  3. Age: 19 HW: 296 SW: 280 CW: 257 I’m 7 weeks post-op and I was solid at the gym for about two weeks when I got the approval from my surgeon then my schedule got pretty hectic and stopped but I’m down 39 pounds so far and ready to get back to the gym! What’s your favorite workouts to do at the gym (or at home)? I currently work out at LA Fitness I mainly do cardio but I’m interested in signing up for the classes they offer there such as yoga and kick boxing.

j.s. Again, thanks for all the information.....what insurance do you have? So, minus the smoking thing (I applaud you....it is hard to stop....I quit 10 years ago after smoking for 22 years) I could be looking at maybe around October if not earlier?! I am just so excited....can't stop thinking about it! Were you that way too? Margo
  5. Kykhinkle I'm glad to hear your feeling better it certainly gives me hope that relief is around the corner. My dr called in norco pill form which is giving me more relief. I only got down 2 oz of my protein shake some broth and water. The gas has been traveling to my neck back and shoulder. I've been using a heating pad that seems to be helping. I haven't weighed myself yet because if I've gained any weight I think I'll start crying. when I went got my pre op testing at the end of august I weighed 240 yesterday I weighed 221 so I've lost 19 lbs so far. I'm very pleased with that considering I have an under active thyroid that slows my weight loss a lot.

    constipation

I will also say smooth move tea works wonders ! Make sure you let the tea bag steep for 10-15 minutes before you take it out of the water and it works like a charm. I have been on heavy duty narcotics for a few years so I am a bit too familiar with constipation. Smooth move tea works every time with no cramping, no side effects and you can buy it at Walgreens.

Vogue Writer Puts 7 Year Old On Diet

I am Bea as well, except my Mom was really my Step Father. I was constantly "derided" when it came to food... to the point where I would be physically mocked to show what I looked like as I was sitting on the couch. He would puff his cheeks out and hold his arms out around his belly to make it look like I was THAT fat. I wasn't. I was MAYBE 10 Lbs over weight. Anyway, here I am 30 years later with severe emotional problems tied to food. Parents, PLEASE don't do this to your children.
  8. Hi my name is lacey and I'm 27 years old. I am a wife and mom of 4. I have two sons 10 and 4, and two daughters 8 and 5. Prior to getting pregnant at the age 16 I was around 5ft 7 and 150 lbs. It seemed like the weight just came out of the middle of nowhere as one day u couldn't tell I was pregnant to the next I popped. I gained 80lbs my pregnancy at the end I also had preeclampsia. After I had my son the weight never seemed to come off. I since then have had 3 more kids back to back. My weight has always went up. Around 6mths ago I quit drinking Dr pepper which was my addiction and thought for sure I would have to lose some weight. That never happened.I have been considering weightloss surgery for along time but recently within last few months I have completed everything. I am so looking forward to going outside to play with my kids without running out of breath. I used to be so active and play sports myself and can't wait to do it again with my son. He asks me all the time mom do u wanna go play and I really do want to but I physically cant. It makes me feel so bad. I would like to have my self confidence back like I used to. Hard yo believe my teenage years I was selected for modeling but wouldn't believe it now. I don't expect to be likeffective I was when I was 16 but I do want to be healthy and make my hubby and kids proud of me. I should have a surgery date by friday for around 1st to middle of july. I'm so anxious and excited for the start of my new life. 1st picture before my pregnancy and weight gain 2nd and 3rd picture today weighing 286

    Phew..so much work

I had no comorbidities when I got banded, but it was fear of becoming a person who was that out of shape that made me get banded. I'd gotten to 36 and I was having a nana nap in the afternoons for pete's sake. It really scared me, thinking what my life was going to be like in another 10 years. Not to mention how invisible you become in your 40's when you become just another matronly dowdy overweight mother/worker/wife/general dogsbody who nobody views as an attractive sexual being anymore. That thought scared the living daylights out of me. I'm way too addicted to the limelight to let that happen, lol. I certainly dont feel that way now.

    I aint gettin skinny!

I lost only about 10 pounds the first 4 months because I had to keep going back to adjust fills. Its frustrating and I thought I'd be one of those that just "wasn't successful" witht he band. Here I sit now, 20 months out, and I've gone from 226 lbs to 148. I'm getting my tummy tuck in July. I'm not at goal but I am ok with where I am. I'm 46 yrs old and don't need to be super thin at this point. Best of luck!
  11. Hey Shelli--I too am on day 10 and I agree with you about wanting meat. My first choice will be a very lean charcoal grilled, out in the back yard hamburger patty!!!! Bring it on. I had to go to primary care doctor today. I have a bladder infection. They gave me a prescription for liquid Cipro and can you believe my stupid WalMart did not have it. So, now I will wait until tomorrow and get it at Kroger where I usually do anyway. While at stupid WalMart, I found a product you'll (can u tell I am Southern)might be intersted in It is Protein that you can put in an individual bottle of Water. They have several flavors. Oh, it is made by Kellogg. Lost 18.1 pounds since 8/13/07!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post Op Diet Journal - Phase 1

CindyD, if you like drinking the V8 juice, you can find the "low sodium". I find that I can drink that w/o retaining too much fluids. I have enjoyed reading this thread. I had my surgery 8/10 and I get my 1st fill next Tuesday. Trust me, everything you all went through I can certainly relate.
  13. Hi everybody- I was also banded on 8/27. I was off my pain meds after 2 days and was able to sleep relatively comfortably since about the 3rd day...I surprised myself when I woke up last night and found myself on my stomach, and wasn't uncomfortable. I have been on sugar free clear liquids plus one protein shake a day for a week. My doc did not give me specific calorie, protein or fluid intake amounts, just a list of acceptable foods. I was finally able to switch to full fluids today, thank goodness. I have found that I might get a little gassy following a meal, but nothing too bad...usually a couple of good burps, and I'm a-ok. I have managed to lose 19 lbs. in the 2 weeks I have been on liquids. Yipee! Congrats to all of you...everyone seems to be doing pretty well.
  14. herghost - Are you getting in enough water? Sometimes Dehydration can contribute to nausea. The pain meds could have something to do with it too. Have you tried getting by with just some liquid Tylenol? (I was VERY nauseous the night I spent in the hospital after surgery. I even threw up once. Luckily, I never needed any pain meds after I came home.) Frank - I too am supposed to consume 4 - 8oz protein shakes per day. I never used the protein shakes my Nutritionist recommended - Medifast. I didn't care for the flavor and they were VERY expensive. (I'm sure she gets a spiff $$) I found one on my own that I really like - Unjury. One 8oz shake w/ Skim Milk has 29 grams of Protein and 180 calories. The Medifast has less protein so I only drink 2 shakes a day. I'm still feeling VERY bloated after 4-8ozs of a shake or soup so I understand where you are coming from. I'm still struggling to get in water every day. I'm averaging 45ozs per day and I should be back up to 64ozs at this point. I've also used this stuff I got at the Health Food store - New-Whey Liquid Protein test tube. One tube is 3.3ozs - 176 calories - 42grams of Protein. They come in a few flavors but I think they taste god awful. On the days that my protein has fallen short, I've used 1/2 to a 1/3 of one to put me over my daily protein goal of 70 grams. Shelli - I don't have a follow appt until 2 weeks - on 9/10/07.

    Cheating

I am 10 days post op. I lost 17 lbs the first week and nothing since. Ugh
  16. I have to do liquids for 2 weeks. I have a follow up appointment on 9/10/07 and I'm assuming at that point I will get the go-ahead to start mushies. Then I have to do mushies for 3 weeks. Then I can switch to more solid food - nothing too crazy though - for 1 week. That should put me at 6 weeks. If I do ok after a week of "solids" I can get my first fill. My doc said baby food was ok but sometimes the carbs and calories tend to be high. That's funny you bought some stiff today because I bought some stuff for mushies today too - lol! I'm READY!! I bought some tuna, canned chicken, and refried beans. We went to Walmart so I grabbed a few non-perishables. The biggest thing I have been craving is egg salad and I'm not even a big egg fan - lol! Also cottage cheese!! PS. I am allowed pudding - the kind you make at home with a little extra milk to thin it and yogurt with no fruit chunks in it. So far, so good.

Post Op Diet Journal - Phase 1

Hi ya'll, Well it is Day 10 of Phase 1 and I don't know about you but I sure am tired of shakes and Soups. I am getting very excited about eating pureed foods. Dang I just need some real meat. I guess I really am a carnivore. I know - I know the meat will have to be pureed but I will be so happy just to have some texture if you know what I mean. Had my follow up appointment with the surgeon yesterday and he said I was doing really well. I am down 23 pounds since 8/14 so I have nothing to complain about there. I am permitted to return to all my activities except I have to wait one more week for swimming, and I can't do heavy lifting or vacuum for two more weeks. Now that it a darn shame not to be able to vacuum - heh! I have read all your posts and everyone sounds like they are doing pretty well too. Thanks for all your support and keep those posts coming. We will make it together!!!!! shelli:girl_hug:

Post Op Diet Journal - Phase 1

Hi Everybody, How is it going today?? Happy Labor Day for all in the USA. Well today is going better than yesterday. I weighed myself today(after promising my doctor I would only weigh once per week)(well, today is a week). WhooHooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Feel pretty good but got a little tired this afternoon. One of my friends brought over some homemade cream of asparagus soup. So I warmed that up for lunch and then of course strained it and it was really yummy. Measured out 1 cup but was full just after 1/2 cup. Still getting bloated after I eat. Have to ask the surgeon tomorrow how long that is going to last. Making sure I get all my Protein grams in. I am going to go for a walk in my neighborhood as soon as my stomach unbloats. Write and tell me how everyone is doing! I am down 19 pounds since 8/14 and down 30 pounds total since 8/4. Feeling very proud right now and glad I stuck to that horrendous preop diet. Take care everyone and talk to you tomorrow. shelli:girl_hug:

    Going Back To Work

I'm on my feet 10 hour shifts too and went back 7 days post op with no problems. Although due to my schedule I only worked a day then had 2 more days off. But I would have been fine, I feel I could've gone back sooner and my job involves bending and lifting dogs. I limited the dogs to 25 lb til like 3 weeks post op then I gave no restriction
  20. I'm so glad I found this site! I have very high hopes for the band can't wait to see results. I'm so tired of failed diets and feeling obsessed about my weight. I'm so glad I made this decision!

    still the same

Hi Carol- I've been reading the journal section longer than I've been writing in it. I've been reading your entries for a while now. I've never read any of the comments you've gotten before so I don't know if I'll be repeating what anyone else has said befor. Anyway- Have you tried attending a local support group? I've only gone to mine once. We only have one monthly so I havn't gone since I've been banded (I'm 2 weeks post-op). A lot of the gals there the night that I went had feedback to situtations such as yours. The main one is going to a nutritionist and following the diet they give you. Other than that, you have lost some weight... that's better than gaining right? And let's say you stay the same for the next year but then you get motivated and drop 10 or 20 more pounds and the band helps you keep it off. And if this senario keeps up then eventually you will get closer and closer to whatever your goal is. It may take a long time but it would be working. Food addiction is a hard thing. We can't just quit. We have to eat to survive. It's unfortunate for those of us who love food and use food inappropriately (for something other than just nutrition). Keep talking to your doctor... maybe see a nutritionist... seek a local support group... maybe a personal counsler to help you through this. Try not to beat yourself up too much. We are all only human. Take care of yourself. I hope things get better. ~Tina
  22. I'm seriously thinking I may have stretched my pouch out. I had surgery six months ago and have lost 37 pounds, but I've been at a total stand still for two months. I notice that I get a full/uncomfortable feeling after a few bites, but if I wait 2-3 minutes I can usually eat my full meal, which is usually 1 to 1 1/2 cups, which I know is too much. I have a 10 cc band, which should have about 4 cc in it right now and the doctor said I should be just about full. I'm extremely struggling with the head hunger lately too. My old eating habits are creeping and I'm wanting to eat a lot. I'm going to go back to giving up sugar to see if that helps with the cravings. The holiday season really threw me for a loop since I wasn't prepared for all the goodies being around all the time. I've also been drinking about 1/2 of a 20 ounce bottle of diet Coke each day, maybe a whole bottle though some days. I never have pains from the soda though. I'm thinking I can eat too much because I stretched out my pouch. Is it too late to save myself from me?:help:
  23. Hello I am having my surgery on 5/24/10. I live in Central Arizona, south of Phoenix. 5'6 currently 247 after my 6 month monitored diet. I had my pre-op today!! Seemed like it would never get here...my partner hopes to go thru the process next month. Hope to get to 145...

Banded three days ago - is this normal?

I had similar pain for about 10 days after surgery. It felt like trapped indigestion that I just couldn't burp up. If you are able to keep liquids down, hopefully you will be ok.

    I have a date!

I am scheduled for surgery on 1/13/10! I have my pre-appointments (pharmacy, anestesia, dietician, billing office) on 12/23 I start my optifast on 12/30 I find that everytime I eat I am planning what I will eat at that particular restaurant next year this time  I have ordered several samples of protein powders. So far two have not horrible aftertaste in water with Crystal Light - Bene-protein and Design Natural. The bene-protein works pretty well in potatoes as well.
