  1. So I had the sleeve done 3/14 and so far I have no issues. My stomach tolerates everything I introduce. I can intake liquids with ease and i have restriction with food. The day I arrived my weight was 311. Day of surgery I asked to weigh again I was 306. After surgery I weighed myself (I know I wasn’t supposed to I was 295). Today I’m 299.8 and I’m scared to be back over 300 lbs but why am I gaining weight? I’m not even eating enough food to be gaining anything. Is this normal? I’m so afraid of messing this up or failing but seeing the scale go up is sending my anxiety through the roof.

    Pregnancy after sleeve UPDATE

Congratulations! I got pregnant while still overweight and the goal was to maintain weight, so don’t worry about stalls. Also my midwife said babies are like parasites and get what they need from our bodies whatever else we are doing. Sounds like you’re getting excellent care. I’m a teacher too and caught Covid right after the masks came off. It was brutal with double pneumonia even though I had had Covid in 2020 and had all my shots and boosters. Just an observation in my son’s pediatrician’s office and from my elementary school, this version of Covid is causing a lot of secondary bacterial infections and creating Diabetes I, Crohn’s disease, and PANDAS. If you’re not getting better from Covid at week 2 keep asking questions and ask for antibiotics. I’m not a doctor! My school has 200 kids and 4 brand new cases of Diabetes I, 3 Crohn’s, and 1 Pandas is a lot. Something’s going on, ask questions.
  3. I received gastric sleeve surgery back in 2014. After finding out that I have another hernia and bad acid reflux and some weight gain I was informed to look into the bypass. I just received my approval for a June surgery date and I’m terrified. Has anyone else gone through something similar if so do you have any advice?

    Weightloss stall during your period?

I'm still sorting out the pattern, but I think my weight loss stalls out/slows way down during my period. Mine isn't every 30 days but when your husband notices the pattern it is probably happening. LOL!
  5. I’m sure lots of peeps will chime in with their experiences, but pls remember it does not mean that is how your experience will play out! Insert standard mantra here: “We are all different “. With that said: At my one year mark, i could not eat a “normal” person’s amount if food in volume. (I still can’t, even at 3.5 years out). But…i could (and can) eat a “normal” person’s amount of food in calories. Not a big eaters amount of calories, but like a normal, healthy-weighted woman who doesn’t really diet but is aware of what she eats amount of calories. In terms of speed, i was super duper crazy slow in the first year or so and sped up a little as time went by. Im still slower than everyone around me, but i eat much less than them, so it kinda evens out…sometimes.
  6. I am 8 months post surgery and have hit my ideal weight. But I still can't eat like a normal person. 2 spoons of anything and I feel full. I have to wait another 15 minutes to eat another 2 spoons. I'm losing more weight than expected and I'm worried that I might be underweight soon. I don't wish to eat like I did pre-surgery but I do wish I can eat at least half the portion I used to eat at half the time. A normal portion of food takes me an hour or two to finish. I'm worried that I'll be malnourished and losing a lot of hair because of it. I've seen that some people have gained back some weight after a year into their surgery. I just want to eat like a normal person again. Sort of regret getting the surgery because I did not anticipate the depression that comes with not being able to eat and the muscle loss I've experienced. Can anyone share their experience 1 year post surgery? I need to know if I can eat normally again. 2 3 bites of food and then being full and not wanting to eat anymore is torture and unhealthy for my body.

    Regrets...anyone?

I'm post op Lap Band removal, but pre op for Gastric Bypass. I suppose I regret not having it removed sooner instead of living with GERD for several years. I mean I lost a lot of weight with its help, but I regret not making a better choice when I chose Lap Band. I was trying to go the less invasive route, but it never led me down a path that allowed me to lose all of the weight I wanted to, then GERD happened. I never thought I was a candidate for Gastric Bypass due to certain health issues. But then GERD forced my hand to consider it, and well... here I am pre op for RNY, so I sort of feel the same way Pollito does, I wish I would've made a change sooner rather than wait. Life may have been different for me for the last ten or so years.

    Regrets...anyone?

I don't regret getting the lap band twenty years ago. I weighed 315 lbs. & wanted to get down to about 150 lbs. I got down to around 190 & I felt great! I've had issues with the band & had to have all the saline removed & regained some of the weight so I'm back up to 240. In some ways, I wish I had gotten a gastric bypass but I wasn't ready. I had kids & wasn't comfortable with getting such a radical surgery when they were so young. I made the best decision at the time. Most doctors don't do the band anymore but it has helped me a lot even if I'm having some trouble with it now. Sent from my Pixel 4a using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. So at some point i theorize that each of us have to realize what it takes to maintain a certain weight and IF we are willing to put in the effort to stay there (and the reality is it will easier to do for some more than others). I spent a good two years gaining and losing the same 3-5 lbs in an effort to stay as close to the bottom (or preferably below) my self-imposed “happy weight range”. If/when i got within 1-2 lbs of the top of this range i was already going into self-correct mode. It happened often enough to become a chore. So I finally decided to up this range by 5 lbs last year and its like a weight off my shoulders. I haven’t had to self-correct since. Honestly it feels ridiculous now given that my happy weight range was a measly 5lb spread, but when i was committed to that original range, i took it very seriously and as a result it was a source of some low-key anxiety at times. It’s difficult to do, to switch gears from something you’ve been doing/thinking/believing for so long and that produced results in the past. As time goes by, i have been appreciating the value of peace of mind over numbers. But thats just me. So…are you content with where you are? Physically, emotionally and all that? If not, will the efforts required to achieve this content make you more or less content than u are now? You decide. Whichever way you choose, there are a ton of people on here that will support you either way. Good Luck! ❤️

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I also struggle with straight water. I have read tha alkaline water is easier... but I don't like to pay for it. When my costco has it, I buy a case of the Gatorade Zero with Protein and then dilute it 50/50 with water to stretch the pennies and also get more fluid in. 4 and 1/2 months out from surgery plus my 1 week prep ... I'm down 97 lbs. I'm at a point where I've been at this weight a couple times in my adult life. What will be interesting and probably weird... is how I will look and feel after another 5 or 6 months when I'm back to weights closer to high school and college.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Thanks so much on the great reply. I have been telling everyone from the start that it's not so much how much weight I have lost but how I feel and what I can do differently now. And as for all that I am 100 percent there 😁, but looking at everyone's posts over a year post surg I let my mind go there where I feel it's not enough 🤔. I am still working on the balance and I will definitely celebrate my goals so far, no diabetic meds, no heart meds. Ect. Congrats on all your accomplishments 🤜🤛👍🙌.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

I have the same problem with coffee. I don’t drink fast enough now and I hate cold coffee. So I got an Ember Mug. It was expensive but it is amazing. Piping hot coffee all morning long. And I am saving a fortune on the Starbucks below where I work. So I feel it paid for itself. Congrats to everyone on the dedication. I haven’t had many issues this last month. My weight loss has slowed down but I am flirting with hitting 199 lbs which will be a huge mental milestone dropping out of the 200s.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

I hope that you are doing better. Congrats on your 100+ weight loss. You are at 11 months now. Almost at your 1 year mark in a few weeks. Are you planning to do anything to celebrate? I'm deciding how to acknowledge this huge success 😁 wondering what people are thinking about.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Congrats on all your progress. Any plans to do anything to acknowledge your progress and surgerversary? Sorry to hear that you are having difficulty losing those last 12 pounds. I'm not sure I can be helpful with suggestions since it sounds like you have tried many things so far. I would say making a change to exercise or food intake, but I'm guessing that you've done both in different ways so far. I did not have a weight goal when I started my process. My goal was no CPAP and BP pills. A specific number for the scale was NOT on my motivation list. When I got rid of the CPAP, I was thrilled. Exact weight wise, my body kind of chose a slowing point for weight loss. I started to see myself as smaller and felt ok with the size. I actually became concerned about not wanting to get smaller because did not want to look sick or be too little since that's not really me. I then looked at the number on the scale and chose what I thought was a good buffer weight since weight will fluctuate by a few pounds as we are living life. So, I picked the number that way. I was only like 3 pounds away from that selected goal weight at that time. I kept eating by the plan from my surgery program and I lost those 3 pounds to hit the goal weight. I think that took maybe around a month or so. It was slower at that point as my body had found its resting point. I was fine with that. I will say that I've lost 3 more pounds since getting to my goal weight. That's fine with me. Gives me more space for fluctuating. I still eat according to plan. I weigh every morning without any emotional distress. It holds me accountable for anything I did the prior day. I'm saying all this to just say that perhaps you can celebrate success where you are. I read so many people post goal weights here and how some struggle with frustration at times due to difficulty getting to that exact number. Perhaps that's not the best strategy. Just my thought. Like if I weighed 5 pounds more, would I be ok with that. Yep. Just sharing so maybe you can have less frustration about where you are. Sounds like you did great. Congrats! 🤗🙋‍♀️👍
  16. Wow that really is a big difference - looks fab! I think I would be too chicken to have it myself though - pain is to be avoided at all costs I'm sure you're thrilled with how you look having had those little nips and tucks - it's like the icing on the cake of weight loss My belly is getting really flabby now 70lbs into this but I'm a big fan of spanx and so far they're really doing the job. I have a holiday in July so will need to see how I feel in swimwear - I suspect a lot better than the last time I wore it, and I will be getting some with all the underwiring and pulling in power I possible can! (Any recommendations anyone?)
  17. Yea I’m not eating bad food either. I am just eating more of the food I have been eating because I am still hungry. I did lose one pound though so I’m hoping I at least won’t gain anymore. I know One pound could be water weight but I’m cautiously optimistic.

VSG to RNY - Not excited

And we had no clue of your bias 😂 Complications for MGB and RYN may be similar since they both deal with bypass aspect. MGB may be more cuz of higher amount of bypass? As for reversible aspect, surgeons don't advise reversing any such procedure unless of course needed. Even with RYN, reversing is possible since your bypassed stomach is still within you. As for higher weight loss, I think it comes from the fact that more intestine is bypassed than RYN. But eventually they both do provide substantial weight loss overall.
  19. Hello all, has anyone had any luck with getting their secondary insurance to pay for their surgery when the primary doesn't cover it? My employer provided healthcare insurance is Florida Blue & it sucks. There's an exclusion for everything related to bariatric surgery - no band, balloon, gastric bypass, sleeve, revision, or repair of previous surgeries. My secondary insurance, BCBS Michigan, covers everything. It's a great plan and I hardly had to pay for anything when I got the lapband 20 years ago. I've had trouble with the band & I want to get it removed. I would like to get a revision to a gastric bypass so I don't regain all the weight I lost. I've made some calls to surgeons & was told by one insurance coordinator that if my primary rejects paying for it then my secondary won't pay for it because that's "coordination of benefit". Arrrghh I'm going to see a surgeon in a couple weeks. I haven't seen a bariatric doctor in 10 years (my bad). [emoji44][emoji38] I had talked myself out of the fear of getting a revision to a bypass & now it seems that I can't get it. I'm so mad at my employer for providing minimal, crappy insurance & that having secondary insurance doesn't help at all. Background: I'm 5'5 & 240 now. I was 5'6 & 315 in 2002 when I got the band. I got down to 195 but had saline removed 10 years ago after having some problems. Now I have GERD & some other issues. Sent from my Pixel 4a using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. Lost all my excess weight after revision from vsg to rny, and it was faster for me. I had to do it for gerd. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Regrets...anyone?

That ( the restriction) truly depends on the person and the surgeon. It is different for everyone. I am 8 months po. Would I do the surgery again, I don't know, would I have lost weight without it probably not. Yes you will be able to eat a whole slice if pizza. I ate 3 slices of a small pizza in 1 sitting.

    Regrets...anyone?

Absolutely none and I didn’t quite reach my goal weight and gained ten pounds yet I’m still thrilled to be just “overweight” now.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

LMFAO Noooooo! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I would be dead with that kinda # 🤣 May be I worded it wrong lol. I meant I am down to 161.6, that's my current weight. You can see my #s in my profile. Heighest weight 234. Surgery weight 210. And at the end of 4 months 161.6. I had only lost about 7 pounds in the month of Feb and basically was on the slower side of weight loss hence 13 pounds last month has been pretty good for my pace.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

And it's the end of month 4 for me 🥳 Last month was so much better in terms of weight loss and finding out the kinda schedule that works for consistency. I clocked in 13 pounds last month and I am down to 161.6 - Still a long way to go, but couldn't have been happier with what I have achieved so far. I hope everyone else is doing just as good or even better. 🤗
