time if something had happened while driving), so she drove me around if I need it for the first few days. But I really didn't need to leave the house - for my follow-ups, I took Uber. I didn't need the following, and could have done all of this myself, but it was nice to have someone else thinking for me in the first few days when my brain was scrambled from anesthesia (NOT common, but I do not do well with anesthesia😞 My bedroom is on the 3rd floor of my house. She helped make sure I was OK getting up there . She kept track of my liquid/protein intake and would remind me to sip every 15 minutes or so (she created a great tracking system that I used for about a month or two after surgery) She'd prompt me to walk and track how far we went. Walked about 4-5 times a day, around the block of my townhomes - so each lap was about 500ft of walking. I bet I wouldn't have walked nearly as much if she wasn't here Helped me remember to use my spirometer.

    Revision to RNY

10 kgs is 10 kilograms. It is how we measure weight here in Australia - using the metric system. 10 kgs is equivalent to about 22 lbs.

    Almost 5 yrs out

Well firstly the overhang does suck but I hope to get that removed at some point in the future I'm definitely at that point now I can feel my ribs through my lack of better term nipples so there's literally no muscle or fat underneath my chest whatsoever and just this kind of circle around my belly where I get ulcers and things underneath if I'm not sure to keep it extremely clean. But back to your concern about portions. How much can you eat now it'll you weren't portioning for diet purposes? I can at best eat what a 10 yr old eats still to this day. My wife still tries to serve be a huge bowl of spaghetti (happened yesterday lol) but I can only eat maybe 4 or 5 bites or go glacial slow. Spaghetti is the hardest thing for me to process still. However I did find whole wheat noodle are much easier. My portions were never a problem after the operation. If i went over it was right back up. Tbh I pushed my limits beyond what I would ever recommend I have spent 5 yrs throwing up. I do almost everyday still. But it's getting better as my body adapts to food again. Still can't do rice and chicken is a crap shoot at best. But yes you can do it. It's all in your head. You have seen just how little you HAVE to eat to survive. Make up your mind. And don't give up..... ever and you will succeed. It's not if you fail. It's if you continue on after a failure Sent from my SM-G920V using BariatricPal mobile app

    Almost 5 yrs out

Thank you, hmwilcox578. Yes, I AM alive! And Id like to stay that way. So, you think it's doable to lose 150#'s this late? I mean, any lose is very good and putting the right foods in my body will certainly be good for me regardless. I'm actually very excited (and pessimistic at the same time this late in the game) to start over. Having my wonderful husband, bestest friend support me in this (it doesn't hurt that he recently got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and HAS to eat right) is a massive weight off my shoulders. He was a cook all his life, now retired, and he does all the cooking, VERY imaginative, talented and now educated. We're starting our journey on July 3. Me, a little more strict, but he's now willing to break things down (measurements) for me, in the dinner area. I'm again trying MFP to track myself as well as a food journal. But finding the updated MFP to be hard to understand but I'll get it. If I can survive and flourish with my mental illnesses, I would certainly hope I can do this! I'll be doing EMDR with this issue. My therapist is Awesome, loyal, relentless, educated and we really have a great relationship of 10 years. Lots more work ahead of us. I'm just trying to get peoples' input on using bariatric portions after 4 years of (other peoples') normal to large portions I've been eating. I mean, I don't eat much, but, the wrong things. I'm looking for answers? to whether bariatric portions is advisable so late in the game. If it will work, I'm ALL for doing it. Just don't know because I've never seen on here a situation exactly like mine. I should see my surgeon but I am deeply terrified. Trying to talk myself into it, but as you may well know, the Mind plays tricks. More work in therapy I guess. I'm SO proud of your major accomplishment and continued success! YOU must be very, very proud. It must suck having overhang. That would get on my nerves, but the alternative is that it's full of fat, which it's not. Yay! Be proud and shine like you did here, you deserve the attention and praise. Plus, you give hope to people like me. Keep on with the great success!
  10. Doing my two week pre op Liquid meals and I must admit that after two days, it’s still tuff! Lol You soon learn that not wanting to eat and being REQUIRED not to eat can play with your mind. You start noticing that every other commercial is showing food!! Lmao! You really have to have a strong constitution and be committed to becoming a healthier you. All I know is that on July 12th 2019, I’m having my Surgery! (Gastric Bypass). For those struggling like me on the pre op liquids, take it one day at a time and believe you can get through it!
  11. So I'm coming up on 5 years since my gastric bypass operation. I weighed 384 lbs the day of my procedure, as of today I have now broke 170 lbs range that's with the excess skin still hanging on there lol which I assume is probably around another 10 to 12 pounds. Its has been a struggle but worthwhile I look at myself in the mirror and feel like just got out of a concentration camp... Sent from my SM-G920V using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Again, well done and you look and are amazing! Something I observed today, I was talking with a group of women that have not had surgery. I had been obese for years and I remember how I felt when thinner people would complain about 10-20 pounds. I rolled my eyes because I had 100 pounds to lose. It’s amazing, heathy people also have body issues.

Peanut Butter Has Ruined My Life

And it turned out to be one of the things Precious Pouch refuses to continance. But I have not given up hope, just this week she conceded to allow Greek Yogurt after 10 months of vehement refusal. So perhaps banana and Peanut Butter will return. Before my surgery Greek Yogurt, Cottage Cheese, Peanut Butter, the Good Kind, I live near Columbus Ohio, the home of Krema P. Butter, so fresh it separates into oil and solids, learned as a Small Frustr8 to screw on the lid tightly, and store it up side down. And when it is time to eat some , turn it upward, stir it with your table knife, spread it on good homemade whole wheat 🍞 bread, nothing better unless you slice bananas on it! Yum Yum to infinity and beyond! And I was an EXCELLENT BREAD MAKER if I do say so, one sandwich of that filled me well enough I didn't munch between meals. Don't know if my bossy little turkey- egg of gastric Flesh will let those days EVER to RETURN? But as the old song goes, and YES I AM OLD " Ah Yes, I remember it well!"

    Surgery Date

So I started this journey in November 2018 and finally received my surgery date on June 28 for September 19 I’m nervous and excited to start this new life journey.
  15. Well I did mine for the entire month of August 2018. i did get a little out of energy about 4'5 days in but then my b9dy caugh5 it's "second wind" as long as I kept my fluids up and didn't try running, jogging ( which 8 barely can do with 2 replaced knees) or moving fast i didn't do too bad. I. also real8zed that I was permitted one 300 calorie or less meal in the evening, after nearly toppling over, I started adding it in the first Saturday, before that I was putting me through total liquid before. Did it work? Oh Yeah, I lost 15 pounds, took my liver from fat N.A.S.H.-hood to smooth sleek healthy LIVERHOOD,ME AT 72 with natural Basal Metabolism Rate of a Sick Sea 🐌 Slug. Since my liver was small and pliable my surgeon Didn't have to use the Industrial strength and Sized liver retractor, easier for him, easier recovery for me. Would I do it again? Yep for the rewards are so worth it! At almost 10 months, will be on July 5th, I have gone from a Surgery Weight of 319 to 198.7, now out of Plus sizes and into 18-20, mostly all 18 top and bottom after starting at 28-30W basically the largest Wally World carried, and many of my sweats which I pretty much lived in ,that and a few t-shirts were mens 4x. So I am D***Proud of an 18, my looks in mirrors have changed so much I barely recognize myself any more but I have bought myself some more years, even if I growl a little at times, it beats being planted underground, only being a memory or picture on the wall, oh no MY. ornery strawberry blonde self is still here mak8ng my way to what ever God has planned for men And I will never be counted out, deprecated or ignored again! I may not be Living Large but I live grateful for the chance to live, vibrantly and with a SMILE 😝on my face.

  18. My original date of June 17 had to be cancelled because I failed my stress test, which in turn caused the surgery to be postponed. Everything’s OK now & I officially have a new date! July 22nd awaits! I’m excited, nervous & pumped all at once. The countdown begins!
  19. Hi! I’m brand new here! I’m having a VSG on July 9th and my husband is completely NOT supportive and keeps telling me I’ll regret it. I’m only 5 feet and 1 inch and weigh 215 and I am SO ready for this! Any advice? Thanks so much! Jennifer
  20. I just had a bypass as a revision from a sleeve. It was done about 6 weeks ago, and the sleeve about 10 years ago. I had terrible reflux basically since the sleeve was done, as well as a hiatus hernia. I have had zero reflux since the bypass was done! It definitely worked for me.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

So, I'm finally ready to post a recent photo--actually taken just a few minutes ago. Here I am after losing 90 pounds from my pre-surgery weight and 76 pounds since surgery. Most people say I should stop, but I want to lose another 10-20 pounds. (I'll know when I'm at the right weight.) I have been looking for a "fat" photo to show the difference, but I can't find one. I almost never allowed myself be photographed at my highest weight. Trust me, I look really different now!

    July 2019

I had my pre-op appointment today! I got my labs, EKG, and chest x-ray done. I also got my pre-op diet, post op diet, and surgery instructions. I start pre-op diet on 7/10, and surgery is 7/24. It’s finally starting to feel real!!

    ❤JULY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

I'm on board too... June has been kind of hit and miss for me. The 3 week stall really got in my head and, combined with other unpleasant post op stuff, I sort of lost focus. I need to get myself recentered and up my activity level. I'm hopeful that the stall is maybe busted and that the scale will start moving again. And while I don't have the equipment to do all the exercises listed, my arms need a lot of work. Me in a nutshell: RnY mid-May 2019 Current weight: 215.8lb July Goals: Walk 5km (using nordic walking poles) five days a week Do arm workouts/photo challenge daily Participate in Camp NaNo (a creative writing challenge... 25000 words in 31 days) Look super-awesome at my hubs' high school reunion

    🏆2 yr Anniversary on BP🏆

10 years. I wanted surgery long ago, but my insurance wouldn't cover it. Not until I became disabled and got Medicare would I have surgery. I'm now just over 4 months out and 65 pounds down. Wish I could have had surgery sooner, but better late than never!
  25. I was sleeved February 15th at a weight of 228, I had lost 10 pounds the previous week while on a low carb pre-op diet.  By mid-March I was around 215, mid-April I weighed around 210, mid-May around 205 and mid-June around 202.  So I have been losing very slowly even though I have been very active and watching what I eat.  The last 2 weeks has been really odd as I was in Singapore for work and lost .5kg during the week, usually I gain on work trips.  Then since being home the last 6 days I have lost 5 pounds.  I have not seen this consistent weight loss since the first 10 days of surgery.  I am thinking my body is finally giving up on holding onto the extra weight.  I kept telling myself that at some point my weight has to go down, my calories are regularly around 900-1,100 calories per day.

The good thing about this slow losing - no one has questioned my weight loss since it appears very slow and natural.  Other than my husband no one knows I had surgery and I intend to keep it that way.
