An NSV worthy of a post.

Irene, that's soooo exciting. I live on the 4th floor of an old Victorian building with no elevator. Every day it takes me FOREVER to get up the stairs as I trudge, trudge, trudge up them (and God forbid I should be carrying groceries)! It's so exciting to think I might someday be able to fly up them!!! That is one of the best NSVs, I think!!!

    In the swim

Just thought I would share this little bit of excitment! I have set myself little mini goals along my weight loss journey, things that will keep me motivated... and swimming is on the list. I am now under 14 stone (194) so my next little goal was to go swimming. Just over two years ago I started taking the kids swimming with my husband; I even bought a new swimming costume ( unfortunately itwas too small for me!!!! but I kept it anyway) ... I went a several times and each time I would start to get little panic attacks! I would get sweats, palpitations, and need the toilet!!! I thought that this reaction completely outweighed the benefit of the exercise and I stopped going. So, yesterday, my son asked when we were going to go swimming again. I tried the swimming costume on and it was a perfect fit... and ok, there is still plenty of weight to come off, but I have to say, it didn't look as bad as I expected! To cut a long story short... I put the costume on and kept it on and took the kids swimming. It was amazing to be back in the pool with them and my husband! We had a lovely time and I managed to get some really good exercise out of it too! These little NSV are sooooo important to me!

That is a NSV worthy of a post. You ROCK those stairs!!!!
  8. Today I was able to RUN up a flight of stairs. Then, I was able to trot down them rather quick too. Interesting huh? Ok, maybe not all THAT interesting - but if you would have seen me try to climb one flight of stairs 2 months ago, you would feel me on this... lol I have completely damaged both of my knees being severely and morbidly obese for 20 years. That is all.

I walked a total of 70 minutes yesterday, and I got a diploma from about.com for having completed my 10 week walking program! I feel kinda proud....also nsv I started out in xxl sweats and now am in xl stretch pants, the next pair will be large, and that will be pretty soon, because the ones I wear are loosening up after two wears! Hugs, Lori!! FAMILY.. our biggest challenge! YEP!! Sounds like what I had to do last colonoscopy... several pills every 15 mins. with water. It worked fine. OH... I bet that was quite a letter!!! LOL. Something similar to the phone call I made this week, to the people handling our motor vehicle accident from this past summer. They have been bugging me to return this medical information release form they sent me. It took me a couple of months to tackle ti because the first question was to list ALL the doctors I've seen in the last 10 years. GIVE ME A BREAK.... we lived some of that time in OK, then moved to WA and spend winters in CA. I had urologist, gyn drs., ortho in WA & OK, primary care, cardio, S#####!! So every time I looked at that form... that's what I saw... every doctor you saw in the last 10 years. So... it took me a while. And I spent HOURS on it... making sure I had up to date contact info for each dr. And indicating each one's specialty so they could see which ones were relevant. So.. a couple of days ago I had this really RUDE message on my answering machine/voice mail.... saying NO WAY were they going to order medical info for 20 doctors!! Implied that I was trying to pull a "fast one" on them, and the accident was not that significant, and she was VERY CONCERNED!! So... I called and gave her a BIG piece of my mind on Monday!! GRRRRRR!! HAHAHA!! GREAT NSV, Chris!!! Congrats! You're doing so well! GREAT post, Linda!! Very encouraging. Think I need to do the 5 day again!! Not having a good week! Weight up again for 2nd week. Very depressed. Things not going so well. Went back to gyn Dr today to discuss med changes she made 2 weeks ago and impact they've had on me. Made a few subtle changes. And will double my anti depressant. Have to go back in a month and see if things have improved... or have the option of calling her if the depression continues to be a problem and she will give me Pristique samples. Miserable w/aches and pains, too. Neck, shoulder, back!! UGH!! Appt w/pain clinic and probable epidural injection on Dec. 1st. Next two weeks will be GREAT... hope you have a wonderful vacation!

Apples – Glad your troubles are almost over. Good for you! Laura – No need to apologize for spending time with your family and work. Sounds to me like you are thinking about full time??? Janet – Your quiet Thanksgiving Day sounds like heaven to me. There are times I wonder how it would be to have a holiday to myself. I don’t know if I would like it or not but I sure wouldn’t mind trying it out. Julie – I hope your trigger point helps the pain. Let us know how it goes with DSIL. TX – Awesome NSV!! That is the best. Linda – I agree with everyone else. Take care of yourself and your family. Make your visits with your grandmother when they work for you and her. The others aren’t important unless you let them be. Cheri and others who posted about giving up some computer time. I too have cut way back on computer time. It is so easy to get involved in things and the time goes by so quickly. Unfortunately, there is a price to pay for that involvement such as our family time or work. Don’t get me wrong, I still have my computer time and enjoy it but I have trimmed it back. I have totally given up FB games. I still like to read here and keep up with news reports.

  14. I bought a jacket in 2005 from the Big/Tall store. Size 3X. Never could wear it buttoned but it was on sale then for like $40. Broke it out this season planning to wear it open as usual. IT BUTTONS AND STILL HAS ROOM TO SPARE! Granted it is a 3X but now it is a little big. First time I have seen a real change in my clothing. Then I decided on some things I would like to work on. If I can work with my weight there are other things I want to tackle: 1) Eliminate ALL soda consumption - It costs too much and can hurt the band in the long run. 2) Whiten my teeth - Stopping soda and making better food choices can help this. It's like an extra benefit to my better lifestyle. It doesn't make much sense to be smaller and more appealing and smile in the picture with yellowish teeth. 3) Exercise more - I have been really bad lately because of my schedule. I feel like I can run a marathon I just haven't been able to make it to the gym. I am very excited about spending Saturday walking around Chicago. 4) Better skin - Water keeps skin hydrated so its another plus of drinking more water again. And I plan on sporting sleeveless shirts and my tattoss on vacation in a few months. So some small muscles and tan skin would be great. I have always covered up 100% because I hated what was under. So the motto from now on is "lose weight and look great."

    NSV!!!

Hey, Is it me, or do others find it weird to have donut marketing at the top of this page??? Anyway, I got my labs back today...and I am about 13 weeks post op and down 86 lbs (pre and post op total) since April. My cholesterol is drumroll....wait for it....wait for it....175!!! OMG! I haven't been that low in 20 years! That's NORMAL!!! NORMAL...can't believe I'd ever call anything about me normal. I have also gone from a size 32 to a 24/26 (depending on the brand) although some things are 22's. I am soooo happy. My short term goal is to be down 100 by Christmas. Not sure if I can pull it off as the weight loss has sllllloooowwwwed a bit. But I'm gonna give it my best shot. HEE HEE HEE... I am soooo happy G
  18. I am glad that I found this site because it has really helped me! I was in a slump this summer and lacked motivation to workout and eat healthier foods. When I got on here I was inspired by so many different people! I love the NSV and the SV! It's awesome that a site like this can help so many people. It's to bad some people use it to be negative. I must say that I am tired of all the articles comparing food to drugs. It seems as though they are trying to come up with excuses to why so many people are obese. I know that they are also trying to come up with treatments. Not all fat people are addicted to food just like all of us don't have thyroid problems. People take things like this and run with it. For so many years obese people used the excuse of the thyroid but in all actually how many times a week did they exercise or choose to eat healthy? I was on thyroid medications in high school and I lost a few pounds but I must admit I didn't eat right or exercise at all. I love to shop but everytime I see a Wal-Mart commercial I don't jump in my car and go to Wal-Mart. I hope people just realize that it's all about personal choices and taking responsibility.
  19. I checked my drivers license weight and I am now only 4 lbs heavier than what it says! I think this kind of qualifies as a "non-scale victory". How does everyone else stack up to their drivers license?
  20. I am 62 years young. I have lost 100 lbs since lapband pre-diet and surgery on 10/30/09. Mostly I have been walking and doing weights exercise at the gym. I noticed my arms tightening up and my husband commented last week about my thighs. And, I had a NSV today, a lady that did not know me before my 100 loss, but was aware of the loss, told me that I had great looking legs and had I lost a lot there. You can tighten flabby skin, but it doesn't happen overnight! Karen(kll724). (by the way, no plastic surgery for this girl)!!
  21. For every 10 pounds lost, I buy a charm/bead for my Pandora bracelet. Each charm somehow represents a part of my journey. (I have a dog because my dog, Truman, is my personal trainer; I have a gym shoe; etc. I'm about to buy one that represents the story The Princess and the Pea because now that I'm thinner, I feel every lump and bump in clothing and in bed! LOL) In addition to buying charms when I hit 10 pounds down, I have commemorated certain milestones with a charm, as well--getting under 200 pounds, losing 50 pounds, losing 75 pounds. By the time I reach goal, the bracelet will be full. Otherwise, my rewards have been new jeans that fit every now and then. And all kinds of NSVs. When I hit goal, I hope to have plastic surgery to rearrange all these body parts that are so much smaller and further south.

Well all I decided not to do my second walk today, I am pretty sore. So gonna give these muscles the afternoon off! I'll be back at it tomorrow:wink:! Tonight is taco night:biggrin: I used to eat 3 or 4 before, but now I am down to 1 and a half:rolleyes2:. I'll be glad when I'm down to 1. The weather here is absolutely beautiful in the high 60's and not a cloud in the sky, and I can see all the mountians sooo clearly. Oh almost forgot I had a nsv today as I was sitting on the couch I crossed my legs (wow) that is the first time I have been able to do that in a while:thumbup:. I guess that is all for today, hope everyone has a warm comfey evening. ~Kelly~ P.S. Is there a way to upload a picture to this or do I have to put it on my signature?

    Mini-victory Today

Congratulations! While the scale victories are nice...these NSV moments are even better! .

Gaining and losing the same 2 pounds

LOL!! I don't think you're whining at all. It stinks when the scale won't move for us. Maybe don't weigh for a few weeks, but do go find some NSV's that will make you feel a bit better. Perhaps measuring if you did that pre-op, or trying on clothes that you wore before being sleeved. Even noticing how differently you feel while sitting in your car helps. I have noticed I've had to move the seat up in mine recently. What a great feeling!!! :-) It's the littlest things, I'm telling you!
