At what point what week will the stitches fall off? I'm out of surgery 13 days today.

I would ask your doctor. Have you had follow-up visits? I went one week pot-op and go again at 2 weeks. I plan to ask my doctor when I go on Tuesday. Some stitches dissolve, others have to be pulled out.

I'm one week out today! I've been doing VERY well until last night I just had a rough night. Woke up and my stomach is cramping. I think I messed up when I took a few sips of a spicy Soup my daughter made. Paid for it last night and still paying for it. LOL My family keeps asking me if I've exercised yet. So I'm asking, when should I start to exercise? I've been walking a little around the yard but like when should I get on my treadmill? After yesterday I don't want to mess up again so I'm reaching out to the EXPERTS HERE!!!

I have just had to have surgery to fix a leak in the tubing about a inch from the port, so basically it was trimmed and re fixed. The doctor doing the fixing said that it was caused during a fill. Now I always pay extra to have my fill done under x-ray. And the fill provider as still managed to stick the needle in the tubing. Its has cost me 5 weeks of very bad pain, apparently this is caused by the leak, 1 week in hospital - we thought it was my gallbladder. And $1600 to repaire through surgery, I had this done under local anticeptic, which I found very traumatic, I know a lot of people say its a walk in the park, but I found it extremely difficult. Would you file a claim against the fill provider to get your cost back?

Throwing Clothes Out
VSG AJH replied to iagree2shine's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm seven weeks out, and within the first month, I had to pick up some smaller clothes from the thrift store (don't want to invest a lot in transitional sizes). At about 5 weeks post-op, I pulled all the 22/24/26 and 1X/2X/3X out for donation, and left in the 18/20 and L/XL. Had to go out again this last weekend for a few more things as the 20s are now too baggy on me. I picked up a 16W pants to move into, but they already fit! Need to go out again for more 16s, and maybe some 14s and 12s. -
Update: The doc said everything was progressing just fine! The pain I am having is normal and should ease up over the next few weeks. Last night I used a heating pad on low and that seemed to help quite a bit. I weighed in 20 lbs down from my preop appt in mid Feb! I lost 4 lbs before my preop diet, 6lbs during the preop diet and 10 lbs since surgery 1 week ago. I also was approved to move on to soft foods. I'm thinking some refried beans thinned with a little salsa sounds good! Thanks to everyone for the advice and kind words, It is greatly appreciated!

Hiya Meg, The ice cube thing is a good idea... not sure if I could do it in class, but defo at home. Did you find that when the flushes were with you it effected your weight loss? I did well last week but got a bounce up this week =[ It is soooo frustrating when I know that I am not eating more than 1200 cals a day. I'm thinking of really dropping the carbs again for a week or two... but in the past, it hasn't really showed a significant weight loss for me.... I'm in a bit of a pickle as of what to do! I am also wondering if I should just take some time out and just maintain for a while, but then I really want to get to goal... Oh I don't know...lol!

Some of my friends have experienced good results with a product called Estroven--it's a soy-based supplement that contains phytoestrogens. Evidently it helps even out estrogen and that regulates the hot flashes. Other than that, cotton/linen clothing, avoiding caffeine, hot beverages/soup, no hot pepper, and waterproof makeup (so that it doesn't sweat off)--so sorry you're dealing with this!! It's extremely frustrating. My hot flashes went away after surgery, but in the last couple of weeks, they're back again--I awaken at 4 or 4:15 a.m. (not on purpose!) and then experience a hot flash. It goes away pretty quickly. Before being sleeved, I had them at any time, and you're right, having them at work as a teacher is really challenging in lots of respects. You might look into the supplements to see if you can find an herbal formula that helps. Hang in there!

Having us both go through it has really made it easier on both of us. When I was in nuitrion classes, there was another couple, there surgery was 2 weeks apart, that might be tough. My wife and I were 6 months apart.

Hi, does anyone know if it's common for bandsters to have elevated WBCs? I felt tired, so I had a CBC done because I thought I maybe anemic. The good news is that I'm not anemic, but my WBCs were elevated (15.8), which means I have some kind of infection. My family doctor and I could not figure out the source of this infection...I feel completely perfectly fine and nothing hurts. Just had a check up with my Bariatric doctor a couple of weeks ago to get a slight unfill and he said everything looked good. My family doctor was thinking maybe the "infection" and high WBCs are due to having a foreign body inside of me?? Has anyone experienced this??

Week 2 postop: having a hard mental food time
ShrinkingPeach replied to Nyelaah's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yep it happens! I stopped having those thoughts about 6 weeks out. As soon as you can get some variety in your food intake it really helps...hang in there!! -
Generally you can start using scar cream as soon as the site is superficially healed, so for the body about two weeks. I had good intentions to use scar cream, used it a few times and forgot about it. Most of my scars faded and then they were all cut off during plastics. After plastics I used Biocorneum.

Hi Neicy, I'll be thinking of you and saying prayers. I have been watching Ivan like crazy the last few days. In Oregon we are always expecting the big earthquake but otherwise our weather is kind of boring. I am always fascinated by the idea of going thru a tornado or hurricane. I'm kind of jealous of you! I know, my family calls me nuts too. LOL... I love weather and am a science student. I don't know if that expains it or not. Anyway best of luck to you. 300 trees on 3 acres is a LOT of trees! Best wishes, Teresa

Neicy, I'll be keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I can't imagine how very terrifying these things can be. The damage already done is just so devestating, it breaks my heart. Please, please stay safe and as far as I'm concerned - you have every right to eat nuts and oreos. You can worry about your weight next week when it's all over. Hugs to you. Please stay safe. Leatha

For most people weight loss isn't consistent on a daily or even weekly basis. Not just for the first few weeks, but throughout. That's why it is good to only weigh once a month or at your post-op doctor's visits, if the lack of consistency is going to stress you out. You can also use a site like Trend Weight to get the bigger picture. A lot of people imagine their weight loss plotted on a graph will look like a smooth, straight line headed down to the right. Instead, imagine the outline of a staircase plotted onto the graph. And the staircase was designed and built by people who were drunk and couldn't see very well. As far as expectations as to how much you will lose -- please, I beg you, put that idea aside. It seems like every day someone is on here, posting that they are freaked out because they aren't losing as much as they expected, and they always expect some insane amount of weight loss. Just get rid of the idea of expectations around weight loss and focus on your own expectations of how well you are going to comply with your post-op program. That's really the only thing you can control, and therefore the only thing that is worth feeling either good or bad about. Good luck!

I didn't lose consistently. I would go through weeks where I lost a good 2-3 pounds a week, and then I'd get stuck for 2-3 weeks. As I remember it, I had surgery in Sep 2013...that Christmas I ate some junk so I maintained at the amount I had lost for about a month, then I lost consistently until that June, where nothing I did could get me under 167. I ramped up my workouts, ate less food, and started to lose again until about August where I was then stuck at 157. After that I had 3 plastic surgeries between Sep-March, during which time I lost slowly. I stayed at 134- 5 pounds above my goal weight- from about December to April 1, after which point I have mostly been between 129-133, although last October I ate too much at Halloween and hit 137, which I quickly spent the next month working to lose that weight to get back to normal. As of today, I'm 129, and it's been 16-months ish at goal. Ultimately, you don't ever lose consistently, but for me, the only way I have continued to lose and maintain is by weighing every single day and constantly staying on top of it. As soon as you get complacent, you get stuck, you stay stuck, or you start to gain. The only way this sleeve has worked for me is understanding that everyday I need to be aware of the scale. There are days I eat junk food, it's good, and then the next morning I get right back on the scale. If it starts to move upward, immediately I make the changes I need to to make sure I drop again. The only way to lose and get to goal is to be vigilant and to keep working even when it feels like you are getting nowhere.

Post Op Medications?
Chimera replied to chelbroyer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Here is the general gist of what my Doc wants - mind you all Dr.s are different. Here are my doc's recommendations on supplements: Multivitamin mineral supplement - bariatric specific or 200% dose of standard multivitamin. Should be 100% of at least 2/3 nutrients. Should contain at least 400 IU of Vitamin D, 400 mcg folic acid, 1.2 mg thiamine B-1, 15 mg zinc, and 18-27 mg. Iron. It should also contain copper and selenium. If you take 200%, it should not exceed 10,000IU Vitamin A, or 1,000 mg (1500IU) of vitamin E. Elemental Iron - ASMBS guidelines call for a minimum of 36 mg per day. For menstruating women or those at risk of anemia total intake should be 50-100 mg per day. B-50 complex daily - the B50's I take are Bariatric Advantage in capsule form and have 50 mg each of thiamine, riboflavin, and niacin and 400 mcg of folate, 250 mcg of B12, 500 mcg Biotin, and 50 mg of pantotheric acid. also contains choline 25 mg, inositol 25 mg. B-12 - 500 micrograms per day or 1,000 microgram injection monthly calcium citrate - 1,500 to 2,000 mg calcium citrate Vitamin D: Dose dependent on labs - since we are in Seattle I am still taking 10,000 IU's a day in liquid form. I am getting ready for my 6 month labs soon - I have dropped the D down to 5k, and am taking Celebrate multi-vitamin capsules instead of chewables 9they can make me want to yak if i take them all at once, so i space them out) and the Citrical petites - which are not really all that petite lol. I still take Omeprazole (prilosec) daily, it will help to keep you from forming ulcers post surgery. -
I'm 21/2 weeks post op and I want to lose about 90lbs by my Birthday in January, so a little less than 6months. For those of you who have lost a lot and quickly how many calories a day did you consume, what was your secret for success? My nurse wants me to eat around 1,200 but it seems a little high and I don't think I can lose quick enough. I'm thinking that I need to keep it around 800-900 calories! One year ago today my LapBand slipped and had to be removed and I gained 100lbs in about 9months. Gaining all that weight back crushed my spirt and sent me into depression. Honestly, I'm desperate to get the weight off and restore my life. Too late to worry about stretched skin I already have it. I just want to reclaim my life!

Gallbladder issues??
Mickey527 replied to velvets143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine out 4 months after my band. Talk to your surgeon and ask for a HIDA scan rather than an ultrasound. My ultrasound said I had sludge in the gallbladder and the Dr said that wasn't enough of a reason to remove it. I had to have 3 episodes where I went to the ER in severe pain. I am cheap and won't pay $150 co-pay just for a shot of Demerol so I toughed it out at home. I finally had a HIDA scan where they inject something that goes right to the gallbladder while they are doing the scan. The HIDA scan showed that my gallbladder was not functioning correctly and it was removed a few days later. I also had severe pain, vomiting and nausea for about 2 weeks before they finally did the HIDA scan. One note: the stuff they inject is some kind of radioactive stuff and I was given a note that I had to carry for 4 days in case I had to go through any type of security. They told me it was the same stuff that terrorists use. -
I had my surgery Feb of 2013. At first all was going well, I never felt any restriction, I didn't have any complications. My progress went great at first, until I started back on solid foods. I didn't have problems adjusting to a solid food diet afterwards, and little by little I started eating a bit more, and a bit more. I guess I've pretty much just hit a wall as far as the surgery is concerned. I didn't follow through like I should have, so instead of the usual "surgery failed me" posts, this is my "I failed my surgery" plea for any assistance. I had surgery with Dr. Kim in Colleyville, and after recent contacts from his staff as well as their "awesome" support group leaders, it appears unless I have a revision surgery I'm on my own with getting back on track. I've put on about 30 pounds back, I started at over 400 and I'm sitting around 330 right now, so there was some success, I'd just like to get back on track and get to my overall goal weight of 260. Anyone been in this position before, and what did you do to start things back up? I'm working out, I hike about 10-15 miles a week, and I mountain bike 20-25 miles a week (just started back up). I carry a pretty good amount of muscle mass from my powerlifting days, but have recently retired from competitive lifting so I'm not lifting as heavy weights, or as often.

Will I eventually be able to eat more?
silverthreads replied to PaulBenn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I wouldn't be in a rush to eat the whole hot dog & bun until you've reached your goal -- but no reason you can't shoot for half of one... If you're satisfied, that's enough, right? Seriously, I'm just ahead of you -- about 5 weeks out. My personal experience was that at 2-3 weeks I could barely eat 1.5 oz. of food. Today I find I'm quite comfortable with 2.5 oz. of lean Protein -- maybe 3 oz. but that's pushing it. The amazing thing is that even with so little I'm perfectly satisfied. I used to still be hungry 5 minutes after finishing a big meal. Gotta love the difference. I used to love going to a great restaurant and having the Chef's tasting meal. Instead I'm just going to have to settle for being a normal size and enjoying an appetizer. I can definitely live with the trade-off. -
What Are Our Calorie Limits?
SusieB29 replied to SusieB29's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you all! My head agrees that I'm likely not eating enough. Its 3:15 and I've yet to eat, I'm not hungry. So ill try eating 3 meals hungry or not. My tomatoe thing is because I do love them and yes its a virtually free meal. I am still struggling with food fear. The little skinny Bitch in my head tells me if I eat, ill never stop being fat (lol). I focus on protein, no carnal yet for me. I still can't hit my grams a day. If I drink the protein shake I'm fearful of the amount of calories like 200 almost. I'm trying to get it through real food. Work in progress..... -
I just wanted to say thank you to all of you keeping this website going. I was suppose to have my surgery on 2/23/04 but now 3/2/04. I was just approved by my insurance on Thursday. YEAH!..I just find every support group at the hospital I am having the surgery is for Gastric Bypass. I can't seem to find one person having or had Lapband. Most of the material does not apply to me or at least I do not think it does. I am so glad I have this website to turn to so I know what to expect. Thanks, Christine:)
