  1. I am day 6 post op also and have decided not to even torture myself with the scale. I feel like I have so much weight to lose that I am going to know when the results are coming in. Thus far I have only had water and hot tea, my physician did not talk to me about protein intake so I am not stressing on that. Tomorrow I go to full liquids for 2 full weeks and will introduce real food the weekend of Easter which should be a good test :-)
  2. Karen your expectations are a bit high. First month is generally all about healing and not weight loss. It seems that a lot of people seem to think because they just got out of surgery days ago weight is going to fall off. I went through a period of that. I didn't lose much weight at all the first month and when the weight loss did kick in it was slow and gradual. Please take a look at this thread I think you will find it helpful. Patience is a huge key in being successful. As the old expression says "Rome was not built in a day". http://www.lapbandta...d/#entry1956331
  3. You and I were sleeved on the exact same day. You have lost 85 pounds in 3 months!!! That is FREAK'N AMAZING!!! I have lost 47 pounds in the same period. I am currently in a stall and actually gained 2 pounds in this week's weigh in. I am not worried. It's a stall. If you've read enough of these posts, you know that stalls happen. Don't fret. There are many reasons for stalls--water weight, backed up plumbing, monthly cycle, etc. You're doing great. Keep doing what you're suppose to be doing and the weight WILL continue to come off as soon as your body is ready.

    OB suggested weight gain ...

First off, Congratulations! Second, I doubt that your OB will be mad if you gained a few pounds. Some lose a few pounds due to morning sickness while others gain weight the moment they pee on the stick; its all okay. As hard as it may be, you will have to temporarily stop the "diet-mindedness" and think of it as eating healthy. You can still give in to your cravings, just do it in a healthy way. I would probably get rid of the scale too, if the few pounds is causing you to want to go into diet mode. I have a sweet tooth and I was fortunate to go thru my first 2 trimesters during Spring/Summer so I was able to curb my sweet tooth with lots and lots of fruits and vegetables. Watermelon became my go-to food during this time. Enjoy the time you are pregnant. It truly is a blessing. Bond with your baby, not the scale.
  5. People are opinionated about everything. And obviously those guys haven't dealt with weight issues their whole lives or they would be more sympathetic to our plight! As for your family....my family would probably warn anyone they met about the problems with the band. I've had a VERY difficult journey and all of them want me to get it removed. But now that I'm through what I hope is the worst of the challenges, I am still glad I made the decision. Even though I'm not at my goal weight, I know I would never be in Onederland without it and would probably be well on my way up the scale! Besides how lucky are we that we have a tool to help us lose the baby weight!

    Let the games begin

A few months ago my wife and I were talking about how I am struggling to lose weight. i'm very worried that if something doesn't change I'll not be around to see my children grow up. Now I don't have any serious health problems, aside from being about 140lbs over weight! Anyways my wife brought up the topic of lapband surgery (i had it on my mind, but was scared to bring it up). After thinking it over for a few months and doing some research, I decided to make an appointment to ask my physician. A month later (yeah it takes a while to get in to see a doc with tricare prime). After voicing my concerns regarding weight, potential sleep apnea, and back pain, the Doc types out a referral for a gastric surgeon and a sleep study. I guess it helped that i suddenly seem to have developed high blood pressure. the visit seemed so anticlimatic. I expected to be given the third degree. so now here I am tied up i knots waiting to see if my referral goes through tricare for the surgeon. Hence the desire to write out my experiances thus far. From the sounds of the posts I have been reading I have a good chance of this process being approved. I hope so, because I am getting excited thinking about being able to be more active again. Soccer with the wife? Hiking with the kids? OH yeah baby.
  7. I am a champ at losing weight. I am the all time loser when it comes to keeping it off long term. That is why I got the sleeve, to help me maintain long term. Will it work? Only time will tell, I am only 9 months out. 43 pounds is great, but let's be real. 2 months of bad eating and sitting on our butts and it is all back (and it usually brings a few friends). Seeing how your health (elevated sugars) is at immediate risk, I would pull the trigger while you have the opportunity. Good luck no matter your decision.
  8. Hello! My surgery is January 18th. My surgeon only requires a 1 week preop diet to shrink the liver. I wanted to be sure I did my part in helping to decrease complications and allow my self room for error and started a week early (Now I regret it! LOL). I am now on day 7. This diet is hard! However, not impossible. My real issue is that I've only lost like 3 pounds on this diet. In fact, one day my weight went up 1/2 a pound. I'm concerned that my liver may not be shrinking because I'm not losing a lot of weight. I have not cheated and actually thought I was doing great. Has anyone else not lost a significant amount of weight on the preop diet? I would have expected to be down at least 5 pounds by now. I'm also concerned with how it will be post op. If I'm not really losing weight on the preop liquid diet, will I even lose weight with my sleeve? I'm well aware that the sleeve is just a tool and I need to work my tool but I'm doing my part now and not seeing results. So many mixed emotions and concern.

    Weight

Maybe you aren't doing anything wrong. Could be your body has reached a point of equilibrium and is just resting, aka a plateau. Try some different activities, maybe dance or stairs or bucking hay, to give your body something new to deal with. You are very lucky that your efforts have resulted in such regular, sustained weight loss. Count your blessings, be patient, don't lose faith. That last twenty pounds can be a real bitch, lap band or no lap band. And congratulations on your fine achievement!

    Weight

You have done fantastic! Congratulations! As Llyra said, you might just be on a plateau. Plus remember, the closer you are to goal, the slower the losses become. Are you tracking calories? You might gain some insight if you track calories in and calories out. Just a thought. You might try shaking up the diet. Changing the amount of fat, Protein, and carbs. Or doing a different type of exercise as previously suggested. As to the need for a fill. Are you hungry often? If you need help with hunger, then you need a fill. Otherwise, no. Meanwhile, keep up the great work! You are only 20 lbs from goal. So many people are fighting that last 20 lbs!
  11. I postponed my LB today, I'm having second thoughts, and I've been reading a lot of lb's gone bad, and it scares me. The things I have been seeing are on YouTube. some during/after surgery and some 4 to 5 years down the road. Im so depressed today this was my only solution to finally get rid of this weight. I'm I just overreacting, need some advice please.

    Makes NO sense!!

I was not a believer of the less you eat the more your body holds onto for fear of starvation, but others are, so maybe you weren't getting in enough calories and you body was thinking you were starving? I love the games our bodies play on us. Good job on the weight loss!

    Makes NO sense!!

Ok, so I have been stuck at the same weight for weeks now. I have been working out, walking the causeway for 50 minutes, watching what I eat, blah, blah, blah--- no weight loss. So, I said screw it, if I'm not lossing, I may as well eat whatever and I've slacked off on exercise this week. When what to my wondering eyes appears but 3 pounds lost in the past week. It just makes no sense. Anyone else have something which makes no sense?
  15. ickytazz

    Makes NO sense!!

working out = muscle weight. Muscle weighs more then fat. If you clothing is feeling loose then you are doing fine. If your clothing is not feeling loose, cut out the carbs and increase your Protein for a few days it should start you loosing again. Going off and back on works to, but you may plateau again. Keep it up!!!

    Looking for a Sturdy Bike

My husband bought me a Townie 21 cruiser for Mother's Day two years ago and I love it. Go to e l e c t r a. It is REALLY comfortable. I started riding on a mountain bike (two different ones) and had lots of problems that I think were weight-related. My rear never adjusted to the seat and my back and arms ached constantly when we rode and for days after. I'm sure there are lots of people on here who do great with mountain bikes but the cruiser works MUCH better for me. You sit up much straighter and there is less pressure on the arms and the back - and no problems with the rear soreness after the first couple of rides in the spring. My husband (who is a very big guy - 320 lbs - but much higher proportion of muscle to fat than me) rides a nice big mountain bike and prefers that. I'll stick with the cruiser. I love my baby blue Townie!

    weight loss?

I'm so thankful for the band! April 1 to June 24th and a 50 lb weight loss... I will take it. I personally know quite a few people who have had gastric bypass and gained all the weight back over the years. The band can be adjusted and I don't feel like I'm dieting at all. I eat very small portions and I'm completely satisfied. I'm not in the green zone yet, so I get hungry sometimes before the 4 hour mark, but I try to ignore it and eat when I'm supposed to eat. That's it. Good luck!

Today was the 1st day I felt famished!

Hi azmomo.. How r u doing now? I was banded July 9th and I feel the same as you! Hungry ;( I haven't had a fill and my next appt is aug 24.. I am not loosing any weight. Only lost 10lbs the week right after surgery .. Just wondering how you are making out? Tkss
  20. I am a low BMI loser so my weight has been the same, same 2 lbs up and down daily. I should avoid the scale, but it's right there, so... I've got that, I see what I'm eating so I know long term I am on the path. just now I looked at my upper arm and wondered if it was my imagination that it was smaller somehow. So without looking at my pre surgery measurement, I measured generously my upper arm. An inch less than my pre-op measurement! What???? Wow. So I did my smallest waist measurement which is right under the boobs. Again, was generous. Two inches less than my pre-op, what?? I swear I was fair on the befores, and generous on today's. now I am NOT telling my fellow July sleevers to do this. Probably a bit obsessive this soon. But my size still fits me fine, the scale isn't really going down... but I now think my body is using my stored fat a little. For me, it helped encourage me.

    My heaviest September 2011

  22. 4.5 months into my journey and I'm halfway there. I ve lost 45 lbs and have approx 45 to go ( I 'll decide that by how I feel when I get closer). I know it'll take me more than 4.5 months to finish as weight loss has slowed down a lot. I'm exercising, trying not to diet as much as eat right and the way I hope to eat for the rest of my life. I feel I have more of a chance of being successful if I do it that way. I have only had one fill which pretty much I cant tell, so this Monday, I go in again hopefully for another fill. This board has inspired me so much and I think I would have had alot of trouble doing this without it. Thanks alot guys. I love you all for the support advise and learning I've received from this site.

    Common misconceptions

They do follow up with them, but they start the show on their road to surgery and most of them take a long time to qualify so that is most of the show, getting them to buy in. People on 600lb Life are the worst representation of WLS patients because they are severe food addicts. Most of them lose weight post-op with terrible, trash diets, They perpetuate the myth that you can lose weight with WLS eating anything. 75% of the people that post on this and other WLS forums have trash diets too, Which is why the general population doesn't think that WLS is hard work and that everyone regains.

I feel like I look weird

I relate to everything said in this thread. I never thought I was THAT big until I started looking at side by side pics. Even when people said "wow you have lost a lot" I would always shrug it off like no I haven't. The saggy skin for my is mostly my gut and a little on my inner thigh. I wear a compression shirt everyday and that helps me and my image issues I have now. I might look into plastics at some point, but I want to wait a couple years until I have settled into my goal weight. I'm down a little over 160lb in 10 months going from a size 48 to 32/34 waist pants and 4XL to a L/XL shirt. When I started this mentally I battle if I COULD do it. Now mentally I worry about keeping the weight from coming back. I track everything I eat, but will beat myself up over little overages some days.
