    Confused about meals

Your weight loss will flucuate. You lost alot right away so don't panic. I do have 5-6 small meals a day. If I have a protein shake I don't have yogurt too, that would be way too much food all at once. Split up your foods to have your 6 small meals and don't worry the weight will come off.
  2. Today I am 1 week post op. Everyday I can accomplish a bit more physically and I'm enjoying the freedom! I weighed myself this morning and I am officially down 5 lbs this week. I checked my weight log I've been keeping since I started on my liquid diet 3 weeks ago and I am down 15lbs total!! Today is the first time I have been under 200lbs in over 8 years! I am ecstatic! I'm looking forward to one day being able to share with you all that I've hit my goal weight! I cant wait!

    Attended the seminar last night

Congratulations on taking the first step!!! It does lend a sense of reality to it all! Losing weight, and even plateaus take on new meaning when the weight does not come back! The reigning in of the hunger monster was the epitome of success to me. I too could get very emotional over it! I wish they had a support group where I live, but they don't the closest is held monthly and is almost 200 miles away. In the summer months I may try to attend a meeting, but with winter weather here to stay awhile, I won't even try. We are glad you are joining us here at LBT---if you have any questions, feel free to ask away. This is an awesome place for support! Kat
  4. Sue: Thanks so much and wow you have had amazing weight loss too! Keep up the great work!
  5. Hello everyone, this is my first time on the forum:) I'm 20 years old (yes I'm young hehe;) ) and I have been overweight my entire life and dieting the whole time too! I am 5'6 and weigh 235 lbs. I'm not sure if I meet the requirements because Im not 100 lbs overweight, but I have been really think about getting the lap band surgery lately. I live in San Diego, CA, my husband is in the Navy. I want to know if any of you are from San Diego and have found a primary care provider that is helpful in starting the process? My provider is in Coronado and makes comments every time I go in if I have gained a pound or two or three ( which really bugs me because I am ALWAYS fluctuating) and although she is overweight herself I don't think she understands. I need help! If anyone has advice I am open to it even if you are outside of san Diego, share your experiences, whatever:)

    No Fill today

It's great that your listening to your body and band! Some people get to wrapped up in getting fills to fast, they think it's going to speed up the weight loss process! In reality a lot of times it causes more problems than benefits! I can tell you have the concept of the band and I feel your going to be very successful on your journey! Your doing great!
  7. Congratulations on your success, and thank you for your advice. It really gives a good idea of what may work for me. of course we are all different and I wish it was as easy for me. My surgeon actually advised me to not snack that it would only lead to grazing. So I have done that all until now... I'm hungrier, even with me working out less then before I am still hungrier. so iam having to now snack. but only once, that's the in between Breakfast and lunch. I'm trying to avoid any other additional snacking. For me I have already experienced a gaining weight period this past Christmas , I gained about 6lbs. but since the new year I have been able to lose it. But it felt like I have struggled to do that. I have defiantly bottomed out and hit my maintenance stage I can tell for sure. And that's just the thing is finding a meal plan that makes you happy without gaining weight when you have a massive sweet tooth. I am having such a hard time, however i think it is a matter of time before I can find a way to beat this. I didn't come this far for my sweet tooth to win in the end. Thanks again for your examples, I will take some of these ideas.

Two goals hit on my 6 month bandiversary

Thats great I would love to be under 200 by christmas I have 15#'s to go. Maybe I'll reach that goal I was banded 8-11-08 I love the band so far. Also one question how do yall make yalls posts so unique with all the little cartoon animation? How much weight loss do you normally loose in a month or is it just based on the individual and their fill?

How did everyone survive the holiday?

I did pretty well. I cooked everything just as fattening as always, I figured it was a special meal, no need to give up things we have once a year. Difference was I only took a few bites of each thing. I still took in more calories than I should have, but it was probably a third of what I would have eaten before so I consider it a victory. It was really nice to enjoy the meal without the food coma wasn't it! I've kind of let my plan slide a little this week with the kids home and the holiday and all and had a couple of ups and downs on the scale but came out with no gain or loss overall so I consider that a victory also.
  10. Hi all, I'm very happy with my weight loss so far, but in completing my online food journal I've noticed I'm averaging about 6 grams of Fiber a day, whereas the amount I am allowed is 29 grams. Is anyone else having trouble getting enough fiber into their diet? On the other hand, I did set a personal best on Protein today...134 grams! :boink:
  11. I need someone to help me through these first couple of weeks. I am 23 year old female. I just had my surgery and I am already getting sick of the Protein shakes! Since the beginning of my weight loss journey, I have lost 11lbs. my beginning weight was 291.5lbs. according to my scales. My goal weight is 135-140. If you are willing to be my buddy, you can send me an e-mail. I check that more often than I am on this. Thanks. Raphaella raphaellat@gmail.com

    I have 200lbs to lose..

Yes Teresita... :hail: :heh: :heh: I'm between 5'10 and 5'11. My goal is 180 (personal goal, no idea what my surgeon's goal is) which should put me around a size 12 or 14. I used to carry my weight well until I reached almost 400 lbs. There's just no way to carry 400 lbs gracefully. As I lose I'm becoming more and more disproportionate. E.g. most of my tops are 18s or 20s, and most of my pants are 22s or 24s. I used to say I had the profile of a rubber duck. Now I have to say I'm built like a diamond all hips and thighs (and pannus ) / /

    I have 200lbs to lose..

Wow Jackal!! Just a little improvement... LOL! You look GREAT. Hugs! MusicalMomma - yeah - those insurance charts suck. I heard somewhere that your bones get more dense when you carry weight for a long time - and the insurance charts just don't take that into consideration.

    I have 200lbs to lose..

Sweetie, I weighed 350 pounds, was 61 (BMI 62) years old, had all the classic co-morbidities, 4 heart surgeries, 11 prescriptions, and was essentially housebound because of inability to walk more than a few feet and because of joint/back pain. I had given up on life and knew I had little future. I had LapBand surgery March 27 of last year. By August I had lost 50 lbs and was walking a mile a day on the treadmill. Now, almost a year later, I have lost 120 lbs (BMI 43), am no longer on any diabetic/highbloodpressure meds, and am living a normal life...much better than a lot of old broads my age..lol!! (I look younger than a lot of them, too). I need to lose another 80 lbs to reach goal but at this point I just count every pound as a bonus. I do have a large apron (I had it before losing weight....sat behind a desk too many years) and when I get to goal it will hopefully be removed (if I can rob a bank successfully). Even if I dont get rid of it, my concern is not my looks, my concern is my health - when you have lost it and get it back, it is all that much more precious. Please understand that the LapBand is not going to make you lose weight....it is simply a tool to help you get control. Many people need counseling to deal successfully with their food issues and/or the changes that take place in their life after weight loss. The main key to success is being compliant with the eating/nutrition rules....knowing the rules, understanding them, living by them - forever!! Continue to research and read and make the decision for surgery only if you think you can make the lifestyle change. Best wishes to you, sweetie........

    I have 200lbs to lose..

It is so wonderful to hear some voices of experience I have been very solitary with the lap band subject to those around me. My biggest fear is that I have "ruined myself", that I let my weight get so out of hand that there is no help for me. I am very fortunate that at the present time I have no health issues, other than it's getting more and more difficult to maintain the energy level I need to work. I have decided to attend a seminar about Lap Band. It's next week so I'm going to keep educating myself over the weekend. Thank you all for you help... I'm so very pleased I have found this sight. Need Some Advice Please Help!!!!!

I was told Weight Watchrs was not ok for my insurance. I had to see a MD for 6 months.
  17. During my 5 day preop diet, I lost 11 pounds. A week after surgery, I lost 5 pounds. During this time, I got my first fill of 1.5 cc. It's been two weeks and NO weight loss! Today, the doctor added 2.5 cc and now I'm at 4.0 cc. I am praying that with this second fill I would stop being hungry and start losing some weight.

Plateaued and need to get the drive back.

I don't have good news for you! You may have only lost 7 lbs since the beginning of the year, but you may have lost 15 lbs of fat and added 8 lbs of muscle? Losing fat is not a linear line on a chart. It seesaws with the food we eat and the exercise we do. Fitness is good but it can rob you of lbs lost. But again, it's a good thing. 10 lbs a month is usually much more than most any bander loses. Usually it's in the 4-8 lb range so you're pretty close to where you should be. It's so much easier the first 3 months post surgery to lose more weight but as we progress it gets harder. The math doesn't lie. 3500 calories equal one lb. You must burn 3500 more than you consume to lose 1 lb of fat.

    Weight Loss Question...

I think u are doing great, this isnt a fast weight loss solution and this should have been explained to you prior to surgery. Weight loss till u get to your sweet spot/full restriction with fills, will depend on your willpower mainly and wise choices with food and exercise ... the average weight loss is normally 1 to 2 lbs per week, u seem to be bang on target. This time post op up to 6 weeks is for healing and getting used to the new eating regime so dont be too impatient u seem to be doing fine as u are
  20. I honestly had fears of being an old lady and not being able to wipe my own hiney, or bathe myself and the emotional and financial toll that would put on my family. Diabetes scared the hejeebies out of me, and knowing that if I continued on the path I was on, at some point, I wouldn't be able to touch my feet to clean them properly, and then I could lose a foot due to bad circulation and not being able to take care of myself. I had this big fear of taking meds every day of my life to control or treat an obesity-related condition, and the side-effects of those drugs on my liver or kidneys. I feared my obesity would impede my chance to conceive, have a healthy pregnancy, and deliver a healthy baby. I feared dying early, or being too fat to enjoy grandchildren. All of that seems much worse than any risk that surgery brought, and believe me, I am not a good surgical candidate. I'm a long term smoker, I have a clotting disorder (my blood is missing a Protein factor that keeps me from clotting normally, and I need DDAVP before, during and after surgery and that increases my risk for DVTs even with heparin or Lovenox), I was 270lbs which large amounts of abdominal fat (makes surgery difficult), so I weighed all the pros and cons, and I went for it knowing that in the long run, surgery would get me to a healthier weight, and I would dodge all my previous fears of staying obese into my "golden years". You can check out my blog on here for some research articles, and statistics. Best wishes with your 3 month insurance requirement, and know you are doing some absolutely amazing for your future. I'm not saying there won't be struggles, but, the victories far outnumber the struggles ! ! !

    talking to my young children

Mine aren't as young as yours are, but I still struggled with how much to explain to my kids (Daughter-13; Son-10). I did not want my daughter to have any reason to watch her weight since she is very tall and slender, must get it from DH side of the family. Anyway, the kids usually start to eat first-- and by the time I sit down with them, they're more than 1/2 way finished and our portion sizes are more equal to each other. The big change was TIME. It takes much longer for me to eat now, and my son loves it. He likes to talk- A LOT. So, it's just he and I finishing up at the dinner table. I think he enjoys having more one on one time. As time went on, they understood more and more about stuff that I *couldn't* eat vs. stuff that I just didn't want to eat anymore. Oh, and we are all eating more and more grilled fish- which they love!

    Question About Fills

I don't know how the plication aspect affects fills. Will be interested to hear what your experience is. 1. but how much do they put in the first time? Depends on your surgeon's protocol & your band size, plus more (see question #3) 2. is there a set (amount)? Not that I've ever heard of. 3. what do they base it on? Your weight loss, your symptoms/side effects (if any), what and how much you're able to eat, and how long your meals keep you satisfied (in terms of physical hunger). 4. do you feel sick to your stomach afterwards? If you mean do you feel nauseated, no, I never did. Other than my reaction to the general anesthesia, nothing related to my band ever made me feel nauseated. Eating mistakes occasionally made me PB, but that's not the same as vomiting and I experienced no nausea. 5. can you request very small amounts instead of 1 or 2 cc's? Sure. Your surgeon may have other ideas about appropriate fill level amounts. If you're not comfortable with a fill amount he wants to use, tell him. Presumably he'll be willing/able to explain why he feels that amount is appropriate.

    Need guidance please!

Until you are in the green zone it is just another diet- so it has been rumored. I hate to tell you but it's not the Fluid in your band that causes you to lose weight but the quantity and quality of what you put in your mouth. I've also heard that once it is removed it takes a while to find the sweet spot even if you have the same amount in as before. If you do not want to gain weight then you will need to stick to the mathematical equation. Eat less calories that what you burn each day. This means knowing how much you burn and tracking what you eat. Lets just call these 5 lbs what they were, holiday lbs and move forward knowing that you are strong enough to work with the limited restriction you have and still lose the weight you want. Best wishes to you!
  24. On Wednesday Dec. 5, 2012 I was at 5.5cc in my 10cc band and I received a .5cc fill bringing me to 6cc. I did my liquids for the day then my mushiness then back up to regular food but I wasn't able to get anything in and finally when I couldn't even get liquids to stay down doing a lot of pbing I went in and they took out 1.5cc and set me out until Jan 2, 2013. Long story short I have gained around 5 lbs in one month with the holidays etc. but I truly didn't feel like I had any fill in. The pain I always had in my left shoulder is completely gone and on Jan. 2 I received a 1cc fill putting me back up to 5.5cc but I am finally back to regular food today and I don't feel any restriction and still no pain in my left shoulder. It doesn't feel like it did when I had the 5.5cc before. Has anyone ever had this experience or something similar? Why am I not feeling restriction this time? What do I need to do? I don't want to keep gaining!

How soon can I hold my son?

Thank you for letting me know your experience. I am going to try to plan it out and see what is best. May be, I'll keep my first 2 and let my husband take a few days off and let my mom watch my little one for me. Knowing her, she is probably going to takecare all of them. mzmouse - my doctor did not even mentioned about the weight limit. thanks for letting me know. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again
