  1. Hello everyone I was supposed to be sleeved on last monday the 18. It was cancelled so I have a NSV to NOT have indulged in any food because of my emotional train wreck I had when I learned I had to wait ... 5 more weeks! 5!!!! Anyways my only instruction is: eat healthy, avoid sugar / fat. So really I am at a loss. But I will be careful still I feel like I am let loose without clear instruction. I know how to eat well and whatever but still. I wish they can some example or whatever to help when they have such a situation.
  2. Are you just not dropping pounds? You should be looking at other things besides the scale. Take your measurements and see if you're losing inches. Are you able to do more than you could before? How is your energy level? Are you drinking enough Water? Our bodies will stop losing pounds while they adjust our measurements, or if we aren't drinking enough water. Muscle truly weighs more than fat, and, since you're exercising, you may be developing muscle. That's a great thing! Are your clothes looser? I walked out of my first size during a "stall". This last month has been so slow on loss, but I have literally watched my body adjust itself. I now have bicep and thigh muscles and I have the beginnings of a waist! I also lost three pants sizes last month! Don't let the scale rule your life. Use the other NSVs (non scale victories) to tell you if you are truly in a stall or if your body is just doing some internal housekeeping.
  3. Hello Friends. Just thought I'd share a NSV!! I set a personal goal to loose 10 pounds before my liquid diet. I lost 8. Since being on my pre op diet I've lost 8....here's the NSV.... I was asked today if I've already had surgery! Made me feel amazing and helped me to keep my eye on the prize! 7 days until surgery!!!!
  4. The Candidate

    Interesting, what people notice.

I'm not at the "tucking in" stage, but I can only imagine how great it must have been doing that for the first time after surgery. And now, having it commented on... Major NSV. Congrats!

    Minor NSV!!!!

I no longer have boob do (stomach sticking out more than the boobs do)! I had been so discouraged about the scale that I had not noticed that there were still changes. I know that is minor, but it has been a long time since I looked down and saw something other than boobs and belly. Where else could I come and be happy to announce something so embarrassing?!?!

    My First NSV-The Arboretum

Congratulations on your NSV. We had a little retreat to the Dallas Arboretum a couple of weeks ago to see the 12 days of Christmas exhibit. Until I read your post, I didn't realize how easy it was walking around for 2 hours without a break! Like you, I would've huffed and puffed and needed to stop several times before the weight loss. Now I could do that again.

    I Want it NOW!

I am in the very same place as you, WDW -- anxious to get rolling! The clinic coordintor at my surgeon's office also told me that best case scenario for me would be late summer, early fall. All I do is just keep plugging away at all of the prerequistes. I am a non smoker now (surgeon requires that his patients have not smoked for 3 months prior to surgery.) I smoked for about 15 years (excluding the 9 months I was pregnant with my youngest child who is now 13). I have tried to quit many times, this time I feel like it will be permanent! So, that is one non scale victory I am savoring while I move toward getting banded. I also have given up caffiene. One of my doctor's requirements, which was almost as hard as giving up the cigarettes. But, I have found that the insomnia that has plagued me since I was a teenager has greatly diminished. I don't toss and turn for an hour or more when I go to bed at night! Another NSV to savor! I've also gotten a jump on eating healthy, which has resulted in some weight loss. In short, what I am trying to do is focus on each step of the journey ....from the sounds of many of the posts I have read on this site....this is a life long journey and you have to pace yourself. Best of luck to you!

    Non Scale Victories

My surgery was 8/3/16 and my favorite NSVs have been: 1. moving my seat up in the car - yes!!! 2. People noticing the cute dresses I own instead of my lumps and bulges 3. Energy!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  13. Hey guys, I had gastric bypass surgery on June 20, 2016. Even though the road has not always been easy, I am so grateful to my surgeon and my family for being there for me when I decided to change my life. I lost 61 pounds so far and am 49 pounds away from my goal weight. However, I want to shine a light on some non scale victories that motivated me to keep going. I went from a size 1X-XL to a size L and am super close to being a size M. My skin is clearing up (I barely get acne and the dark spots are fading). I feel more confident, more healthy, more energetic, and most importantly, happier. What are your NSVs?

    NSV for last night

Last night I went to the Oakland A's game, which my family is big fans of and.... I fit in the seats! I just sat down! I didn't even think about it until about the 4th inning and I started to realize that I wasn't nervous about which seat I would be in and would it be wide enough for me. The stadium chair wasn't digging into my thighs and rear. I just fit! Even though we tailgated before hand and I had more fritos than I have had in 6 months, I still fit . Oh, and today is my 6 month bandaversary. Down 65 lbs. Life is good. Love my band and my new life . Have a great day everyone!

    Non scale victory

Hey Hey Hey I've got an NSV! Getting ready yesterday to go to Columbus for my bi-weekly Stoma Stretching at OSU, Dr Noria says We Are Making Gains! think she is optimistic, but let's SEE IF SHE IS CORRECT! Anyhoo I had put my bra in to be washed so dug in my indie drawer for a fresh one, A 42B and it FIT! For so long I have bought what I could find, added bra extenders so the band would be large enough. First stock size in years! + What I have said before, I AM NOT,a woman or Miss size, I am a terribly bloated Junior, a 27 or 29, for a woman in the 270s a B cup,is NOT LARGE! This is Why i should aim for a 15! But power to this rapidly defating Plump Princess!

    Exercise, Exercise, Excercise...

Ok. I say this every time I fall off the exercise wagon - but seriously - why do I fight it? After arguing with myself and spending all of March in a couch-potato stupor, I finally dragged my butt to the gym last night. Aside from a few minutes of lung burn - to be expected after well over 30 days with no body movement - I was just fine. By the time I was done with 20 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes on the bike, I had a great sense of accomplishment and I felt physically good, too. To top it off, I get to watch TV that I secretly enjoy - like American Idol or Are You As Smart as a Fifth Grader... Stuff I never watch at home. So, why the heck to I fight going? It seems like I have to force myself. I only succeeded in getting myself to go last night because I did yard work on Sunday - and my thighs were STILL SORE from bending over on Wednesday. That's just sad.... so I figured I would try to offset the back-of-thigh sore/tightness with top-of-thigh work. I ran that bike at level 10... until my knee started screaming and then I backed down to level 7. The point is, that 1) I don't mind doing the exercise while I am doing it. 2) I get a great feeling of having done a good thing for myself and my health. 3) I don't feel badly after am done... So WHY, by all that is holy, do I resist this wonderful miraculous activity from which so many good things come? This is a mystery that I am going to have to continue to ponder. Maybe while I am on the elliptical machine tonight... :clap2: I mean, the scale is still creeping downward. Today, my scale said 282 - if you add the 4 pounds to adjust to an approximation of my doc's scale - that puts me at 286. Eating less is wonderful - but exercise makes all the difference. I really want to WOW my doc when I see him again at the beginning of May...Plus, every pound I lose is pretty much a pound gone forever. So every pound I lose is one less I have to lose tomorrow.... May as well get as many of them out of the way as quickly as possible. Exercise is the way. On other life fronts - Sick DH is fully recovered and fully functioning again. He was even planning to foray out of the house to get groceries. Thank goodness! I was getting pretty tired of having to do all the home stuff in addition to working. The fridge parts have arrived and we have scheduled the visit for the repairman to put them in. Now all we have to do is empty & defrost the freezer - or go buy a back-up freezer. We have been talking about that for a while, anyway. I took a dry-run at the skills test for teachers. Reading - 90%. Writing - 95%. Math..... 64.5% *BUZZZZZZZ* Guess it's back to the Algebra books... I guess you just forget some stuff in 22 yrs. NSV de jour: I wore a shirt that my sister gave me yesterday. It was a 4x with no stretch, no a-line, no nothing. Now - size 4x doesn't sound like much of an NSV - but when you consider the size variations and the fact that prior to banding I was wearing the largest possible 5x made with stretchy knit - and they were getting a little clingy... a small 4x made of cotton - that is an accomplishment. I think I am going to have to go home and take my measurements....

    Resistance is futile...

This is not really a food NSV, but it's kinda connected. I had to quit smoking (of course!) as part of the pre-op. It's been a little over 5 weeks & other than one slip 4 days in, I've done really well. One of my biggest smoking triggers is being in the car, and I commute almost an hour & a half one way to school. For the past few weeks, my solution for taking my mind off smoking in the car is either to talk out loud to myself (like an idiot) or sing old 80's rock anthems out loud & play air guitar (like a bigger idiot). Yesterday & today, I realized that I was pretty much fine with the drive & didn't even really think about smoking...so I could go back to driving like a normal person.

    A bit of an update

Another great blog! Almost got a bit teary there when you reminded me of all the great NSVs I have coming up and already have some of them. I can actually cross my legs again. It's not comfy I find myself doing it. Can't wait until it feels boring and routine for me too. I just might get good restriction from the next fill. At least I have a small amount now. Can't wait to hear what your hubby has to say. Pop in every once in a while and say hello. We miss ya.

    A bit of an update

That episode was great Becca. You have done remarkably well in such a small amount of time - I am so jealous of you. You look fantastic. I think it is important to reflect on our NSV's as a motivator. I can think of a few so I think I may start writing them down. They do 'lift me up' when I am blue so maybe I will put them on the fridge! I don't go in there too often for myself anymore... You have lifted my spirits today. Thanks
