I think it's just really hard in the beginning to get in requirements for protein and fluids..I'm 3 wks out and it's just starting to get easier now..i literally bring a drink and snack wherever I go..I've been doing the drinkable yogurt because it goes down easy has protein and travels pretty well! I feel like I've brought home a newborn baby and I have to take care of it 24/7! Takes time to get used to this new lifestyle! !! -

livvsmum replied to janie2024's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all! Checking in. I love reading everyone's updates ! I'm 10 weeks post op & down 55 pounds. Couldn't be happier. I am struggling to find low-cal creative ways to get my Protein in, beyond chicken, fish, & Greek yogurt. Lol. Happy thanksgiving all!! -
Hey al May 14th and15th sleevers, How is every one doing? I lost 16 lbs in my first two weeks and haven't budged in the last week. Started on puréed" foods and have had a few issues with keeping it down. Mostly because I think oh I'm almost full, just one more bite...well that bite always puts me over the edge. Guess the tool that I asked for is working. I need to get the signal understood in my head down pat so that I don't do this anymore. So far so good yesterday and today. Is everyone getting their Protein in? I finally got my isopure no carb liquid drinks in and between those or my greek yogurt and real good I am managing pretty good. Plus I am drinking 60-70 oz of Water every day. Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

I agree with what you have stated. it has nothing to do with what GummyTummy is or isnt doing or craving. it isnt about craving. It is about making a LIFE SYLE change and keeping it after the honemoon phase. If you choose to ignore the changes during this and not learn how to change the idea of food in your head, like anything else, one=ce the honeymoon phase is over, the pounds ill come back on. IT WILL HAPPEN. I have seen it in many folks that i have mentored in the last 2 years. Pizza, yeah, I dont deny myself, but I either eat the topings or make my own with caulifour crust. Still only a peice or two depending on size. Chipotle...I never liked it bfore, so i dont eat it now. But for other thins like dorito's.. I do have about 11 chips a week...all in one sitting. then done till next week. I allow myself some of my favorites and I account for them in what else I eat that day. I have almost all cut out out the rice, the potatoes, the bread...cookies, cakes, all the good stuff and exchanged them with other healthy options - or - i have found ways to incorporate my old favs by making them more suited to my new lifestyle. Sugar free cake with added protein powder, Rice noodles to make noodle salads and the dressing mied half greek yogurt, half mayo and a scoop of protein powder... my family cannot taste the difference AND i get what i need. As far as WHEN we can eat these nummyliscous food again, it is 1) based on individual doctors plan and 2) when the individual body is going to handle different foods. For me, burger was a nogo until almost a year out. but chocolate...oh baby, I could do it at 3 months. Chips--with in a month. per my body of course. The docs plan said never. lol I agree with your statements. She (GummyTummy) isnt being helpful. -
I think I over did it yesterday. I haven't been able to drink as much today. But I did have a quarter cup of yogurt that sat very well. But when I take a deep breath I get this dull pain that wasn't there before.

Frozen Yogurt Six days out?
kimikat3 replied to kimikat3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! Thanks for the attack! Actual I was being serious. And yes, I did pay for my surgery (not that that should be a factor in any case. This surgery is the same regardless). Perhaps I should have been more specific in starting sugar free frozen yogurt OR sorbet. I am not at the point where I can have Greek yogurt yet, otherwise I would help myself to some of that. I realize that frozen yogurt doesn't have "nutritional value" but at this point in the game, I'm not getting much nutritional values from anything that I'm taking in (besides my protein shake). -

I am on day 8 of the diet..surgery Wednesday! Best of luck! If I can do it I know you will!!!! Will be thinking of you!!!! Mari -
What is it about yogurt that has you focusing on that for meals? Is it always matcha flavored? Or do you vary the flavorings and toppings?

Ironically, last week after like four bites of frozen yogurt my mom freaked out on me about gaining my weight back and how I needed to reign things back in. She was so over the top aggressive, it made me realize that I was not the only one who had an unhealthy relationship with weight. It brought me right back to my childhood. I quickly placed firm boundaries around this issue, which she is not doing well with ... but a healthy relationship with food is about me not her. And I will continue on this journey strong ... creating my new life, including healthy relationships with both food and people. Good luck to us all!

Left shoulder pain 2 yrs later
Tamie2169 replied to bandaide's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Im only one and a half week out of surgery. I have already had 2 horribly, painful days where the left shoulder and neck pain was so bad that my doctor suggested going to the ER. Went to the ER and they ran all kinds of tests. Said everything was normal and nothing wrong with me. When I saw the doctor the very next day he did state that the pain usually does happen from either too much gas in the stomach causing squeezing and issues where the band gets moved around a lot, or eating too much which can cause the band to be placed in stress rubbing again or hitting that nere that is extremely close to where the bad is located. The doctor checked my port and made sure that there was absolutely NO air or saline in my band. In less than 2 days after seeing the doctor I've had severe pain again today. I was at work, again when it happened. I had only had a yogurt for breakfast, half a banana about 3 hours later, and then oatmeal about 2 hours after that. I had NOT had anything to drink and the pain started an HOUR after I had eaten the oatmeal. I have been in pain all afternoon and was AFRAID to eat or drink anything. Finally I did have about a 1/2 cup of vegetable soup (pureed) and a tiny swallow of water. I am terrified of that PAIN and do NOT want it to show its ugly head again. The doctor did tell me that it should not last more than 30-45 minutes at a time (try 6 hours today!), and that it should only happen in the early stages of recovery. It should NOT be a common occurance and to let him know what was happening. I have my post-op appointment with my doctor scheduled this coming wednesday and I am going to be very proactive about this issue. For now I know that I am not eating enough, getting enough protein (maybe 30 grams a day if that) and am very concerned that if I eat or drink hardly anything at all the pain starts back up. I have no idea on what to do about this issue! Any ideas out there fellow bandsters? -
Congrats on surgery! I think at 5 days post op I wasn't getting all my Protein either. At this point don't really worry about 3 "meals" a day. Just work on getting high protein liquids down all day. Everyone's post op diet is different, but I know at 5 days I was on full liquids that included puddings & yogurts. Don't force yourself to eat just try to sneak in small amounts when you can. Good luck!

Starting over, 5 years after surgery
HilaryInRC replied to TheCurvyMermaid's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks Amy and Suzanne for the words of encouragement. I think I've just had so many jerk boyfriends that are always trying to force me to lose weight, I have a hard time believing that someone can like me just the way I am physically (even though we've been seeing eachother for 2 years!). But, I do want to be hot and sexy for him even so! But, here is a little mini victory. I wore my fitbit yesterday and walked 11,000 steps (equals a little over 5 miles). I took a walk in the morning and, when I saw I was still off by a few thousand steps of my goal (goal is 10k steps), went out for a second walk last night. I think that will be the plan for right now, curb my calories and take a morning and evening walk. Yesterday I ate 1500 calories. I am trying to get down to 1200 a day. This morning I got on the scale and saw I had lost a few pounds. I'm not sure how that is possible, maybe losing Water weight or something. But, it was good to see it anyway. And, I have gotten up at 7:00 am for two days in a row. I'm hoping I can keep getting up at the same time from here on out. Maybe my CPAP struggles are almost over? When I go in to get a fill, I will only have liquids, Soup, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese or yogurt up to a few hours pre-fill. Then, I drink water only in the hour or two until I get the fill. Question: How long after a fill do you stay on liquids and soft and mushies? My band doc said liquids for the rest of the day and soft and mushies for the day after, then back to normal. But, I have noticed on youtube on the Banded Wendy videos that her doctor keeps her on liquids and soft and mushies for two weeks post fill. As for weighing on the scale. I am kind of obsessive about it! I weigh in first thing in the morning in the nude before I have had food/after going to the bathroom. I usually weigh in at the end of the day too in my pjs, at which point I'm usually 2 lbs heavier. If I don't pay close attention to the scale I gain. In fact, the idea of not weighing myself for a week makes me feel nervous! It will be nice to feel free of the scale one day. -
How Much Are You Eating At One Year After Surgery?
FishingNurse replied to KaitlynnHughes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
well- I am nearly a year out-- 10 months basically..... my day is as follows!!! breakfast: iced vanilla latte (not sugar free and made with 2% milk) 1 cheese stick, and a 6oz yogurt. snack: carrots and dip (not low fat) lunch:about 1/5th of a burrito bowl (3/4-1 cup total) with steak, rice, salsa, Beans, cheese and sour cream from chipotle. a few chips snack: 15 slices of turkey pepperoni Dinner: grilled chicken breast or fish (3oz)and a veggie. Snack: small chunk of cookie dough. :-) -
Okay, I'm just catching up on all the new posts, lol. I have always been a snacker, my plan has been three meals and three snacks all along, and I doubt that will ever change. It's the only way I can get in all my calories for the day. I do have mostly high-protein snacks (Quest bars are my current passion, but I also eat cheese, yogurt or boiled eggs for snacks) and carbs are not really a major temptation issue for me. That said, I don't really have too many bad snacky items in my house, aside from a few things my husband likes, so I can't be that bad even when I want to LOL. Work doesn't have very good snacky food either, so not much temptation there. I feel very lucky in that!! The one thing I've noticed is that I eat more chocolate now than I did pre-op -- not more at one go or anything, but I have never been a chocolate fan really, and now I have to have my dark chocolate a few times a week. So I do have that as a naughty snack every day or so.

Gonna Get To Goal. Wanna Join Me?

Hey y'all: Sorry I've been MIA for a few--it's been a hectic time at work (it's the centennial of the founding of our university, so lots of extra programs, concerts, etc.). Down to 187 without really trying--so very strange--I honestly think it's the focus on veggies and fruit that's doing it. I don't eat a lot of cheese any more, either, so that might be helping (?). Most Protein now comes from vegetable sources (nuts, beans) and some dairy (milk, yogurt), but I eat a lot more vegetables and fruit than I have in a long time. I'm actually really looking forward to summer's bounty at the farmers' markets that I frequent. Wednesday is my 1-year sleeve-aversary. I'm going to try my hardest to get 1 more pound off between now and then to Celebrate that date with 120 pounds GONE. 120 flipping pounds--off my body. I am SO INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL for this sleeve!!!!! -

February Bandsters?
Fit in my 60's replied to mrsmyers2010's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Heather, I am 4 days banded and doing fine. There is some pain, shoulders as reported by others, and sore belly making it hard to get up and out of chairs and bed, but other than that doing fine. I went shopping a few days before my surgery so that I would have a variety of things on hand. I bought the Low Carb Slim Fast and they are fine. Also bought some EAS protein powder. Also bought some soups to blend. I checked out the protein content and discovered that pea, lentil, and bean are higher than most soups. Someone suggested Progresso Tuscany Chicken; I had that yesterday and not too bad. Some of the other things I got are sugar-free jello and popsicles, Lite V8 Splash, variety of tea flavors, black beans and tomatoes ( I heard it's good when you blend them together for a soup; haven't tried it yet though). Also bought some Greek vanilla yogurt to add to the protein smoothies to kick the protein up a notch. Yesterday I made a banana protein smoothie but you have to be careful these first two weeks of the chunks left in it. Blend it really really well. Today I made one with blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries, but it had way too much pulp and seeds left in it so I had to strain it really well. Probably won't make that one again. Tasted good though. Don't forget the chapstick because you really will need it. Walk around as much as you can afterwards, and use your spirometer to keep your lungs clear. Didn't do that 2 yrs. ago and ended up in the emergency room. Good luck......you will do fine. -

Diva and Bella, Thank you for the warm welcome! I am really hoping that WW and the band can finally do the trick, so far so good...we'll see how the weekend goes since that is the hardest time for me. I was born and raised in a 3rd world country and have a mentality that I must finish everything on the plate (including my kiddo's leftovers) so when I eat out I end up finishing the humongus portions they give you!! At home I try to serve myself only tiny portions and throw away my kids' leftovers as soon as they are done. Maybe I'll eat in during the weekends too! Yesterday: b-coffee w/milk WW2/60cal l- smart one WW5/ 250 cal s- WW yogurt WW1/ 100 cal Salsa Sunchips WW4 / 210 cal d- turkey/ff cheese sandwich WW3 / 150 cal Progresso 0 point soup WW0 / 120 cal yogurt/blueberries/honey bunches of oats (1 cup) WW4 / 200 cal WW 19 1095 cal -
Pudding and yogurt are one my full liquid list from my doctor.

Clears will be gone before you know it. Then it's onward to yogurt, drinkable yogurt, delicious Protein drinks, Soups. Egg drop soup was my favorite.
