I really want to cheat on this preop!!

Regarding your comment "with the band I can eat"... post op you will be on a liquid diet for however long your doctor says, and you MUST NOT cheat on that diet. That diet is so that your band can heal properly in place so that you avoid slippage in the future. You wont even be able to have the lettuce and the vegetables you've already been having. I don't mean to lecture, but it's only been 10 days, and I know at least my post op liquid diet was 3 weeks (between clears and fulls). Then mushies.

    Post Op And Hungry

Im only 10 days in and i feel the same way..Im so hungry and aggravated. I get full drinking the liquids but a little while later im hungry again. I dont know what to do. I thought about starting mushies a little early. can you do that? Another thing I lost 10 pounds the first 5 days after surgery which Im thinking might have been water weight.. Now my weight is going between 263 and 264 and not really doing anything is that normal? Help
  4. I am on day two of my preop liquid diet and so far I have tried the orange cream by bariatric advantage and banana cream and they make me so nauseated I can hardly stand it! I don't even want to drink water after drinking them! My tummy aches and feels so sick! Any suggestions or help please? I am wondering how I am going to survive the before and after liquid diet if I can't tolerate the protein shakes??
  5. has anyone else out there had to be on just protein shakes and water preop for 10 days and how did you do it? What did you drink for 10 days that was acceptable to your surgeon?? I appreciate any advice I can get.
  6. The wait usually depends on the insurance requirements you have to meet. In my instance, I went to my first seminar Oct. 29, got an appointment to see the surgery Nov. 6, decided on the sleeve and was approved on Nov. 10, as long as all my tests came back ok. I chose to be sleeved on Dec. 29th, as it gave me enough time to get all my testing done before the date I selected to be operated. Today my Dr. turned in my clearance forms and I'm officially good to go for the 29th!!!!

    Starbucks?

Bulletproof with stevia & monk fruit powder for me. To get my coconut oil/butter through security I freeze it and pull it out right before I leave. The baristas will look at you funny but 9 times out of 10 when I ask them to dump my Americano in the blender with my stuff, they do it. You can add unflavored Protein powder to it and have the same protein/calories as a Protein shake with none of the carbs but this is not for the fat-averse. 8. I want to back out I’m so scared of having my SVG surgery in 2 days. My doctor is going to be upset at me. I have Gerd now and I’m afraid to have it later. I don’t want to go through another surgery afterwards. If I were to do the sleeve would I need another surgery 10 to 20 years down the line?

    day 2 and cant pee!!

It takes time for those muscles to "wake up" after anesthesia for some people. The catheter also can cause things to either swell or temporarily paralyze. These things DO resolve, it just takes a little time. Narcotic pain medications make it difficult to urinate as well. Just do what they tell you to do, be patient and stay positive. Drink your fluids as much as you can, as being well hydrated will help wake things up. Walk walk walk, which also helps wake things up. And see how little pain medication you can get away with and still have a pain level no higher than 3-4 on a scale of 1-10.
  10. I am 10 Weeks out and take a colace at least once a day. I had helped so much with going to the bathroom.
  11. I weighed 6 lbs heavier 3 days post op!!! I was still full of IV fluids. Let this first week be focused on rest and getting fluids so your body can recover from the surgery. The weight loss will happen. After 3 days I was able to get in enough fluids to stop retaining that Water and proceeded to drop about 10 lbs over the next 2 weeks. It wont happen overnight, but it will happen...

    What am I doing wrong?

I am nearly the same for wt loss at 13 days post-op. I lost 10 on pre-op liquids and 5 at my 1 week post-op weigh-in. I too am not taking in much nutrition, ab 400 calories, ab 45gr protein and 40oz water. I intend to increase my protein and water as much as I can, but it is hard to do. We have to hang in there and keep going. I am consuming some pureed cottage cheese, pureed tuna and avocado, and ricotta bake - small small amounts. As well as a shake and some Isopure clear protein drink. And sf chocolate pudding did not sit well at all - so that is off my list - who knows why. Your hunger could be acid reflux. I am def NOT hungry, could care less about food - but not fond of passing out either lol.

I had it really bad for a couple of days, about 7-9 days post-op. And it was BAD. But it subsided, and now at 10 weeks out, I have the reverse issue

    Now what?

Hi everyone, I was banded in February 2011. I was down 175 lbs the first year and a half, I was completely motivated and working my butt off to get where I wanted to be. I was at my sweet spot, completely satisfied and happy with my progress. About a year ago, I started getting sick every time I would eat anything. I called the doctor, he took some Fluid out, and I was okay again. 5 months ago the same thing started happening again, only now in the middle of the night I would wake up choking, and throwing up black liquids. Honestly, the first time this happened, I had a small brownie that afternoon so didn't think to much about it. Only, over the next few months this would happen 3-4 nights per week (and I can guarantee I have not touched another brownie since that day). About 3 weeks ago I finally broke down and called the doctor because it was not getting any better. He brought me right in, completely emptied my band and sent me over for more testing (barium swallow). I found out that day I had a slip. He says its very possible all of the throwing up was the cause, and he told me we would see what happened over the next 3 weeks and see if the problem fixed itself. So, I went back for another barium swallow, and apparently it didn't change, I've still been throwing up, so he wants to remove the band, and put another one in at the same time if he can. Now I'm scared, I don't know what I should do, and I know it's quite obvious that I need something, and I was very happy with my band. From the time 3 weeks ago that he emptied my band until I went back, I had gained 10 lbs, so I can't wait to much longer to make up my mind. My surgery is scheduled for next week. Advice?
  19. It's hard to believe when it's happening to you, but stalls do break. This first one lasted for 10 days. I dropped 2 pounds overnight. Let's see how long the loosing lasts.

Calling All Men To The Man Room!

I am still here. Just don't have alot of time to keep up. I had surgery in August of last year with Dr. Almanza in Mexico. I am down an even 150 pounds from 386 to 236. I still go to the gym at least 4 days a week and am in better shape than I have been in 20 years.I want to lose about 40 more pounds, but don't really know when or where it will stop. The last few months have slowed down considerably from the first 4 months around 25 pounds a month to about 10 to 12 pounds a month. Good luck. I think anyone at least 100 pounds over weight should consider being sleeved.

    Pre-op testing

Yesterday was my pre-op testing/physical. The doc says I'm healthy as a horse and should have no problem going thru the surgery. YEAH! Today was my pre-op dietician/nurse class. My wonderful hubby took off work to go with me. He is AWESOME and has been so involved in the whole process. I could not ask for a better support system. 10 days until my surgery. WOW, time is flying! I'm a little nervous about the surgery, not about whether or not I should do the surgery but instead just nervous about the pain that may follow. Other than that I am SO EXCITED and SO READY to begin this new journey to better health and a better ME....I DESERVE IT!

    Losing Hair

I've been losing hair slowly for five months....I also can't seem to get near the required 60-80 g. of protein a day. My question is, will I continue to lose hair until I DO get that much protein a day or will my body eventually adjust to my new diet. I'm 10 months post-op....and luckily no one else notices my hair loss yet...just me; but if this should continue....
  24. mine was only an hour, but 18 months out, I should have taken it more seriously. 3 months into my band, I left my wife of 10 years for obvious reasons. Got invovled with someone else. Then some more as I lost weight even more. in May of this year things got out of control and I tried to kill myself. THen in Sept. I tried to do it again. Spent some time in the hospital, now my band is messed up because of what I did. And my life is no better. So please take your eval seriously. I have lost 180 lbs total with the band.
  25. Maybe I'm just here for moral support, hopefully someone will turn a sympathetic ear my way. Here goes... I was banded in May 2007, at the time I weighed 330 lbs. By September 2007 I had lost 90 lbs and weighed 240 lbs. I never got a fill because I was losing weight so good, I figured I'd wait till I needed it. Then I got pregnant... Over the course of the pregnancy I gained a whopping 10 lbs, but when I weighed myself a week after baby I weighed 235. I had the baby in May 2008. The story is sounding good so far, right? Over the past 6 months I have not gotten a fill and some lbs have crept back on. I now weigh about 253. I know I need to schedule a fill but, I'm scared! :rolleyes2: I've never had one and I'm paranoid now that all my regular eating over pregnancy and the past six months has broken the band... you know - a flipped port that's somehow infected plus a stretched pouch and all sorts of things I have made up in my head. I just keep thinking it won't work or something is going to be wrong.. Any words of motivation so I can call and schedule my fill? My goal is to get to 200 lbs, although 180 would be really nice. Thanks for listening... Maryum
