    Newbie in research stage

In the United States a lot of people see the surgeon at the bariatric program first, then begin progressing through the motions of pre-op, and somewhere in that whole circus go to their primary care doctors and get the required referral. Insurance requires the PCP letter (not an issue in Canada obviously) and the surgeon also generally requires it for his own purpose. I highly doubt your PCP will refuse to issue a letter of referral once you are any more than knee deep with the bariatric program. I attended a weight loss information session and within two weeks of that I was able to see a surgeon in the same hospital as the one that gave the session. That is another way in.

    Pre-op diet....here I come!

Hello I know how you feel im on the 2 week per-op diet now it the end of my first week and its very hard now started of go but now i want food tired of liquids I hope this next week of liquid go real fast for me Im being band on oct 1, I cant wit until its all over.Your lucky that you have your cousin supporting you good luck and i hope you all well.
  5. So I start my two week liquid diet on Monday the 24th. I am so scared. It only took 3 days for my insurance to approve my surgery and that was back in August. I set my surgery date for Oct. 8 thinking that is so far away. Well guess what people, it’s almost here. I stay up at night just thinking about the liquid diet and what I'm going to eat and what I'm going to miss. I have been having that last supper syndrome, but not too bad. I have only been focusing on my favorite foods and not stuffing myself. Like I had to have a cheeseburger and fries from my favorite restaurant yesterday and I will have to get in McDonalds fries and a vanilla shake. I'll have to get in buffalo wings and some Mexican food of course cuz that is like my favorite. I need some cold stone ice cream and the list goes on. But all before Monday!! I have been practicing chewing for days and not drinking liquids with my meals. Do you know how hard that is? But I'm lucky; I have two of my favorite cousins doing the liquid diet with me. One has already had bypass but the other is doing it just to support me. That is so sweet. We'll see how long she lasts. Anyhow, thanks for listening.
  6. You can have cheese six weeks post op. I began taking flaxseed and Omega threes but I waited till after the six weeks. Thes come in capsules so they melt before they have to go through the band. This has been okay

    Just got approved! YIKES!

Wow that was quick! Congrats! Have you had time to research everything and have all your questions answered? I am 8 months out and new questions form every week. This is a great place to come for some insight. Not all doc's require the pre-op but it seems like most do. A low-carb type diet (minus all the high fat stuff) is about what mine required. Congrats again.

    Week 3?
  9. I'm 18 years old. I've been overweight since I was little. I've come to the conclusion that I am obsessed with food. Any diet I've tried (and believe me, I've tried them all) I would give in and cheat. I'd fail miserably every time. I couldn't be in front of food without having any. If someone were to ask me if anyone wanted "seconds" I'd be the only one to say yeah. At a buffet I'd go up three or four times. Anyway.. 2weeks ago I started my liquid diet (pre op diet). And let me tell you how proud I am of myself. I did not cheat once.I had a "last supper" three days before the liquid diet started. But since then I've lost a few pounds and only stuck to what the doctor told me. Last week I was at a labor day party. There was sooo much food and I didn't even touch it! I was so happy and proud of myself because I didn't see where this self control came from. But to be honest, I was just in the kitchen and I was sooo tempted to get a bag of chips. And I even went to eat slices of cheese. I had the knife in my hand and I was ready to give in. But it instantly hit me that my surgery is on tuesday!! I've been waiting for this for 5years. I couldn't bring myself to screw this up. So I put away the chips and the cheese and got a jello instead.

    Weight Gain

My advice would be to only weigh yourself once a week. I drive myself crazy weighing myself too much and it's something I still struggle with. I know that I gain weight as the day goes on so I can understand the weight gain. It's definitely hard but try for once a week . You are still early out from surgery and I did experience some weight gain in the couple weeks after my surgery. Continue to eat right and eventually exercise and you should be fine . What to drink

I didn't start protein shakes until 1 week out according to my program. Only clear liquids for the first week. Call your NUT as soon as you can. Look through your paperwork, maybe you have something in there that was overlooked. I know I had to continuously refer to my sheet to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. Good Luck!!!

    New to Lapband Talk

Congratulations! Your starting weight was very close to mine (252). I lost 10 pounds on the 6 month diet my insurance required, and was put on a liquid pre-op diet that lasted 3 weeks because I caught a cold and my surgery was moved, but only by a week, not enough time to stop and start up again so I stayed on it an extra week. I found I do boring really well (the liquid diet is boring). Lost 25 on that. The rest is post-op. I don't think I ever would have been able to do this on my own. The band helped curtail portion size, and I did the rest. I always knew what to eat; I just ate too much of it (plus the pizza, subs, etc.) Now I eat healthy and the band is there to remind me if I am eating too much. I am really glad I did it. My surgeon is pretty happy with my results too.

    Timeline of exercise

Hi gang! Sleeved on the 19th. Would anyone have a good timeline of exercise that we can do on a week to week basis? For example Week one and two, just walking. I want to get back into all sorts of activities like kickboxing, yoga, horseback riding, weights, Zumba, stairmaster, spinning, cycling. Just not sure how and when to start incorporating these back into my routine. My two biggest fears, leaks and tearing sutures open. I also know that I don't want to wait 2-3 months before I can exercise again. That just seems like a really long time to wait. Any reasoable thoughts on what they did, or what advice their doctors gave them regarding exercise? I say reasonable because some are extreme in their thinking and precautions and I know I just won't follow that advice. Thanks so much!!
  15. First 6 weeks are about healing. Stay off the scale; you're not going to drop lbs like that. You didn't get fat overnight, did you? The average loss with the band is 1-2lbs a week; you're ahead of the curve.

    Pressure?

Thanks! I might just be a bit paranoid. The last surgery I had (c-section) I developed a bad infection and ended up in the hospital for about 3 weeks. Every little bit of twitch I feel like I'm freaking out. Thanks!!
  17. Hi Tiffany, I can understand your feelings. My surgery was on the the 14th and I have gone through feeling as if I made a huge mistake to wondering if I am going to be successful to wondering why I am still feeling hungry when following my plan. During my first appointment, I mentioned these feelings to the nurse practitioner and she stated those feelings are perfectly normal. As far as food and feeling hungry, I was advised that once I start on soft foods (this week), I will notice a vast difference between the liquid and puréed periods. This is is where the will work and willpower begins. I am still feeling apprehensive but let’s just take each day and process one step at a time. And if it makes sense, maybe step away from the scale for a couple of weeks until the liquid-soft food phase has passed.
  18. I agree with MIS73. We are all eager to get to our green zone and don't realize what a change that can be. My doctor is conservative and, while I get impatient, it is nice to ease into this lifestyle change. My last fill I ended up too tight and was like that for a week. It was NO fun.
  19. My Dr wsa very conservative with fills. I can tell you of at least 4-5 times I went in SURE I would get a fill... and didnt. But what I appreciated is that we discussed it and he shared his reasoning.... and in the end there was one time I stood firm... the other times I yielded to his expertise and didnt get one. The time I stood firm I was actually too tight for a few weeks so I guess I should have listened.
  20. I have had 2 fills and there really isn't any type of chage in what I could eat and how hungry I am. I have to really work at the 1200 calories and 1c of food per meal, trying to eat banded but know I could eat more. Fill 3 isn't for a few weeks so here's to hoping. My clinic is also conservative on the fills 1cc per visit. They would rather I creep up to the green zone, instead of blowing past it and having trouble and needing unfills...........I am also 6hrs from my surgeon, so need not be safe not sorry.
  21. I know this is a rather indelicate subject, but I'm either constipated or dumping and there doesn't seem to be much in between -- sometimes they both happen in ONE DAY! The constipation hasn't been bad enough to take Miralax. I'm four months and one day out today. I discussed this with my physician on my three-month check-up and they said they think it will regulate itself. I'm just weary of it. I'm at a conference and naturally I'm dumping ... so I have to run to the hotel room every once in awhile to make sure I don't have an accident. This just seems like a little much!! Any input is welcome. Onward, Carol
  22. That you for the post..we are cousins.. Sleeved on the 9th as well..larger hernia repair set me back a little but feeling awesome in the last week..I go Friday for my weight/cup..I try not o weight here at work but my clothes are falling off..that's exciting in itself!! I'm slow at dropping lbs n doctor warned me of it before surgery due to age(47) and lack of exercise..but now I walk the dusty treadmill in the basement n ready to get back to gym when cleared..gotta learn how to swim tho..lol..Thank you for your post n motivation Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  23. My breath is offensive! I brush my teeth and "swish" with Listerine every day but I think my diet is contributing to my foul breath. My husband even said something this morning. Has anyone experienced this and what have you done....surely with Christmas next week and time with family, I don't want to knock anyone over with festering odor.

    Losing my blog virginity

You've eaten a cookie once a week? is that it? gezz I've done worse!! You will come into yourself with the band in time.. I've been preached to by some really interesting folks.. some heavier than I ever thought of being, some thinner that I'll ever want to be... The best part is getting together with yourself and finding just the space you need to be in.. I was banded in January.. I struggle, I want to eat, I want to drink a glass of water, not sip it, I want it all and be a size 8!! but I ain't stupid either.. I can dream, and those dreams are turning into distance clouds.. I've lost 44 pounds (before & after surgery).. I'm stuck I think. I won't have a fill for a couple more weeks. I have an incision sore that needs to heal, so my fill may be later.. I'm using pure will power to keep to my task.. So I've eaten chips, ice cream, some junk food <-- as I would call it.. So don't beat yourself up, you're doing good, you had the surgery, you're starting out.. NO ONE is perfect here, hang in there, find your space to get balanced with what is going on... you've had surgery.. nothing is perfect starting out.. I'm still trying to find that spot in the bed where I can sleep comfy.. and sometimes sitting (riding in a car) is difficult.. I understand that a pound a week is average.. I'm hoping for that. I didn't do that before the surgery.. I could gain a pound in a week, if not more.. I just started exercising, I haven't had the energy. I know it will all come to me, just like it will come to you.. Hang in there.. That sweet spot is coming.. be patience and just start tomorrow again and everyday after if you have to.. You'll get there...
