    it's happening...

First of all CONGRATS!! It's exciting! Allow yourself to he happy about this! I have 3 pieces of advice for anyone undergoing this surgery: 1. Be fiercely protective of yourself. Don’t let ANYONE stand in your way. We become overweight because we’ve put others needs before our own. Get selfish if you have to! What you’re doing is for YOU and you should be proud of that 2. Follow Doctors orders to the letter. Protein, fluids, exercise, dietary restrictions – do exactly as he says. And take advance of the first 6 months! It’s when weight loss is most rapid. Celebrate the little accomplishments. (I cried when my BMI was “obese” instead of “morbidly obese.” Haha!) 3. Enjoy the journey. YOU GO GIRL! You've earned this!
  2. Okay just checked calendar and last nutrition appt is potentially 11/25. Can insurance get approved in time for a surgery within 2-3 weeks? Ideally my drop dead date for surgery would be the 20th which is oddly enough my bday! Lol. But would prefer the previous week. Is that doable? Sent from my SM-T567V using the BariatricPal App

    For Real?

The first thing that goes is water weight and some of us carry A LOT of it..esp obese people. I had to do two week liquid diet prior to surgery and after the first couple days it really wasn't that bad and by the 2nd week i wasn't even hungry. Good luck!

    ahhh feeling down today

Me, too! I had my surgery on 12/26 and have lost 64 pounds but am stuck on a plateau for a long time. I am exercising at the gym 5 days per week and have lost 10 pounds of body fat in 2 months but the scale is just not moving at all. I am wondering if I have stretched out my stomach because I can eat quite a bit before I feel the restriction, depending on what kind of food I am eating.
  5. What should I expect? I was told I have to attend 3 of them before surgery.
  6. I am having a really hard time and just wanted to express how I was feeling to people that understand. I'm almost 6 weeks pregnant and couldn't be happier, except for the weight gain thing. I haven't finished losing my weight and right now I'm terrified. I had to get completely unfilled, no morning sickness, but it's as if the moment I conceived my band became too tight. I was getting stuck with EVERYTHING I ate. I have already gained 4 pounds. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but I'm freaking out. I have been so hungry, I wake up needing to eat something. his morning I had an anxiety attack and I can't do this, it's not healthy for me (or the baby)to be so stressed about my weight. I'm trying to relax and calm down.... How did you guys accept this, or did you? :smile2:
  7. You're not alone! It's hard, even when you KNOW that it's healthy to gain some weight. I'm at 27 weeks and have managed to keep my weight gain to about 13 pounds so far. That said, my doc's visit yesterday was the first where I saw a big jump-- 5 pounds in a month. It was hard. I'm also looming up on 250, which is another mental block. I started at 322, so I KNOW I'm still WAY thinner than I was. For me, it helped to continue to plan meals and menus and workout as my body allows (starting to run into limitations there.) I don't obsessively count calories, though I check periodically to see that I'm not WAY off base. I've stuck to a moderately bandster friendly diet and have intentionally enjoyed some non-bandster favorites that don't work when my band is tight. HOWEVER, I'm eating more things like big leafy salads (light on the dressing) and raw veggies that I have trouble with otherwise. I'm enjoying a few more whole grain breads and other HEALTHY options that would otherwise give me trouble. My latest obsession is a broccoli coleslaw recipe from an online blog--I eat it by the bowl, sometimes as lunch itself. By enjoying the healthy stuff that doesn't work with the band, I feel like I'm getting a treat in exchange for the weight gain. The sugary/fatty stuff doesn't make me feel good, so I avoid it. It's hard. And depressing. And crazy-making. You're not at ALL unreasonable for finding the prospect of weight gain terrifying. But you DID THE RIGHT THING by getting the unfill! Don't forget that a good 20-25 pounds of pregnancy weight gain is baby-related, NOT counting maternal fat gain! That doesn't mean you'll be 20 pounds lighter the day after babe is born, but you'll be on your way. AND you have your band. It WILL work after baby is here! Good luck to you. There are lots of successful bandsters who have had babies, lost the weight, and gone on to reach goals. You can be one too!
  8. So for the past couple weeks I have only lost a pound or two on the scale but my clothes are fitting significantly different. I went from a 14 to a 12, and shirts that wouldn't button on me now fit perfectly. Has anyone else experienced this physical change without any actually change in the scale number?
  9. Has there been any changes, stress, lack of sleep, etc? These things can hinder weight loss. Not staying properly hydrated? Even not eating enough? <--- Contrary to belief, yes, you can gain/stall not eating enough. But that's another topic (unless you want to go there, let me know). Is there too much sodium in your diet? that'll cause water retention. About to start that time????? Also, doesn't help.

    Pre op weight loss stall

I don't necessarily have any tips for you but I'm in the exact same boat. I'm supposed to lose a certain amount before my pre op appointment May 12 and I've been doing everything right yet I've remained stuck right around the same weight for over a week. I guess under regular circumstances that would be a fairly normal weight loss plateau but I'm on a deadline here. These last five pounds are killing me. It's so stressful and frustrating!
  11. 4 weeks post op today and I am having my first day of wanting to overeat. I just want to graze. I think it is being off for the holiday and it is raining and storming out. I guess it has triggered those days of cooking and eating and being lazy. I am going to get dressed and get out of the house. I will not let this beat me. I just started losing after a long post op stall. Good luck everyone.

    Drinking while eating

Drinking with meals is one of many general things you will have to learn for yourself....like crushing pills, some can some can't...or carbonated drinks... The band is adjustable and each individual responds differently.... early on, I was told to start to get used to not drinking with meals....to drink right up to a meal, then nothing during or 30-40 minutes after....I asked why, and like many "Rules" was basically told I will find out as I get closer to the Green Zone...that these "rules" will make sense sooner or later..... Sure enough, I did find out why....bottom line, it is not a question whether I am told I could or could not, it is that the way my band has been adjusted for the last 3+ years, I CANNOT drink while eating....it is IMPOSSIBLE without dire circumstances.... food is in my pouch, slowly passing through the band...there is just so much my pouch will/can hold.....IF I introduce Water, it will instantly increase the volume of what is there....it will have no where to go but right back up and out! Not to mention the pain....I would assume dilating-stretching my pouch.... As far as drinking after eating, I have to wait, and take small sips from time to time...until I can tell when it is safe to drink again....I have had food come back up 20 minutes after eating because I drank too soon.... Having said that...I do not have to crush my meds/pills, and I can drink carbonated beverages (carefully)...others cannot....so you see everyone has different tolerances to different things, and it will only be after time (mnths/years?) that you learn a lifestyle that best suits you and your weight loss..... But in the beginning, your best option is follow your Dr.'s guidelines, until you have those "A-Ha" moments...even then I tell my Dr. what I discovered....
  13. Good morning! I am almost 6 weeks post op. I can get a little hungry, but anytime I try to eat, the food tastes disgusting to me. I am eating on plan. I get my Protein daily, but its from liquids. I just can't stand to eat anything. I cook foods allowed on my diet, and I have to force myself to eat it. Is this normal? Will it get better as I continue to heal? Thanks!

Not calling me to schedule sx

I have. The manager made a big deal about coming in to meet the new doctor. Told me that I would know answers from that visit. When I went to that appt about 3 weeks ago, I waited to be seen for an 1hr. The doctor comes in and asks if I had any questions. When I told, him I wanted to schedule sx he said they would call me... That was 3 weeks ago!! Sent from my VS986 using the BariatricPal App
  15. Yep. I agree with this. I had lost 40lb before surgery and very few comments. When I came back after my 3-week leave, there were a few eyes popped then. It's the people that see you day to day that can't really tell but it's people like your hairdresser that see you about every six weeks that notice the most, I think.

    Need Some Help...

Isopure clear drinks. You can find them at Vitamin Shoppe and GNC. They have 40 grams of protein per bottle. I would also suggest protein bullets. You can find these at the same places as Isopure. In the beginning it is so important to get protein in, and the bullets and Isopure can be a good place to start. The little bullets are about 2 or 3 ounces and have between 30-40 grams of protein.

    food confusion

I believe you asked this on my Breakfast post. What follows is my personal opinion! I eat anything I want for now. I am trying to stay away from highly processed food and "white carbs" - even though white carbs have the same amount of calories as "brown carbs", ie. brown whole grain rice and whole wheat Pasta has th same calories as white rice and pasta. I know I would lose faster if I would stick to a rigorous diet avoiding any type of unhealthy foods and cutting carbs to an excrutiating minimum. I applaud anyone who follows those guidelines for their strength and willpower. Unfortunately (or not?), this isn't me. I am only 3 months out tomorrow, I have lost 45 pounds which is probably fairly slow compared to others, but I eat what I want in moderation. If I want a piece of my husband's bear claw, I will have that. If I want to eat 1/4 bagel, I will do that. I make sure I get at least 60 g of Protein every day. The sleeve gives me the moderation I was never able to do (while keeping my sanity). If I was able to follow a diet that strict, I would probably not have needed the sleeve. I am currently stalled a little bit since a week, but I am continuing to eat this way - mainly to see if the stall is just a stall or if it is related to what I eat. I am hoping I'll break through it without having to cut out the carbs. I am eating 800 to 900 calories during the week, and maybe 1200 calories on the weekend days. I work out pretty much every day for at least 40 minutes. MFP is down right now, so I can't post exact values. The good thing is, I am just happy. I am not craving anything - because I can have everything. In my opinion, I am eating like a normal person, ie. eat what I want in moderation. I have wanted to be able to do this all my life, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that this is it and that I DON'T have to live with "Can't have this, can't have that" anymore.
  19. My surgeon cleared me for mushies after surgery. I got a little lazy to bullet the meatballs I made and instead just mashed it. I think they were a little dry and now I have an uncomfortable feeling in my chest and throat. Will this pass or do I have to try to bring it up?
  20. Donna, check out www.shrinkyourself.com. It's an awesome plan and will teach you all about why you eat emotionally and how to stop. It's a paid program. Kind of like an online course you do for 12 weeks. I learned so much from it.
  21. well I guess I should call it ashamed too since I've only lost 3 lbs in what will be one month next week. I'm not able to exercise and I'm angry about that. I also am feeling an emotional attachment to food here lately, bad foods. I haven't been bad, it's just I have craved old foods like chips and dip, cheeto's, frito's, stuff like that and sweets, it's awful. I'm feeling deprived and its not a good feeling right now. I literally could binge. I guess those feelings of craving old bad food habits never will go away and I have to deal with it for the rest of my life as I want so bad to succeed with my band. I'm 47 and having gone thru a hysterectomy a few yrs ago it threw me into menopause so I know my metabolism is probably slower than someone younger or who is not going thru menopause plus I take hormones. Here lately it seems I can eat a cup worth of food and then some but I don't. I go in next week for a fill, thank goodness. I am staying full every 4 hrs but the urge to snack in between is there, I don't snack often, maybe 2 to 3 times a week once a day and then I will grab a low fat string cheese. My worst time is late night, food calls my name, anything and I'm not hungry for the most part. Now last night I was hungry so I ate 3 bites of turkey and half piece of Munster cheese with it around 11:00 pm. Tonight, I'm not hungry. I just wish I could turn off the food craving button in my head.
  22. Well i am super pale and short and i have one scar main scar that is pretty big and puckered but I believe it was due to allergic reaction to the glue used to seal them. My incisions became very inflamed and the largest one on my right side is not pretty at all. But most people you can barely see it. Im only 3 weeks post op Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  23. Here is a photo of one of my 3 month old incisions next to my pinky for size comparison

    Foamies

Thanks guys. My foamies lasted about 3 hours. I think i ate too fast. I won't be having pork again Any time soon! I will also be buying some gasx!!!
  25. I think the band is working for me cause if I eat to much it comes back up. sometimes if I just takea bite it comes back up. What is the word for the chest pain and food coming back up. Is that a true stuck feeling. When I'm on my period that happens all week. Does anyone else have that problem? This time I got smart and stuck to mushies like potato soup. Finally today I got to eat real food. Its so sad my four year old said mom be carefull you might puck agian. I guess I was doing that more than I thought. Today I had a egg and cheese stick for breakfast. I still am not seeing a one or two pound loss a week like some say we should. I am eating 1000-1200 calories a day plus using the treadmill 7 days week for three 30 minute sessions a. day.which burns 600 calories day. I feel the weight should be coming off. In about two weeks I can join a gym can't wait. What exercises seem to help some of you? What foods have you guys been eating.
