    need some support..

It all depends, the amount of fills it takes is different with everyone. I had restriction after the 1st fill, but it went away after a month, (fat between the band and stomach made it loosen up). Since i have had 3 more fills and am finally feeling restriction again, but not quite enough yet. I suspect 1 more fill (that is a total of 5) will get me there. Hang in there, it is a process and it takes time.

    need some support..

I really don't know if i will get my second fill. thought every month according to my book they gave me i should get a fill but my doctor said last month if i feel full then he wouldn't feel me so i don't know what to tell him this month cause i have been out of whack since last month , it like thru me for a loop. but i am suppose to go back to the doctor on the 28 th and don't know if he will do a fillor not i will need to gadge it closer and see what happens in the next 2 weeks and see if i need a fill. ucdep99
  3. @ DJMOHR : you sounded right on point, I did research for atleast two years because of all the horror stories, surprisingly 85% of those stories were from people who had not committed or followed their plan, I is always interesting to hear people say "I don't wanna stretch out my sleeve" it is virtually impossible, as a rule of thumb and pulling various studies the number for me was 6 -8oz of size ( sizes always vary due to how much a surgeon pulls), depending on food type I can generally hold 3-4oz and on the 10th I will be one month out, I don't ever wanna go over 5-6oz so I am training myself to eating the amounts I hold now, I think the only drawback so far is that even though I get in my 64oz of fluids and learned how to sip, I still occasionally get the strong urge to chug a drink especially after my workouts.......... Oh well could be worse, I could still be trying to avoid booths at restaurants.....lol

    5 weeks post op

I'm almost 6 years post op and still remember the first bite of mashed potato when I progressed to "mushies". So feeling some restriction when you've started solids doesn't surprise me at all. It's a learning curve to say the least, chewing correctly. Not sure of your preop and postop "diets", but for me it had been quite a while since I'd had anything to "eat". You may find that whatever solids you are eating now, may cause no sensation in a week or so. Your surgeon may have left some saline in your band during surgery.... its not that uncommon. Just make sure you chew, chew, chew. Best wishes!

    A fill during surgery?

Some drs put some in at surgery and some don't. My dr put 3cc in my 10cc band at surgery. I don't think most drs put that much in at surgery because I had been reading this board for a few months before my surgery and I was really suprised when my husband told me he filled my band to 3, and I actually thought my husband misunderstood, but at my post op appointment I found out he really did. I had some restriction when I first started eating mushies, but it didn't last long at all.
  6. Hang in there...we CAN do it. I am feeling like a total failure at the moment..but telling myself I didn't go through all this to not have it work...and I know that the biggest part of this working is ME with the help of my band. I need the right positive mental attitude coz I really don't want to fail at weight loss...yet again. I have not seen the good weight loss some of you have at 3 weeks out like me..but I am trying to stay positive and let this be a life changing experience. Some days its easier than others. You can message me anytime...I think you are doing awesome.
  7. No fruits, really? Strange! I was having this weeks ago (I'm 7 weeks post-op). It really baffles me how different the requirements are across surgeons. I haven't had any raw vegetables yet, except spinach and leafy ones. I think mine requires cooking them all until 8-9 weeks out. But I'd suggest taking tiny bites, and chewing it up real well before swallowing. Then wait a minute or two, and try again. Ease into it.
  8. two weeks out and melba toast/crackers??? that sounds pretty advanced to me. My advice- don't drink! Get up walk around, take a hot shower (that always helps me). It will either go down or come up- but you will be miserable in the meantime. When it does, stick with liquids for 48 hours as your stoma is probably pretty swollen. If it does not resolve in a couple of hours you may need to contact your surgeon- or whatever they have you do at 1 in the morning. though I do not wish to contradict what your surgeon says, being more conservative could not hurt. My surgery center's protocol was liquids for 2 weeks, mushies 2 weeks, then regular foods as tolerated. And crackers were not on our mushies list. I will be online for a little while longer if you want to PM or ask anything else. Let us know how it goes!! Good luck.

    Question Regarding Size (Xpost)

Tiff, thank you so much for you words of wisdom. I have pretty much read all of the threads on this board, and am very impressed by your journey. You sure have been through it all. I am hoping that my journey is less eventful. I am leaning towards the single procedure. I have 3 y/o twins and an 8 y/o, so less down time is better for me. I am also going to ask for a smaller bougie, I just figured it out and 150 cc is about 5 oz, and I think I would like about 4 oz in the end. I also called my insurance, and as long as there is a problem with my band, they should cover it. I currently have a prolapse, so i think that is problem enough! Thanks for getting back to me, I will keep reading along with you all now that I am going to be a sleever!! I'm so excited!! Patti
  10. Had a revision surgery done on 10-16-10. Wasn't sure my band could be left in or not. But with great luck I was able to keep it. They did a endoscopy to make sure my stomach tissue was still ok. So now its starting all over again. No fluid in band now, will see maybe in 2 weeks they will put some in. Although can't eat a whole lot now anyway. Question for all banders out there, did any of you suddenly start your monthly cycle after surgery. I am mid cycle and am having a period now. Also anyone having trouble taking oxycodone pain meds? It makes me not able to focus my eyes.

    Wondering About Food Processor?

I have a food processor but I didn't use it much to prepare food for my postop diet . I made Soups but I blitzed those with a hand held blender. For mushies I ate foods that were naturally soft e.g tuna, avo. mashed potato. I think the only thing I used it for was to grate veggies to make veggie lasagne or to add extra veggies to sauces. If you will get a lot of use out of it later on then go ahead and buy one, but if you are only going to use it for 2 weeks of post op diet then it is not worth it and you can easily manage without it.

    Severe Back Pain

As a registered nurse, you already know what I'm going to say. 1) Medical conditions cannot be diagnosed via internet. Whether through self diagnosis after reading a few articles or finding posts that describe similar symptoms nor through ignorant people who use their limited knowledge to give medical advice far out of their scope of knowledge, experience and expertise. 2) If you think the symptoms correlate with your fill, than the logical next step is to get an unfill. Just like going to the doctors, you have to eliminate sources of pain/disease/illness etc to find the answer 3) I know you may not have insurance, however, if this is not related to the band and is a medical emergency than you are taking a gamble your life can't afford.
  16. This was a concern of mine but the surgery was important to me. i scheduled the surgery, then contacted my PCP and I asked him if he would do my follow-up. (I just got back this am from Mexico). He researched it a little bit, including my surgeon of choice. We did complete labs and pre-op before I left, not that we doubted the surgeon in Mexico, but to insure I was a good candidate before I invested time, money, and effort. I will go in to see him in 3 months and we will check labs to see how I am doing. I would definitely recommend getting a primary doctor AHEAD of time to do your follow-ups. It's good to have someone on your side and peace of mind instead of needing one at the last minute and not being able to find one. For emergencies, you will have to go to an emergency room, which is the case in most emergencies. (Lol - sounds like an oxymoron) Hope this helps.

    unclear on exercising

Wow girl! You are an exercise fool. I thought I was until reading this. It sounds like you are very determined to get the weight off. Good for you. I go to the gym 4 days per week and ride my bicycle most nights after work and on my days off of work. I ride anywhere from 10-30 miles, just depends on how much time I have. You go girl:thumbup:

    insurance

Hello everyone! This is my first post. I'm very excited about getting a lap band. Last week I went to a seminar given by Dr. Chua in Milwaukee and this Friday I have an appt. to see the nutritionist and the psychologist. I called my insurance and they do cover bariatric surgery however someone at Dr. Chua's office said that my insurance (WPS) does not cover the lap band because they consider it experimental. I would rather have the lap band insted to getting the bypass done. I'm wondering if anyone out there has a lap band that has WPS insurance?:phanvan:(
  19. Hello everyone, I'm 5 weeks post op. I'm just wondering what you all had in mind to enjoy Mother's Day without going to a restaurant. I'm in the soft foods phase. So it would be great to hear ideas from people that are in the boat.

    Question

We have all done the slow sipping, I will say I was NOT able to drink anything super cold the first 3-5 days. It caused my stomach to cramp and hurt. I did better on room temp Water, or warm drinks, like warm decaf tea (what I was served in the hospital) and warm chicken broth. It seems to sooth the soreness away, and also I felt like I was getting real food in me.

    Mini Goal...?

I would say that it would probably be possible...thats 3 pounds a week. How fast are you losing right now? Have you had fills already? Do you have any ore scheduled before then? I think all of these things would be factors. I'm not currently losing that fast...only about 1.5 - 2 lbs a week but I'm sure if I really tried I could bump it up to 3 pounds. Good luck to you!!

    Tanning/Sunscreen

Wow yeah I was told to protect mine for a year and I've been doing just that. I'd rather have no tan (wearing long sleeve gauzy button up open shirt over sunscreen) or keep the tape on and have white stripe for a few weeks than have less than optimal scar forever. I say keep them covered.
  25. I am 3 days postop and I occasionally can feel my sleeve when something is passing through. It's a weird feeling yet very painful at the same time. Had anyone experienced this?
