    Post-OP Walking

I started walking the day of surgery and kept increasing steps until I got to 10,000/day, which is what my surgeon recommended. I was up to 10,000 by the end of week one, according to my record I keep. Best thing ever - to get right into the exercise. I also added wall pushups a little later. Then stairs - 10 flights/day by end of week 3. Then added some light weights for upper body.

    ❤JULY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

Day 1 Arms done. (K, I’m gonna say it, the arm exercises are a tad on the easy side. Now, of course since I said it, I will likely soon find it gets exponentially harder) Did some butt exercises...I wasn’t sure how many reps to do for full effectiveness, so Mr. suggested I do a single exercise until I start to feel the burn, then do 10 more. I did 3 different exercises, and needless to say, my glutes are on fire. Here’s my sunny (Happy Canada Day 🇨🇦) pic. Actually had our holiday weekend BBQ yesterday, and ate waaay too much (comparatively) and am paying for it a little today. I probably had more carbs in one day yesterday than I did the entire past week, and today I’m feeling unnaturally bloated...my lower stomach feels rock hard. It’s like I have abs or something, lol. Maybe thats my secret to a firm tummy...Carbs! Sure would save $$$ in plastics.

    September 2019 🍂🍁

Had my ultrasound today re: check gallbladder and liver. 7/9 cardio 7/10 pcp medical clearance 7/13 psych 7/16 afternoon consultation with 3rd surgeon. First surgeon consultation sucked. Their website is misleading the doc I was scheduled to see only does sleeves and “we can also use a second option such as weight loss medication”. I was in his office for 5 minutes and seemed like he wasn’t interested in what I had to say. Later in the week I found out about him only doing sleeves via web seminar. I cancelled all my follow ups with him. Second surgeon I like but I don’t love (they are pushing me to do a bypass) and we shall see about the third surgeon. Third surgeon did my cousin’s lapband to RNY revision. She loves him! anyways just sharing my experience. I think is important to do your research and not just jump into something. I am all about vibes and being heard. 7/16 endoscopy during the morning. Still waiting for my second surgeon’s office to schedule my nutritionist appointment. If I don’t hear back by tomorrow. I’ll call Wednesday. i should be done with all my preop appointments by 7/20. Praying my insurance approves and I get to confirm my September date.

    June Sleevers Lets Get Excited!!!

My surgiversary was 6/6. I’m down 85 pounds from my highest weight. I had A LOT of hair loss in the first 6 months , but I now have a lot of growth! I weigh 169 now and want to get to 150 ... but I’m losing very slowly. I have been working out at Orange Theory Fitness 2-3 times per week and recently started running. I surprised myself and ran 3 miles without stopping yesterday! My pace was 10:30/mile .... back when I weighed at least 50 pounds more a few years ago, my pace was 13:57/mile. I could definitely feel the huge difference in how I felt running after losing all this weight so far. It felt AMZING!!! I hope that everyone is doing well!
  7. Yesterday...I ate a Kabob with beef. It was so good that I went to my old habits and 1 bite and swallow technique. Man, did I pay for that, the beef got stuck and drinking water only made it worst. I was at a party and walked away fast to a corner where no one could see me and barely made it before it all came up. I stayed there for a few mins while I could barely breathe and my eyes teared up. I kept vomiting for at least 10 mins. The pain kept coming back. I left the party with my wife and pulled over a few times on the way home to vomit again and relieve some of the pain and pressure in my stomach. I know I'm not suppose to eat fast and chew chew chew to small portions but sometimes I forget and repeat my bad habits that I've done for 44 years of my life. I finally made it home and hust laid on my stomach for about 1 hour before I finally felt better again. Started out with small sips of water before I continued tosoft foods later on that night. I am Post Op 6 months now Bariatric Sleeve surgery. Surgery Date was Jan3,2019 in Orange,Calif at St Josephs by Dr Pham. Heaviest was 340, surgery date was 332. As of today , I am 248, for a loss of 84 lbs 6 months out. I wore pants at a size 46-48 pre op but now I wear pants at 38 which I haven't been abke to squeeze in since high school...LOL. Shirts were a 5x but now at 2x. Dr. Pham is the same age as me and is one of the best bariatric surgeons out there. His team is phenomenal and really help you pre and post op, Especially Elena. She works in the office and is highly educated in the whole process and will help guide you from beginning to end and there after.

WTG,WAY TO GO my friend, been there, done that. Behind you a little at an Xlarge and size 17-19 juniors, but Baby I started at 28-30Wmens at Wally World- super gratified and willing to rock it for all I can!🎸And bye and bye, I may just get smaller yet! This is where my Bariatric Clinic projected for me I WANT TO GO LOWER-175 is my Dream Goal. 🙎👗
  14. And a lot of my problems are similar to AZhiker, don't have diabetes, high blood pressure but still have to watch it so my thoracic aorta aneurysm doesn't explode, I this far have retained my uterus, offered it up to my last gynecologist, nasty critter not only. declined harvesting it, he insulted me for asking, did haVE PCOS, PROBABLY THAT EXPLAINS only 3 children in 10 years when I was trying So Hard. I was an only child, sounds lovely in theory, in real life not so much. Have had joints removed because of degenerative arthritis which started at 25, some replaced ( knees) some lost forever. Most of my grip strength is gone from my right thumb. Imagine having to ask your son to constantly open water bottles, use can openers, pick things up, because now my shoulders are shot, too many times having to beat the stain of pushing to get,up from seated positions. And I stood it well into my 70s, cried a lot from pain, embarrasment, you WANT to do things for yourself but you JUST CAN'T. anymore. Even if I NEVER fully heal, I still have a better quality of life than I did before. And I am a cock- eyed optimist, I still believe in future healing for me!

    ❤JULY 2019 CHALLENGE❤

July isn't starting very rip-roaring for me. Either my right hip joint is inflamed or I wrenched it in some manner, now I limp like Walter Brennan , the late character actor, was in a series on TV , predates the Beverly Hillbillies, same general premise except these characters were from West Virginia instead of Missouri. Called my orthopaedics, soonest they can promise me is this next Monday afternoon at 1:50pm, but I may call tomorrow or early Wednesday and see if they have any cancellations for Wednesday, he does surgeries Tuesday and occasional Thursday's. If it gets any worse I suppose i can go by squad to local ER or the Urgent Care, go through a 1/2 hour explaining and end up with a script for Norco(ER) or Tylenol(urgent care). What I really need is an Kenalog/steroid injection into the joint capsule so I can keep on keeping on. Now I am acting like a female dog, growling every time Tomkitten tries to thwart or jolly me up, told him 90% of the household cleaning is now on your shoulders! Told me I'll tell the doctor on YOU, won't do any good , Dr Carroll our PCP told him last Thursday when his BMI was creeping closer to 40,YOU NEED MUCH MORE EXERCISE, or I will ship your records and a recommendation to your Mama's Bariatric surgeon in Columbus! 1 more comorbidity and you'll qualify even if you lose down to 35+. And shame on me but it's nice to not be the recipient of his "Lower Your Weight" pep talk, if anything he is telling me that it was only expected I lose 70% of my excess weight, I am now at 68.3 so slow it down some. Probably naturally will, I have been still losing at a pretty fast rate for 10 months. Some doctors just aren't happy campers, danged if you listen, danged if you don't!
  16. Hey all! I had my VSG done April 4, 2019. As of this morning, since surgery, I am down about 46 pounds. I have been at a stall for the last month. It seems that I keep floating within the same five pounds and cannot for the life of me break 200! So here is where I am at with my thoughts about trying to figure this out still..... Is this actually a stall? Or is this because of my eating schedule/habits? I mostly just eat when I feel hungry (the real hungry, not bored hunger). So, if I have a nutritionally sound meal, say 2-3 ounces of chicken breast and some veggies. Do I stop eating that meal when I feel full, or am I supposed to continue eating it over time to get the nutrition in (like when some people say it takes them up to an hour to eat a meal)? I hope what I am asking makes sense. Right now, I continue to pick at that meal over time until its gone. Should I just be 'done' with that meal once I feel full and not continue to pick at it? Thanks for any help offered. I really do appreciate it!

    feeling cold..

I'm perfectly willing to rent a very large Wind Tunnel fan and blow some of our American Hot Air your way. Highs of 90s, lows in maybe high 60s to low 70s, chances of thunderstorms brewing up every afternoon. Have gone to Capri leggings, good news Size 17-19 juniors, bad news having to keep my semi- deflated thigh fat blobs under cover, too😠 shy to let it all hang out in shorter shorts. Maybe after some bike riding tones them up? Well we shall see, okay?👖😧
  18. At 6 weeks I had an Endoscopy which proved what I had been complaining about since 2 weeks past. I am post- RNY BYPASS, my pouch has ulcerations, the opening between my pouch and the 2nd section of the small intestine , the jejunem, was so narrowed only liquids were able to pass through and at a very delayed rate plus I also had multiple ulcerations there also. Apparently there was some acid producing ability left in that tiny piece of stomach tissue and that caused the issue. Although,i have been on sucralfate therapy since last October 12th, I am not quite healed, although I have hopes my endoscopy shows good results my story has not yet concluded. Many foods are repulsed, so I still have episodes of vomiting, and I am basically on a liquid/pureed diet. I have had to have other interventions, additional surgeries. have not totally ruled out. But I take my vitamins, minerals and other medications, should be due for additional blood labs , then we will see if there are deficiency of anything. Had one iron INFUSION in March 2019, was rehospitalized in November 2018 for low protein levels which led me to malnutrition. At that time, a PICC,line was inserted in my upper left arm and I received Total Parentel Nutrition 12 hours daily for 3 months. This was not the recovery I booked in for, but I still am having success in my life, and at 73 years old ( my birthday is on Boxing Day so I shall be 74 then) I am still very grateful I had the SURGERY and have been given the chance to continue living. In British terms if I have calculated correctly I have lost nearly 9 stone, over 120- some pounds, nearly 55 kg, however you state it, I am physically much smaller and that gives hope for future days. God Bless you on your struggles, if you want to chat more I am usually no farther away than this website or you can P.M. me! Have a beautiful day and I pray your problems can get fixed properly.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Sit up in your recliner, if you have one. if not use PLENTY of pillows around you, prop up anything that needs propping, buy body pillows, w-mart has them so I would guess Target, Meijer, and perhaps Kohls. I would suggest K- Matt but they're an species almost extinct, along with Sears. I always enjoyed shopping them both along with Montgomery Ward. M.W always sized their Juniors up to 21, I was wearing their 19 and 21 Juniors when b I met up with and dated my late Husband. He always denied the memory, but we met at his Aunt Ruth's when I was 12 and he would was 15. Ooh I wanted him to notice me but he was a big bad Freshman from Columbus , and couldn't be bothered by my hero worship. 9 years later we re- met, sparks of electricity were there, and we ended up marrying. Maybe it was merely static electricity, shame my Mama didn't. use Downy, fabric softener sooner. Maybe that would have ridded the situation of those pesky sparks. But it wasn't EXACTLY bad all the time, 3 beautiful children, I was warm, not exposed to wars, had food when i needed my sorrows allayed. And in the culture, I had no reason to complain, so I didn't.Wasn't forced to work financially, warm , indoors instead. of homeless I had found a man, so happiness was optional, now I was to live only through him , A MRS was the only degree required in Mid-Ohio in the late 60s, and if I cried myself to sleep nobody much cared and I still had my false first lover FOOD to turn to, and it never told me that I wasn't good enough , that I was doing or acting right. And I was passive , quiet, demeaned myself just to retain a man. After all I had promised to stay in my wedding vows,my one bit of gumption- I refused to have the word " obey" retained in the wedding vows, it might have still been implied but I refused to SAY IT! And it was a Pleasant Valley Sunday in Status Quo Land , Another life ago, things are much different now, Better Times? God please forgive me saying but YES YES YES, I stand up for myself, I can live sans the expected props and guess what? I am loved for myself, not somebody's daughter, wife or mother, but ME. And as I heal, it is by ME, for ME, because bottom line, sink,or swim, I have ME And Me aLone, so thats where my loyalty must lie.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

More amazing progress! Lol, y’all make me want to post a current pic, but I’m grubby from Pilates and yard work and refuse to put on nicer clothes or put on makeup. I started losing again this week.... 2.2 pounds since 8 days ago so fingers crossed I’m back on a downward trend. Yesterday morning I was at 183.8. We’ve got a family vacation trip planned to New Orleans in 3 weeks and I desperately want to weigh in the 170’s by then. I’ve got 19 days

New date for my VGS! 7/22/19

Hi Kathaleen, I am scheduled for July 22, 2019 also I am going to Nevada a place called Blossom Bariatrics. Well actually my stress test is the 22nd and my surgery is 7/24/19. I hope to God I don't fail my stress test . I was told if I could walk on a treadmill for 20 minutes without chest pains I should be fine. But I start my liquid diet on July 8, they recommend 14 days prior.
  23. I have appt this coming week, they are working me in so am not sure what date it will be on - for final meet with dr. I've been working on researching bypass vs. sleeve to make sure that I feel like I concur with what the dr. has suggested. I'm torn on some of the pros/cons of both surgeries based on following about co-morbidities/health situation: I do NOT have high blood pressure I do NOT have high cholesterol I do NOT have diabetes I do NOT currently have ongoing heartburn/acid reflux (get heartburn 3 or 4 times a yr, and acid reflux..maybe once a year if that) My BMI started out at 60 and is now 54? I am 50 yrs old (not young) I have long clotting history but NO clotting disorder EVERY episode of clotting (DVT's/PE's) had known causation. Have permanent IVC filter since 2011. Knees have severe arthritis and need replacing - have to get to 40 BMI to have kneed surgery Here are some generalities I've gathered on sleeve vs bypass from searching here, google searches, and many youtube videos watched. If anything is wrong, please let me know. It's amazing that despite how much you read/watch, you can come away with questions still - maybe my retention is shot with long pre-op diet?: Bypass – possible chance of bowel obstruction later after surgery Bypass – possible chance of twisting bowels after surgery (don't know %) Bypass - less chance of reflux/resolves reflux for many Sleeve – chance of developing reflux (do not have more than 4 episodes a yr of heartburn, maybe 1 of reflux) Sleeve – chances of clots forming in previous ‘stomach/fundus’ area - not able to get specific % (this was also something dr. mentioned) Bypass – chances of clots/DVT's? (haven't found specifics yet) Bypass vs. Sleeve - hair loss - tied. Rapid weight loss causes this and can occur with either surgery Bypass vs. Sleeve - more long term data on bypass than sleeve Bypass vs. Sleeve - overall amt of weight loss tends to even out for both at around 5 to 6 yr mark, but bypass has 10 to 20% greater chance of 'initial faster weight loss" Bypass vs. Sleeve - chance for hernias, ulcers, etc. %? for both (need to find out) Bypass vs. Sleeve – likely to cause more time in bathroom? Bypass due to dumping/vomiting (some see dumping as a 'pro'?)? Sleeve due to vomiting /diarrhea? Bypass vs. Sleeve - % of Vomiting / Amount of Nausea (same?) Bypass vs. Sleeve - easier to stretch out sleeve pouch?? Bypass vs. Sleeve - lesser % of chances or regain with bypass in long term? Statistically significant? True or False? Bypass vs. Sleeve - sleeve has more reduction of hunger hormones ghrelin & leptin as fundus removed? Anyone know if bypass has statistically significant reduction in 'unger hormones'? Bypass vs. Sleeve - more chance of malnutrition with bypass - what happens with my long term meds & how they will absorb/not absorb (take 2 anti-depressants and 1 is 'slow release' - take 2 diff meds for sleep due to shift work disorder)?? Bypass vs. Sleeve - bypass surgery longer Dang..i feel like I'm missing some obvious stuff on this list!!!! Going to go look at snippets saved in Word doc.
