Very low heart rate
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to Tony B - NJ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm 4 weeks post op, and I've noticed my heart rate has dropped, as well. Before surgery I was always sitting at 68-73 bpm. Now I'm at 60-64 bpm. Nothing crazy, but I noticed when I work out and my heart rate used to go to like 110 or 115, it now goes to like 98 - 103 or so. So I'm just keeping an eye on it and if i dips to what is considered too low, I will consult my cardiologist (my PCP isn't worried right now, so at least there's that). My surgeon said it's normal because as we drop weight and get healthier, our hearts don't have to work as hard. -

I just had my first meeting with the surgeon and I am getting very anxious. After studying the three surgeries available I met with the doctor and after a long conversation he convinced me the LapBand was not the best choice and that I should consider the Gastric Bypass. Looking at the facts I had to agree with the surgeon. Here are my particulars: male, weight 240, age 70, height 5' 8", currently using Rybilsus to control my type 2. Having read the book from the weight loss surgery program, I am now frightened, anxious, afraid and overwhelmed! How do I move forward? Sent from my SM-P610 using BariatricPal mobile app

I’m at the hospital waiting to start my pre-anesthesia stuff. My surgery is one week from today. I started full liquid eating plan yesterday. Want to know what I’m most freaked out about? (Of course you do 😂) getting a negative COVID test on Monday afternoon. 😳 I teach in a middle school, our cases have increased from zero about 2 months ago to a couple dozen now. I’ve gone back to wearing a mask. 😷 I’ve never stopped keeping everything in my room scrupulously clean…I’m always cleaning desks, chairs, door handles and washing my hands. -
sleeve vs bypass
gaddbaby replied to bandproblems's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hello! I recently had band to bypass conversion. My surgeon explained the benefits and success rates of both and suggested the bypass. At 2 weeks post-op, I'm happy with my decision. Best of luck to you on your journey. -
Love it!! That is so cool that y’all were able to meet up!! I’m still hoping we can all get together for a BP reunion of sorts!! Great pic! All three look fab!

1 week until my liquid diet starts 😁 I am so excited! Even for that! Anyway what brands are you guys using as far as protein shake? Other stuff? I bought the Equate High Performance protein ready to drink shakes in chocolate, vanilla, latte, and caramel. I also bought the Two Good yogurt in assorted flavors. Sugar free pudding cups, and all the varieties of sugar free jello cups. On my list of need to buys is; broth and flavor packets for water. On a side note, I found about 4 kinds of Jordan's Skinny Syrups at Bealls Outlet store for $3.99 a bottle, just in case yall have that store in your area and are interested. I hear the syrups are good for flavoring shakes and etc. -

Hi guys! I just finished 2 weeks of 4 shakes and 1 small meal (3 oz protein, 1 cup steamed veg) per day and heading to surgery for VSG tomorrow (still waiting on arrival time). I'm a nurse practitioner (completely different department) in the hospital where I'll have surgery so some nerves about that, nerves about whether I'll be able to get up and walk when I want to, how high my pain tolerance will be, etc. Also never had general anesthesia so we'll see how that goes, hopefully no reaction. I've been walking a lot for exercise so I want to be able to jump off the table and get right back into it but I know I'll have a little bit of a setback as far as my exercise tolerance goes. They said as long as I'm not doing inclines I can get back on the treadmill as soon as I want, so that's encouraging. The surgery coordinator prepared me that the first two weeks generally aren't fun for anyone but that there's a light at the end of that tunnel. I hate being nauseated but I tolerated being on Saxenda for almost a year so I think I can handle some postop nausea. Other fears: weighing myself for the first time after surgery (apparently there's a 3 week plateau and some people don't lose and it can be discouraging, so IDK when to weigh for the first time), being really thirsty and not being able to drink, not being able to get in enough liquids by mouth to stay hydrated, not being able to have a BM, having people I know see me and know why I'm admitted, vomiting after surgery, "taste buds changing" (I've heard this from some post ops) .... let me know if there's anything else I should be worried about so I can do so prior to surgery -
Gastric Balloon Biggest challenge so far
Ana Oliveira posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my orbera balloon inserted on May 20th (day of my birthday actually). Went well, luckily I didn't experience any vomiting, thank god I heard that is very common for most people. The most I felt in the first few days was stomach cramping and feeling very weak with no energy. I am on day 11 now. My stomach has been able to tolerate everything ive been eating. This past weekend (memorial weekend) I tried grilled fish and grilled chicken for the first time and it went very well. Very little got me satisfied quickly. I also had a little of mash potatoes and veggies. Honestly for me the toughest challenge has been mentally. I think most of our society revolves around food and drinking. For me I was in bbqs as it was memorial day weekend and thats basically most of what people are doing and it was rough. I ate chicken and fish as I mentioned but I was craving the red meats and garlic breads, as well as having a drink. As per my research seemed like the month mark is when things go back to somewhat normal where you can eat red meat and drink (moderately) again, so until then I think best to avoid some social settings as everyone around is stuffing their face, drinking, and having fun and your torturing yourself watching. Thats how I felt over the weekend. I know it will change once I I get to that month mark, but I will avoid these for the next 2.5 weeks. -
Hi everyone, I had lap band surgery in 2010 and went from 330 lbs to about 215 in 2016, however, I started having some problems with the band where I could barely eat or drink anything and kept loosing weight rapidly. Went to the doctor and they did an upright xray with contrast and you could see that everything was stuck in the esophagus. The doctor said the band had to come out. Obviously I didn't want that and begged them to remove all fluid from the band and wait another week but that did not help. It turned out that there was a lot of scar tissue from the band around where it was installed. The doctor wanted to do a conversion during the band removal but the insurance did not approve since I was 'too skinny' and did not qualify. I asked the hospital if I could pay the difference between removal and doing the sleeve since they already had me there and all the staff, etc. but was told it was not possible and it would be $24,000 which I could not afford. After the removal I gained all the weight back and now I am between 320-325 lbs again. I had been with two employers since then but like most of them they specifically exclude bariatric surgery nowadays. Now I am with a new employer and they will apparently pay for it. [sorry for the long background story] I am consider whether to get a sleeve or bypass. After doing a lot of research I think a sleeve would be better since it is less intrusive and the stomach function pretty much remains intact and you don't have to take medication for the rest of your life. What do you all suggest?

I know many people really like Baritastic, but I have more than 12 years of data on MFP and I am comfortable using it, so I don't want to change... I think I'm going to track calories this week to see if I can lose the 2 lbs I gained on my trip and then see from there. -

I'm struggling losing weight
catwoman7 replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
stalls typically last 1-3 weeks, but it's not unheard of for them to last longer. Just stick to your plan and your weight loss will eventually start up again. Stay off the scale if it's messing with your head too much. -
June surgeries? Tell me your preparations
FutureSylph replied to Songbyrd420's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I went overboard with prep spending. (I'm a bit of a control freak, and that was my way of dealing with pre-op jitters/fear of the unknown.) One of the best things I bought: a 16-month planner with squares big enough to write in surgical appointments, weeks since surgery, diet change days, etc. Two things I wish I'd decided against: portion cups in various sizes (I used a grand total of about 25, not 200 each of three sizes!) and a big stockpile of protein shakes which I now can't abide. -
I am a few weeks away from my 3 month anniversary and still struggle with an upset stomach when I eat. I also have the "foamies" and wondered if anyone has found anything that helps with that? I no longer take Tums or Pepto. Should I start with them again? I do take Prilosec daily though. Protein seems to upset my stomach the most. Question: How are you all doing with eating cooked vegetables with skins on them? Should I peel first? I haven't tried any yet and am worried about how my tummy will respond to peelings even though they are cooked. I love me some grilled succinic!

To count or not to count (calories)
lizonaplane replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Unfortunately, this wouldn't really work for me as I eat most of my meals out due to work travel. I'm always "guestimating" what I am eating, but usually that is not an issue if I make good choices. At home I do make recipes in MyFitnessPal and know exactly what I'm eating. But that's only 1-2 days a week most weeks. -
To count or not to count (calories)

I just came back from a two-week overseas vacation. I decided not to track calories because I had no idea what was in food and I wanted to try different things, like a bite of this or that that my family was eating. I ate way too many sweets, but I also noticed that because I was not "tracking to eat" (usually I serve myself a portion then add it into the tracker and finish it), I was focusing on my hunger (that's not to say I wasn't eating too much, because I was. I ended up gaining about 2 lbs over the two weeks, which is a LOT less than before surgery, when I might gain 10 lbs on a two week overseas vacation. I found that I enjoyed focusing on my hunger cues, and I am thinking about not counting calories, but I have read so much about how tracking calories is the best predictor of success in weight loss and maintenance. I am wondering if I can focus on eating healthier foods and honoring my hunger, can I continue to lose weight and then maintain? What have other people found? -
I think my pee smells like protein too. I am about 9 weeks post op though. It is strange but is what it is.

Hi, all: my surgery date is a week from tomorrow. Today starts my last week at school. I will be out of there 3 days before the ‘official’ end of school. Today starts my 5 shakes a day and 2 snacks. I’m looking forward to the discipline of that. I am most compliant with fewer choices as opposed to more. Wishing everyone best wishes on their upcoming surgeries. Today I have a tele-visit at 4pm to go over pre-procedure actions. Tomorrow I am out of school for pre-anesthesia testing. Wishing you all a great day! ❤️ -
Thank you for your input! I am experimenting now and I’ll have a better indication of how things are going this week. It’s great that your body responds like that. You’ve found your formula!

😊 Yes, thank you…I started that a few days ago and will wait until the end of the week to weigh myself. I increased calories by 150 or so.
