CALLING ALL JULY 2016 SLEEVERS
Reason to Believe replied to Tresa Embil's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
July 7 and I cannot wait. I am so excited. I am on full liquid as of yesterday but just realized I didn't need to start it until tomorrow. Doh! I have been doing a modified for the last two weeks...two shakes, yogurt snack and high protein meal. Had a last weigh in with the nut today and am so happy I am down a total of 30lbs from my highest weight and I am hoping for another 7lbs before surgery date. -
Interesting... I was given *no* caloric guidelines. The 1200 calories was a SWAG, I haven't been counting. It's just that I've had very little problems getting soft foods (liquids, yogurt) down. Well, I'm seeing the nutritionist on Friday, so we'll see what she says I should do. Thanks for the info!

I've been watching this thread for a while, and decided I should jump on for a bit, too. My weight has been stable for the past 7 months or so, but it inches up from time to time, and I just can't seem to get to goal. I don't even know what goal should be anymore! I had been taking a diuretic, but had to come off of it because my blood pressure was too low. I gained 15 pounds in a week, and only lost 7 of it. Then I had plastics, and I've been somewhat swollen since then, so I'm still up the same 7 pounds from my lowest weight even though she removed about 6 pounds. With the holiday's coming I thought it would be good to be proactive to prevent more gain, and hopefully lose some! So I started yesterday, and came in at 520 calories. I only had Protein Shakes and yogurt, and a cheese stick. I'm going to shoot for 900-1000 today, with super low carbs. Have a nice day, everyone!

I am 1 week and 1 day post op Gastric Bypass. Today I started puréed food. Everyone talks about how fast they get full. I know I’m probably over thinking this BUT I had 1/2 of a Greek yogurt around 1:00 and around 6:00 I had a 1/2 cup of a creamy soup. In between I also kept up with my protein shake. I’m comfortable but not over full at all like everyone made it sound that I would be. Can anyone give me a little idea what you are or were taking in around this time please :)

I had my surgery 7/10 and am traveling for work. Thankfully I was able to acquire some protein shakes and triple zero yogurt but man was it a pain to track down. Does anyone have any travel tips and tricks to make sure you’re getting enough protein, hydration, and able to take all the post ops meds and vitamins?

Starting the holiday detox early, anyone wanna join me?
A lot less replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know I'm such a whinner, but I do want to do this right. For some of you that have finished the 5 days, please tell me what you ate for days 3,4, and 5. You don't have to tell me everything just give me some of the things you ate. I know that I can have (day 1 and 2) a protein shake for breakfast, yogurt or pudding for lunch and maybe another shake for dinner. Did you have yogurt or pudding for a snack or do we refrain from snacks altogether? I'm so excited about doing this and you all have been so supportive to each other. I appreciate ALL the help you can give me. Thanks in advance!!!! Luluc, congrats on the loss. :tt2: -

January 2011 Bandsters !!!
Metime replied to Renee1003's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, I'd like to join this "band" wagon! I get banded on Jan. 25. I have Blue Cross so the insurance was pretty easy. In fact I have not heard anything about it at all. The doctors office loves to work with them as I guess they are the "gold standard" as they put it. My 10 day pre op diet is coming on the 15th and I'm so so so nervous about it. The nutritionist (Nut) has said that I must have 3 servings of milk, yogurt or cottage cheese (or ricotta, but no thanks!), and 1-3 shakes (going to try Carnation Instant Breakfast (no sugar added kind) this week) per day, otherwise its broth, crystal light, sugar free soda, popsicles jello etc. Oh boy. I think I'm going to buy a big back of ice to chew on so I can chew on something!! I have an appointment with the pych on Thursday and my final appt with the doctor to go over all the results on the 19th, then surgery on the 25th! I have an ok support system. My husband would support me in anything, but he's extremely worried about "surgery". Thinks that if I would just work out more, harder, longer, whatever I could do this on my own. So that makes it a bit harder. "I support you, but I think your making a mistake" is not really support. So I'll probably be here getting my support. So nervous!! Nicole -

What have I done?
tmcx28 replied to kristennichole's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It gets better! I went through the same thing. In reality, there really isn't much you CANT have in the long run. I had a little bit of Pasta but made sure I ate the chicken first. I certainly won't make a habit out of it but it's nice to know that if I want a small portion I can have it and it's not the end of the world. I still get repulsed by some foods at 9 weeks out. Yogurt is absolutely disgusting and I can't get it down even though I try. Right after surgery Protein shakes in all forms made me gag. It's much more pleasant once you get moved to real food. -
Salad Dressing Suggestions

Try mixing ranch dressing mix with Greek yogurt and a bit of milk. Tastes remarkably like the real deal! -
Those who say they can only eat 2 or 3 bites ?
Momonanomo replied to vegasneon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sleeved 15 weeks here. When I think of a bite for me currently, it is equivalent to about 1/3 to 1/2 of a tablespoon I would say, whereas before surgery a bite for me could be about a tablespoon I think. There are 16 tablespoons in a cup, so a quarter cup would be 4 tablespoons (presurgery bites). . ..I don't feel like doing the math to figure out what a quarter cup in pmy postsurgery bites is it is less than a quarter cup tho, safe to say. If I'm eating chicken, beef, pork etc., I can only get about 4 bites in before I am full. eggs and fish I can do maybe 6 bites. I have been known to spit out that last bite that I realize while chewing will end up being one too many. What I do instead of measuring cups or bites is to measure ounces or grams on my little food scale. I measure out 3 oz of my Protein, and usually have 1 to 1 1/2 oz left when I'm done eating. ANYways, all of this only applies to eating protein. If I'm eating pudding or yogurt, I can defntly get more than a couple of bites in. -
Had mine 5/5. Getting tired of liquids already. Miss yogurt. Yikes! Trying to get creative and hang in there. On the other hand my surgery went great. We can do this!

For real! Day 10 here and I usually LOVE soup but this just may change my mind about that. LOL It's like, when you feel hungry no amount of broth, water, or yogurt is gonna cut it. I NEED MEAT!! LOL -

A days diet after VSG- Can anyone give examples?
ElyQuint replied to SleevesUp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
6 months out: breakfast 2 morningstar sausage patties; snack: polly-o string cheese; lunch dannon light & fit 2x protein Greek yogurt with hemp hearts; snack nuts or cottage cheese; dinner 1/2 avocado with salt, pepper and cumin, 2 wedges artisanal cheese and 5 olives; dessert: dark chocolate covered roasted edamame. That's the ideal day. I'd love to get more veggies on the regular but they usually come via a vegan protein shake. -
A days diet after VSG- Can anyone give examples?
livvsmum replied to SleevesUp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The answer to this question really depends on where you are in the post op cycle. I'll give you my typical day from the 2 years post op view, but you may be looking for something more immediate. Not sure.... Breakfast - Protein oatmeal most mornings from bariwise, and of course coffee. OR iced caramel latte (small) with skim milk and sugar free syrup (but not both the oatmeal and the latte....that would be way too many carbs) Nothing between breakfast and lunch Lunch - Usually a version of a salad with grilled chicken, maybe a hard boiled egg chopped up with it for extra protein,, and a fat free dressing. I always eat the chicken off first and then have just a little room for salad after that. Something else that I like, depending on whether our cafe at work is open or not, is a scoop of chicken salad, a tiny salad, and 2 saltine crackers to scoop the chicken salad up with. Afternoon - I usually have a snack of some sort - either a snack sized protein shake, a greek yogurt, a fat free cheese stick, peanuts, etc. dinner - Usually whatever I make for my family, just in smaller portion and I eat the protein part of the meal first. If they are having Pasta, I avoid that altogether (or pizza) and saute up some shrimp with lite soy sauce. That's a quick and easy go-to single serving meal for me. I throw in a few pieces of frozen broccoli and it's delicious. Evening Snack - I try to avoid this altogether, but sometimes my family is snacking and I just can't resist. I keep sugar free popsicles, protein pudding from bariwise, peanuts, fat-free cheese stick, or sugar free Jello on hand for these kinds of cravings. -

So over puree!! Dreaming f food with crunch such as a prawn salad. 2 weeks to go, not that I could get something like that down at the moment! This not feeling hungry s strange. I do feel empty at times especially on first waking up in the morning, but it''s different. I was even full eating half a cup of strawberries and yogurt last night and could not finish it. Sent from my iPad using VST

I added my modified my optislim tomato soup recipe to the Recipe Swap board. I'm going to try blending my Protein shake powder into yogurt for dinner. Lets see how it goes. Edit to add that it's really good! Would be even better with vanilla or banana I think!

I was sleeved 1/5 and had my first follow up with surgeon on 1/21. I am down 22 lbs! I don't have a scale at home so will not weigh again until I see him next month. I will be starting soft/puree foods, Monday ,when I will be three weeks out. I am so looking forward to anything other than the mashed potato, cream based Soup and yogurt that I am currently eating along with my Protein shake. Still not meeting my protein/fluid requirements but it's getting easier everyday.

Although I don't have really great restriction, I have some and what I have found to be really easy to eat, especially for breakfast or snack is some greek yogurt with berries of all kinds and maybe some banana with granola and splenda. It's so yummy and easy to eat.

I haven't had the refried beans do you know why they said no? I had scrambled eggs w/ cheese; flounder sauteed in lemon and a teaspoon of butter, yogurt (greek). On Tuesday when you go to mushy you still can't have refried beans? I am trying the ricotta recipe tomorrow. -
