I am only 6 days past surgery and I've only lost 5 lbs. Maybe this is normal, but I expected it to be more I guess. What has your weight loss journey been week? Especially the first month? Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app

November Surgery Buddies!!!
ForMyOhana replied to Tristenhilpert97's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I agree on the volume going up a bit, but knowing when to stop is key. I hit 284 with my weigh in yesterday... that's -119 overall. Very happy. My arrhythmia is down to once per month which is amazing. And I'm finding that I can be much more active. I competed with my coworkers during May to count steps. I was able to log and average 0ver 10,000 steps per day over the entire month. I took a break last week, but I'm ready to get back to some walking this week. See you next in the 270's 😁👍 -
I'm a newbie so maybe I am obsessing about nothing but I am about 2 weeks post-op and losing weight as expected. I'm not worried about the scale too much but I am so tired of the big middle I had and the thing is - it's still there!! The inches seem to be dropping everywhere EXCEPT my stomach. WTH? Is this normal? is the weight around your middle the last to go? This is depressing.

To count or not to count (calories)
vikingbeast replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I track, but every now and then I'll have a "holiday" from tracking. I usually end up gaining 2-3 lbs. over a week or two, and as soon as I start tracking again, it goes back down. (I'm just finishing one of these "holidays".) -
To count or not to count (calories)
STLoser replied to lizonaplane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Here's what I do. I hate tracking but I've been doing it consistently now for 2 years and that's a big deal for me. I still don't like it but it helps me see I'm making good choices and getting enough protein. At the same time, I DO eat when I'm hungry and I'm not extremely strict about calories. If I'm hungrier one day I eat more that day and I always ask myself if it's head hunger or actual hunger. The other thing I do is take a day off every week or so where I don't track, but I still listen to my hunger signals and make healthy choices. It just gives me a break from tracking. This has worked well for me for 2 years now and I haven't had any real gains and have consistently lost and am still losing, albeit very slowly now. Caffeine After Surgery
Stefan15 replied to Sunshine Princess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My Dr. said I could go back to my coffee/caffeine habit at about 2-4 weeks post op. Once I was getting all my protein and normal fluids. -
Recreational drugs post surgery be honest -.-

I tried to smoke a joint in the first week post to deal with surgery pain cuz I didn’t want to take my pain meds. The resulting coughing fit (and stomach pain from the coughing) put an end to that real quick! About a year later i tried again and was fine. Im back to my normal rate of usage (like once every couple months) with no issue. Bonus points: I don’t get the uncontrollable munchies anymore! If i do feel munchy, its easy to ignore 💪🏼 P.S. No, i dont have a medical marijuana card, and Yes, its legal up here now, lol. P.S.S. I also drink/drank regularly (pre and post op), but only started drinking regularly again after weight loss phase. During weight loss phase I probably had about 5 partial drinks in total the entire time. P.P.S. I also smoke (cigarettes), which i am half-heartedly trying to stop. Sigh. -

Wow that’s high!! Per pound or for two cutlets? Prices here for everything have gone up. I spend almost a $100 more at the grocery store now than I did 6 mos ago. Use to spend like $200 a week and now it’s easily $300 and over. -

Meat is crazy priced here too. $79.99 for lamb at my butcher. They do get in very high quality, very flavoursome, organic meats which is what you’re paying for. I usually justify it because two cutlets is an ample meal for me. I think I might buy some fillet steak (my favourite cut too) next week too now after seeing @ms.sss’s dinner. Mmmm -
Will US insurance coverage Mexico surgery?
SmartySassyNoPants posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hello, I'm trying to find out if insurance will reimburse for Mexico surgeries, as out of network? my insurance covers the surgery in the US. I am trying to avoid the 6mo wait and pre-op testing and screening as I've already gone through it. I went up to my pre-op appt the week before surgery and had to cancel because I got sick. I had to recover, lost weight on my own and here I am 80lbs heavier just wanting to get through it but they are making me start from day 1. thanks! -

Hi friends, I was in this group, then I left it. I had my initial appointments scheduled with my surgeon, the dietician and my psych eval, had cleared things with insurance, then got really cold feet and decided I wasn’t going through with it. Well this past week I had another new weight related health diagnosis that shouldn’t be something a 31 year old should be diagnosed with, my weight is still climbing, got told by two different doctors they won’t treat my pain because it’s my weight causing the pain, so I’ve emailed my coordinator at Dr. Houston’s office and plan on calling Monday to get appointments back on the schedule. I guess I just need some reassurance that it’s ok to go back and forth with commitment in the beginning?

May 16th surgery. 3 weeks post op. Yesterday where the biggest incision is the adhesive they put over the area is coming off and it’s bleeding a bit. I called the doctor and they say it’s normal. But it’s creepy to me. I covered it with gauze sponge like advised and put my binder back on. I haven’t checked it today yet.

Great job. That's incredible. You averaged 7.5 lbs. a week. Even 7.5 lbs. in a month is great to me. Continued success! -

So i’ve been bugging Mr to grill me up a steak all week cuz i was terribly missing some good quality, well cooked MEAT since vacay (where the food was borderline terrible!) Tonight, Mr. came through and prepared THREE of these babies!! Its hard to tell in the pic, but this Porterhouse is GIGANTIC. It was almost 2 inches thick raw, and weighed 2.35 lbs cooked. 😳. Did i mention he made THREE of these?!?! Overkill is an understatement cuz I ate like 1 measly oz of it. Along with some roasted asparagus and portobello mushrooms. Cleaned my bowl: 345 calories, which included an espresso martini i drank beforehand (not shown). Totally hit the spot! Mr is gonna be rewarded for his efforts later (once my food is digested 😂😂😂😂) -
Blah...my first stall...
Sunshine Princess replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just hit my third week stall and I’m kinda meh about it. Thanks to this thread, i am taking the zen approach that it will happen (stalls) and i just need to channel my energy into something else (walking, getting outside to work on my garden, playing with my dog) instead of obsessing. I used to obsess all the time when i did weight watchers and the stupid scale wouldn’t move. I’m just grateful i was able to have the surgery and take a new approach to life. Plus the warmth and sunshine has come to Connecticut and I’m enjoying it! -
Caffeine After Surgery

So, coffee is my weakness. They told me to cut it out during my pre op which was a week and I did. I am 4 days post op today and I had my first cup. Just make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids. They told me the reason they tell you to cut out caffeine is because it's a diuretic causing you to urinate more and you need to keep all your fluids Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
Queen ApisM replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
A couple of NSVs that have me happy in the past few weeks. First, I haven't taken metformin since surgery, and my A1C is 5.3. Woo hoo! I'd been concerned but seeing that number made me really happy. Secondly, I had my cardiologist check in today, and my echocardiogram is looking a little better! We'll see where we are in a year, but he is really happy with my progress. We may even need to drop my blood pressure medication again. The third one happened today at the pool. I managed to get out of the pool using one of the ladders instead of the steps. That was an exciting and unexpected win! -
I’m juuuuust about 3 weeks out and as a die hard New Englander, i drink iced coffee year round. I haven’t had any caffeine in over a month. I cut it out during the pre op diet. When did everyone start adding coffee back in? I’m a milk only person with my iced coffee so no, I’m not missing the sugar, just my delicious iced coffee on warm sunny days.
