Remember that the 1st 6 weeks is really for healing, and that should be your focus. The weight loss is a pleasant side-effect. Please don't worry about this at this early point. Start practicing taking the long-term point of view, don't rush things, and stay focused on health. I promise you will be happier and healthier, and you will lose weight. This is not a race. You are doing great, don't jeopardize it by getting in a big hurry. Good luck! Cindy

Weekend Away And First Flu Post Sleeve

Congrats on the weight loss! Have you tried taking garlic or ginger? I'm not much of a meds person but when I get sick I chop them up really fine (almost paste fine) and then put them in a bit of applesauce or something else to mask the taste. Normally if I do that once or twice a day I feel better in about a day or so. Hope that helps some. -
Junk food is going to go down easily. Since you find that you get full quickly and stay satisfied when you eat Protein and veggies, I would not recommend a fill. One thing you might want to do though, if you feel you need some help to regain control, is try the 5 Day Pouch Test at Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test Also, check out this thread: http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f178/starting-holiday-detox-early-anyone-wanna-join-me-84070/ You are definitely not alone in falling off the wagon on the holidays, but the Pouch Test has worked wonders for many of us!

Do you still enjoy wine (or alchohol in general) after sleeve?

You don't have to be in ketosis to lose weight. Not everyone is a puritan. -
I am removing the words "I can't" from my vocabulary...
maharet111 posted a topic in Fitness & Exercise
Last week was such a crappy week for me workout wise. I lost like 3 pounds but I had SH*TTY training sessions..like to the point I felt like I let my trainer down. He even asked me if I felt okay because I wasn't my usual self. So I am going to bounce back this week and remove the words "I can't" from my vocabulary! I am also needing to increase my calories, which is a bit of a scary thought for me..I am around 1,200 a day now at 6 months out. According to my TDEE which I adjusted for having less lean body mass I need to be somewhere around 1,500 calories a day to lose weight. Furthermore, I need more sleep. According to my UP band..I am only averaging like 6 hours of sleep a night. Anyway..that is my confession! -
Hello, I have not posted on awhile. I had my surgery on August 25, 2004, and I have only lost 28 pounds I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I had my first fill about a month after and then my second fill around the first of December. My first fill really did not have that much of an effect on me, but this second has. I still feel a lot of restriction, like I know its working, but I just can't seem to loose anymore weight. I know that I have lost inches, because my clothes are really baggy, but the scale is just not reflecting any weight loss. I have been exercising atleast 3 times a week, and I still have not lost. I was wondering if anybody could give me some meal suggestions. I have been eating baked chicken and streamed veggies for lunch and super or switching one of them out with some noodle soup. And for breakast I am eating oatmeal. So I am jsut confused, I feel like the band is not working. Its weird though, because I feel so much restriction, like I cannot eat very much, so you would think that the weight would just be falling off, but its not! I was just needing some suggestions for food, or working out that anyone could pass my way ~

My doctor had me start 2000mg a day in November along with Atenolol to help with my migraines and because my blood pressure was slightly high (I was 258 at that appt). In December i went back and i was put on blood pressure medicine and upped the fish oil to 3000mg a day. I went back in January and i weighed 268 and i had done nothing different than i had the past 6 months i maintained my weight!!. Now through all this i had been working out a few days a week and i dont eat bad (just horrible with portion sizes). Last week i weighed myself in at 275 and i started to cry. I looked up online thinking it was my medicine that i was on that i was gaining weight like crazy as it was the only new thing in my life. I stopped taking the fish oil about the same time as all the pills were binding me up (sorry TMI) and i weighed in this morning at 269....so maybe it WAS the fish oil pills as i am still taking the other medicines. Needless to say im not taking them anymore...and im going to bring this up to my doctor at my appt in a few weeks... I havent been banded yet but i dont see how a banded person can swallow these pills they are huge!! Have you been banded and if so do you have a problem with them?

Hi Everyone, I had my band on 3/15/10. I lost 7 lbs. the first week and 1.5 the second week, and gained 2 lbs back. I was so hungry by the end of week one I started soft foods by the second week. The second week i could drink 12 oz. and now I can drink 16 oz. Has anyone else had these issues, if so, what did you do to get back on track. My first fill is not until April 26th. I can't eat nearly what I could before surgery and seems like I should be at least losing a couple lbs. weekly. I am walking more, but not a lot. I'm trying to slowing build to longer distances. Any input would be appreciated. :bored:

Think all weight loss counts. Part of back pain may be rapid weight loss in first two weeks compounded by reduced exercising/stretching and low protein intake. Human body not geared for that speed in changes. Feel little better now that I am back with trainer

I remember the 3 week stall but is there also a big stall at the 6-7 month mark. I am 10-15 from goal and haven't lost anything in about 3 weeks. Just wondering if everyone stalls or am I leveling off? Hw was 232. Sw 218 and current weight 155. DOS 3/26/13.

Surgery in the morning

Pain is tolerable and temporary. I really didn't think it was too bad. The joy I get out of life now is priceless and well worth any pain I may have had. And no, you're not going to sleep way too much happening in that head! Good luck!!!! HW 312, pre-op (RNY) 255, current weight 198 -
B52 So glad to read this..... I too had soooo much additional weight that I couldn't even consider jogging. I started off on the bike seven months ago (bc I didn't have to carry my own weight). Eventually moved on to elliptical ...now I'm up to 60 minutes , 6.2-6.3 miles, 6 days/week . But I really want to start jogging...... You can't elliptical a 5K or a 10K...... And I want to experience these things. I think I'm going to have to try starting at our neighborhood walking/running/biking path because I LOOK LIKE A DUCK trying this on the treadmill. Anyway, that's my new fitness goal..... TO RUN!!!!

Depends on when you had surgery. I was easily eating 1200 calories at 6 months and last summer while training for 3 triathlons, I was eating 1700-2100 calories a day....without any problem!!! Now, if I was told to eat those calories in meat and vegatables I would be dying!!! But if I supplement with Protein bars and shakes, it's easy. You also need more carbs when you are woking out hard. Carbs are stored as glycogen in your muscle and glycogen is what's used to fuel your muscles. If you work out hard or for a long time and you don't get enough carbs, you can start to feel sluggish. I don't subscribe to the whole low carb thing. Our bodies were developed to run efficiently on a proper balance of carbs/protein/fat. Eating more calories doesn't make you gain weight if your body is using these nutrients efficiently.

How did you prepare yourself for surgery?
Aribay1 replied to 2NewBeginningsxoxo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm starting my liquid diet tomorrow and I bought jello protein protein protein flavor packs for water and simple liquid diet requirements.and what you can do now before surgery? I asked myself the same thing back in august. Right now enjoy eating out eating whatever you want but at the same time don't over do it or gain weight. Just enjoy your time with food. Lol. By the time you know it it'll be one week before surgery. Like me! -
Long time lurker, first time poster. I had the RNY done on the 10th walking in with a bmi of 35. I did it mainly to help with my Diabetes which was diagnosed when I was 34 years old (6 years ago). This was done under the advise of many doctors and a few years of research. So I am holding up alright. On a pureed diet until the 31st - then I go to soft meats. Lost some weight already - about 35 lbs. But the biggest thing that is getting to me is my blood sugars are not lowering - they are always in the 200s.. I have been taken off all my diabetes meds and they put me on a sliding scale. Anyone have any insight for me? Everyone has been telling me that the people who walk off the table diabetes free are the exception and that most people have to wait a bit until the smoke clears from the surgery. Anyone? Thoughts?

I'm 219.8 today!! YAY FOR ME  I'm so happy the weight is coming off. I stopped counting calories and protein grams, stopped stressing so much about losing. I know I'm eating way healthier than I was before banding. I've decided not to watch what I eat as long as I feel good and my hair is not falling out. I'm eating when I'm hungry and only until I'm satisfied. I do reach for the protein first and take my vitamins. When I'm stressed and want to eat, I get a sugarfree popsicle or sugarfree Jello, usually can't eat all the Jello cup, but enough to make my brain happy. YAY again :tongue:

Thanks for the replies... and the positive outlook! Funny thing... that person that keeps jumping on my back, and falling off??? That so and so gains a few pounds every single time!! Today is a good day, looking forward to band. Had my insurance required GI series Friday, and hope to hear from the doc's office very soon! I have no doubt this weight has affected me emotionally as well... lack of self-confidence, self-esteem, etc... Am I wrong in thinking those things will pick up as the scale goes down and I can see my feet again??? Thanks!!

Chewing the Fat About the Holidays
chicamam1 replied to stevegoad's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i plan on eating the turkey dinner, probably some turkey, potatoes, sweet potato pie etc but taking a very small portion. I dont plan on eating any sweets, but i dont feel a sliver of pie would hurt me either. for me its all about moderation. Just like ive doing awesome my dd had a bday part at a pizza joint yesterday.. i didnt have cake but i had two deep fried buffalo wings and two french fries and it didnt hurt me at all and weight still fell off the next day. My thing is learning to stop when im not hungry not when i feel full because the full thing is uncomfortable. I only eat about 3 oz at a time, but still i end up feeling fulllll.. i get full from drinking too tho. it doesnt last long tho but it staves off hunger lol -
Psycologist or Dietician?
BetsyB replied to bayareanan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think it's important to note that, during the immediate postop phase when eating is so, so restricted, it is very common to feel obsessed with foods you cannot eat. With time, advancing diet, and restriction, this usually fades. I think it's wise to consider what you will do if it persists. A good therapist can be worth his/her weight in gold. But don't rush to judgment; your response is pretty typical for someone who has been placed on a very restricted diet. -
Let's Talk Plastic's and Insurance/Medicare!
joyann1968 posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Ok, My Hubby's insurance company didn't cover my WLS because it is excluded from their plan and I am pretty sure plastics is to, but I have Medicare and they paid for my WLS and I have been going to my PCP for months every month to get her to document about my rashes and stuff. Do you think Medicare will pay for my plastics since they paid for my surgery? My boobs are sagging down to my belly button.... lol and one of my boobs has always been a lot smaller than the other one, if I get a breast lift, will they fix it so they both will be the same size? This is what concerns me about a breast lift. The difference in size is noticable. At what weight did you get plasctics done? Did you lose all your weight first? Well to cut a long story short today (almost 2 years post op) I was admitted to hospital due to abdominal pains (GP was worried it might be vsg complication?!?). It was a long, and inconclusive day, but because I don't have a follow up package with my surgeon today was the first time I have been weighed by a medic since my surgery, which was my silver lining. Last time a doctor weighed me I was deliberately wearing very little and had a BMI of 36, today I wasn't expecting to be weighed, so was wearing jeans, two jumpers and my sturdy shoes I could have kissed the dr when she announced my BMI was 23. I knew that's about what it was, but my official weight on my medical records is now not obese!

I am 5'1" and just had mine done. I have always had a hard time losing weight in general but being vertically challenged made it harder to me, more compact.

OK, it's been a minute since I updated on my progress/process. Not sure where I left off but I did get authorization from Aetna to see Dr. Pinnar for 1 visit. I felt like a mission was accomplished, so I decided to take on another mission. I went back online to see if I could find a Dr. closer to me and low and behold I did! Dr. Brian Long! And he was hosting a seminar that coming (last) Saturday! I went online and registered and I went to the seminar last Saturday! :cool2:! I was really comfortable with his team and his expertise, so I decided to move forward with my free consultation. I took the first available appointment, which was this past Thursday! I completed all my history online and when I arrived they were prepared and ready to see me. Well imagine my SURPRISE to find out that they had contacted my insurance prior to my arrival and had all documentation filled out and DR. LONG IS A PARTICIPATING SURGEON WITH AETNA!! Now, I am thoroughly surprised because Aetna told me there wasn't a bariatric surgeon in network which meant a higher payment for me and a BUNCH of headache in getting approved. Not taking my surprise for granted, I decided to surprise them and I had 3 years of documented, supervised, medical weight management records! (:waytogo:) amd they were soooooooooooooooooo happy that the "hard part" was done. Next they scheduled me for all of my pre-op testing (upper G.I., nutritionist, sleep study, psychologist, personal trainer, and lab work) all for the same day (June 5th) and she told me to have some dates in mind when I want to go to surgery when I come in on the fifth (:cursing:)!! I can't believe I went for a boulder blocking me to a sled taking me down the hill! GOD IS GOOD! I am nervous, but I am so excited to be taking control of my life and my destiny!!!! I will keep you all posted!
