  1. Good luck with your upcoming revision. I gained back 50% of my weight during COVID, but have recently lost it back again. I still struggle with eating due to boredom or stress.
  2. Exercise = chewing haha, never heard that one before. Congratulations on your weight loss. Thanks for the inspiration. I needed a boost today and you did it

    Food stuck...foamies-ish

Yeah the band was a NIGHTMARE. I can't believe I lived with GERD for years because I was afraid to have it removed, afraid I'd gain weight. I haven't, but I'm so ready for RNY so I can resume weight loss.

    food addict I'm not sure

I guess I'm just confused about your replies. You stated you have no mental issues, but on another thread I read your reply about having bipolar disorder. It's kind of difficult to reply to you when on one thread you admit to a condition, then on another thread you deny having mental issues. We're all here to support each other and discuss the topics surrounding weight loss surgeries. We all want to see each other be successful with weight loss, but it's hard to give support when there's hostility and denial in these threads. We have to be 100% completely honest with ourselves or else we won't be successful. I agree with other posters that have suggested counseling that encompasses not only bipolar/mood issues but also any possible issues with food. It's the best way to ensure that your weight loss surgery is successful. Weight loss surgery is a surgery on your stomach, not your brain. It will not fix any issues going on mentally. Best wishes to you.

Can I ask, are you gaining weight at the moment?
  6. Yesterday was my one year surgiversary. Weight loss surgery was an amazing decision and my only regret is not doing it sooner. At one year, I’ve lost 47% of my body weight going from a size 18-20 (2x) to a size 4-6 (small). I feel better. I can walk around and do normal tasks without being exhausted. My acid reflux has improved, no more knee pain, no more incontinence… I feel great. I have excess skin I’m considering having removed, but it sure beats all the fat. I’m down to my goal weight and praying I’m able to maintain it for the long run! Losing 106 pounds (226 to 120) was not easy and I’m scared of gaining it back. My goal now is to increase my exercise to more than just chewing (haha). Shopping for “regular” size clothes and having them fit is so much fun. I love being able to cross my legs. I don’t need the X-Large blood pressure cuff at the doctor. I don’t think I’ll ever be comfortable in a bathing suit, but I’m ok in my everyday clothes. I no longer dread having my picture taken. My BMI went from 42 (morbidly obese) to 22 (normal). My husband and son tell me they’re proud of me. Most importantly, I’m proud of myself. I was scared to have weight loss surgery, but fortunately it has turned out way better than I ever could of hoped for. I’d love to hear other peoples’ successes and hope my story inspires others considering weight loss surgery just as the stories other folks shared inspired me. HAPPY SURGIVERSARY!

Did you lose your tummy fat last?

It is said that the first place you gain weight is the last place to come off. For me that meant my calves. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    Negative comments from family members

Very true Thank you so much for your kind words. It's a bit difficult since my mom helped me pay for surgery and I live with my mom and brother at the moment so it's hard to hide We're also a close knit family so not many secrets get kept. I just realize how toxic their habits are and how they'd never be strong enough to ask for help. I pray that they do and will become better versions of themselves but im through not being able to change people. I'm losing weight quickly and making the right choices ultimately. I take my Psych meds and do regular therapy. I'm as close as I've ever felt to having a neutral relationship to food which is all I've ever strived for. It doesn't taunt me and I don't obsess over it. I'm hoping they just see how well I do and keep their mouths shut. Im moving out of this house in a month or two. I'll miss them but the distance will help me focus on myself 100% of the time. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    clothing

As a stay at home Mom, I’ve been wearing sweat pants and oversized t-shirts ever since I put on the extra weight. Fortunately, I saved ALL of the clothes from my smaller sizes (size 12 to 16). I was always determined to lose the weight, so I stored it all in Rubbermaid containers. Some clothes still have tags on them! I cannot wait to bring those containers out of the basement and wear them again!

    February 2019 weight loss buds

Hello February 2019 peeps! I’m doing okay. Gained 15 back from my all-time low, but maintaining within a 5-ish pound window now for about the last 15 months. Some days I wonder if I should try to get back into the 130’s ( I dropped all the way down to 133 at one point) but I’m hanging in the upper 140’s and feel like this is maintainable. For me, 2022 has been dubbed “The Year of the Foot” as I’ve already had one bunionectomy and will be having my left foot done next month. I was very happy to only gain 2 pounds in the 7 weeks I laid on my butt all day long with foot elevated. So here is me at 147 at my daughters wedding reception on March 5th. I was rocking a size small dress and- of course- my walking boot. I’m super excited to say that on May 10th I will be having plastics!! I’ve saved up and will be having a TT with flank lipo and a thigh lift. We are going to piggy-back it 3 weeks after foot surgery so I can minimize my time off work. Hope everyone is well. I miss you guys.

WLS is a tool that will help you lose the weight, yes. But the bigger battle is the mental battle. Get into some good counseling to talk about your food triggers and issues and good luck on your WLS journey. I have been in counseling for almost nine years and it has been a ride for sure, thank you for the kind words honestly i would like to look at food like its food and not obsess over it. Keep in touch it would be nice to make some friends around here, take care.

    psych eval

Psychologists test us to make sure we're mentally prepared to handle bariatric surgery emotionally and mentally. That's not necessary for hip surgery. Psych evaluations are tools that our surgeons use to identify those who may need counseling to work on an issue beforehand so that their weight loss surgeries are successful. It's a good thing! We all want to be successful with our surgeries, right?

As you have learned from dealing with your issues with alcoholism (Congratulations, by the way, for 10 years sober) you need to avoid triggers and you need counseling to deal with issues that cause you to not live life to your fullest or happiest (such as eating disorders, addictions, etc.) I wouldn't focus too much on putting a label on your food issues, whether it's Binge Eating Disorder or Food Addiction or just plain Morbid Obesity . . . it's clear you have an issue with food that you need to deal with. WLS is a tool that will help you lose the weight, yes. But the bigger battle is the mental battle. Get into some good counseling to talk about your food triggers and issues and good luck on your WLS journey.

    What Does Binge Eating mean

Some key points about Binge Eating Disorder: A disorder involving frequent consumption of large amounts of food, and uncontrollable eating. Common (More than 200,000 cases per year in US) Treatable by a medical professional Doesn't require lab test or imaging Can last several months or years Common for ages 18-35 More common in females Family history may increase likelihood If you think this might be an issue for you, again, I recommend you seek counseling to deal with these issues BEFORE you undergo Weight Loss Surgery.

    ONEderland!

We could be twins in spirit, you and I! Same height, almost the same starting weight, and we have a close goal weight (mine is 145 lbs). You are so close to achieving ONEderland. One big sprint, and you will cross that line. It feels so good. I'm cheering you on, WLS twin!! ♥

Did you lose your tummy fat last?

You have lost 166#, that is a lot, and you are very tall. I was 165# 20 years ago when I got married. By then I was already starting my endless diets and exercise routines which worked for a while and then bring me more weight each time. I know that works for many people I just could not find the right combination that worked for me. My psychologist told me to be merciful with myself during this period, like I would be with a dear friend who needed help. I do not hate what I see in the mirror, I still like that person (belly and all). I an happy to have found this page, it is nice to find support from people who understands exactly what I am going trough. Thanks for being kind to me.

just so you know, a 10- to 20 lb rebound from your lowest weight is VERY common in year 3. I think it's just your body settling in to a weight it feels comfortable at - your new "set point". Of course, you can still lose again if you cut enough calories - but it could be a bit of a struggle if you're fighting against where your body wants to be. I've been dealing with the same thing since year 3 (and here I am in year seven...). different things work for different people. I count calories, which my dietitian hates (she's into "intuitive eating"), but I'm obviously not cutting back enough or I'd be losing weight. It's tough... I know other vets who've done Weight Watchers, Keto, and/or intermittent fasting. Whatever works - some approaches are more effective than others, depending on the person. to respond to your questions (sort of, anyway...), I don't do low carb - but the vast majority of my carbs are the healthy kind (fruit, veggies, whole grains). I have to average around 100 grams of protein a day because I malabsorb it (we discovered this pretty soon after my surgery), and I do manage to get that in every day. Other than protein, it's really just calories for me. If I stay in the 1500-1700 range, I can maintain my weight - but I'd really love to lose 10-15 lbs (!!)

Did you lose your tummy fat last?

A few things: 1. You are about six weeks out of surgery. At six weeks, I had lost some weight and a few people noticed, but not many. I had lost about 10% of my starting body weight at six weeks (according to your sidebar, you've lost close to 15%). I am at the seven month mark and I am finally around the point where random co-workers have really noticed my weight loss. Keep it up and the before and after photos will come (my before/after looks pretty shocking). 2. Even though I have a shocking before/after, I still don't see it in the mirror. Really. Truly. If I went solely off the mirror, I would say that my face looks a little thinner, but not much else. I didn't understand how a non-insane person could have body dysmorphia until I had this surgery. I have way more sympathy for people who are anorexic after this experience.
  20. I was sleeved 9 yrs ago & lost about 90 pounds, but was not able to get to my goal I exercised diligently, ate right, & kept active. I gained back about 20% per the statistics. However, colon cancer came knocking & with chemo, inactivity & 7 mos of steroids, I gained all my weight back. I am scheduled for revision to bypass on April 14th. I know the surgery is a tool which will allow me to lose a lot of weight quickly, but after the honeymoon phase, I am wondering what tools/skills I have to change my behavioral & mental habits to make lifelong change & success. Looking for advice from others who have has long time success.

I’m a little over 3 years post op and due to bad choices have gained 18 pounds from my lowest weight. I need ideas of a typical day of eating from others who remain diligent to a low carb diet. How much protein and veggies are you in taking and do you count calories. TIA!

    Mad at myself

I am sorry for your loss and that you gained weight. As others have suggested your tool is still there you just have to get back In your groove with your nutrition and exercise. I agree that where ever you choose to begin with the gym is a great start by just making it a habit getting there (I could take my own advise here). I think your idea to talk to someone may be your best. Keep posting your progress here as I’m sure you will have several of us here in your corner along the way.

    Mad at myself

Sending hugs, and I'm very sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. Thank you for sharing your experience with weight gain after surgery. I think it is a fear that many of us have & it is unfortunate how easily the weight can come back. I hope getting the help you believe you need gets you back to where you want to be. I wish you well, and know you can do it. 😊🍀

    food addict I'm not sure

I think we have seen a number of posts from you in the past couple weeks that indicate you are really struggling with some mental/emotional issues that need to be addressed if you are going to be successful in your weight loss journey. The struggle is not only having the surgery and the weight loss begins but the mental aspect of it. You have to be mentally committed to getting it done and be able to resist temptation. In addition to the eating portion in a physical sense, if you are not mentally OK with your life and your situation, you are not going to be successful. I urge you to get some counselling ASAP if you are going to go on this weight loss journey.
