1. Thank you That's what I thought too... And what I had experienced for my lap band. I thought perhaps it's cause its a revision they needed three more incisions. Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
  2. Hello there. I had the sleeve done 11/2013 since then I had lost 60 pounds but gained 20 of it back. I am currently two weeks post op gastric bypass. The acid reflex with the sleeve was intense, with the bypass so far I have only experienced it once and that was when I ate right before going to bed. I dont know if this is the case with others but I do not have as much restriction with the bypass as I did the sleeve right after surgery. Eating is not as difficult as it was right after sleeve surgery. I have to say tho, I dont know if it was the scar tissue or it just being the second surgery the first two days after gastric bypass were much more painful then all the days after surgery with the sleeve. I am very curious on other peoples weight loss after a revision. Hope I provided some insight.
  3. I had the Gastric Sleeve surgery 2 1/2 years ago and I lost 70 pounds. I've kept the weight off and love my sleeve but I suffer from severe Acid Reflux. My doctor has advised that I need a revision to the RNY. Has anybody else had this??? I'm scared about having surgery again and starting all over again. Is the weight loss similar to what it was at the beginning of the sleeve? Is eating more difficult with the RNY? I don't know what to expect and I'm getting a bit nervous. If anybody could shed some light on how its been I would appreciate it.
  4. I did although she went through the RNY revision which was part of why I went with the RNY to start Sent from my SM-N930T using the BariatricPal App
  5. When I started the process to get approval for my lapband surgery in 2010, I had three children aged 19, 15 and 9. I told them in my pre-op that I wanted to be able to keep up with my youngest child-a very high energy young man. I'm in the process of revising to sleeve and yes, I'm doing this keeping my kids in mind. I want to be around long enough to see my children grow up (now 25, 21 and 15), finish schooling, get married, have kids, etc. I don't want my weight issues to burden them in the long haul.
  6. I had revision surgery from band to bypass on July7, 2016. I had that stupid band in for 5 yrs and it was a disaster. However, I too heard from the nutritionist that those of us who have this revision lose more slowly, great. Full disclosure I'm 62 yrs old, so maybe my metabolism is screwed up. I've been averaging about 2 lbs a week loss but I already had a few weeks of no loss....I started at 255, I was 238 on the day of surgery and 215 now, 11 weeks out. I am glad to have the looser clothing, even underwear...But I've had a few naysayers who I know expected to see more of a loss. I cringe at the idea of answering the question, how much have you lost? or my favorite, couldn't you have lost that without surgery? grrrrrr. So I have decided that when asked I will smile and say, I don't like to discuss it....
  7. Finally got my band to sleeve revision done. It was yesterday. First 3 hours was bad. Incision pain, general nausea, gas pains. After that I could walk and the pain subsided. Although nauseous, I tolerated Water well, and I never slimed (like I did with my lap band) and haven't thrown up yet. The first two walks, I got dizzy. That went away today. My surgery was done at 7 am, and I was released the same day at 4 pm. I was first in. I'm not hungry at all. Today, on my 2nd day I was able finished 32 oz with 1 scoop Bariclear, going to make a new one to try to get 64 oz but don't think I'll be able to get that down by the end of the day. So I see I have 7 incisions. I had like 4 for my lapband. How many did they put in you? Thanks!

Having to lose 14-20lbs before surgery

Losing weight is hard. There's no easy way around it. They do this to make sure your not using the surgery as the solution to weight loss but using it as a tool. As well as to start changing your mindset. I had the lap band about 3 years ago and am getting a revision because of a few minor complications. What works for me is low carb, cutting sugar, and high Protein. They stressed it to me before my surgery and honestly it has worked consistently. I feel better, less bloated, fuller, and have a flatter stomach when I eat this way. No juices. I can't tolerate even diet sodas which is fine. Water is best anyway. My Fitness Pal and planning out my week of meals helps keep me disciplined. The first week is rough. Particularly day 3 and 4 when the sugar/carb "withdrawl" is was really felt for me but I got through it. I also have weights, stretchy bands, and an exercise ball at home. I try to do a few reps before I go to work and before I go to sleep to help combat loose skin and tighten up. I don't overdue it.The little sore feeling is motivation for me. I would be bringing home boxes of that chik fil a grilled chicken and premake different small mason jar salads and bring them to work with me. Or maybe that same chicken with steamed/sauteed veggies. Just different things like that that you can grab and go during the week. I work nights, am a mother, and have problems sleeping well so I AM ALWAYS TIRED. I understand your pain in that area but I try to set routines, organize, and plan which help to discipline me. Try and try again until you find what works. Good luck! Wishing you all the best! 9. The liver shrinking thing is something of a debatable point within the bariatric community these days, with the current concensus being that no diet of a couple weeks makes a notable difference in the size of a diseased liver. What can be improved is the reduction of a slime coat that forms on the surface of a fatty liver, making it easier to handle for some. The normal protocol for this is a low carbohydrate diet, typically consisting of leaner meats and non-starchy vegetables. Some programs will substitute a meal or two per day with a protein shake to get patients used to them for their post-op world, but an all liquid diet provides no real benefit toward this goal. The surgeons who impose these all liquid diets seem to have something else in mind, but I have never found any good reference to it. It might be a belief in it helping get patients ready for weeks of post-op liquids that some use or may simply be a legacy of past practices ("that's the way we've always done it.") My experience has been that the surgeons who routinely do some of the most complex bariatric procedures and revisions generally don't need their patients to do these diets, even the very heaviest, implying that they're bringing tools and experiences to the table that negate the need for such pre-op treatment. These docs also tend to have more rapid post-op progressions as well, often starting with soft foods in the hospital or after only a few days of liquids rather than weeks; our info binder states that their experience has been that patients tend to do better the sooner they move from the supplements/shakes into real food. This is why I tend to look a program's pre- and post-op dietary practices as a window (one of several) on their skills and experiences. Congrats on your routine surgery and recovery, and keep up the sip, sip, sipping and the walkies! thanks, i can see your point....guess my research has not been that extensive, my dr. did tell me that they can tell by looking at the liver whether a person follows the diet or not and that many do not....but obviously the surgery still happened..for me doing the shakes before surgery, allowed me time for learning and experimenting what i liked and didnt....got so good at it, i can make a Protein Drink taste just as good as Mcdonalds shake and healthier...between a combo of unsweetened almond milk, ice, no sugar, no fat choco pudding (homemade w/ skim milk), nonfat, plain greek yogurt, vanilla protein powder...course right now, 6 days after surgery, i have omitted a few of these ingredients temporarily. 11. I am so glad that you are feeling so much better and that your body is adjusting. I'm doing a lot better these days myself. I actually am beginning to experience some constipation. I began taking a liquid supplement by Bluebonnet called Calcium Magnesium Citrate Plus Vitamin D3. It helps me tremendously by keeping me regular and soft. I take it every evening along with my evening Vitamins and medications. I have progressed to solid foods and have found that some things don't agree with me as the once did. I used to love Peanut Butter. I have found that now it's too sweet and too oily. I can't stomach red meats either. Carbmaster has a new low carb smoothie that I tried today and it didn't sit well. I think the smoothie was too thick. I can still eat Carbmaster low carb yogurt with a scoop of added Protein. As of this past Monday 29AUG16 I started going back to the YMCA so I could swim in the early mornings. Well.. I started off doing Water aerobics for thirty minutes and swimming for ten minutes before I got tired. I have been going every day this week and have been increasing my endurance. I now do water aerobics for twenty minutes and swim for twenty minutes. When I get cleared by the surgeon I will begin to add some light weight lifting on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday so I wont loose all on my fat free muscle mass. I will see him in two more weeks. I must say that my weight loss has been considerably slower. My surgeon had prepared me by informing me that the weight loss would be slower than before. I just need to relax and let the process work no matter how long it takes. I'm not competing with anyone just my preconceived ideas of how this should work for me. I'm glad that you did read my response and know that I am here if you need me. Truthfully I need as much support as I can get especially since this is a revision and I am deathly afraid of failing!!. So please keep me posted of your progress as well. I really appreciate knowing that there is someone else on this board who has a similar background as I do. I don't feel so alone anymore. Thanks
  12. While I'm pretty sure my doc did great in surgery (everything seems to work so far) and she is super up-beat and happy, there were a few small details she left out of the pre-op overview. My doc did not mention that I couldn't have ANYthing post-op of the day of surgery - no Water, no ice chips, nada. I was so thankful someone had mention Biotene mouth rinse as it was a life saver. She did not say, "where we take out your port (I was lap-band to bypass revision) is going to be really sore for probably 4 weeks. You might want to a) be mentally prepared for that and buy an abdominal binder. There was no offer of a block of any sort. The first time I stood up, I thought someone was ripping out my innards. She prescribed Lovenox injections for a week (blood thinner for clot prevention). She mentioned this in an off-hand manner during final pre-op appointment. She didn't say how I, who had never done this, was supposed to magically learn to. She did not say (despite looking at my chart in pre-op appointment) Oh - you're on hormones, you'll need to do these shots for a month, not just a week. And then forget to call the pharmacy with new scrip twice after I called her office to remind her. She also used a hospital that had nurses who were experienced with bariatric patients. Of the 5 or so RNs that I had, 4 were top notch. One in particular was amaze-balls and he showed me how to do injections and talked me through a bunch of stuff. I {{heart}} you Dustin! Any others have similar things to add?
  13. I had a revision on my bypass that was done 15 years ago. I had gained about 50 pounds and didn't want to gain anymore. I have lost in the last 3 weeks, 13 pounds... which was all in the first 10 days and none since. I am keeping to my diet, eating only about 800 calories a day... so, I hope it picks up. I wanted to come on here, cuz there is not a lot of places to talk about surgery in Mexico that are not controlled by the consultants who get you there....ever wonder why all the reviews (like on BeLiteWeight) are all POSITIVE? It's because if you have a less than perfect experience, they deny what you claim and ignore you. I am not even going to mention the rip-off financers they offer but to say we paid $300 for a credit card offered for free online and an outrageous fee to use it for the surgery… a racket but we thought this is how it is done and they told us nothing else. Come to find out later, there is A LOT they don’t mention to make more money…. Just to say, the surgery was fine, the doctors were great and the hospital, while not all that wonderful as told to us, was fine... basically a Motel 6 without the charm, but the cafe' food was good my husband says. My problems began in recovery. I was told I would not be left alone, but, I woke up totally alone. After calling out, someone came by and I mentioned I needed to urinate. I was told there was no way for that. What?? Finally, the nurse brought me a bedpan and some paper towels and left. The thing leaked all over. Did they change the sheets? No! My husband had to do that once I got back in the room! I sat on wet sheets over an hour. He had to chase down the sheets, while I tried (2 hours after the surgery), to give myself a quick sponge bath in the bathroom. I am so glad we bought our own towels and washcloths as they offered only one large towel the entire visit. The nursing staff was nice but very slow and sometimes ignored me, especially about pain control. I had, what the doctors told me, was a very long and involved surgery and I would/should be in more pain than I expected... so true! Not that I am a wimp, I had two fully natural births of 10 pound babies at home! But does being a pain wimp really matter? Everyone knows pain control is essential to promote healing. It was nearly impossible to get good pain control, and one time they tried to give me something I am allergic to...so bring a computer or smart phone a search everything they give you. The one time they got my pain under control, they refused to give me the same thing the next time. At one point, I was in tears and hyperventilating and it was absolutely no big deal to them at all! They kept pushing cheaper, less effective drugs... one way they cut costs I guess, at my expense! When I told them a certain drug had no effect at all, the answer was, “Take two.” I was not ready to leave when I did, but I was so eager to get out of there, I did go. I had some codeine in the car from a past dental treatment and thank God I did! My advice, bring your own pain meds, just in case. The other ways the cut costs is by never changing your gowns, linens or towels, cheapy breathing exercise devices, lousy TV (bring your own entertainment) and basically not having enough staff to attend to you. It was hard, at times, to get anyone to come to the room or come back quickly after a request. Not too bad, just go prepared not thinking what BeLiteWeight says is at all true. Lastly, when I reported my experience to my consultant Sylvia at BeLiteWeight, she ignored me and forwarded my email to the owner JoAnne… who, never apologized or even asked any questions about it all. NO ONE there has ever apologized, checked up on me or frankly given a damn… I guess they got their money and that’s it. Meanwhile, I have say I still feel traumatized for the pain. I have had many surgeries and never had anything near what this pain level was and the fact no one really cared what happened, hurts my soul.
  14. Thanks, all! Positive words and vibes are deeply appreciated. I weighed myself on Friday night and I was 383 - Saturday and Sunday I said goodbye to pints of beer and terrible food. I started my liquid diet 2 days early (my fiancee is having revision - band to sleeve - surgery a week before my sleeve, so I wanted to be supportive earlier ha!) on Monday and I'm down about 9.5 pounds already. So, seeing that kind of progress and knowing that it'll be easier in some respects when I'm not AS hungry really helps, too.

    Sleeved and at home recuperating!

That was the first question I asked regarding surgery Drains? Fortunately, my Dr only uses them on those patients that are having revisions. I've had 5 drains in the past, and it is the worst pain EVER!!! I'm glad your are OUT and you are on the road to recovery. Best of luck with everything! Oh and BTW, Happy Birthday!

    Need some feedback

Hi everyone, I've been a frequent lurker, but I have not interacted on the boards. I now find myself in a position that I'm unsure about and could use some feedback. I was banded in 2008. I haven't had any problems until semi recently. Two weeks ago all of the fluid was taken out of my band because I started having bad heartburn while I was sick with a summer cold. Oddly enough, this was just a little over a week after seeing my Lap Band doc and being advised to consider revision to either sleeve or gastric bypass due to not really seeing much in results. My surgery weight was 258. My lowest weight was 221. Current weight is 247. Anyway, since having all of the fluid removed, my body is all kinds of messed up. I can actually eat LESS than I could with the band. I eat, I get heartburn. I get too hungry, I get heartburn. I eat solid foods too close to bedtime, I get heartburn. I'm also experiencing lots of gas and some bloating almost every time I eat something, Yesterday, it happened with water. Now, I'm on Prilosec per my doctor. I have an EGD scheduled for Thursday of next week as well as a barium swallow the day after. They've already done an x-ray and they say that my band is in the correct position. So, I'll have some answers soon, but I want to know if anyone has any kind of experiences that might give some clue as to what's happening. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Michigan sleevers

Oops sorry about that. I was trying to comment on the post and learned that it's tough to comment on the ipad.

I couldn't resist adding to your commentary on Rachel. I was banded by Dr. Krause (who I love!) in 2010 and am in the process of revising to sleeve. She is the only one who I've come across in the Beaumont system that hasn't treated me with respect and dignity. I'm almost 53 and resent being treated like an idiot. Oh well, at least with the sleeve I won't have to see her as often as with the band!

That being said, I wouldn't go anywhere else because Krause is so good.

I'm hoping for an October date, but waiting on sleep study results.

Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Two Year Surgiversary

Thanks for sharing, I agree about the weight maintenance. I have always been able to lose weight, it is keeping it off that is the challenge. I am a band to sleeve revision. I did good w the Lap Band for the first year, then I started having problems with it. I just got revised to the sleeve, and I feel that I made the right choice. I think I will have much better results this time around. Your story gives me hope!!

    Sleeve vs bypass

Mina Dina:I met with my surgeon yesterday for my consult, and I told him about my gerd, and im gonna have an scope procedure. But what he said was, that what he is seeing with sleev patients, is 4 or5 years after the sleeve the gerd is coming back, in addition to some people having it about 3 month out of sleeve surgery. Now I thi k Im leaning toward the gastric bypass. I dont want to go through surgery again with a revision. Thank u. Its funny some people with gerd improve with the sleeve. Some have worse gerd than before the sleeve. So confusing Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  22. I am not a revision but I had a very severe case of Gerd. I literally coughed non stop for over a year before my bypass. I was on the strongest and the maximum dose of Nexium for a very long time. The surgeon told me that had I gone with the sleeve and had trouble which was very likely that they would have no way to treat it given how bad my gerd was. I had RNY and they had me continue Nexium for 30 days and then had me stop. I have never had a single episode of gerd nor even basic heart burn. I can eat foods like green pepper that I never could before. RNY cured my Gerd along with many other comorbities.

    One week Post op update

Hi! My name is Tammy and I am scheduled for my revision on October 5th. I am really excited and ready to get this excess weight off and gone for good. I could not tolerate Fluid in my band over 3ccs without vomiting. I have had the band since 2011, but have gained back all my weight and then some when they had to remove the fluid. Any advice on what to expect, what to do, not to do would be greatly appreciated. I start my 3 week pre-op liquid diet on September 14th. This will feel like the longest month I'm sure. Thanks in advance!

Revision from VSG to RNY Due to GERD

I just had my consult with my surgeon today, and i was gonna get the sleeve, but now, because of having years of gerd im leaning towards GB. My surgeon said, " that typically he,sees more reflux issues after 4 to 5 years out". But sleeve patients can and some get reflux about 3 months out also. I dont, want to have to do the revising later. Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App
  25. I was going for the sleeve but because of being a diabetic and having gerd, I'm going with GB. Generally, people with higher bmi's so go with GB or DDswitch. Mine is 42 so.... I definitely don't want to have worse acid reflux and I want the greatest chance of getting rid of diabetes. Plus, I hear about about a lot of people being revised from lap band or the sleeve to RNY and I don't want to have to get anything revised!
