I tossed those shakes as soon as I finished the liquid stage & not one has touched my lips in the three years since. There is a giant shining beacon of light ahead for you. Cucumber sandwiches in white bread were my favourite too @Starwarsandcupcakes. No spinach but soaked the cucumber in vinegar (balsamic usually). So good. We had tomato flavoured chips here in Australia (Red Seal were the best) as I grew up which I think would be similar to ketchup flavoured. They don’t make them any more sadly … but then maybe not as they would be a terrible temptation to me. So relieved you have finally pooped @ms.sss but then probably not as relieved as yiu were. 😆 It was like poop watch there for a while. -
I slept propped up in my loveseat because I don't have a recliner. It worked well. I had to do it for about a week before I could sleep in my bed. As for the fluids and protein, that's likely the reason you're feeling off. Also, you may not be getting enough calories. Try to drink protein shakes and protein water, that way you can at least get your fluids and protein in at the same time.

there is no consensus among surgeons on this. None. Some patients are drinking it before they even leave the hospital. Others are told they can never drink it again for the rest of our lives. And then there are those in the middle - who say they can drink it after x amount of time (one month ....or three months...or six months). So I'd check with your clinic to see what they say.

That's not silly at all. I wish I had that must restriction. I'm 4 weeks out, as well, and I can eat 3 ounces of food per meal, which I don't like. But it'll get better. I was told that as time goes on, you can eat more. But our stomachs are still healing, and some take longer than others. Look at the wins you're having when you start feeling down. Remind yourself that you can eat without any issues, remember the weight you're losing, focus on how your body is feeling and moving. This is a good thing, although I know food addiction is a beast. My diet is 100% liquid other than a handful of vegetables that I can makes as a soup. It is also three weeks long. At this point, I think I’m going to just do four to five shakes a day and a soup like egg drop or miso. -
Hi Nicole! I was told 3 months due to caffeine causing dehydration and the acidity of the coffee bean causing issues while healing. However, it definitely varies per program. The lack of caffeine doesn't necessarily bother me...I just want my coffee for the taste alone. I'd be lying if I said I haven't contemplated giving it a try Looking forward to seeing what others have to say. I'll be 4 weeks post op tomorrow and two months seems like forever right now.

I had sauteed zucchini at 2-3 weeks with no issues. It was delicious. I was told to avoid celery, but I was able to eat whatever else I wanted at 3-4 weeks. I am 9 months out and I still struggle with iceberg and romaine lettuce. I haven't tried celery, but I don't like it anyway. -
depends. Every surgeon seems to have different stages post surgery. Stage 3 for me in a few weeks is adding veggies, dairy, and non pureed soft meats like regular chicken, all seafood like shrimp and clams etc. My stage 4 isnt until 6 months after surgery when I can reintroduce complex carbs,

My surgery is 6/22. I started a three week liquid diet yesterday with the only exception being a vegetable soup that I can eat if I follow their recipe. My surgery team recommends stoking up on the first week or two liquids before surgery in case you don't feel up to shopping during that time. I have a few items, but I'll need to get more. Before my pre-op diet started, I started eating very similarly to how I would need to eat once I return to full food after surgery. I did end up losing 28 pounds over five weeks doing that. -
Im new on this app. Im 47 years old and have gained a lot of weight. I had tried soooo many diets and every week was always the beginning of a new diet. I tried so hard to get myself mentally focused on dieting but it was so hard and hard to get the motivation to do it. So about 3 weeks I was at 290 the biggest I have ever been in my life. I had already seen the a doctor about doing surgery. Which I feel like it was my last solution. But TBH I feel like I’m also taking the easy way out. Does anyone feel like that???? Anyhow so two weeks ago I started my pre op. And it’s been so hard just having one meal a day and the other two meals are replaced by a shake. I also get two snacks but It’ sucks. Surgery is June 13th. My insurance approved my surgery too. Which is the great part of it all. I been approved. As I been counting down my days I’m getting more nervous about surgery and I now been losing weight I’m down today at 276. Doctor wants me to be at 270 so I got 10 days to go. I don’t want to mess anything up for surgery but I’m hungry and I been reading some of these posting about afterwards. Some seem scary. But I do hope for the best. Anyone doing surgery this month? How is your pre op going?

Metabolic syndrome

I too had/have metabolic syndrome. I'm three weeks out from surgery and my blood pressure is back to normal range, my blood sugar is back to normal range, and I'm losing weight to get me out of the obese range. Cholesterol was lower as of my pre-surgery bloodwork but I'm also on Fenofibrate to reduce my triglycerides. I have repeat bloodwork in about four weeks to see if I can cut down on the Fenofibrate. But so far after surgery, I've come off my Metformin, Lisinopril, Propanalol, and now my hydrochlorithiazide (HCTZ), so I think surgery really will help with metabolic syndrome. -
In a week and a half, I'll be able to introduce vegetables back into my diet which I am SUPER excited about. Does anyone have any good ideas for what vegetables to reintroduce and methods of preparation? I've been advised to avoid a lot of fibrous veggies (broccoli, cauliflower) at first and to not eat raw vegetables. I'm thinking thinly sliced cucumber, cooked zucchini, steamed green beans would be great starters.

A heating pad definitely helped me as did gentle abdominal massage (you can google it, there's a really good technique that uses the fingertips). I also got up and walked as much as possible to stay active. I set a timer on my phone as reminders to sip protein drinks and water. The first week is bumpy, but it gets better! Good luck with your recovery!

My Bike is still sitting at the side of the house with flat tyres and my gym membership application still stuck to the fridge and the cosy little winter nest I have made on the couch is getting more and more cosy BUT I have purchased a Kayak and have been out 3 times in 3 weeks the last time being for 2.5 hours -
So i bought little 1 ounce sauce cups and i would fill it with protein shake and take shots like that. Little by little. Was much easier than drinking from the bottle. As for water. Even 6 weeks post op i struggle to get in the required water unless i just keep drinking and drinking. Big sign that you are dehydrated is the color of your pee. If its yellow or very yellow you need water and mine is most times very yellow. when i see that i am like Oh crap i need to go drink water. So i get my container of water and take as many sips as i can over the course of an hour. As for eggs. If your surgeon says its ok. Then try some scrambled eggs. I typically eat quail eggs because they are much smaller.

Welcome back @acbenford. Just an update from the OP - Still a horrible tracker, but daily weigher. Still working for me and if I vary more than 2-3 lbs I get back focused for a week or more and that settles be back into a better routine for several more weeks. Losing very slowly these days, but still losing so not complaining. -
Am I the only one who some days has no appetite and then turn around the next and feel almost no restriction? I’m only three months post op. I have been increasing my workouts recently so I don’t know if that is playing a part. I just feel like some days my appetite is non stop and I’m so afraid of stretching my pouch.

I had my surgery the 16th of May lost 25lbs the first week (I don’t see it yet) but Im truly struggling to get my protein in and my water. Any advise on this would be amazing! I have spoken to the dietitian and she said it’s completely normal and not to worry but I am really worried I’m not doing this right and I don’t want to fail! My dr has me on the soft diet already and I did explain my stomach doesn’t handle the protein shakes well and he even advised maybe try beans, eggs, etc. just looking for some advice or maybe others who have or are struggling too.

I’m going to try to tackle a couple different issues here. Two weeks ago I was nervous, anxious, scared, and snapping at everyone because surgery was 3 weeks away and I was seriously questioning the sanity of doing this. I cried, I yelled, I ate…then I calmed the heck down. 🤷🏻♀️ The most difficult, nearly impossible food item I have had to turn from is Coca Cola. I did a very relaxed eating plan…couple of Protein Shakes, a salad starting 3 weeks before surgery. I knew that one week prior to surgery, I absolutely would follow my doctor’s pre - surgery plan to a T. I cheated once in awhile, but with surgery scheduled for June 8, I knew that on 5/31, I would be compliant. And, I was. I stayed on plan yesterday., I’ve been completely compliant today. 😊 I found, thanks to a recommendation here, that I love the Premier Peanut Butter chocolate shake. I have had a difficult time finding a shake I like because the pre-surgery selection for my surgeon was Premier or Bariatric Pal. Today I tried PB and chocolate and I’m good! FWIW, I’m doing every.little.thing I can to be nice to me in every category except putting food in my mouth. I went away with my daughter for the holiday weekend and relaxed and was nice to me. I took an entire day off from school today for my pre-anesthesia visit at the hospital, took a long nap this afternoon. Yesterday I was on a tele-visit for post-surgery care with an extremely well-informed nurse who also has undergone bariatric surgery. She was a wealth of information. This morning’s hospital visit really helped calm my nerves. We have amazing health care in Wake County, NC, and I am repeatedly impressed with the care that I have received. I feel much less stressed, and again very comfortable with my decision to pursue bariatric surgery because of those 2 surgeon-required pre-procedure appointments. 6 weeks post op and got my bicycle from the shop a couple weeks ago and been riding. been using my bicycle instead of my car to get around and get things done. takes longer but its actually fun. 3 more days until my monthly weigh in and body measurements that i do on the 4th of every month. hopefully i lost some weight and got a bit smaller lol I also have yet to experience any issues with any foods.

Week 5 post op and last night was the first night I slept on my side and it was glorious. I didn’t sleep upright for GERD, it was the only way I could sleep without pain until last night

I am 34 years old. My surgery was 6 weeks ago. Almost right after surgery my heart rate went down like crazy that i was concerned. So i use to keep a log earlier this year of my blood pressure and rate and it was typically in the 130's over 80 with a heart rate of around 80's and this was me just relaxing. After surgery that dropped to about 110/60 with a heart rate now around 55-60 and i do wear a fitbit and it does track my heart rate and it says my resting heart rate is around the 55 and while i sleep it drops to around 44ish which is normal. I also have a Oximeter that i wear at times whiel sitting at my desk and an alarm goes off when my heart rate drops too low which is often. I brought this up with my primary care and they were not concerned at all. Neither was my cardiologist.

Hi all! Hope you are all doing well! I will start my week 6 tomorrow. Where I can have a lot more of a variety of foods. I’m nervous, but excited. I do have some questions though. I’m meeting my protein goal of 60g minimum, and most of the time, my water goals as well. But, I’m hungry a lot. Surgery was 4/28 and I loved for the first week and for the first time in my life, I wasn’t hungry. It was so nice to not think about food…lol. But, it didn’t last long. I’m following my doctors program to the tee as much as I am physically able to! I don’t know if I’m not eating enough or what. I am worried about eating too much in a sitting, and I’m wanting to develop good habits, so I set a timer for my meals, chew 25 times, and wait 1 min between bites after I’m finished chewing. I don’t eat and drink at the same time either. But I’m hungry!!!! I focus on protein first as well. But it feels like I’m just hungry all the time. Eating every 2-3 hours. So for example, I get up around 8am and drink a cup of decaf coffee, and then try to sip on water or Gatorade Zero until I’ve finished 16oz. Then, I make sure I’ve not drank for 30 minutes and start on breakfast. I usually have been having a Ratio yogurt (the one that’s lower fat and 25g of protein) and add a Tbsp of fresh blueberries and a Tbsp of gluten free Bob’s Red Mill Muesli to it for some fiber. I feel full after that (most of the time I can eat it all, but not all the time) then I wait the 30 or longer to start drinking again. By 12:30, I’m starving again, so I’ll grab a Fairlife protein shake and sip on that until it’s gone. But I’m still hungry, so I’ll wait another 30 minutes or so and by then it’s almost 2-3pm and then I’ve been having about 1/4-1/2 cup of egg salad with one of those Sargento mini triscuits and cheese things. They’re pretty small, but feel like just enough. I feel full after that too, but feel like it never lasts long enough. And by 5pm, I’m starving again. So dinner since I have one more day of soft foods, is more egg salad and another Sargento cheese and mini triscuit thing, or soup. And then between liquids, or about 8pm, I’ll have another protein yogurt. Am I doing something wrong? Is it because I’m not quite on solid foods? I am trying so hard to do this the right way.
