    surgery embarrassing questions

I was in a gown until they knocked me out. I never thought about being nude, I guess I was, but it doesn't count if I can't remember it! Yes I had the runs for two weeks post op (which is very unusual for me), but some people find the opposite and others no change to their regular routine. Everyone is different.

    Freaking Out A Little...

Ordered my preop diet weeks ago through a rep at my Dr. Appt. Diet starts in 3 days and it's still not here! Called the company and it "may" be here late Wednesday. I start diet Tuesday! Luckily I have some powder here to make shakes. Would Atkins or slimfast snack bars make a good substitution for a few days??

    My Band making me MONEY!

Our company did the exact same thing!! We had our own version of The biggest loser over a 10 week time frame (WAY too long BTW) and our team won!! I was completely irked that I lost out of 1st place overall by less than one pound!! Keeping in mind our last weigh in was 2 days after we got back from a 2 week trip to WDW, and I STILL lost, but I digress! We didn't win anything, but our company matched $100 for every pound lost and donated it to our local food bank. We were lucky enough to walk the check to them (for $5800) and they were BEYOND excited! So we did win, and the fat we lost was turned into food and fed thousands!! CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WIN!!!
  5. Hi! I was banded last week and I am looking for a mentor or buddy. I'm a 34yr old female and married mother of 1. I have questions and looking for someone to kind of be a sounding board on this new journey. :w00t: Thanks!
  6. I'm coming up on my 2-year bandiversary and have fallen off the wagon. I've been on a rollercoaster for the past year, and have been eating around my band and gaining and losing, gaining and losing...you get the idea. I've finally gotten myself back on track this week, but could use someone to hold myself accountable to. I've lost 154 pound so far (I had lost 162, but had a gain around my wedding last month) and have about 40 more to go. Close by or far away, doesn't matter! (I'm in central PA). Thanks!

    New Clothes...later

I started shopping at 2 months and I probably buy a shirt every other week? But i can warr thise for a couple months. I bought one pair of jeans but waiting as long as I can to buy some shorts. Also check Gabriel brothers if you live up north, or Marshalls. I love those stores. You can get tops 7 bucks pants 10-12. I can't wait to get some new skirts and sundresses :-D
  8. Once I got past the liquids stage I was able to start taking the pills whole. I was on Nexium at first and the dissolvable kind. Now I take Prilosec and it's not that large to where it was bothersome even 6-8 weeks out. I take my OTC and according to the directions it says to take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach and wait to eat about an hour. Good luck!

    Depression & Anti-Depressants

I was so scared of the psych consult! I was so freaked out and honestly it was worse in my own head that it could have ever have been in reality. It's more for ensuring you have a realistic outlook and are not rushing into such a serious surgery without the proper mentality to be ready to manage it and all of the changes as well as maintenance you will need to care for yourself for a healthy new life. Meds were honestly no problem for me. After a few weeks post op I was a bit kooky and hormonal. That's where you are honest and open with your surgeon or PCM. Because of absorption meds may have to be tweaked a bit. The key I think is to be honest during your psych eval. Many people struggle with depression just like hypertension or diabetes. Now days it's very common for people to be treated with anti depressants. A good surgeon will know how to help with your treatment.
  10. I feel just how you described. I can eat scrambled eggs, and just about anything. I am hungry and tolerating this band really well. I just wanted some security in knowing I was not stretching my pouch by eating more than what is recommended, but I guess we all can eat and tolerate food differently. I am just one of those who can progress through faster. My husband was banded a week ago and he still has trouble swallowing water and broth - gets nauseus often. He has lost 24 lbs. since the liquid diet before the surgery and it's not a healthy loss. I, on the other hand, can eat more than allowed. I guess everyone's stomach is different. Thanks for your answer.
  11. Being a nurse, I know how good it feels to be acknowledged for taking part in making someone's life better. Usual gifts we get are cookies, cake, chocolates, etc. I want to give something to the surgical clinic staff who helped give me a new life 2 weeks ago. 95% of the staff are banded themselves, so I don't want to take unhealthy food. I'm thinking fruit & veggie trays would be nice, but then again maybe something non-edible that everyone can enjoy (something for the office?) any suggestions? (Am thinking of a cap of $50-75)
  12. Newbie here, scheduled for sleeve surgery on Dec. 21. I see the dietitian tomorrow and start my two-week pre-op diet on Wednesday. Sounds like the vast majority here are on a liquid diet, but mine is more of an Atkins Phase I diet -- no more than 40 g carbs per day, but not many restrictions otherwise. Anyone else on a non-liquid pre-op diet? Is this normal? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    When Can You Go Swimming?

My dr said I could bathe or swim the next day after surgery. I would ask your dr what he suggests. That said... In my opiniom 5 days post up is a bit soon to go on a vacation. You will be on liquids which may be a challenge, you may be weak from the surgery, you may be constipated, have horrible gas and you may just feel like lying in bed. It was 2 weeks before I felt normal.
  14. I am having surg. on the 25th. I am a fit fat guy. I exercise regularly and at a fairly high level i.e. I road my bike for approx 2 hours and climbed 2000 vertical feet on three separate occasions since monday... the only reason I am saying this is I am worried about getting back to this type/level of performance... I don't want to have to give up endurance sports... do I need to be worried... also worried about water intake and occasionally food for long rides
  15. I was banded on 8/8/07 and did not suffer much. I am on my second week, and dr. said I could proceed with the next phase, eating creamy soups. I have not had problems swallowing and find it difficult to only eat 1/2 cup. I have eaten the whole can of soup - chunky soup. I process it fine, no problems there, but I am scared of what it might do to my pouch. Will eating a whole can of soup at two weeks post op expand my pouch? Is the expanding reversible by, let's say, eating only liquids again for a week? What can I do since 1/2 cup does not cut it for me?
  16. Well, today is the day. I'm down 53 pounds so I did reach my personal goal of 52 pounds by the end of the first year. I thought that was a resonable goal (one pound a week average). My size has gone down from a 22-24 to an 18 in jeans and it is very exciting not to have to shop in the Plus Sizes anymore. In tops I can fit into XL and even some L. (Feels kinda weird though after shopping plus sizes for so long.) I feel different too. I can wash my car without getting winded, I can cross my legs comfortably, I can sit on the floor to play with my grand niece and I am starting to feel I look different. I had another fill on Tuesday and I am filled to 3 cc's. I can hear all of you gasp. I had a video esophagram first so this wasn't done blindly. I've been doing liquids since except for last night when I had the insides of a calzone. So far so good. This is the best thing I ever did. I guess it would have been more exciting if I lost more then 53 but I know it's my fault as I haven't been the best Bander. I'm trying to start all over following the rules and trying not to go around them (which I am very good at) and drink more Water and will be starting back at the gym probably tomorrow. How's everyone doing?

I'm nervous Seriously, it's not all that bad at this point - after all, I'm still at LEAST several weeks out, and I don't have a surgery date scheduled yet or insurance and financials finalized. I think that makes me more nervous in some ways than the surgery itself. How are you doing? Everything settling in well now that you're a few weeks out from your surgery, lrgandwrg? Since you had the same surgeon as I will have, anything I should know about?
  19. LipstickLady

    Surgeon sums it up.

Yup. Your last line is ON POINT. Every surgeon is different. These are great general guidelines, but they are not "THE RULE". I am allowed gum/straws/alcohol. Six months was the rule by my doctor, I was given clearance at three. I had a catheter as does everyone else in our practice. No complications. 60% is the worldwide average MAYBE, but of all the sleeved people I know, ALL have exceeded 60% weight loss. I think that's an extremely low estimate. Everyone I know hit their goal, or are within 10 pounds of it. I know you said it, and I agree with you. Everyone's surgeon is different. Follow your team. After all, you entrusted them with your life.

    STRESS and the band

She sounds like she's from the old "don't smile til Thanksgiving" teacher style. Is it her first time as principal? My guess is she's trying to establish her authority and will lighten up as the weeks go by. Just keep smiling at her and do your job and show her what you're made of. Ask her opinion and advice when you can and build up her ego, let her know you respect her authority. And about your "closet"....the best person to register a complaint is one of the parents.....drop the right info to the right parents and they'll take care of the situation. At least that's been my experience. Hope things get better.

    Waiting.....

I'm waiting for my insurance to approve my surgery. Feeling so nervous. I told myself I wouldn't be, but it's been almost a week and I have not heard anything yet. My surgery is scheduled for the 29th.

    When to adjust?

:help: Banded 10/30/06 1st week liquids 2cnd week mushy I am able to eat too much I think:omg: . I had a cup of Soup and some crackers well chewed and drank a small apple juice. I thought I wasn't supposed to be able to eat more than 1/2 cup. Could I need a fill at only 2 weeks post op?? How do I know I need a fill? Pam:confused:
  25. I have always enjoyed margaritas with friends at the local cantina along with the rich food. Since the band yes there were major cut backs. I continued to drink though and really to much and to often. My weightloss was consistent but slow. For the last 5 weeks I have not been to my favorite spanish resturaunt and the scale has noticed. My weightloss doubled over the last three weeks. I was drinking a lot of calories bottom line. Eating the food went hand in hand. I am now getting back into cooking my own food. My band is good to me as I can eat most anything with caution and limits. I wanted to share this because I did not think a couple drinks a couple times a week would have such an effect on my weight loss but it did. Don't be fooled like me and don't let anything stand in the way of our quest for being healthy! I'm in the 50lb club now and with renewed vigor!
