    I was back to work in just over a week. I was not full strength but I work a desk job so it was fine.

    You will not have a problem flying 2 months after the surgery. I think I was restricted for 2-3 weeks. I flew about 6 weeks later and had no issues whatsoever.

    June Surgery Date

    Your BMI is up there at 47ish. I would think you would be on a 1 week liquid diet but your surgeon knows best. I sure dont lol. But just because your surgeon said 1 day. Does not mean you cant do a week if you want and get a jump start on your weight loss... I have seen some on here start their pre op diet a whole month in advance. (which is not easy)
  4. I doubt it. It's using electrical signals from your legs and can't accurately predict your trunk, so just 3% off is pretty good. I have a DEXA scan every three months and that's what I use (and, oddly, since I lost weight, the DEXA scan is within 0.5% bodyfat of the little throwaway hand-held electrical impedance thing every single gym has.)

    How long were you off work after surgery?

    Desk job, working from home. I took 2 weeks fully off, and another week with half days. I think week four I warned people I may be adjusting my schedule if I was exhausted and needed a mid day break. My company is mainly based in South Africa (I am in the US) so that worked pretty well. Pain wasn't the issue for me, I never had to take pain meds at home. Rather, I was exhausted. I needed afternoon naps daily for almost a month after surgery. Also, I really spent that time focusing on my eating and drinking schedule since I really had to force myself to stay on top of it. I also was focusing on getting in movement via short walks, etc. Once I did start back, I had to start coming up with solutions to when I needed to eat relative to meetings and that sort of thing. I could see that being challenging in some work environments. If I had been commuting, there is no way I could have done it. I would have been rung out after the morning commute alone! My company was very understanding - I kept them in the loop from the beginning that my plans might change depending on how I felt and they were great. I was very lucky in that regard, esp since I had only worked there for 3.5 months before I had surgery. I think the openness (not about what my surgery was, just about the fact that some recoveries are easier than others and it is not predictable) was helpful.

    that all depends on your BMI and surgeons. Some do only 1 day. Some do none, Some do 1 week or 2 weeks or a month. The whole point of it is to shrink your liver. Many of us who are overweight have lots of fat around our liver, But not everyone. What is your weight and height?

    Did I overdo it at the gym?

    if you damaged something or tore something you would know and be in pain. Me personally i wouldnt be doing heavy lifting for a couple months. As for everything else its great. I am 4-5 weeks out and i am going out for walks, using a stationary bicycle and waiting on my actual mountain bike to come back from the shop so i can start using it. I tried jogging yesterday but that did not work out too well with all my fat still bouncing around it was a little painful so i need to loose more fat before i start jogging or wear like a compression thing around my stomach

    i was on solid foods 5 weeks and soft foods 2 weeks after surgery. of course all surgeons have different length stages. Check with yours on how your stages will be from liquids, to puree to soft foods to solids.

    Kinda annoyed and confused

    I bet your nutritionist was thinking about food restrictions for sleeve patients and not truly understanding your question. The first two weeks I was restricted to liquids, but after that I could try whatever I felt comfortable with eating. I had stage 3 hiatal hernia repair, and had a lot of pain the first time I tried chicken. I couldn't eat food that was "dry" without pain in my upper chest. The focus on the 3rd week was introducing foods again and hitting your protein mark while watching carbs. Eat protein first. I bet that's what he meant by no restrictions.
  10. Hey, friends! It’s already too hot in Atlanta, so I decided to join a gym and start using the treadmill, elliptical, and stationary bikes. My doctor has cleared me to use all of those and do some light weights (general rule of no lifting 15+ stands). I’m 4 weeks out from surgery as of yesterday and figured this first stall would be a good time to switch things up. So yesterday I had my consultation that gyms generally force new members into. Explained my situation and told him what my plan was. Next thing I knew, he had me on a balance ball lifting a dumbbell (5-10 lbs) behind my head. It wasn’t super difficult, I had no trouble keeping up or breathing. Even had me do the ropes and some step-ups, both felt fine. But now, after the fact, I’m paranoid that I overdid it. It was less than 30 minutes of continuous activity. I feel a little different in my abdominal area, but how do I know if I’ve damaged my stomach or it’s just average post-workout discomfort? Anything I should look out for? Thanks. This surgery has turned me into such a hypochondriac! 😄

    I’m 13 days post op and I too want to work out (re: lift weights) so bad! But alas, I’ve always been a rule follower to a T so until the magic 6 week mark, I’m walking the dogs 🐕 🤣

    So impatient!!!

    Yep, sit on your proverbial hands until you're physically cleared, otherwise you'll injure yourself and set yourself back even longer. Even though I was patient, at 4 months out I started the None 2 Run program and screwed up my knee, which is still giving me grief at almost 8 months out. And I weighed less this time than I did when I did the same program way back before surgery when I last lost weight the old-fashioned way. So I was not only nursing an injured knee, but confused as hell as to why a lighter me couldn't nail the program like I did when I was heavier! But the answer is easy - I lost a lot of strength in the pre-surgery months when I was at my absolute heaviest. Everything hurt, so my activity was almost non-existent). Post-surgery recovery took a long time, and I lost even more tone during those weeks. So I bruised the bone jogging on weak leg muscles. So now I concentrate on the gym, doing low impact cardio and weight training to build strength. My partner and I had to run the other night to catch a show we were running a little late for. The run was fine on the night, but the next day, my knee was tender again. I want desperately to run, but may have to accept that it's going to take some time with physio to do it. So small steady steps. Enjoy the other small victories as they come. The process is a long-haul.

    I think you are just nervous about the future, it happens, also because the surgery your organism can have huge stress, so don't worry you will be back on the good state and all will be fine, it often happens when you re changing too much in your life, also you mentioned that you were fantasizing about the operation, so this one of the bad parts what dream is live, missing the subject of fantasizing, you better to think about future not about that was done before.     May Surgery Buddies

    I totally get that! They’ll give you something to relax you, just focus on that (easy for me to say). My date is 6/8. I wasn’t the least bit nervous until my insurance company approved me…since then (2 weeks ago), I’m anxious and jumpy. I’ve been coming here to read good post surgery experiences…so please post yours. ❤️ I’ll be thinking of you and sending you good vibes. You are going to do great! ❤️

    I've never heard of a restricted diet lasting that long. Usually regular diet starts at about six weeks post-op, and pureed/soft (solid) foods start weeks before that. The chief focus should be on hydration, not nutrition.

    That's awesome. I had mine the 13. I gained weight because I was so swollen. It's is starting to come off. I gained 6 lbs and now I am down those 6. Can't wait for next week and walking more to see how much I will use.
  19. Chrissy, Same here with the coffee!! Thought I was going to really miss it but it doesn't even taste good. I am 3 weeks out and down 26 lbs. I am sorry about your complications. I cant imagine since I have had none and I am still so weak and tired, no energy at all! I am 66 years old so it may take a bit I guess. My blood pressure has dropped significantly and could be part of the problem. Hope you are feeling better soon. Regina

    I had my sleeve done on the 12th and will be one week post op tomorrow. I am already down 10lbs from surgery day.

    How long were you off work after surgery?

    It just depends on how you recover & how your body reacts to the changes. My friends & I had desk jobs too - quite mentally demanding & reactionary. One was back after a week, another took three weeks & I needed four (I always take longer to recover from everything). Best advice is to have a contingency plan in place with your employer - ability to take more time if needed, to return part time or with reduced hours. Just don’t push yourself to do more than you physically (& mentally) are able.
  22. Your rate of loss always slows as you get closer to your goal weight. You can always depend on that. The heady high rates of loss you experience at the beginning don’t last. You can also stall any number of times along the way. The small weight gain you are seeing at the moment could be related to your health issues or it could be your natural weight fluctuation becoming more noticeable as you get closer to your goal. It could also be your body resettling after your holiday loss & getting you back to where you would have been without the holiday. I’d go for option D - stop panicking & let your body catch up & I’d also add wait for your health to improve. Doesn’t hurt to do a check of your food choices, portion sizes, calories, protein & fluid intake, etc. Though you may be currently struggling with food, there may be something you are missing or could tweak to keep you closer to your plan.     Eating every 3 hours....

    Ok, so I thought I was eating soooo much each meal because I can eat about 2 tbsp each time (maybe 2 1/2 depending on what it is). So I decided to look it up. How many ounces are in 1 tbsp. It's 1/2 an ounce, ya'll LOL I'm seeing people eating like 2-4 ounces each time they eat and I thought I was doing horrible because of 2 tbsp each time I eat. Now, I'm also on kind of a combination of mushy/chunky mushy food right now, so definitely not solids yet. But somehow I still had it in my head I was eating way too much. And I called my surgeon's office and they said I'm to eat every 3 hours 5x a day UNTIL I hit solids at 6 weeks. Then I go to 3 meals a day and a very small snack or 2 IF needed. So that explains why I need to eat every 3 hours right now.

    Over The Shaming

    OMG I feel this in my soul!!!!! That's why I only told my mom (and of course my husband and kids) and they were all very supportive. And still are. Once I hit 2 weeks post op, I told others. And I detailed the pain, the appointments, the dietary restrictions, the exercise requirements, the "testing new food to see what you like or what hurts to eat", etc... I basically did a word vomit on them and they were like "oh wow, I had no idea it was so painful and involved!" Well, duh. Of course you didn't. You're a size 6 and can eat anything you want and not gain weight lol If you aren't me, and if you haven't walked in my shoes, then of course you wouldn't know. That's why I just educated you AFTER the fact, because I don't need unsolicited advice or platitudes or negativity. I said what I said, I did what I did, and now it is what it is.
